Audio output selection on the fly?

I'm working in a rather cramped environment, and it's annoying to plug in/remove external speakers or headphones. Sometimes it's more convenient to use headphones rather than the built-in speakers, or vice versa. *Is there a way to choose to output sound from the built-in speakers even when an audio device is plugged into the audio out port on the back?*
I've tried Sound Source, but it doesn't seem to be working. Any other suggestions?

Bingo, maybe.
I have a Griffin iMic purchased in maybe 2002. I just experimented and discovered possible good news.
I plugged the iMic in a USB hub and it shows up under Sound in System Preferences, under both the Output and Input tabs. Then I plugged headphones into the iMic output jack. When I highlight the Internal Speakers the sound comes from the speakers. Then when I highlight the iMic the sound then comes from the iMic headphones. And you can shuttle between the two with the Sound status in the menu bar as Barney noted.
Hope this helps.

  • Audio Output Selection in 3rd Party Media Apps

In all 3rd party media apps that I have, including Netflix and Pandora, among others, I do not have that box/arrow button that allows me to choose which audio output to use.
I normally have my iPhone 4 (iOS 4.3) connected to a pico projector, and paired with a set of bluetooth headphones.
Depending on the order I plug the projector in, or pair the headphones, I can get the audio to play through the right channel, but it is very finicky. If there are any interruptions (call, text, ect) or if Ieave the app, and come back, it defaults to the serial connection, and tries to play the audio through the project.
Is the lack of the audio channel selection button on the iOS side or the app side?
    Thanks!

You should be able to reset the default app in application settings, then it'll ask again, but I don't remember how >_>

  • Is there a fix for Mountain Lion audio output settings after the laptop goes to sleep and wakes back up?

Mac Book Pro running Mountain Lion OS X 10.8.5 after the notebook sleeps audio and video does work (for example on YouTube).  I have been able to temporarily work around this by toggling the settings on Built-in Output in Audio Midi Setup, Audio window between 2ch-20bit Integer and 2ch-24bit Integer.  But this is a temporary fix until the laptop sleeps again.
When it's not working, all system sounds (emails "dings", delete file "swish", etc.) are silenced, and video playbacks on YouTube and elsewhere freeze and have no audio until the Audio Output settings are toggled then they all immediately start working.
Has anyone encountered the same?  Have a long term fix for this annoyance?
I cannot upgrade the OS to 10.9 Mavericks yet because of a corporate policy - there is some conflict with 10.9 and our corporate VPN connection.

  • Is it possible to stream Video to Apple TV (via Beamer with no real audio output) and at the same time stream Audio to an Airplay compatible device? (Bose Soundtouch)

I currently have the following set-up:
    Ipad Mini Retina (with Airplay)
Beamer without proper audio output (picobeamer)
    Bose Soundtouch (with Airplay)
    Apple TV (3rd Gen)
When I stream a video via the Ipad, I either have the sound on my Soundtouch or Video via the beamer. Is there an option to have both at same moment? It really looks like I cannot have both at the same moment?
    Thanks in advance.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Unfortunately, you can't split the Airplay stream as you would like to.

  • Noise on audio output when using the power adapter

I'm a musician and use my mid-2007 MBP 15" in my live rig. When I use the power adapter, I hear a buzz, sometimes accompanied by a slightly louder buzz that cycles on & off about 1x/second. There are a few weird things going on here:
    1. The buzz does not happen all the time. That leads me to think it may be noise in the AC line that the adapter is plugged into.
    2. The noise is heard when I use both the built-in audio output AND an external USB audio interface.
In any case, when I disconnect the power adapter and run my MBP on battery, the noise goes away completely. I can probably do this on most gigs, but I'm a little nervous since I run a FW drive, an external USB audio interface, and my midi keyboard (powered by USB) so I am putting a little heavier than usual load on the MBP's battery.
As I said, this may be a noisy AC line. Another guess is that it's the PMU inducing noise into the audio circuitry. I'm hoping a simple AC line filter can help me but I thought I would ask here first in case anyone else has dealt with this. TIA for any help!

I had a similar problem and fixed it with a $5 universal travel adapter. Yours might be different but here's my situation. Try it for little cost and see if it works.
I'm also a muso with an iMac running external KRK speakers via USB Mbox2. Previously I had a Macbook Pro and the same audio problem. I've been putting up with a very low volume, high pitch noise until now. I simply plugged the Mac power cord into a universal travel adapter which then goes into the wall. For Aussie users there is an adapter on ebay that will allow a 3 pin Aussie plug to go into female side and has a two pin Aussie male on the other. For US users you can probably get the same although there is a 59c product that will do the trick called a ground lift adapter. Applecare actually agreed this was the best fix and confirmed there would be no problems with power supply or Mac performance. What a gem ! God knows I've looked into all kinds of alternatives that could have cost hundreds instead of $5.

