Audio out "popping" sound

I have not found a reliable method for testing results but on ocassion, while running no applications that output any type of sound, I will hear a "pop" or "click" noise emitted from either my external speakers or through my earphones. I am almost absolutely certain that the speakers nor earphones are to blame as I have used them with my iPod without any issues.
I do not hear the noises from the internal speakers leading me to believe that the audio output jack is damaged. The MacBook was purchased last week. Recommendations?

It depends, are you running off battery when this happens? If so then morethan likely it is the audio hardware coming back online. In an effort to conserve power, what Mac OS X does is when you are on battery is that it turns off your audio hardware when it has not been used for a certian amount of time. This popping sound is typical of the audio hardware being powered up.

  • Audio Drop Out/Popping sound Problem

    Hi,
For the last few weeks (since i installed snow leopard i think), i have been getting a lot of audio drop outs, where all of a sudden the sound goes dead and i get a popping sound coming from my speakers.
I am using a pre sonus fire studio project audio interface, with its firmware updated to the latest (the latest update was a beta snow leopard update).
I am running logic pro 8 with snow leopard 10.6.2.
I think i have narrowed the problem down to my presonus fire studio because i totally disconnected it and used logics built in audio soundcard and i didn't get any audio drop out at all.
I was just wondering if anyone had any similar experiences or ideas and suggestions on what is best to do?
thanks in advance for any help.
    Tom

  • Headphone Audio Jack Popping Sound

    Hi Everyone,
I bought this used 17” 2.0 GHz iMac G5 just over a year ago. I usually have the iMac plugged into an amplified stereo system, which works great. But today for the first time I plugged in a set of headphones into the audio out jack and only got a constant popping sound with no computer sound what so ever. There was a significant lightning storm a week ago. I’ve never plugged in a headset before today so I don’t know when the problem started - it may have been there when I bought the machine. The internal speakers work fine as do the stereo speakers.
Has anyone else out there come across this problem? Was there any way to fix it? - Thanks!
    Christopher

Looks ok to me, but check this site as well.

  • What's the best solution for audio out of sound files from a MacBook Air to both an amplifier and to a subwoofer amplifier? I'm using the MBA to play sound files for worship services at our church.

I have a MacBook Air (13", 1.7GHz, 8GB RAM, 500GB SSD) that I'll be using to play sound files (primarily organ and piano) for worship services at my church. We'll be using a QSC RMX2450 650 Watts/Channel amplifier with Community CPL-27 speakers and also a JBL SUB 250P powered subwoofer with its own amplifier. What's the best option for getting sound out from the Mac to both of these amplifiers?

if you work with own recorded sounds you might wanna have a music program where you want to work with samples, steinberg has got very good ones (so they say)... but their really really ( ²) expensive(that's why almost no one haves them), magix haves good ones too bu their more for 'unprofessional' use, ableton haves really good ones too and they're not to difficult to use (if you know a bit of those programs you learn very quickly) and if you don't get them, there is a sort of manual built in it which explains and lets you do things to start (basics)
i hope this helped, btw stereo speakers are always better if you buy good ones (no pc speakers), but if you don't think you need them, don't buy them...
so again, i hope you have some ideas now

  • Random Audio spike/pop sound here and there

Hey guys, i get this spike type of audio pop from my MBP 17" output., i also hear it now with Leopard as well.
    Any ideas?, please advise----

Same problem here. It seems to start when the audio hardware gets switched on, lots of little annoying crackles.. it is especially obvious with my somewhat high-end studio monitors. Odd thing though, I didn't notice it until recently, after the latest round of Leopard updates (10.5.1). Could the culprit be in there? Hopefully Apple is on top of this. Well they better be, **** laptop is only 1 month old.

  • ATV2 Audio Out Question

First I apologize if this has been adressed elsewhere.
I am using an HP PC Monitor w/o speakers but with audio output to mini jack(headphones).
My ATV2 has HDMI out to DVI in on monitor, hence no sound transfer.  Computer has no optical audio in/out, so how do I send audio to computer to play through computer-based 5.1 speaker system, also with no optical audio in/output.
Re-cap:  AppleTV2 HDMI out to Monitor DVI in, lost sound. Cannot use optical audio out for sound, and although I believe original version of AppleTV had composite out, ATV2 only has HDMI, optical audio ports.
How do I send audio to computer, running Windows Media Center Edition, not using HDMI, since that is adapted for DVI which is only input available for my monitor.
I hope this makes sense to you all and I hope I have included all pertinent information. I await, patiently, any and all help provided, with great thanks for taking time to read this request.

