Audio Playback from Headphones Only - not speakers (CS6)

I prefer to work with my USB headphones, but if I need to show someone what I'm working on I'll want to be able to playback a sequence in progress through the speakers. This used to be a simple matter of unplugging the headphones and it would automatically default back to sending the audio through the speakers. But at a certain point Adobe Premiere ceased to work that way. I would unplug the headphones and it would playback with no audio. I discovered if I saved my project, closed premiere, then made sure the headphones were unplugged when opening Premiere, it would work through the speakers. Now, however, even that won't work. It just simply won't playback through the speakers - ever. Playback through the headphones continues to work fine. Audio playback from other programs continue to go through the speakers just fine.
I've gone into the audio output and output mapping preferences, and although I don't know what I'm doing there I simply tried every single option one at a time to see if it would solve the problem, but nothing changed it. Any suggestions?

Dave, I have had this problem on my MacBook Pro for many months. I've tried EVERYTHING Apple suggested - SMC reset, PRAM reset, everything EXCEPT take it in to be serviced by Apple. Here is my solution, which overcomes the hardware failure caused by the headphone jack optical sensor thinking something is plugged in there when there isn't.
If you do not want to pay Apple to fix your MacBook optical sound jack hardware, you can overcome the problem with this procedure.
This fix re-routes the output sound to the headphone jack input, and then to the speakers.
Step 1. Plug headphones in (don’t worry, you won’t use them)
Step 2. Change System Preferences -> Sound -> Change Internal Speakers to an Input!
Step 3. Done!

Boot Camp - audio coming from headphones AND internal speakers

Am not sure how prevalent this problem is. I've got XP Pro running on my iMac 20", and am guessing I've got a glitch in boot camp's windows audio drivers.
Normally, when you plug your headphones in, your audio signal is supposed to be routed to them and your internal speakers would be muted. On mine, however, only in XP, plugging in the headphones does indeed cause audio to come out of the headphones, but it does not mute the internal speakers. Basically, I can't stop the audio from coming out the internal speakers without muting everything.
I've gotten no help from Windows volume controls, and unlike on the Mac OS side, there isn't a separate volume setting when the headphones are unplugged.
Anybody see this besides me? Anybody find a solution that'll save me the time of waiting for a new audio driver?

no new drivers to download. However, the latest Firmware update at least auto-sets the internal speakers to a lower volume at startup (instead of full volume)

No audio playback from timeline in fcp x.

i have an issue with audio playback from the timeline. i can see it on the VU meter, but i can't hear it. i can hear it in the clip in the event library, but when i drop it to the timeline i hear nothing. i have changed settings in audio setup but nothing seems to work. i use a blackmagic intensity pro card to route audio to external speakers.
everything works as it should with all other software including fcp 6, itunes etc.
i also tried some headphones (after setting audio output to headphones) but still could not hear anything.
what am i doing wrong?

just tried one more time to re-route audio through line out and it worked!! so changed back to blackmagic card and VIOLA!! there it is.

ATV (Gen3) Newest updates severely distort audio playback from iTunes. Please Help!!!

I just updated my iTunes and ATV (Gen3) to the newest versions and immediately noticed severe distortion in audio playback from iTunes library. No hardware changes have been made and yesterday the sound quality was just fine. I have one running an optical cable into a high end receiver and another running off a HDMI cable into the TV with powered Speakers for output. I checked both systems on all inputs and it's only the Apple TV with the distortion. Someone please help as that is the only thing I really use on the device. iTunes version 12.0.1.26

Weird, I just opened iTunes to add some songs and now its playing fine.
Though I still can't figure out how to change the columns and having them stick to what I want .

Windows audio playback through headphones

For some reason, I am unable to isolate playback to headphones only while booted up in windows. when i boot to the mac os, no prob, but in windows, no matter what setting, the audio plays back through both the headphones and the speakers. Am I missing a setting somewhere? I have been all though the control panel and nadda.

This is a known issue with Boot Camp and currently there is no solution.

I can't get any audio playback from FCP X (or Premier Pro for that matter)â¦

When I playback a clip with audio it shows good level in the meters but I get no sound from any device (internal speakers, USB headphones, 3.5mm Headphones etc etc). If I render out a clip the audio is there and plays back in QuickTIme.app.
There are a few suspicious things like not being able to adjust the Master level slider in Sound Prefs, it's locked to Max position. I first became aware of this problem when I left After Effect and went to Premiere Pro to do an video comp that AE was choking on. PPro handled it well but no sound. Decided to try doing it in FCP X even though the interface is hard for me to 'get' striaght away I found stuff online about travel mattes but still no sound. Very frustrating I have a deadline — don't we all ;-)
Any ideas?

Audio Output from Mac Pro not working in XP

I'm trying to make the audio line output of the Mac Pro work in XP. the only sound comes from the motherboard or headphones in front of the computer.
Under audio devices say "realtech HD audio device" This is the Apple mac pro?
How do I turn the audio output on?

