Audio playback delay using M-Audio Audiophile

I have an MBP, 2.66 GHz i7, 4GB 1067 Mhz DDR3 Ram. External monitor on DVI. OS X 10.6.8
I've just started using FCP X and have cut one movie with it ( http://youtu.be/SUQLTk4aCS8 )
However I am now experiencing a problem that audio playback is about 10 frames behind the video, even though the waveform on the screen lines up with the video.
I am using an M-Audio Audiophile firewire audio interface to playback audio. When I switch back to the internal soundcard audio sync is fine. This problem started after I updated the M-Audio driver, as the one on the MBP was the one that transferred across when I copied all my files from my previous MBP (I can't remember Apple's name for this process, when you connect the new computer to old computer by firewire and transfer all files and settings automatically)
The M-Audio control panel wasn't working on this MBP so I updated to the newset driver, the 64 bit version. I assume the i7 and OS X 10.6.8 is 64 bit but I am not positive as I could not find any guidance on my computer or elsewhere.
Can anyone help me with this? I prefer the sound quality of my Audiophile, I find the internal soundcard very trebly. Just want to get rid of the playback delay.

Thanks for responding.
It seems quite strange that the driver update caused the problem...maybe I should roll back to the previous driver? worth a try I guess...although this is a new machine so doing that could cause other problems.
ANNNNOYING....on the internal soundcard, whenever I click the mouse or scroll the timeline I hear annoying clicks and pops thru my speakers.
What kind of 'pro' software doesnt let u use an external soundcard. I think Apple really screwed up here. I feel sorry for everyone who invested in full-on FCP suites and training time for editing feature films who are no longer going to get updates and support.

  • Audio playback delayed thru Firewire monitor - JVC BR-DV3000

First I apologize for the length of this post, but I want to make sure I've adequately described the problem. For years, I've edited with FCP using a JVC HR-DVS2U (DV/SVHS combo deck) with great results. I use it to capture and output through firewire, also connected is a monitor and a UVW-1600 Beta machine.
Now a buddy of mine also has a system using a JVC BR-DV3000. When I attempted to set his system up similar to mine, using the DV deck as the conduit for monitoring and recording to beta, he complained about audio dropping out at the beginning of transitions in the timeline. This was the weirdest thing! How does the DV machine know that a transition is taking place?! I thought it was just data out. I finally traded out machines with him and hooked it up to my system. At first, I didn't have any problems. I mainly edit 30-second commercials, so I played back a timeline with three dozen transitions in it without a hitch! So now I'm really confused, until one day I had a 20 minute long timeline of about 20 promos back to back, all digitized from beta. Sure enough there was the audio playback delay. I switched the audio playback from firewire to computer audio out and I did not have the problem, but I could not record out to tape in this configuration. Then I thought maybe it's just the length of the timeline, so I opened up a commercial timeline that plays back fine and pasted one of the beta promos in there. The 30 second spot played back fine and then when it hit the beta vid it had the audio dropout. Now understand, the audio is NOT out of sync, it just drops out for about two seconds when playing back from the timeline. You can watch the VU meter on the deck, it completely loses the audio for two seconds, mostly when you first start the timeline and at most transitions. I now think it may have something to do with the source material. I just digitized some video from DV that was shot on a JVC camera, when most of the stuff I shoot is from a Canon XL1. The JVC camera footage has this dropout issue. Any clues?

This has happened to me too. The problem is with the firmware in older DV3000 decks. JVC has an update, but you can't do it yourself. JVC or your dealer will have to do it for you. In the meantime there is a workaround. Make sure your DV3000 is powered on FIRST. Then start FCP. That trick always worked for me. Good Luck.

  • EXTERNAL SOUNDCARD: Unable to connect to M-Audio Audiophile USB. Is it on?

    Hello,
I am brand new to Mac's, this is my first ever one i've had that i'm on right now.
I have my M-Audio Audiopjile USB External Soundcard plugged in, switched on, everything exactly how it was in my PC.
I just downloaded the drivers for it from the website but I keep getting the message in the title of this question on my system preferences > other > m-audio audiophile.
The reason I need my soundcard working is because it is connected to my two studio monitor speakers that I use for music production.
Any help would be hugely appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Alex.

