Audio out port doesn't work well

Hi, I have a Macbook Pro 13-inch, Early 2011. Since I bought it I always use my Mac whit headphones, but since a month it only works well the left headphone. I think that the problem it was my headphones but no, because I used it on my phone and workes well. So i come to the conclusion that the audio out port doesn't work well. What you think? And what you recommend to me to fix this problem?

Probably still under warranty, but not for long. Take it to the Apple Store or AASP to have it checked ASAP.

Why can't my Belkin Thunderbolt Express Dock operate my desktop speakers?
    Options
    07-14-2014 01:48 PM
Bought a Belkin Thunderbolt Express Dock at the Apple Store to use with my new MacBook Pro.
When I connected it to my
    -20" Mac Cinema display,
-Various USB connected hubs and devices,
    -Various Firewire hubs and devices
-My ethernet network from my Cable Modem
Then made the last connection from the Dock to the Thunderbolt port on the MacBook Pro...
    All was fine.
But when I made that one last connection - to my desktop speakers via the audio-out port on the dock (earphones icon) nothing happened.  The dock did not pick up the audio from the laptop playng an iTunes song or send it to the desktop speakers.  When I unplugged the audio cable from the Dock and plugged it in to the MacBook Pro directly, the desktop speakers kicked right in again.
Does Thunderbolt pick up audio-out from a MacBook Pro and carry it to the Dock for connection to my desktop speakers?
Of for some reason, can that signal not be carried by Thunderbolt?
Will I have to get used to the onerous task of unplugging 2 cables from my MacBook Pro when I want to more it to another location in stead of just 1 cable?
But stay with me.  Here's the thing.
When this happened I called Belkin Customer Support to ask if they could help me.  After taking me through their steps, they agreed that the unit must be defective and agreed to ship me a replacement Thunderbolt Express Dock.
The replacement arrived over the weekend and when I shut down my system and then plugged everything from Dock I purchased into the replacement Thunderbird Express Dock - - - - - the same thing happened!
No signal to the speakers from the dock.  Perfect signal when the plug moved from the Dock to the computer itself.
    Hence my question:
Does Thunderbolt pick up audio-out from a MacBook Pro and carry it to the Dock for connection to my desktop speakers?
    Can it accomplish that function?
Am I really that unlucky to have received 2 defective new Belkin Thunderbolt Express Docks in a row?
Or is it simply a matter of the Dock not handling audio throughput in the manner I am expecting.
Then again, if this is the case, why did the Belkin techies not know this when I called them in the first place.
Yes, I'm going on and on here.  But I really don't have time for this.
    What's going on here?

OK.  No reason to be playing games here.  Just surprised that this issue hasn't been brought up here on the community boards as well.  Here's the simple solution

After reaching a Level III technician in Belkin customer support today and having spent approximately 4-5 person hours on this issue, we figured out that the Sound/Output preferences in the Apple System Preferences should not be set to "Internal Speakers"  but rather set to "USB PnP Sound Device".
Worked like a charm.  Simple, elegant solution to a real problem, one likely to be encountered by 90% of the people who buy a Belkin Thunderbid Express Dock off the shelves of any Apple Store to use with a current generation Apple laptop or desktop computer.
But the Level III Belkin technician admmtted that this critical little piece of simple, straightforward information should have been readily available to their Level 1 techies who began helping me 5 person hours ago.  Would even have saved Balkin loads of customer service support time.
    And so the saga ends
Belkin owes me for helping them learn this precious lesson.

  • HT2844 iMac 27"(late 2009), Audio in/Optical digital audio out port, stopped recognizing my new Bose speaker system, previously working...