I think I resolved this! I had the same issues you have been having for a few months. I am actually running Vista. Here is what I did...
1. While booted to Windows I uninstalled boot camp
2. Re-installed boot camp from Leopard DVD
3. Installed boot camp update 2.1 (downloaded from Apple support, i know this is for XP only, but I updated anyway.)
4. Downloaded the realtek drivers (high definition audio codecs) from http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/
5. DO NOT use the Realtek installer to install the drivers...instead extract the contents to a folder.
6. Go to the device manager, locate the High Definition Audio device and updated the drivers from here (point to the folder where you extracted the drivers).
I now have sound out of the rear jack!! Hope this help someone

Audio Output from Multiple Sources not working

When I have more than one audio source open i.e. VLC + skype, skype + netflix, the later fails to produce any output -- even if the former is paused. I haven't done anything none standard with my configuration in this regard.

HP Probook 4540s no sound from Headphones or external speakers

I bought a HP Probook 4540s-Intel i5-3210 2.50 GHz, 6BG RAM, AMD Radeon HD 7650M 2GB DDR3 and an internal Intel HD Graphics 4000.Currently using Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit.The problem is that I installed the sound drivers from the HP site (IDT High-Definition aoudio CODEC) but the sound is only comming from the laptop speakers.Nothing happens when I plug in headphones or external speakers.Please help me because I have to use at least my headphones at work.

Please right click the speaker icon (bottom right corner), select Playback devices and enable the Headphones.

Selective Deletion from Infocube Only (Not from Aggregates)

Hi,
For the Selective Deletion, i used the FM 'RSDRD_SEL_DELETION' in program. But this FM deletes the data first from Infocube then from aggregate.Because of this, deletion took more time to delete and adjust the Aggregate.
I need an way in which i can delete the data from Infocube only and after i reach to my reconcile period then i will deactivate and actiavted the aggregate, so the data will be consistent in Infocube and aggregate.
is there any to Delete(Selective Deletion) the data only from the Infocube not from its aggregate (for the Performance Point of View)?

You can try manual selective deletion which will delete data from cube only. check out the below thread.

If you want to delete data from FM only, then try to deactivate your aggregates before you start your selective deletion.
Once deletion is done, you can reload the aggregates

MBP audio out from headphone jack is extremely low in volume

i just sent my macbook pro 13in (mid 2009 model) to the apple store (out of warranty). my problem was that the audio out from the headphone jack was very very low and staticky. the problem arose about 2-3wks ago. i've owned the laptop since june 2009. i've never dropped or damaged it (no water damage, etc)
my local apple store told me they had to replace logic board which seems extreme for what my problem is. i've read numerous forum posts saying that their computers came back with flickering "kernel panic"
has anyone else had a similar audio problem with their computer, and if so was it resolved in this manner?

I think you may be mistaken. the static coming from macbooks audio output port is as old a story as the macbook itself. IMO, epic fail on apple's part. I am debating complaining in a few months when I decide I deserve a better sound quality from a ridiculously overpriced laptop.

New Lenovo T430 Choppy Audio Playback of MP3s only in any program

Hello,
I am trying to troubleshoot a choppy audio playback problem with MP3 files on a Lenovo T430. The sound "skips" at regular internavls (about once a second). I have tried the following with no success:
1. Windows sound troubleshooter.
2. Playback through WMP 12.
3. Playback through VLC.
I was suprised to find the playback poor through VLC. Sound is fine when playing a youtube video. Any ideas on what next steps I can take would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Can you post the configuration of your T430? I've seen issues in similar systems configured with RAM amounts of 4GB or less and using a HDD and ExpressCache running Windows 8.

Audio playback from within a state machine without halting execution

I have created a state machine that acquires and analyzes an input signal and transitions states based on triggers detected within that signal. In one particular state I need to play back a prerecorded file (right now I am just using a .wav file for testing purposes). I understand that due to the data flow model the state machine hangs up during the playback state until the playback is finished, but I need to find someway around this. Obviously, whenever the machine hangs up it cannot continue acquiring and analyzing the signal. How can I start the playback from within the state machine without halting its execution?

Do you use the sound output VIs? If you do, try this. On the "Play Sound File VI" set the timeout value=0

I do not have audio playback on songs only on video

I just recently got a different computer at work and had to download itunes again. My music is in the cloud so that's not my problem. I am able to playback only videos and no songs. Whether they are in the cloud or downloaded doesn't make a difference. Any video I select will play but none of the songs I select will play. If I select a song to play the genius bar at the top just scrolls the diagonal lines across and the play button goes from play to pause. I can continue to hit the play button but nothing changes. There also is an exclamation mark that apprears next to the title of the song on the left side. I am not sure what that means. The audio is clearly working in all other programs and on the videos in itunes.

You can route the audio through your TV to your analogue receiver or purchase an adapter for the optical. As you have provided no further details it is hard to say much more.