    Hi Dan,
Apologies for the extremely long reply, I don't often check the email associated with this account.
I never did end up resolving my issue. I accepted defeat and got myself a new soundcard. The only thing I could possibly think of is that the audiophile soundcard just isn't compatible with the Mac, I know the website says it is but that definitely wasn't the case for me and it sounds like it's the same for you.
Sorry I couldn't give you any better help dude. If it helps I replaced mine with a Tascam US-200, that definitely does work!

  • How to...snapshot with delay using Webcam Center ?

    Hi all,
I was wondering if I could take some snapshot with a certain delay using Webcam Center ?
Meaning I click on the snapshot button and I got like 0 secs to move on before I got the screen.
And if that's not possible using Webcam Center, would you know any other soft doing that ?
    Thanks for your time.

I have done this in the past by using a command line version of putty called plink.exe

  • Audio levels on an external monitor vary during playback when using HDMI audio

I've been having issues with movie playback using a large 1080p HDMI TV.   During playback the audio level will come in strong, go faint, then go strong again, but not on any sort of pattern I could discern.   It did this on three seperate movies legally purchased via iTunes.  I get audio and video without trouble, its just the audio goes soft when it shouldn't.
If you remember the VHS days and "MACROVISION" encoding, then you have an idea what it was doing, although it was the audio levels, not the video playback.
Is this a fault of the system, a DRM gremlin, or something else?

I think you may be onto something with the graphics card concept. The problem I am having only exists when I am working on an HD project. When I switched back to DV-NTSC then the monitor is fine during playback.
Yes, I am routing my external monitor through my DV deck, which is not an HD deck - so again, that could be another weak link in the chain.
This is the first HD project that I am editing, so obviously a few kinks still need to be worked out. My internal hard drive has 1.5 gigs of ram but I am not sure what the specs are on the graphics card.

  • Audio playback stuttering using AirPlay under iOS 8

I encountered a lot stuttering in audio playback with apples music app and Spotify using AirPlay mode with my AirPort express. It occurs not only in background use, but also when the apps are on top. Reseted all devices, nothing helped the issue. Very annoying, it never happend in the previous builds. I think it's a iOS 8 problem and hope Apple solves it soon. My internet works fine at 50 mbit though.

I've contacted Apple Care lately, and though they where very nice and kind, they pretended to never have heard about the issue and claimed, it should work. they gave it to their developing engineers though. Let's wait and see...

  • Audio will not playback when using the blackmagic card

    Hey
I have a Premiere Pro CS.5.5 running on MacPro running lion and with a black magic extreme 3d card.
Audio wont playback in source window, i hit play and nothing happens the time and cursor just stand still, no audio playing no errors no nothing.
However if i put that wav file in my timeline everything works fine.
Video plays fine in the source monitor and outputs to my SDI monitor with the black magic card.
If i go to preferences and player settings and select adobe player as the default instead of blackmagic then the audio (and still video) works fine.
in the source viewer but i am not getting anny image on my SDI monitor.
The timeline and record window everything still works fine.
    Have annyboddy had this problem
    Thank you

    Everything is set up right.
And when i put stuff in the timeline all is outputting fine on the monitor and with the audio
So if i am trying to play a wav file in the source window, the cursor is not moving and the timecode is not counting it just dosent move.
But as soon as i drag the wav file to the timeline there is no problem, the audio file is playing just perfect.
So it is the source window that is the problem.

  • Encoding Audio delay using iDVD ...

Why are Apple not rectifying this bug?
iDVD appears, even to the most advanced user, to have crashed when it comes to the Encoding Audio section. But it hasn't. Let it run. Yes I know that even if you check the Force Quit menu it shows iDVD as "not responding" but it is working.
Come on Apple - sort this out.
    MacBookPro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

iDVD 6 Encoding audio "delay." So am I supposed to believe that iDVD is actually "working" on encoding the audio even when after 12 hours it says in the Force Quit menu that iDVD is "not responding" and there's a spinning cursor?? Balderdash!
I have spent the greater part of the last 3 days trying to finish off a massive project for my family: transferring all our old home videos to DVD. Actually, I spent many many additional hours adding a soundtrack with songs and sound effects to these silent movies. And all for nothing!
Trying to fix the problem of iDVD stopping responding during audio encoding, we bought a 500 Gb hard drive to clear up more space on the hard drive: $$!
I even tried turning off the audio track and just burning the dvd without it. Not even that worked! It still freezes up.
APPLE, if you are listening. PLEASE PLEASE FIX THIS. This was to be my Christmas Gift to the family, and your product has FAILED.

