Audio panned to the left

i recorded my guitar with the track panned to the left, because the track had a delay and the live delay was distracting soi had only one headphone on whilst the other had the guitar in it.
Now the track is panned to the left, if i pan it using the mixer it kindof works but is really quiet
but i dont want to do that because i only want to pan back that part of the track
if that makes sense!!!
also, if i hold down on a track, go to audio, go to audio instrument then i can select loads of different insert tracks: but only 4 audio tracks!! how can i get more audio tracks?
thanks

you must have recorded the guitar as a stereo track. goto the bottom of the channel strip and click on the little double circle; this will change the thrack to a mono track.
goto the track option in the arrange window and select add tracks (multiple if you want more than one). a window will open giving you a choice of type, stereo/mono and number of tracks. when you do this make sure you have the last audio track selected so they'll will continue in numerically consecutive order. that is if this is what you were asking for in the second part of your question.

  • Final Cut Pro X - Share - Export Media - H.264 - Audio is panned to the left?!

My video has a soundtrack that is a stereo .WAV that I can play in QuickTime with no problem.
I added the .WAV to my FCPX project, exported H.264 of the finished video, and when I play the resulting file in QuickTime, the audio is panned to the left. There is still some stereo separation but it's like the right channel has been turned down. Alternately playing the video and the original .WAV in QuickTime makes it extremely obvious, but it's actually noticeable (and very annoying) even without the comparison.
Does this happen to anyone who exports H.264 via the Share -> Export Media menu item, or is it something in my project? (I didn't do anything to the audio apart from dragging it onto the timeline - I tried deleting the audio and dragging the file back on again but it still ends up panned to the left in the output).

It was set to Surround and 48Khz. I set it to Stereo (and 44.1Khz for good measure, as that is the sample rate of my soundtrack) and then re-exported to H.264, and now the audo is perfectly centered.
    So that's perfect, thanks.
Now the only thing wrong with FCPX is how it crashes every ten minutes or so!

There is an empty text frame on your child/master page that is causing the page to become wider than you intend it to be.
To look for any such invisible out of the layout elements, I would recommend unlocking all the objects on page using "Object > Unlock all on page" option and then selecting all using "Edit > Select All". This would give you a bounding box that would include all the objects present on your page. If you see the bounding box is much larger in any dimension that you expect it to be... you got something to look for.

  • I recently downloaded itune 10.5.2 (11) when I run it the blue pane on the left does not exist, the one that shows your playlists, purchased music etc.

I was recently prompted to download the newest version of itunes.  I downloaded it and it actually says its 10.5.2 (11).  Regardless of the version once downloaded I opened it to use it and the blue pane on the left that contained the original playlists, purchased items etc is non existent.  Does anyone know if I am missing a setting or display set up or is it a biger problem?

  • Audio signal (3.5mm jack) constantly panned to the left.

    Hiya,
I've had my Macbook Pro for over a year with no significant problems, however today when I plugged my headphones in and started to listen to music, the sound came out much stronger from the left earphone than the right.
I tested with different applications and different headphones and they all experience the same problem, however from the actual inbuilt speakers, sound is evenly distributed.
The sound is about 25-30% stronger in the left channel compared to the right.
Anyone else encountered this problem/worked out how to fix it?

I had the same problem and found that in Preferences > Sound I had the sound balance switched all the way to the right.

I hope this works for you.

  • Adjusting Audio Pan in the Timeline

In the FCE 3.0 help pdf. manual there is a heading for a section: "Adjusting Volume Levels and Pan in the Timeline," but I can't find anywhere that it says anything about adjusting the pan in the timeline, just the levels.
I know how to adjust pan in the viewer, but is there actually a way to do it in the timeline also?

Martin, Thanks, but actually the sound mix on my project is presently quite complex as a clip by clip change in balance from left to right (depending on whether dialogue, sound effects, music, etc.) and I plan on adjusting the pan on each clip individually to especially retain the stereo effect of the music. I just thought it was sort of confusing that the help manual has a section heading on how to adjust pan in the timeline but then doesn't address the issue.
Thanks again, I may end up taking your advice.
    Hi Fran,
The only way I know of doing it to all of your
clips in the timeline at once would be to select one
audio clip, and adjust the pan to center (which is
what I believe you want to do, based on your earlier
post). Then select all other audio clips in
the timeline and do Paste Attributes (of course,
having selected just the Pan attribute before
clicking OK in the Paste Attributes window.
For more info, look under "Copying, Pasting &
Removing Clip Attributes" in your FCE manual. In the
FCEHD manual it's in Ch. 16 "Editing in the
    Timeline"

  • Audio Input on the Left Channel is fine, Right Channel, Not So Much...

Okay, so I'm attempting to record some audio into my eMac using it's 3.5mm Line Input Jack, but Sound Studio is telling me that all of the audio is coming out of the left channel.
I checked balance, it's a new cable that works fine otherwise, the device I'm recording from sounds fine on headphones.
    Any suggestions?

Hmm. I think someone more technically-inclined with audio could help you out here. I tried recording audio on my eMac with QuickTime Player (I'm not sure if you need QuickTime Pro to do this, otherwise I would suggest you try the same thing). I have a similar experience as you. The QuickTime A/V window (control-K) informs me that the audio balance is shifted completely to the right channel (rather than left, as you observe in Sound Studio). And there is no way to adjust this, it is also "greyed out". This QuickTime recording is through the built-in microphone on my eMac. Might there exist (pricier) external microphones that are specifically capable of stereo recording? Or perhaps our eMacs aren't capable of stereo recording, at least without hardware modifications. I don't know. Clearly, I'm ignorant about this. Perhaps there is a Discussion going on somewhere else around here that is more Audio-specific?