  • Changing the PXI-6624 Counter Output rate on the fly

I'm programming an application in VB.net 2005 to set several counter output channels (each with its own task) on the PXI-6624 card. I'd like to know if there is a way to change the frequency of the output without stopping the task, changing the frequency and restarting the task. I'm using the PXI-6624 card to simulate encoders and speed sensors.
    Thank you very much,

    Hi,
Yes, you can change the frequency on the fly. Here is a knowledgebase that will give you an insight of how you should approach this matter. Hi,
Remember that when we are deploying a wireless setup we should always do a site survey to determine the amount of APs you need, power levels to use on each AP, where to locate each AP so that you can get the required mbps per client on each AP since as you know wireless is half duplex and also a shared medium.
Also depending on how god the signal quality is too each client they will get a required data rate.
There would not be a specific number since this will all depend on the amount of clients you need to support on the site and bandwidth per client.
Here is the link for the FAQ of a site survey.

Version 10.0.3 is the latest version of iMovie. iMove '11 (as in 2011) is version 9.
iMovie saves your Projects automatically. So you can just choose to create a new Project. Your existing Projects will remain available for you to go back to whenever you like.
You can have as many Projects as you like. You don't need ot finish one before you begin another.
Post back if you have specific questions.

Go to the Edit -> Preferences-> Playback

  • Complaint-Airplay doesn't allow Output selection of Apple TV. Must reboot all the time.

When watching internet video, like TV, the audio output selection does not work to my Apple TV. Shuting down the internet and starting programing doesn't do anything. Must reboot computer and start over. Apple TV and my MacBook Pro were current software prior to the lastest update in Oct. 2013, and have been updated to the new  versions for both. Same problem. Cannot select the audio output. Selection is there, but 'clicking' on it does nothing. Sound remains on the Mac. After a full reboot, and making the selection BEFORE loading something for Apple TV viewing it works. NOT after you have used the computer or done other things.
FRUSTRATING. APPLE TECHS FIX UR SOFTWARE. I had hoped the new update might resolve....no JOY.

    Hi BDAqua,
Good thought of you, unfortunately it did not work out! I schedule to make a reinstallation of OS 10.3 on my other HardDisk and see if I can get it back to work again. The point is that I can't tell where things went wrong, since updates are carried out automatically by Apple anf I haven't used the Miglia for over a year!
Thanks in any case for your suggestion, and if I found a solution I certainly will report back.

  • Audio coming from both TV Speakers and external soundbar - how do I suppress the TV audio output?

Just after my warranty expired, my Toshiba 55TL515U started to play sounds through both the TV's speakers as well as outputting audio to my external Polk Audio soundbar, which is connected to the TV via the Digital Audio Output line. The TV never did this after I connected the external soundbar until a few days ago.
I don't want any sound to come out of the TV speakers, I only want sound to come out of the soundbar. There's a horrible echo effect that occurs when both sound systems are active.
I don't see a setting on any of the TV menus to control this. I would assume that if the TV senses an external audio device, it would no longer output any sound to the TV's speakers.
Is there a setting on the TV I'm missing, or is this something broken within my TV?
I called Polk Audio tech support, and they claim it's not a problem with the soundbar, but with the TV.
If anyone can comment on this, I'd be very thankful.

I have the same problem. When I mute the TV, I get sound only from Soundbar which is fine. But, everytime I turn on my tv, I had to mute my tv. And if I accidently press the volume button on TV, then both TV and Soundbar plays sound and that sucks.

  • Airport Express and the audio output.

I bought an Airport Express sometime last year, when it first came out. I don't have any of the packaging or the manual with me. What I would like to know is if Airport Express had support for both analog and optical audio output right from the start (when it was first released).
    Thanks.

Since its release over a year ago, there has only ever been one hardware version of the Airport Express. Therefore - yes - a combo analog/optical digital output has been built into the Airport Express right from the start.
You can download PDF versions of all the manuals at:

  • How does one loop playback of small selections within the timeline?

How does one loop a selection of footage from within the timeline? I'm trying to edit students' tapping hands and pencils on desks into small timed chunks that will play back as seamless loops and I need to be able to slowly shorten or elongate sections of footage as it plays and repeates until the loop matches the timing of the song we are making. I'm using PE8 and can't seen to find an easy way to do this. Surely there is one! Is there?

I appreciate the help everbody, but It looks like I didn't state my question effectively. Let me try again.
It will be easier if I explain what it is I am used to. This is what I need to know how to do in PE8, because the school in which I teach AV has chosen PE8 for my classes and won't let me install anything else.
In Sony Vegas - all versions, you can click and drag to quickly make a selection of video and audio. You can do this while video is rolling and you can then choose to have your A&V loop within this selection. I have seen replies on this forum where this feature within Vegas was treated as if it were a dumb thing. It's not dumb once you realize what it can be used to do for you. While continuing to loop within your slelection, you can move this selection throughout your timeline, rough tuning where you want your loop to be. If your loop needs to be exactly 66 frames, for instance, you could first set this selection at 66 frames and then move it up and down the timlene until you find the best place to cut. Or, in the case of trying to find where some sound within your selection makes a seamless loop, you can increase or decrease the size of your selection on the fly as the selection continues to repeat.
How do you do that in PE8? If it can't do it, can the full version of Premiere?
    Thanks again for the help.

    Hi,
    Try the following.
Shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold  down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter.
Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f5 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f9, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.
