Audio Out To A Mixing Board

Is there some way to hook up an external mixing board to a Mac and use that for audio mixing instead of using the faders in FCP? My wife can do this at work with an AVID but I'm trying to figure this out with FCP so I can automate a mix.
Maybe I'm asking for too much?
Thanks in advance.

I have a Tascam FW1082 and I can use it to adjust the audio levels in FCP...using the mackie control interface.

Go to the link below.Enter your Product Number as listed on Service Tag attached to bottom of notebook (may be under battery). You can also get the Product Number by pressing Fn + Esc key. After entering PN, click Next ,then choose Software & Drivers. On the next page use the dropdown to select your OS (probably Windows 7 64bit). A list will populate with drivers. Download & Save the latest Audio driver.

  • Audio Mixing Board for PPCS4

Does anyone know of or use an audio mixing board that would control the audio mixer in PPCS4?  One that moves the slider in PP when the physical sliders on the board are moved.  Thanks

It is an area that would get a lot of flexing and pressure. I bet someone that knows how to solder can fix those up just fine.

  • Best recommended mixing board with usb or lightning output to iMac or iPad for GarageBand?

    hi,
set-up - 2010 iMac w/ intel core i7 processor @ 2.8 GHz, 16 GB RAM, latest mac os x 10.9 "maverick" update and the latest version updated of garage band; also, iPad third generation 64 GB wi-fi only with the latest version of iOS 7.0.3 and iOS GarageBand app v. 2.0 (3090.25). i also have the adapter apple sold for the iPad that gives it a usb interface - this was for usb sticks that had photos, but i'm hoping it'll work well with GarageBand also.
i'm wanting to do some podcast audio recording with multiple inputs (audio round table discussion setting), as well as some home studio recording (mostly acoustic guitar work). i already have several good mics.
i am looking for a mix board that will interface well with digital output to the GarageBand on the iMac, preferably to both the iMac and the GarageBand app on the iPad also. i want the mix board to have some form of _modern_ digital out, preferably usb (but could work, maybe, with lightning/thunder). the iPad is for when i want to record something on the road for a podcast, the iMac stays in my home office/studio. i'm looking for a mix board fitting these specs that i could pick up fairly reasonably on ebay or the like.
i've looked a bit at tascam and alesis. i was wondering what folks here might recommend and what their experience is? also, if not a mix board, then what would you recommend for a multiple digital interface input of the mics, say four or five at a time, going into the iMac or iPad for live recording?
i look forward to your advisement, stories and tips on this. thank you.
    best,

It looks like these boards are "class compliant" USB, meaning there are no drivers to install, it's basic plug-and-play.
To use it in Garageband you would have to go to (Garageband) preferences and set it up as the recording/playback device.  The Mac's system preferences have nothing to do with a (decent) audio program's audio device selection.
    Garageband probably defaults to built-in-audio.
The problem you will have is that the USB output is probably stereo only. You can record multiple inputs, but only as a stereo Mix. (or two mono tracks). I say probably because I don't really know. It doesn't prevent you from laying down tracks one (stereo) or two (mono) at a time.

  • Digital Mixing board recommendations?

I've had Logic Express 7 for about a year. I've been using my 4-track as a mixing board up till this point. My 4-track just got stolen so I want to replace it with a digital board that I can use to record multiple tracks independently and then mix them after I have recorded them. I don't need a lot of tracks, just some options. I want to make sure that the board I get is compatible with the computer and logic express and that I can plug it in and go, or, do I need other stuff too? I don't really want to spend a ton either.... and suggestions?

    Hi,
Well...for a good quality mixing board that is digital, you're looking to spend a few grand. There are some options which I have used before with sucess, like the Tascam DM-24,now not in production, which can run you about 1,500 USD for a used one. Also you can check out products by Yamaha as well, they are good too.
It seems though, that if you are only planning to do 4-8 channels of simultaneous recording (recoring-at-one-time) you can get away with using a multichannel audio interface, and mixing all "inside-the-box" i.e. in the computer itself.Logic is quite good at that.
Here's a rough demo of mine done completely in Logic Pro,and even exported using Logic's mp3 encoder:

  • Using a mixing board as a pre amp?

    Hey all,
I have a decent little M-Audio audio interface but I'd like to record more than 2 real instrument tracks simultaneously for a recording session. I believe I can record up to 8 real instrument tracks at any given time with GB3 and was wondering if I am able to use a mixing board as a pre amp much like my audio interface? If so, how do I connect it up?
Here's the link to our board:

    Thanks!
    Jay.