  • M-Audio Audiophile USB

Anyone else experiencing kernel panics when using this audio interface? There is no Leo driver yet, so maybe this is the cause? Seems odd that it works perfectly most of the time though...
Also, a search of their website revealed this, which I didn't know:
There are 2 USB ports on the left side of the MacBook models. Due to the current USB configuration of the MacBook under OS X, the use of USB audio devices is supported on the front USB port only (the port farthest away from the screen). Use of such devices on the rear USB port is not advised because it may cause audio interrupts and/or dropped samples. However, the use of an iLok dongle on the rear port has been qualified and is fully supported.'

  • M-Audio Audiophile 2496 PCI card installed, now computer will not turn off

I installed Audiophile 2496 card + "live lite 4" software and now my computer will not turn off. It goes through the motions, but than just reboots. I have to hold the start button to kill it. I also have a Firmtek SATA PCI card and a USB 2.0 PCI card. Is there some way to solve this short of pulling the card?

    Hi-
Do you have the proper driver version installed?

  • Playback delay after creating in/out points

Hi, I'm editing with Premiere CS6 on a 2008 Macbook pro in OSX 10.6.8.  I'm using Multi Camera Source Sequences (with two camera angles) and having an issue when setting In and Out points in the Source Monitor.  Playback works fine, but as soon as I set an in or out point, the playback immediately has a delay.  So the audio is completey out of sync with the video, by a large degree.  In fact, I can't even tell as it's so out of sync.  If I remove the in and out points, then playback returns to normal.  Any ideas as to what may be causing this issue?

  • Playback delay of customized DataSource/Stream

I have developed a centralized voice chat conferencing program using JMF. The server mixes received streams into a single stream and sends the mixed stream to each client. To make this possible, I have developed my own DataSource and Stream classes. My stream class uses the standard GSM_RTP audio format. When a client receives the mixed stream, the client immediately creates a player for the stream. The player spends about four seconds realizing the stream before playback begins. If I send a non-mixed/non-customized stream to the clients, there is no delay. Any ideas as to why a customized stream would cause the player to delay for so long?

I found the problem. I had some old code left over from the previous version that was setting the buffer length and threshold for the receive RTPManager. As soon as I removed this code, there was no longer a delay realizing the player.

  • QT playback delayed after upgrade to 10.6

Just upgraded MacPro Dual Quad to 10.6.
Ran all the updates - everything is current.
Something happened to QuickTime playback, both V10 and V7 Pro have problem playing regular mp4 or m4v files, same ones that my MacBook Pro with 10.6.2 plays just fine.
In short - click on Play button in QT 10, and nothing plays, after a while "application is not responding" will appear in Force Quit window.
Using QT 7 Pro is a bit better, but it takes about 5 seconds till it starts. Sometimes I get a rainbow ball till it start playing....
I ran Snow Leopard Cache Cleaner, then four utilities programs - Disk Utility, Drive Genius, TechTool Pro and Disk Warrior from MacBook while MacPro was in FW Target mode.
    No luck.
Downloaded QT 7 to reinstall, but it doesn't let me as QT is "already installed on this drive." And would it help QT 10, that's another question.
I am not new to computers, but seems like a hit a wall.
Am I the only one "lucky" with this ot somebody else had this issue as well?
Any thoughts on what to do next?
    Anything will be greatly appreciated!
    :: Iggio ::