    Hello,
My iMac 27"(late 2009), Audio in/Optical digital audio out port, stopped recognizing my new Bose speaker system, previously working through that port. I tested the speaker system through my iPhone, and it works fine. I hooked it up to the Headphone out/Optical digital audio in port, and it works through that port also. I did a computer restart, I also checked all wiring and did a system repair on the computer. I also restarted the computer in mode where I could use the system utility, and the computer still did not correct the matter, and it reported everything as being "ok". I wented into "sound", through system preferences, and the computer does not recognize anything I plug into the Audio in/Optical digital audio out port. When I plug the speaker sysytem into the headphone out/optical digital audio out port, it does recognize the Bose speaker system as being "headphones".
Reading through a lot of forums, I hear everything from compatibility, to the port being stuck, and on and on. Since the port was working before, and just quit working one day, I wonder if there is a capacitor or fuse or some type of similar thing is blown, and causing the port to be unfunctionable. Maybe the port went bad, but before this time, I had never used it, and the computer does not move around, and I never plug in and pull wiring out unless needing to, and that being rare.
Here is a link to Costco, where I bought the system, and the exact system I have, if this is any help:  http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=bsd&cs=04&sku= A4092931&ST=pla&dgc=ST&cid=262075&lid=4742361&acd=1230980794501410
By the way, I am running OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5). I upgraded to Mavericks about a month ago, and expeirienced a number of issues, and had to take my iMac into Apple. Talking with the tech, I decided to wait for a while more before I upgraded to Mavericks. I try and keep the computer maintained.
If any of you have any ideas regadrding wear and tear, and fix I can do, etc., besides having to take my computer into Apple? Thank you, and potentially all of you, for your time and effort in helping me with this issue. Thank you kindly.

Okay, davE, first, you have posted in the "Mac Pro" forum (not Macbook Pro), so we can't be super helpful
but we help you. First, hold down the Option key while clicking on the speaker icon at the top of your screen. This should show you all the inputs and outputs you have. you could check in "About this Mac" then "More info" to see whatever's recognized. Then, maybe, fire up Audio MIDI. your speaker system should show up there. something might have gotten set incorrectly. You can test it there.  I guess you are using the good ol' analog cable for connection, and it works on your iPhone, so the cable isn't bad.  You could try this. it 's an adapter which might solve your problem

depending on which model of Bose speaker you have, you might try doing a product reset
turn off speakers...unplug power cord from outlet...wait 1 minute..plug cord into outlet..turn on speakers..
    \\turning off automatic standby||
press and hold top of control pod for 6 seconds until you hear 2 tones that go from high to low
other than that ,I  don't know

  • Audio out port is intermittent

I couldn't decide what category to choose, because my MacBook isn't "black and white". It is just white.
The audio out port (marked with headphone symbol) is intermittent with headphones or speakers. I can't say what causes it. Unplugging / plugging in again sometimes restores the sound, but more often it doesn't help. If the sound is anywhere but at the lowest level, I hear the typical momentary bzzzz sound when the plug is inserted, but no sound from the QuickTime file itself. If I unplug the speakers / headphones, the sound always works through the built-in speaker. The only login item is iTunesHelper. The only application open is QuickTime Player. Software Update shows "Your software is up to date". Disk Utility shows drive appears to be OK.
Is there a firmware update or audio port fix that doesn't appear in Software Update?

I have since found that this is a rather well-documented issue with MacBooks. Various solutions include sticking a toothpick in the jack and deleting prefs. None of this works with mine, as it didn't for many others, so maybe we have to wait for some firmware update that can fix the combo-digital-analog jack thing.

  • No sound from rear audio out port?