For 8 channels you'd need a FireWire interface or mixing console that offers at least 8 channels out.
An example, the interface I use, the Presonus FirePod FireWire Audio Interface
8 Mic PREs and 10 channels out (GB can use 8 of those)

  • Why doesn't the Belkin Thunderbolt Express Dock relay sound from it's audio out port?

Posted to Belkin Support community to no avail
    =====================
Why can't my Belkin Thunderbolt Express Dock operate my desktop speakers?
    Options
    07-14-2014 01:48 PM
Bought a Belkin Thunderbolt Express Dock at the Apple Store to use with my new MacBook Pro.
When I connected it to my
    -20" Mac Cinema display,
-Various USB connected hubs and devices,
    -Various Firewire hubs and devices
-My ethernet network from my Cable Modem
Then made the last connection from the Dock to the Thunderbolt port on the MacBook Pro...
    All was fine.
But when I made that one last connection - to my desktop speakers via the audio-out port on the dock (earphones icon) nothing happened.  The dock did not pick up the audio from the laptop playng an iTunes song or send it to the desktop speakers.  When I unplugged the audio cable from the Dock and plugged it in to the MacBook Pro directly, the desktop speakers kicked right in again.
Does Thunderbolt pick up audio-out from a MacBook Pro and carry it to the Dock for connection to my desktop speakers?
Of for some reason, can that signal not be carried by Thunderbolt?
Will I have to get used to the onerous task of unplugging 2 cables from my MacBook Pro when I want to more it to another location in stead of just 1 cable?
But stay with me.  Here's the thing.
When this happened I called Belkin Customer Support to ask if they could help me.  After taking me through their steps, they agreed that the unit must be defective and agreed to ship me a replacement Thunderbolt Express Dock.
The replacement arrived over the weekend and when I shut down my system and then plugged everything from Dock I purchased into the replacement Thunderbird Express Dock - - - - - the same thing happened!
No signal to the speakers from the dock.  Perfect signal when the plug moved from the Dock to the computer itself.
    Hence my question:
Does Thunderbolt pick up audio-out from a MacBook Pro and carry it to the Dock for connection to my desktop speakers?
    Can it accomplish that function?
Am I really that unlucky to have received 2 defective new Belkin Thunderbolt Express Docks in a row?
Or is it simply a matter of the Dock not handling audio throughput in the manner I am expecting.
Then again, if this is the case, why did the Belkin techies not know this when I called them in the first place.
Yes, I'm going on and on here.  But I really don't have time for this.
    What's going on here?

OK.  No reason to be playing games here.  Just surprised that this issue hasn't been brought up here on the community boards as well.  Here's the simple solution

After reaching a Level III technician in Belkin customer support today and having spent approximately 4-5 person hours on this issue, we figured out that the Sound/Output preferences in the Apple System Preferences should not be set to "Internal Speakers"  but rather set to "USB PnP Sound Device".
Worked like a charm.  Simple, elegant solution to a real problem, one likely to be encountered by 90% of the people who buy a Belkin Thunderbid Express Dock off the shelves of any Apple Store to use with a current generation Apple laptop or desktop computer.
But the Level III Belkin technician admmtted that this critical little piece of simple, straightforward information should have been readily available to their Level 1 techies who began helping me 5 person hours ago.  Would even have saved Balkin loads of customer service support time.
    And so the saga ends
Belkin owes me for helping them learn this precious lesson.

  • What kind of audio interface do I need for audio out from MainStage 3?

I have a Yamaha MO8 that I use for playing in the worship band at my church. In the past, I've just directly routed audio from the MO8 through a direct box and into the sound system.
I'm looking to switch my setup and use the Yamaha MO8 as a midi controller in MainStage 3. I have this part working — the problem is getting the audio from my MacBook Pro.
The audio output sounds fine through the MacBook Pro speakers or through headphones plugged into the audio out / headphone jack; however, if I plug the direct box into the MacBook Pro's audio out / headphone jack, the signal the sound system gets is very pretty weak and very distorted.
I'm assuming I need an audio interface between my MacBook Pro and the direct box / sound system. Since it's a 2010 MacBook Pro, I'm assuming my only output option is USB (unless the digital audio out can be used). If that's correct, would something like the Scarlet 2i2 work for me?
    Thanks…

Yes, you'll need some sort of audio interface to get a good signal back to your mixer.
The Scarlet 2i2 would work for you but you may find a few limitations.  I use a MOTU Audio Express and it has the advantage of being a mixer as well, so I can mix in a backup signal from the onboard audio outs of my controller (Kurzweil PC3x) in case MainStage goes down (it happens on rare occasion).  Firewire is my preference so the MOTU checks that box.  I also like that I can connect my MIDI cables to the MOTU and have one cable going into the computer.
If you need this sort of compact redundancy, I would shoot a little higher than the Scarlet.  If you don't feel the need for a backup line and USB works for you, then the Scarlet unit would be an excellent value.