    Hello David,
    Thank you for your reply!
I was not clear enough first time, sorry. QT 7 was installed originally during the 10.6 upgrade, I wanted to have it as I have QT Pro license and use its editing features. In my case, QT 7 had a bit less of delay then QT 10 Player. I wanted to reinstall QT 7 hoping it will wipe out some old prefs or other files that may be were left from 10.5... That's when I couldn't install it again, as it was already there.
At this point I crossed the threshold of patience and wiped everything clean.
I had a backup of 10.5.8 of this drive that I made right before 10.6 upgrade (which I recommend to anyone to do), and now I run my MacPro from that drive.
I installed 10.6 after I erased the main drive completely, and will reinstall all the apps and plugs again. It is a massive pain, as I have many audio plugins and video applications, but once it is done the result is usually worth the time and effort.
My friend at APPLE Store always tells me - upgrades are for those who has no patience or on the road Well time for me to have patience.
Thank you for reply - you were the only one out off thousands on this discussion board!
    All the best!

  • 16:9 Playback Procedures using FCPHD/DVDSP2 and Canon GL2 DV camcorder

Hello everyone. I did some extensive searching on this topic only to get mixed results and generally confused. I'm hoping to get a 'step-by-step' process on creating 16:9 video for playback on a 16:9 televison (whether or not it's an HD, Plasma or SD TV set).
All of my tests so far have resulted in 4:3 video with black bars/cropping/curtains on either side of the video displayed on a widescreen set. The only way to fill the screen is to manually adjust the picture setting on the TV to stretch the image to fit the screen, which also distorts or stretches the video.
What I've done, so far, using a Canon GL2 set in 16:9 recording mode, is capture to FCPHD, which automatically displayed the vertically stretched footage in 16:9 mode with black letterboxing filling the top and bottom gaps. No matter how I export the video, it always comes out in a 4:3 ratio with the same letterboxing, which I'm trying to get rid of. I simply want the 16:9 image to completely fill the screen when played back from a DVD player w/o having to adjust the TV's settings which only distorts the image.
I've tried various setting in both FCP and DVDSP2, checking the anamorphic box and unchecking it, exporting at 16:9, encoding at 16:9, but the pesky letterboxing will not go away.
So, my question is how do I import and export this video to and from FCP to DVDSP to achieve full 16:9 playback? IE... playback w/o the letterboxing on a 16:9 television set? I understand the letterboxing will and should appear on a 4:3 set. Note: I am recording in 16:9 mode (which stretches the vertical 4:3 viewfinder image--not the 16:9 guide setting) using a Canon GL2... which subsequently advertises that by recording this way, achieving 16:9 video playback on 16:9 televisions is possible (basically Digital video displayed as HD video would be). I'm looking for a step-by-step process from capturing to exporting in FCPHD to producing a properly formatted DVD in DVDSP2. I prefer exporting using Quicktime Compressor, but am open to other ideas.
Thanks to any replies in advance!

I'm looking for a step-by-step process from capturing to exporting in FCPHD to producing a properly formatted DVD in DVDSP2. I prefer exporting using Quicktime Compressor, but am open to other ideas.
    Did someone say step-by-step?
Press Control-Q to bring up the Easy Setup dialog. Check the 'Show All' box in the upper-right corner. Then select DV-NTSC Anamorphic and click OK.
Confirm that all your clips from the GL2 are flagged as Anamorphic in the Browser.
Create a new sequence in the Browser. If you selected the right Easy Setup, this new sequence should be Anamorphic.
Copy and paste the clips from your (formerly) final sequence into your newly created anamorphic sequence. Your clips will probably not look right - they'll be windowboxed. To correct this:
    Select all your clips
Press Option-Command-V to bring up the Remove Attributes dialog.
Select Distort from the Video options, then click OK.
Your clips should now stretch to fill the 16:9 frame.
Export to DVD Studio Pro, however you like (QuickTime, Compressor or directly into DVDSP)
In DVD Studio Pro, after you've imported your assets, place your video & audio into a track
With the Track's properties available in the Inspector, alter the Display Mode setting to 16:9 Letterbox (just in case it's set to '4:3')
Having said all that, your use of 'letterboxing' in FCP leads me to believe that your major oversight is not using an anamorphic sequence while you're editing. Once that's corrected, your workflow otherwise seems correct.
    Good luck.