    Hey guys.
I am trying to troubleshoot a sound issue with a Vista Home Basic machine.
I can't really give you all the MOBO specs etc because I am not currently in front of the machine. I can however confirm that it is using a Realtek chipset and is configured using the Realtek Sound Manager software.
I am really just wanting to use basic sound (i.e. just speaker, not 5., 7. etc).
I am trying to make use of an old stereo system by using a 3.5mm aux jack to dual RCA (white and red) plugs.
I can get sound when I plug the aux jack into the front earphones port but I cannot get sound when I try and use the analogue audio out (lime green) port at the rear of the machine. Vista states that it is working correctly and has a tick next to the speakers but no sound is produced by the speakers.
The MOBO has the following available audio connectors:
Analogue = Mic in (Pink) Audio in (light blue) Audio out (lime green)
Centre Speaker (Orange) Rear Surround (Black) Mid Surround (Grey)
    Digital = x SPDIF
You may ask at this point, why not just use the front headphones jack? Well, the problem is that it seems to be very sensiti've in that Vista keeps reporting that the jack is cycling between a connected and disconnected state.
I also cannot use the SPDIF, as the old stereo only supports aux left and right RCA.
Also, when I try and get one of the rear ports to work, I have made sure that nothing is connected to the sound ports at the front as I know that this can cause problems.
When I plug in the 3.5mm jack into the green port, the Realtek sound manager kicks in and says that "a jack as been connected". I then confirm that I have infact connected the jack to the rear audio out port. I then follow the steps in the wizard but am not able to get sound.
I made sure that I used the most basic settings (i.e. speakers and not 5. etc).
I even tried the grey, black and orange ports (even though I know they are used for surround sound setups) and still no luck.
One interesting setting I did notice was that in Winamp, I had to select the "allow mono speaker" setting to have it play sound through the front headphones port.
However, when I was configuring the rear green port in the Realtex Sound Manager software, there was no mono option. There was only stereo, 5., 7. and some quad....... thing.
Any ideas guys on how to get the rear green port working?
I am wondering if it has something to with a connector on the MOBO. But as I said, Vista and Realtek manager seem to report that all is well.
    My thanks in advance.

  • Digital audio out port

I am having a problem, quite opposite to what most of what I've read about Mac audio port issues online, concerning my audio-out port. I'm running an Intel Imac, 7,1, running OS 10.5.8. The specs do specify the audio port on this mac is dual; analog and digital output. Everything I've read to date relates to the red optical light being stuck on coming out of the audio port. My issue is that I CANNOT, and I emphasize that, get the red light to come on and thus use my optical cable (it's working on other equipment) and connect it to my AV receiver. I have never in the past even thought about using an optical cable so it never was an issue. In fact I never knew the port was dual. The external speaker and headphones work fine and the audio panel in the preference pane reflects that; either says 'internal speakers' or 'headphones' automatically when engaging/disengaging audio phone jack. When I put in my toslink (optical) cable, the panel goes to 'headphones' instead of 'optical out' or 'digital out'. There is never a provision to click on digital out on either the sound panel or the midi setup panel. I've tried everything I can click on at both panels. Audio Output in midi setup says 'master stream' (always greyed out) and Source- either 'headphones' or 'internal speakers'. The default and system output drop downs never give me a 'digital' or 'optical' option. Everything works fine except that I cannot get the red light to shine and cannot get digital out at all. Any ideas? Maybe something in terminal or in openfirmware screen? Thanks.

have you tried other speakers or headphones and what version bootcamp drivers are you using?

  • 1/8th inch Audio out port

I have a digital audio coax input on my stero reciever. When I connect my macbook 1/8th inch audio out port to the coax input on my reciever, my stereo says that it cannot detect any digital signal. Is that because my macbook output is sending an analog and not a digital signal? Or what other reason would there be no signal? My macbook port works fine with headphones.

Yes, there are "mini-Toslink" to Toslink adapters and cables that have a mini plug at one end and a standard size plug at the other end. Apple has one cable that comes with a mini adapter:
    http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore?productLearnMore=TL9 55LL/A
The mini adapters used to be available as separate items (in case you already had a cable) from Amazon.com and Radio Shack, but I've been unable to find them recently.

EDIT: An adapter has re-appeared at Amazon.com here.

  • Sun one server 6.0 doesn't work well with explorer

We've sun one server 6.0 sp4 running in a sparc server as SSL server and too as common server on port 80. The most our clients , 95%, are explorer browser users.
The server has known bugs with SSL3 , interoperatibility with MSIE problem 532427. The solutions suggested in the server documentation don't work. We tryed the solutions suggested many times and in few time we got complaints from clients, people get "this page can't be displayed". I had to set the server to work with SSL2 only , althought security's reports tell that this protocol is not safe.
The second bug is concern the latencies loading pages with explorer. I apply the solution suggested, KeepAliveQueryMeanTime 1, it doesn't work well too. We don't feel the latencies on new machines or light browsers as avant , but we still feel these latencies with old machines or if the users uses modem. A lot of people still see very strong latencies.
I feel the server wasn't tested enough with explorer browser , it has so many compatibility problems with this browser.I think for the most webmasters the perfect compatibility with explorer is very important.
We payed for this server and it is worst than apache ,apache group fixed the SSL problem long time ago. Only one thing we need doesn't work well in apache then we contenue to use sun one server. But this diference is not enough to justify the use of this server if sun don't fix these problems. I'm talking about problems they exist more than 1 year, they were when i installed the server then i contenue to work with iplanet 4.1 and SSL2. I read the new version server characteristics, version 6.1 , i didn't find anything telling that these problems were fixed.

