Audio playback awful since softwear update

I have installed the latest version of iTunes software and now every song I play in iTunes sounds like a poor recording/skipping/distortion. I have also taken the liberty of updating my audio drivers' software, but to no avail. I have no problems with any other audio software, Winamp, Windows Media Player and Quicktime all run fine, as they alwyas did...
...HELP!!!

I suspected that you might get the newer version problem, which is why I advised you to save copies of your two library files.
If you haven't already done so make a copy of the files so that if you decide to go back to the latest version you can reuse the library database.
What you need to do is to drag iTunes Library.itl and iTunes Music library.xml from the iTunes folder to the desktop.
When you start iTunes you will have an empty library. Then use the following method to rebuild your library from the xml file that you previously saved.
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93313
Unfortunately this process doesn't recover all the meta data, which it is why you want to hang onto the version 7.4 library if you want to try upgrading again.
P.S. it is worth looking in the Previous iTunes Libraries folder (in the iTunes folder) to see if iTunes saved a copy of your old library when you upgraded. If it did, the filename will include the date you did the upgraded. If there is a saved itl file, with iTunes closed, you can copy it into the iTunes folder and rename it iTunes Library.itl after you draged the other file to your desktop.

I am not able to download mp4 files (video and audio) to iTunes since I updated to iTunes 11.  Thanks for your help.

Thank you for clarifying. Your question is in your browser, not in iTunes. Each download link is different, and it has nothing to do with the File menu. You can save media files by secondary-clicking on the link to the media file and selecting Save File to "[your downloads folder".

  • ISight audio no go since System Update

Since last week's System Update my external iSight mic is no longer available as a choice for audio input in any app or in System Preferences->Sound. Have checked all the heretofore posted remedies to no avail. Works perfectly when I boot from my most recent backup disc (no Sys Update from last week). I see some others have had audio AND vid probs but mine is audio only. I get vid in all apps but no mic recognized. Any ideas or do I have to wait for another update from Apple to fix the prob?

Well done on the good troubleshooting and clear explanation in your post, Jimbo!
There is no need to await a later update. My external iSights work with the latest OS system software.
Because your same iSight (and Firewire cable?) works with your pre-update system, perhaps your download or update installation had problems. Run the update again, this time with the Combo version as follows:
      • Connect external iSight.
      • Restart Mac and then use your Mac's Disk Utility to repair permissions.
      • Download and install http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1048
      • Repair permissions again as soon as the restart completes the Combo Update.
      • Then check to see if iSight's mic is available now.
If you still have problems, the troubleshooting suggestions here may give you some more ideas:

  • How do I fix the audio on facetime since I updated itunes

I updated to the lastest version of itunes and now the audio on facetime will not work.  This is the same problem on my imac, my macair and my ipad2. any solutions?

ok, well let me ask a few questions for clarification.
Does the phone show up on the left side of itunes under devices?
If the phone is not even seen by itunes, a sync would not be possible.
If you have looked at the 2 articles that gnome posted, and your device is still not seen on your computer...the next step is to plug the iphone into another computer to see if another computer will see the phone.
Basicly trying to figure out if there is an issue with your USB ports on your computer, or the phone itself
As your phone is more then 18 months old, if you have applecare, you may need to have it replaced, if the phone is not seen on ANY computer.
But if it is seen on other computers, the issue is on your system somewhere, either the ports, or security software

  • Won't recognize my Audio CD's since last update?

Every CD I put into my MacBook Pro mounts as a Blank CD. I get this:
    "You've inserted a Blank CD"
Therefore I can no longer import CD's to itunes.
DVDS are fine but Audio CD's not working.

If it is an MP3 CD, just put it in the drive and copy the files to your hard drive. Then you can add them to your library.

  • Choppy, distorted audio on Portege Z930 after updating from Win7 to Win8 64

Just wanted to share an info with you which cost me some time to work out, regarding the audio playback on a Portege Z930.
When I got my brand new Z930-14L, it was running Win7.
I tested everything like you do when you get a new machine and it all worked fine - including audio playback.
When I updated to Win8-64 from the CDs that came with the computer, still everything seemed to work fine and I had not changed any driver or setup.
However, after a couple of minutes, the audio playback detoriated. It got choppy, distorted, interrupted, stuttering and I was shocked.
Funnily, as soon as I turned my attention to the computer again, playback was OK again - though no screensaver had come up and no power save mode came up in such short time. I knew it was no hardware issue (because it worked under Win7), it was not a driver issue (because the first 5 minutes the sound was immaculate), it was not a ground loop (as many have suggested) because that sounds differently.
Thanks to another forum, I found out that it is actually the combination of Windows Defender, Win8-64 Pro and the audio driver that causes this. If the device is idle for some minutes, Defender thinks its a good idea to use the idle time to scan the SSD drive - causing inteference with the audio playback. Of course, you cannot simply disable or switch off the central antivirus process, which would kinda ruin the whole point. :-)
_So I installed Kaspersky suite on the machine (which automatically disables the Windows Defender) and the issue was gone!_ This is probably the only time that installing an antivirus suite FIXES an issue. :-)
BTW, this is probably not limited to this particular antivirus product, just play a bit with Defender.
    Best, Yuppie

    >So I installed Kaspersky suite on the machine (which automatically disables the Windows Defender) and the issue was gone! This is probably the only time that installing an antivirus suite FIXES an issue.
Thank you very much for sharing this details here in the community.
I guess information could be useful for others who have such similar sound problems.