You're stuck really - as you say AppleTV2 does not have analogue audio out, DVI does not support audio, and AppleTV is not officially compatible with DVI though may work.
You either need some intervening HDMI device that can output video to HDMI and audio separately via analogue  or a D to A converter to convert the optical out -- neither likely to be that practical or cheap.  I think monoprice may have some cheap D to A converters if you have them in your countrey (I don't).
Why does the monitor have audio output socket if it can't handle audio input, or does it have a separate audio in socket?

  • Pop Noise from Audio Out While Using iTunes 9.0.1

I have a black MacBook with Leopard 10.5.8 and iTunes 9.0.1. I have a a pair of computer speakers plugged to the MacBook's audio out minijack. Every time I run iTunes to play my music everything goes fine until I stop the music (you know with the space bar or the stop button). 30 seconds after I stop the music a loud pop noise comes up and stops, as if some electrical device was receiving a charge of electricity. When I play music back again on iTunes, the same noise comes up again with the music and goes away immediately while the music continues all right.
This is what I have done so far:
Change my energy saving parameter to several different configurations (perhaps the hard drive stopping when unused was the cause) but none fix it.
Turned off Airport...did not fix it
I timed the pop noise and it happens exactly 30 seconds after I stop my music on iTunes and then again 30 seconds after music has been stopped unless I start playing the music back again and the pop noise sounds again.
Any help would be appreciated as I use my MacBook to play music sequences for my band (I am the drummer) so the darn noises come through our PA system (and I also tried my small computer speakers and it does the same thing).
    Thanks,

I spent a good amount of time reading several discussions. Apple is aware of this issue but no solution as of yet. The popping noise is "normal" behavior and happens because of how the sound system is programmed in the computer.
The solution (sorry for the bad news) is to not use the audio out minijack at all. Instead, get an audio interface that connects to your USB port and then route the output signal from your audio interface to your speakers, headphones or PA system. The popping noise will not sound. I tested it several times.
If the only cable you have is a minijack male type then go to Radio Shack and get adapters. I had to get me an adapter that takes two RCA males and converts them to a female minijack type.
    Good luck.

  • Why doesn't the Belkin Thunderbolt Express Dock relay sound from it's audio out port?

Posted to Belkin Support community to no avail

Why can't my Belkin Thunderbolt Express Dock operate my desktop speakers?
    Options
    07-14-2014 01:48 PM
Bought a Belkin Thunderbolt Express Dock at the Apple Store to use with my new MacBook Pro.
When I connected it to my
    -20" Mac Cinema display,
-Various USB connected hubs and devices,
    -Various Firewire hubs and devices
-My ethernet network from my Cable Modem
Then made the last connection from the Dock to the Thunderbolt port on the MacBook Pro...
    All was fine.
But when I made that one last connection - to my desktop speakers via the audio-out port on the dock (earphones icon) nothing happened.  The dock did not pick up the audio from the laptop playng an iTunes song or send it to the desktop speakers.  When I unplugged the audio cable from the Dock and plugged it in to the MacBook Pro directly, the desktop speakers kicked right in again.
Does Thunderbolt pick up audio-out from a MacBook Pro and carry it to the Dock for connection to my desktop speakers?
Of for some reason, can that signal not be carried by Thunderbolt?
Will I have to get used to the onerous task of unplugging 2 cables from my MacBook Pro when I want to more it to another location in stead of just 1 cable?
But stay with me.  Here's the thing.
When this happened I called Belkin Customer Support to ask if they could help me.  After taking me through their steps, they agreed that the unit must be defective and agreed to ship me a replacement Thunderbolt Express Dock.
The replacement arrived over the weekend and when I shut down my system and then plugged everything from Dock I purchased into the replacement Thunderbird Express Dock - - - - - the same thing happened!
No signal to the speakers from the dock.  Perfect signal when the plug moved from the Dock to the computer itself.
    Hence my question:
Does Thunderbolt pick up audio-out from a MacBook Pro and carry it to the Dock for connection to my desktop speakers?
    Can it accomplish that function?
Am I really that unlucky to have received 2 defective new Belkin Thunderbolt Express Docks in a row?
Or is it simply a matter of the Dock not handling audio throughput in the manner I am expecting.
Then again, if this is the case, why did the Belkin techies not know this when I called them in the first place.
Yes, I'm going on and on here.  But I really don't have time for this.
    What's going on here?

