Audio Output Keeps Resetting
Fro some reason my audio setting keep resetting every time I shut my computer down. Not sure what is going on but I have to go back into System Preferences to rest them. Any thoughts?
It is a known issue. Switch is not flipping.
I would take it to an Apple Retail Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP) for evaluation, or call your nearest Apple Contact Center. Visit the Genius Bar at the Apple Retail Store, make a reservation.

Audio output keeps switching to Apple TV
My MacBook Pro 2.8 GHz doesn't support Airport Mirroring, yet every time I wake up my computer or come into range of my Apple TV it switches the audio output from my internal speakers to Apple TV. Only about 1 second of audio comes through the Apple TV, and then that stops too. I have to go into System Preferences, select a different output, then reselect "Internal Speakers" before I get audio back.
It's getting really annoying to have to do this half a dozen times a day. Any tips? Thanks! If, If you use LogMeIn, blame their sound driver.

Hi,
I have speakers that are connected to my Mac Pro via line out, but the output device keeps automatically resetting to the internal speaker for some reason. Resetting the PRAM didn't work. For the record, I'm running 10.7.5. Anybody know what the problem is here? Thanks.1. Reset SMC. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
Choose the method for:

My sound preference does not retain its output setting on restart. It resets to internal speakers. I'm getting irritated having to change it every time I turn on the Mac. I'm running the latest system software (10.10.2) on an early 2008 Mac Pro with 4 cores and 6 GB of RAM. This was not a problem before Yosemite, and everything else seems to be running fine. Any help appreciated.

X-fi extrememusic keeps resetting to 2/2.1 speakers on a restart after vista upgr
I checked the knowledgebase and it said to make sure x-fi is default device and disable other devices, which I have done, but everytime I reboot the settings in audio console keep resetting to 2/2. speaker configuration when I used 5.. If I manually set it, it works until a restart. Using driver package Any ideas?
If you actually performed an upgrade installation of vista from xp i can almost guarantee you nothing will work perfectly as it should. Upgrade installations never work perfectly and tend to lag quickly , i recommend that you perform clean install of vista if you plan on using it for a while. You probably didn't want to hear that but unfortunately thats the way windows has always been.
goodluck

Why do my sound output settings keep resetting after restart?
Just bought a MBPro with OS 10.6.4.
After restarting my sound output settings keep resetting to Soundflower (2ch) from Internal speakers.
It doesn't take too much to change it, but it is pretty annoying and I'm assuming there's some obscure setting that can fix this.
Anyone able to help? This fixed it on my Mac Pro. It might work on a MacBook Pro.
Delete these three files:
/Library/Preferences/com.apple.soundpref.plist
/Library/Preferences/Audio/com.apple.audio.DeviceSettings.plist
/Library/Preferences/Audio/com.apple.audio.SystemSettings.plist
Reselect whatever sound device you want as your default in the Sound Preference Pane.
Restart the computer. -
my iphone 4S no longer plays music output to speaker after updating to version 6.1.3. I am unable to reset the phone to an earlier version! How do I get my audio output to speaker back? (music, audible, youtube, netflix)
So you have business contacts that were lost... do you not have these on a Database in some shape or form? Sounds like you need to invest in a RAID1 backup setup for your computer so you dont have this issue in the future.
As for repairing your problem, sounds like you are going to need to start from scratch at this point or if the data is still on your phone look into a program that can take the information from the phone onto iTunes. -
Hi there,
Can anyone tell me how to make make Garageband ignore HDMI as an audio output-device on a 2013 Mac mini i7 using an Apogee jam as an input for bass and a Behringer USB DAC with RCA audio output? Now it keeps on prompting me: Do you want want to use the HDMI device (monitor without audio) for audio output? I'm also suffering massive audio lag issues with the Apogee jam after waking the mini from sleepmode, wich pretty much renders it useless.
Thanks in advance,
Grtz T.I think the easiest way to do this is to have the EyeTV app running in one user account and sent via HDMI to the TV, and use a separate user account for Screen Sharing. Both logins can be active at the same time and with Lion you can connect via screen sharing to which ever login you need.
With regards to the Mac video resolution changing, when it is not the current input on your AV receiver. This is 'normal', if the Mac sees no signal it drops down the a lower level. What you need is to buy a HDMI Detective Plus which tricks the Mac in to always seeing a signal and hence it will not drop down the resolution. See http://www.gefen.com/kvm/dproduct.jsp?prod_id=8005
The Mac mini does have an IR receiver. This can be used with the EyeTV app, iTunes, and similar. Yes I believe EyeTV would run for prolonged periods quite happily, it is has been around for a long time and had most of the rough edges polished off. However one issue you will have to deal with is that it does not automatically update its program guide data. For this you might have to write or modify an AppleScript. Elgato support or their user forums will be a lot of help.
You can set EyeTV to convert recordings to an iTunes (Apple TV) compatible format and then delete them from EyeTV.
The HDMI Detective should solve your handshaking problems. -
Hello!
I have an iMac (running iOS 10.6.8, not upgraded to Lion) that I'm having audio issues with. I have 5 profiles on this machine. The audio output will work fine out of one profile, then when switched to another, the profile will not have any audio output at all. Rebooting the machine will occasionally solve the problem. Administrator permissions are not the issue since this has also manifested itself on the administrator profile. I've also reset the NVRAM/PRAM and that hasn't helped. All my software is up to date and I recently upgraded the RAM to 2x2GB sticks. This problem was existing prior to the RAM upgrade.
Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!Hi Tony,
Long shot, but...
Open Audio Midi Setup in Applications>Utilities, see the input & output options & KHz setting there, some things will change it for their own use, then not set it back. -
Setting default audio output in itunes
When I open iTunes 7.0.1, it changes my audio output preferences to a USB headset I have plugged into my computer (and which I prefer to keep plugged in at all times for using Skype). Is there any way to make iTunes default to the regular line out, built in audio, without disconnecting my headset? Every time I open iTunes now, I have to reset the system audio preferences to line out.
Thanks for any advice
BillI figured out my problem. I have a plug-in called iWow installed in iTunes, and it was opening defaulted to headset sounds. Back to normal