  • IPhone 4 audio playback cuts out after latest update (5.1)

My phones audio playback ( podcast, audiobook or music) cuts out at random intervals during playback.
This happens when listening through apple headPhones or my audio lead aux input to my stereo.
This has only started since the last software update (5.1). It's really frustrating as you often hit the jump back or forward arrows when restarting, instead of the intended Play symbol ( they are close together). This is really frustrating when your listing to an hour+ podcast.
Is anyone else having this problem since the update?

Same problem here! My phone was functioning correctly after the update until today, when it randomly attempted it's own emergency call, then requested that I turn on location services. When I hit cancel, it repeatedly requested that I turn on the service. When I agreed to turn on location services, it defaulted to the screen with the iTunes logo and the USB cable. Since then, I have been unable to get it to function. The phone has been switching between a black screen and the apple screen and buzzing periodically. When I touched the apple, it pixellated and melted away. I did see a message that the iPhone needed to be activated once and very briefly. I managed to connect it to iTunes using an old troubleshooting guide, but when I asked iTunes to restore it to factory settings (politely, thank you), it gave me error 21 (unknown error) and said it was unable to restore.
    Hopefully someone has an answer...?

  • Since installing iTunes 7.3, all audio playback on CD/DVD drive skips

    Hi,
I am running Windows XP home edition, and have recently downloaded iTunes 7.3.
Since installing iTunes, all audio playback via my CD/DVD skips/stutters. This occurs in all media playes, Windows Media, Sonic DVD etc. Audio files stored on the hard drive play back fine through these same programs. So far I have updated firmware and drivers for my CD/DVD drive and sound card.
I have looked on this site and Dells, and cant find any solutions as to what the problem may be.
    Can anyone help?
    Cheers
    Aidan

One thing you could try is to check your computer manufactures site to see if there is a firmware update for your CD drive.
Apple offer this help on this:

my audio is being funny on my mac. It is brand new, and hasn't had trouble since this update. It gets stuck at full blast with a / though it. then no audio comes out. Once I turn it off it fixes it self thouhgh, or if I wait a while it finally fixes it's self. If this happening to anyone else?

I don't think that is normal behavior. The long press is possibly causing the system to force power down, which would then allow it to power back up.
Just to make sure, all drivers are up-to-date? Are there pending BIOS updates? If so, you'll want to make sure it can restart properly before applying the BIOS update
Try an Ubuntu LiveUSB or LiveCD to rule out software issues.
If that doesn't work, try taking out the battery and AC, pressing the power button ten times, then holding it for ten. This is usually the remedy for another issue, but try it anyway.
If that doesn't work, then try resetting the BIOS settings. Then try unplugging the CMOS battery overnight. Otherwise, might have to call for warranty.

  • Audio playback problems in Safari since Mavericks upgrade

I've been having intermittent audio problems in Safari ever since upgrading to Mavericks on my iMac.
Google Play Music doesn't make any sound at all in Safari. Works fine in Firefox.
Downloading audio clips/mp3 playback in Safari has intermittent clicks/pops & sounds terrible.
Tried installing latest version of Flash player...no help.
Everything used to be fine before upgrading to Mavericks.
    What gives?

I did the following and got it working again....unfortunately, I'm not sure which action specifically fixed the problem, because I did a few at the same time.
    From Google Support:
"Alternatively, you may enable HTML 5 audio without the need for flash by clicking on the gear icon in the upper right corner and selecting 'Music Labs'. From here, you may click the radial 'Enabled' button to the right of the HTML 5 description.(Note: You must be using Chrome, Safari 3.1+ or IE 9+)
Clearing your browser's history and cache has been reported as solving this issue."
    Works fine now.
Note: Although Google Play Music is working now, MP3 audio playback directly through the Safari browser still sounds clicky/poppy. This issue doesn't happen when using Firefox.

  • ATV (Gen3) Newest updates severely distort audio playback from iTunes. Please Help!!!

I just updated my iTunes and ATV (Gen3) to the newest versions and immediately noticed severe distortion in audio playback from iTunes library. No hardware changes have been made and yesterday the sound quality was just fine. I have one running an optical cable into a high end receiver and another running off a HDMI cable into the TV with powered Speakers for output. I checked both systems on all inputs and it's only the Apple TV with the distortion. Someone please help as that is the only thing I really use on the device. iTunes version 12.0.1.26

Weird, I just opened iTunes to add some songs and now its playing fine.
Though I still can't figure out how to change the columns and having them stick to what I want .