  • Vocal track is locked in place panned to the left

My vocal track will only play out the left output - if I pan to the right it just mutes itself.
    Can you help me please

You have probably recorded your mono vocal signal onto a stereo track where it ended up in the left channel. Convert the channel to mono by clicking and holding the stereo icon until you get a popup where you select only the left channel.
In the future make sure you create a mono channel for recording vocals (or any other mono sources).

  • Itunes does not show my audio cd on the left panel

    Hi,
I have a Dell Laptop with Windows 7.
When I put an audio CD into the DVD/CD-drive, I can hear the music with every program on my computer except from iTunes.
The audio CD is not shown on the left panel of iTunes.
The CD does not have a copy protection because iTunes on my father's computer does show the CD.
However, when I run the diagnostics, there a no errors. iTunes recognizes even the tracks on the CD etc. - everything is fine.
Only the CD is not shown on the left panel and I cannot hear the tracks of the CD nor rip it.
I have already checked the support sites, I have already checked the DVD/CD-drive filters, reinstalled iTunes, downloaded the latest firmware and the drivers etc. etc. (and everything else what is recommended on Apple's support sites).
Can anybody tell me how to solve this problem?

  • Built-In Microphone records audio only from the Left speaker

I'm not sure if my settings are correctly set up, but whenever I record through Logic, it only picks up sound from the Left Speaker of my MacBook Pro.
When I try to make noise through the Right Speaker, Logic's sound levels do not respond.
Any ideas why this is happening? I don't plan on using the built-in Microphone for much longer, but it's all I currently have at this point. Thanks!

    James,
Again, thanks for the response! I guess what Tokuda said about the mono Mic in the left speaker settles that. I was just confused, because when I used Sound Forge on my Windows partition, it would always pick up sound from both speakers (I think?). I could be wrong on that one too though.
As for goals, my long term goal is to produce Club/Dance music & some serious Vocal work with Logic. Only thing is I have no basis or ground knowledge of music. For instance, I don't even know how to play the piano, or read music for that matter. Sad, I know...but it is a work in progress. And the only Microphone I use is built-in and my voice overs always sound so bland & one-dimensional. No dynamics or great effects to them, like Tpayne, BSpears, or Madonna vocals. Not sure where I should start, maybe take some basic music theory courses at the local community college, grab an internship at a radio station, & then further my education @ SAE, or Berklee College of Music to learn more advanced editing techniques.
In the meantime, I have been producing Cheer, Dance, & Aerobic music for the past 5 years. It first started as a hobby, and then transformed into its own little business, and now I do hundreds of mixes for Cheerleaders & All Star programs all over the place! It came so natural to me though...Laying beats over songs, then adding my own creative touch to make it my own. I've been using Acid, which is GREAT for what I do, but isn't going to get me much further than that. That being said, I finally made the decision to move up to Logic, not only to broaden my musical horizons, but to hopefully continue making Cheer music with it as well.
Since Acid is PC only, I still do work on my desktop PC and have been slowly weaning myself from it. The Logic learning curve is extremely difficult (for me at least) and it's taken a lot of getting used to some things like NOT being able to cross-fade my loops. Very, very annoying. Nonetheless, I know I have to make the switch to Mac if I'm really serious about making it anywhere in this biz.
Anyway, I can totally email you one of my mixes (if you're interested). I would post a link here, but I gather most of the musicians on here wouldn't really appreciate it as much as I do, haha. Oh and by the way, thanks for taking the time to listen & help me out here. It means a lot man!

  • Audio Pans Left on Import

Every time I import a clip into Final Cut Pro 7 I notice (upon opening the corresponding audio in the Viewer) that the clip is set to "-1" (for panning) as opposed to "0". It doesn't matter if it's material I shot with my own camera or downloaded stock footage, it's always imported with a "-1" pan. Obviously I can reset each clip's pan settings, but I shouldn't have to. Does anyone know how to get FCP to import with clip volume centered? Is there a System Preference I'm overlooking?
    Thanks so much!

Audio recorded in stereo will display as panned to the left in the viewer. This is because there are 2 channels and it is only listing one of them. If you open the Audio Mixer (Option - 6) you will see both channels, one is panned to the left and one is panned to the right.

  • No audio in the left channel

I was given an old G4 and I'm not computer illiterate by any means but as a PC user I'm at a loss as to how to fix anything on a Mac. I've been using it for almost a year now and I'm not actually sure when this problem started but I get no audio out of the left channel. I've checked the audio balance in system preferences and the audio utilities and everything looks normal and in the center. Restarting doesn't do anything. I don't know how Macs work so I don't know if it's something as simple as downloading newer drivers. I'm running Mac OS X 10.4.1.1. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Thank you. I feel kind of foolish now. I only use headphones when I'm recording and I run into a similar, but as it turns out, different problem. I do get the left channel in my headphones so something must be wrong with my speakers (some 2.1 Logitech set I bought a long time ago).
However, when I try to record music, I don't get a left channel for the input. I've assumed until now they were related problems so I have just been recording in stereo, splitting the tracks, deleting the left, duplicating the right and making one of them a left. It's kind of a pain and now I have no idea what's causing that. I've tried running just a guitar, just a mic, both through a pedal, and both through my amp. I get the same problem every time so it's either my line-in or the 1/8"-1/8" chord I have. I don't have a spare to test the latter but I'll try that maybe tomorrow. Any idea what that problem could be if not the chord?