  • Expand mini to two audio out ports?

I am thinking about purchasing a Mac mini, but I noticed it only has one audio out port. I am using both audio outs on my Dual 1GB now - the audio out on the back panel and the headphone port on the mirror front. I use one for speakers and one to my stereo.
Is there a way to have two audio outs on a mini? I am not sure a Y-connector will work (impedance issues?), and an A/B switch will only give me output on one line at a time.
Any ideas? Some kind of 3rd-party device?

One option would be to use a Bluetooth headset, a second option would be to get a USB audio interface or USB speakers, and a third option would be to run speakers from your stereo system (many modern AV receivers support more than one set of speakers).
What are you trying to output? It sounds like two different thins at the same time?

  • Optical digital audio out port

    Here is the situation:
The only problem I have with my Mac Pro is that the Audio line-out port does not work reliably in Boot Camp. The audio output cuts out easily and then I have to "jiggle" the speaker cable to get the sound back. And I have determined that it is the audio line-out port that is at fault, not the speakers, nor the cable.
So I want to try to work around this by utilizing the optical digital audio out port.
But I don't understand how it works.
Does this port connect directly to appropriate digital speakers?
If so can someone recommend a decent set of digital speakers that will connect directly.
Or does the optical digital audio port connect to an amplifier or receiver and them to speakers?

    Hi!
I restarted the computer, but the same issue happens again. When I move my mouse over some object or tool, it doesn’t come active at all (only some of the tools works) When I try to change “site properties”, I can’t choose tablet or phone mode or even I can’t select the checkboxes, only thing what I can do is change the numbers (high and width) . After all the main problem is that I can’t select some of the items or functions by mouse, but only by the keyboard.

  • I updated to 10.4.7 and now my left USB port doesn't work

    Hi all,
I ran Software Update just a second ago, installing an update to MacOS (PowerPC), ITunes, and QuickTime. After the install and the restart, my left USB port is no longer working. It was working immediately before the install.
I have verified that the peripheral that was not working in the left port works just fine in the right one. I have also confirmed that a peripheral that was working previously in the right USB port doesn't work when attached to the left one.
Therefor, I am led to believe that the problem lies in the left USB port. The only thing that has changed is the updater which ran moments ago, and again, the left USB port was working just fine prior to the install.
Has anybody else experienced this problem and knows of a fix/patch/anything I can do?

I have another query though. Is it possible to always logged into my Gtalk from iPhone? I am using an app called Gtalk Lite. But every time I double press the home button and swipe up the apps to close them from running in the background Gtalk lite logs me off. I have to log in to Gtalk lite again. I was looking for something like that happens on Android phones. You are always logged in even after you close them from running in the background. And also is it possible to log in to more than one gmail account on Gtalk in iPhone?

  • Urgent - Upgraded Form doesn't works well with values saved by previous ver

    Hi all,
Form i m working on has changed many times due to change in requirments.
Everytime i do addition in old form, it doesn't works well be data saved by older versions.
    e.g.
Current Version that i have upgraded fetchs the data well from database on query. But when i save it, clear or exit the form and then re-query that data, it doesn't show up instead meassage comes that query caused no records to be fetched.
i checked at database level, data is there.
and when i tried to call data from old form, it also refused to show it (data that was previously entered by itself but then saved by new form).
what could be the problem and i can i resolve it.
plz note that in all of this process, there are no database level changes, only form level changes.
    regards,
    yasir

sounds like spaces are being padded at the end of the data
check the length of the values you've changed in sqlplus and see if they are indeed right padded