Asrock ION330/Nvidia HDMI - No audio output
Machine was running archlinux and not been upgraded in over 6mths but HDMI audio worked fine. Decided to do a scratch build since all the changes in that time and have a nice clean system.
If it helps, this is what I install. Ssed this exact same install process for another Asrock ION330 and Acer Revo3610 (both same hardware) but neither use HDMI at all. Both VGA with either optical or analog audio. Both work with no additional config.
pacman -Sy nfs-utils screen ntp alsa-utils mlocate xorg-server xorg-xinit xorg-server-utils mesa nvidia ttf-dejavu xfce4 gamin slim mythtv unrar lirc xbmc wget
Get no sound output but also zero errors on any of the following commands. I should add that the receiver does not detect any audio coming in, ie it usually identifies how many channels of audio and type it is receiving.

HELP ASAP! no audio output device installed with hp pavilion dv2500
product name: hp pavilion dv2000

product number:2CE75228LJ
windows vista home premium 32bit
my hp keeps telling that have no audio output device installed and theres the the image for volume with a large red circle with a white x in it.
this is not true because i have contexant (i think that's what it is called) speakers installed.
Lately when i would restart my computer the sound would work intermittently but for the past two days whether i restart my computer or not the image for volume with a large red circle with a white x in it is still there and says no audio output device installed. PLEASE HELP!
This question was solved.
View Solution.Hi, you can try the below steps to resolve the issue :
Step 1 : Re-install audio drivers from HP Recovery Manager.

2. In the Recovery Manager window that displays, click Next. On the Reinstall software programs that came with your computer screen, click No, I would like to see other options . Then click Next .
3. In the Reinstall hardware drivers screen, click Yes . Then click Next. On the Welcome to Hardware Driver Reinstaller screen, click Next .
4. In the driver list, select the name of the sound adapter installed on the system. Then click Next. When complete, the Reinstallation is complete screen displays. Click Finish to restart the computer. After the computer starts, test for sound. If the issue persists perform step 2.
Step 2 : Re-install audio drivers manually
If there is no sound and the error still displays, update the audio driver from the weblink below :
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-63129-1&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&...
Step 3 : Restart the Windows Audio Service.
1. Click Start , type services.msc into the search field, and then select services.msc from the list when it becomes available to open the Programs window.
2. Scroll down to and select Windows Audio , right-click to open the drop-down menu, and then click Start .
3. Right-click Windows Audio , click Properties , and then verify that Startup Type is set to Automatic .

MBP 2011 running Lion.
Have been suffering on various front since I upgraded (in reality it feels like more of a downgrade) to Lion.
Latest and most annoying problem is the fact that the only audio output I have available is Digital out.
Great if I want plug into my home HiFi, not so good for just about the other 90% of the time I need to hear anything from my MBP.
Has anyone else had this issue and found a workaround?
I think the biggest question really is why would Apple launch a product soo in need of work?
Many thanks for any help with this issue. This problem actually has to do with more than waking-up issues. Sometimes the interface goes silent just when Logic is put in the background for awhile. Regarding the necessity for restarting-after-wake to keep things going, I can't recall ever having a problem similar to this since the days of OS9, and I work daily with Logic and many other audio apps. My firewire interfaces (Presonus and other) have been solidly reliable upon waking.

Audio output device same for all users Yosemite
I use more then one account on my recent Macbook Pro. For the first account I like to have the audio output set to the speakers but for the other account I want the audio output set to the headphones.
With Mavericks the Macbook remembered the last audio settings for each user account.
With Yosemite any changes to the audio settings (input, output, system sound, etc.) on one account affects the audio setting on other the user account.
I tried various audio settings to see if it affected them all. It seems to.
I tried seeing if it happened only when the users accounts were logged in or it was different on boot etc. It seems to always change the settings for all users no matter what.
I tried resetting the PRAM but that did not solve it.
I tried a 3rd party program called AudiSwitcher from the App store to see if this could help but no luck.
I searched here and more widely to see if anyone else was reporting this and found one other person who seemed to mention the same problem and they concluded "I did some tests and came to the conclusion that the system now does not remember settings for each user, and applies the current setting of audio output for all accounts."
Curious to know:
a) Does this affect other people? If not, I'll look for conflicting apps on my computer.
b) Is this intended behavior or should I look for a way to report it as a bug?
c) And most importantly if there is a way around it?
Thanks!I'm also have the same problem. I tested it on fresh Yosemite installation without any additional software. Your mentioned my conclusion about tests.