OK.  No reason to be playing games here.  Just surprised that this issue hasn't been brought up here on the community boards as well.  Here's the simple solution

After reaching a Level III technician in Belkin customer support today and having spent approximately 4-5 person hours on this issue, we figured out that the Sound/Output preferences in the Apple System Preferences should not be set to "Internal Speakers"  but rather set to "USB PnP Sound Device".
Worked like a charm.  Simple, elegant solution to a real problem, one likely to be encountered by 90% of the people who buy a Belkin Thunderbid Express Dock off the shelves of any Apple Store to use with a current generation Apple laptop or desktop computer.
But the Level III Belkin technician admmtted that this critical little piece of simple, straightforward information should have been readily available to their Level 1 techies who began helping me 5 person hours ago.  Would even have saved Balkin loads of customer service support time.
    And so the saga ends
Belkin owes me for helping them learn this precious lesson.

  • My Ipad 2 external speakers does not work and headphones has popping sound. This all occured at the same time as my Iphone and Ipod headphones only played mono (no, the "mono" option is not on). How can there be audio issue for all these devices?

My IPad 2 external speaker does not work and the original headphones have popping sound when used. This all occurred at the same time as my IPhone and IPod headphones only plays mono (and no, the "mono" option is not on) with the original headphones, as well as, other headphones tested.  How can there be audio issue for all these devices at the same time?
As you may have noted from the list of Apple devices I own, I believed in the Apple and the products it was producing; but it is hard to believe from my experience and the other voices within the Apple Community that we are all experiencing the same hardware issues. Especially since I recently, I upgraded to an IPhone 4g (no, my faith in IPhone 5 series is very little) and is experiencing the same audio problem as described above. So now, I am off to the Apple store again to be told that it’s a hardware problem on new IPhone. Really? Apple, what happen to the pride in the product you were producing?

Everyone does things a little differently. I love to "jam " along with iTunes ( or old Lp's) . Always have. That's where/how I've learned to play .
I'm sure leonieDF is giving a proper way to jam along on a keyboard with an iTune. He blows my mind all the time with what he knows. Nuff respects to him !
What I do is make a GB project I call "Jam With". I'll make several new tracks that are blank. Just has a few instruments named in the blank tracks. You can change those per song ...
Because I'm not concerned about changing the pitch / key.... of the iTune or the tempo ... I can simply play along with it.
    Peace,

My daughter has had her Razr for about 9 months now.  About two weeks ago she picked up her phone in the morning on her way to school when she noticed two cracks, both starting at the camera lens. One goes completely to the bottom and the other goes sharply to the side. She has never dropped it and me and my husband went over it with a fine tooth comb. We looked under a magnifying glass and could no find any reason for the glass to crack. Not one ding, scratch or bang. Our daughter really takes good care of her stuff, but we still wanted to make sure before we sent it in for repairs. Well we did and we got a reply from Motorola with a picture of the cracks saying this was customer abuse and that it is not covered under warranty. Even though they did not find any physical damage to back it up. Well I e-mailed them back and told them I did a little research and found pages of people having the same problems. Well I did not hear from them until I received a notice from Fed Ex that they were sending the phone back. NOT FIXED!!! I went to look up why and guess what there is no case open any more for the phone. It has been wiped clean. I put in the RMA # it comes back not found, I put in the ID #, the SN# and all comes back not found. Yet a day earlier all the info was there. I know there is a lot more people like me and all of you, but they just don't want to be bothered so they pay to have it fix, just to have it do it again. Unless they have found the problem and only fixing it on a customer pay only set up. I am furious and will not be recommending this phone to anyone. And to think I was considering this phone for my next up grade! NOT!!!!

I am using iMac OS 10.7.2 with Garageband'11 6.0.4. I can't record sound from  mixer Behringer X1622USB using USB out. when I connect the mixer to iMac via USB  appears USB Audio CODEC on Sound and Preferences but I can't get no sound from mixer to iMac only sound from iMac to mixer. I only can record sound using microphone line in. Please help.