  • MBP audio out from headphone jack is extremely low in volume

i just sent my macbook pro 13in (mid 2009 model) to the apple store (out of warranty). my problem was that the audio out from the headphone jack was very very low and staticky. the problem arose about 2-3wks ago. i've owned the laptop since june 2009. i've never dropped or damaged it (no water damage, etc)
my local apple store told me they had to replace logic board which seems extreme for what my problem is. i've read numerous forum posts saying that their computers came back with flickering "kernel panic"
has anyone else had a similar audio problem with their computer, and if so was it resolved in this manner?
    thanks!

I think you may be mistaken. the static coming from macbooks audio output port is as old a story as the macbook itself. IMO, epic fail on apple's part. I am debating complaining in a few months when I decide I deserve a better sound quality from a ridiculously overpriced laptop.

  • Is there an adaptor that can split the audio out from mic input?

I'd like to use the iPhone on a mixer borad for conferencing.  I'm looking for an adaptor that will allow me to separate audio (out) from mic (in) on the iPhone.  Any ideas?

    Will this work for you?

  • How do i get sound to my mixing board?

I am doing a media presentation and need the sound from my MacBook to connect into a sound board at a church...they have Microphone and 1/4" inputs...what do I need to do to make this work?

Cheapest way is just connect the Audio out / headphone, from macbook to the board. Stop by radio shack and tell them you want to connect 1/8" stereo to two 1/4" mono's.

  • Lightning connector for audio out

I have a DJ app on my IPAD Air which uses a split cue audio out lead from the headphone jack in order to cue music separately from the main mix. This works fine but I would prefer to use Airplay wireless to the speakers. If I then connect the headphone jack it disables airplay.
My question is, can the Lightning connector be used to transfer audio in which case I can use it for the headphone connection via suitable leads.
I don't mind using an 8 pin to 30 pin adapter if that's the way to go but not all these work for audio.
Any suggestions on lead combinations would be appreciated. Thanks

  • No audio out

I have had my ZEN Microphoto for about year and i had dropped it from about 6 feet up in the air onto hard tile on accident. It stopped outputting audio through the headphone jack. Is there anying i can do to fix it or should i just by a new player?

I think I'm not writing clear...I apologize... I've played with the Garageband and have recorded several times. My setup is...The Firepod is connected by Firewire to the Macbook Pro.  I do get audio if I connect my headphone to the headphone jack on the Firepod. (I'm under the impression It's audio from the Firepod not the mix from the laptop?)  I have a stereo adaptor to the headphone jack of the Mac going to the INPUT to the Presonus M4 multi headphone plug from there I'm not getting audio. (nor audio if I put my headphones on the Mac)  The same unit Presonus M4 AUDIO OUT is connected to my Alesis Monitors.
I could swear that's how it was before I switched laptops...all I did was disconnect the firewire and the headphone adaptor.
*If I change Audio Driver in Garageband preferences it cancels out the Firepod.  I have been using the Presonus M4 for all the recordings...
Is there any sequence of tests I can try to pinpoint the problem?
Thanks All and I really APOLOGIZE  for being so ignorant on this subject.

  • Digital Audio Outs not mentioned in manual.

I have a Pavillion p6140f PC. Below the monitor connector, above the mouse and keyboard inputs are "Digital Audio Out" RCA jacks.
My manual doesn't mention these, whatsoever.
I tried plugging them into my Yamaha mixer inputs with no success.
Is there a certain driver needed to operate these?
I recently reformatted the PC. It used to be Vista, then was Windows 7 Home and is now Win7Premium 64bit.
    Any advice would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

Have you plugged in the HDMI cable and connected it to a device such as a LCD display ot HDTV?
Have you set the input on the TV or display to Computer?
Have you checked in the  Control Panel in Sound to see if it shows ready? ( that would mean you had successfully installed the driver for your notebook's display)
Does your notebook have switchable graphics or only the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD inbuilt video solution?