  • I have a m-audio producer usb microphone and since the update on Dec. 22, 2013 Logic hasn't been allowing me to record with it. Logic is reading the microphone as the input but the audio tracks don't have the record enable button. What's wrong?

I have a m-audio producer usb microphone and since the update on Dec. 22, 2013 Logic hasn't been allowing me to record with it. Logic is reading the microphone as the input but the audio tracks don't have the record enable button and won't let me select an input for the audio track on the inspector panel. What are some possible solutions.

Certain M-Audio USB devices (along with some other USB2 class compliant devices that don't use drivers) no longer work with Logic Pro X 10.0.5
At this time it is unknown as to why this has happened. Nor is it known if Apple will need to fix it or if it is up to the Developers of said USB2 devices  to remedy the problem.
In the mean time, assuming you made/could make backups prior to updating to 10.0.5.... the solution is to roll back to LPX 10.0.4...

  • Bluetooth audio not working since 4.4.2 update

Since the update to 4.4.2 bluetooh audio no longer plays to my Marley Bag of Riddim portable bluetooth speaker...
    http://www.thehouseofmarley.com.au/audio-systems/bag-of-riddim-bluetooth-portable-audio-system.html
But it does still work with my LG HBS730 bluetooth headset...
When on 4.3 it worked fine...with both the Bag & Headset
Interesting to note that my old HTC Desire (android 2.3.3) still streams audio via bluetooth fine to the Bag and also to my LG HBS730 bluetooth headset.
How can i fix it please? It is clearly releated to the 4.4.2 android update...
    Thanks
    Paul
Edit: Is it possible to roll it back to official droid 4.3 ??

I have same problem, after update no sound from my car player pioneer Mvh-350bt.

  • Iphone/Apple TV airplay since phone update

Since I updated my Iphone, I can't airplay videos (you tube) from my phone onto the TV.  When I called Apple support they said it never should have worked but it always had. I have 2nd iphone tha I didn't updated yet and I can still pull up a you tube video on my phone and then hit the airplay icon and it plays on my TV (via Apple TV).  Anyone else have this problem?  Solution?

Ditto. I've noticed that it is snappier with changing menus and holding down the play button to bring up the chapter/audio menu is much quicker and smoother. But with that being said, I've seen at times that the video playback is choppy, especially when playing after a pause or pulling up the time bar at the bottom.
Oh well. Here's hoping it's fixed in 2.4. I have to wonder if Apple is having a problem adding new features but is hitting a wall with regards to system resources (memory/processing power).

  • New MAC PRO: itunes audio playback-stuttering, glitching, skipping

I have a brand new mac pro 3.2ghz quad, with 8gb ram (bought a couple weeks ago). All seems fine with the exception of brief skips, glitches and stutters with audio playback in itunes. I tried updating to itunes 11 and this did not resolve the problem. My music files play fine on my girlfriends macbook pro (purchased over a year ago), and never had any problems on my old machine (imac 24inch aluminum). I went to apple with the problem and after multiple system recoveries they determined that the computer was faulty and sent me a replacement. I just received the replacement and tested out some downloaded music from the itunes store and the same problem happened. Am I just unlucky to get two computers with this issue? Is it the Mac Pros? Has anyone had this issue with mac based machines, specifically the mac pros? I saw another thread on the issue but seemed to be primarily windows users running itunes. The skipping happens as frequent as every 20-30 seconds to every few minutes, but it is definitely enough to notice
    Thanks.
    Baffled,
    Greg

    Hi Greg.
I seem to have discovered this problem this weekend. I listen to a lot of music from my apple devices and have done for years. What I have noticed this weekend is that both my Macbook 2008 and iMac late 2010 both suffer with a brief stutter every minute or so making the enjoyment of listening to music a little annoying. Both are running Mountain Lion 10.8.2. My iMac is running the 2.93 GHz intel i7 processor with 8GB ram. Playing music should be a doddle!
From my point of view both Macs are running independently to external speakers. The music I am running on those 2 devices has been ripped on both devices. e.g. Macbook has ripped and plays Apple Lossless format and my iMac has ripped and plays songs in 320kbps. My guess is its a bug with the new iTunes 11 or Mountain Lion although I have been using 11 since its release.
While I'm not able to supply a fix I think its safe to say its not your new Mac Pro. One other thing to note is that I have been running up until this weekend a 7 or 8 year old Mac Mini as a media device in my kitchen playing Apple Lossless format with no issues at all. This device however is running Snow Leopard with all updates applied. The Macbook is now playing the Lossless music with stutters that was ripped on the Mac Mini that was playing OK.
So is the problem Mountain Lion?
    Take care
    Paul