    Eric,
Thanks for your reply. Realtek audio works only in playback. There is a stereo mix in the mixer but the recording controls are not operable with no sliders in the mixer for any recording option. Slider controls appear to be grayed out. Can't figure out how to enable them. Downloaded newest drivers to no avail.
The M Audio control panel has no apparent option for recording stereo mix. Adobe ignores the sound from the DVD or CD and shows flatline.
I'm trying to record the sound from the DVD not rip the track.
When I go to Audio Driver Setup and select Audition 3.0 windows sound, there is no input device installed.
I'm thinking of going back to a decent internal Soundblaster card like I have on my 8 year old machine I am replacing.

  • Some of the audio out of my mac sounds as if there's a reverb effect on top

Mostly on videos, using VLC and quicktime it sounds as though there's a reverb/delay effect on top of the audio.. it's really annoying... haven't noticed it in any DAW's such as Ableton Live/Reason or Logic just in things like itunes,safari,vlc,quicktime.. it's quite strange

the problem persists no matter what i'm using. I've used my monitor pair(m-audio bx5a's), the inbuilt speakers and a pair of headphones...
I believe it has something to do with the inbuilt soundcard as when i attach an external soundcard to the bx5a's there is no reverb..
I just did a test two seconds ago.
Basically, i opened up ableton live (standard DAW) and put a kick drum beat on loop.
The output config was simply 'built in output'.
I first listened back on the monitors via the headphone out... bass drum has reverb on it.. out of nowhere?!
repeated the process with my headphones via the headphone-out .. same tail of reverb.. again out of nowhere.
I then repeated the process with just the inbuilt speakers.. again lots of tail..
Having done all this i attached my numark omni control midi controller which has an inbuilt sound card plugged the monitors into the output of the controller.. bass drum comes out clean as a whistle...
ugh.. hope there isn't some sort of sound card related dilemma..
being a music technology student facing this problem is both embarrassing and frustrating!!! not many people would notice it in the first place!!!
So far i've considered two possible reasons for my dilemma-
    1. There's something wrong with my internal sound card
    2. I've installed some piece of software or changed some setting within some random piece of software that's effected all of the audio out of the inbuilt card...
man alive, it's annoying whatever it is.

  • I Have a soft popping sound coming out of my 2009 mini....

I am using the some BA MM 220 external speakers on this early 2009 mini...and about every 45-90 seconds i hear a soft popping sound. It does not matter what levels the mini is set too, or what levels the speakers are set too...i get this single soft pop every minute or so....

Mine is not a mini problem...it happens without it being even attached to the computer. So its either a speaker problem, like maybe the power supply/amplifier has issues, or its a problem with my power lines.
I just picked up a couple of those x10 pro plug adapters that might solve the problem, They are designed to filter out power line noise...i'll let you know if they work.

  • POP sound come out from air vent

Hi every mac user out there,
My MacBook pro 15 inch recently don't know why, start to have a pop sound out from the back of my MacBook pro's air vent, this started after I open the below case just for checking(because last time I saw a little tiny bug going inside!), after that I heard the pop sound, in early state, sound I quite loud so I think maybe is my hand or some other thing make it, then a few day ago, there still has a pop sound but just a small sound from the vent, after about 5min of usage it will show up, any idea?
Note:my mac does not has any dust inside the fans or the vent, I haven't do any battery calibration or any rmc or NVRAM reset recently, I not over use my mac only does when editing some movie and play game ,does this affect them?

I also have this problem with my Extreme Gamer Fatilty X-Fi. In 6 channel direct mode 5. works perfectly but if I switch to the SPDIF mode connected to that Creative Digital I/O addon thing the rear left and rear right sound comes out of the front right and front left. This is with the latest drivers. I tried a clean re-install of the drivers and apps using driver cleaner but the sound is still messed up.
I guess thats an improvement in for me. With Vista 64, SPDIF didn't even work at all till the more recent drivers, so I guess you could call it progress, creative style.
I am lucky I have little need for SPDIF with this card as its not a main source of movies/TV for me. This system is mostly used for gaming, and at least that works good. Had I needed this for a HTPC or something I would be very very pissed off. If I had paid for that DDL thing I would be livid having already paid for their $4 Digital adapter addon which is rendered worthless.

    Hey,
I have the audigy 2 platinum card. Today I connected the audio out from the tv to the sound card. What I got was some background noice and a delay. What ever was being said through the tv's speakers would come out through the computer's speaker with a second or two of delay. Basically I connected the cables to the tv's out and to the aux 2 in. Am I doing something wrong? Is there another way to connect the sound to come out through the computer's speaker without the delay? Thanks in advance for the help.
