Audio playback speed too fast

Please help. After installing Security Update 2010-002 on Leopard 10.5.8 all audio tracks play several bpm faster. This is true for pre created tracks in Logic and playing tracks in Toast or using quick preview. All iTunes material is also affected. I also have a Snow Leopard partition which I haven't updated in any way and the problem exists there too. I'm using a late 2008 Macbook Pro. Any ideas? Best, L.

Without actually looking at your system, I'd be hard-pressed to pinpoint the culprit. I don't even have a hunch. I could be a conflict between some third-party application/plug-in/login item/ and something else.
The only thing I can suggest is this:
1. Move the Preferences folder from ~/Library/ (that is the Library folder in your home directory) to the Desktop.
2. Log out and log back in.
Your familiar working environment will likely look very different from what you're used to, since Mac OS will recreate the missing preferences and use the default settings.
Launch the applications that you experienced trouble with and test them out. Be prepared to reconfigure them, as they will likely launch in their default state. If everything works fine, you're going to have to add your old .plist files back one by one, logging out and back in each time.
You can speed up the process by batch-adding back the .plist files that you feel have little to do with the underlying problem. (For example, iPhoto or iWork .plists are the least likely candidates to cause any problems, etc.) You're going to make a few educated guesses and learn a great deal on the way.
I'm sorry I can't be more specific. Your problem is very unusual, and if I experienced it myself, I'd do exactly what I described above. At least, you were able to localize the problem to your user account.
A few pointers.
It's a good idea to keep the two Preferences folders open side by side, both set to List View. When moving your old preferences to the newly created Preferences folder, hold down the Option key (to copy them, rather than move). This will save you a great deal of time if you have to start all over again.
Cheers.

audio book plays too fast on the ipad - how do i fix it?

While I don't listen to audiobooks on myh iPad, the following might apply in your case:
When you navigate to the player controls in the iPod app, in older OS's, and perhaps still in the Music app in iOS 5, you will see a variable speed control on the right hand side of the scrubber bar. Sequential taps on that change the speeds.
This does appear in spoken content only, I think, as I see it in podcasts all the time. It's not there for video or music content, so I'd expect it to appear for Audiobooks as well.

  • Can't burn disc via iTunes. Burn speed too fast. AGAIN!

"iTunes can't burn this CD because the burn speed is too fast for your CD burner or media. Choose a lower speed in the burning pane of iTunes Preferences then try burning again".
I have been having on going problems burning CD’s in iTunes for YEARS, and I know I am not the only one. I get the error message above. Having checked the forum at the time, and posted for help, I am know there is no real solution except to change brand of disc.
Thing is, now I can’t get ANY brands to work. I’ve been through Verbatim, Maxell, JVC, Sony, but none work. The only brand that would work were TDK audios which I can no longer find anywhere.
I know its not the burner, as Toast works fine, and I know I am not alone. Anyone got any ideas?
Even after years Apple seem to be blanking this question. It’s very frustrating not being able to burn my purchased itunes downloads to disc.

To anyone who is interested I think I may have found a possible solution. When you put a blank disc in the drive, wait about 30-60 seconds or so for it to stop spinning before burning.
This seems to work. It's a bit sticky but eventually works. I tried both TDK & Maxwell discs and 9 out of 11 worked. Absolutely no reason why the other 2 didn't, but it's a lot better than none.

  • CD burner error: Burn Speed Too Fast

Whenever I try to burn a CD on my eMac an error message says
"iTunes can't burn this CD because the burn speed is too fast for your CD burner or media. Choose a lower speed in the burning pane of iTunes Preferences then try burning again".
It even says that when the burning speed is on x1. It says that on every speed. So does anyone know how I can fix this problem and make it be able to burn CDs? Is it because I have nearly 10,000 songs on my iTunes, so that is somehow making it slow down?
The blank disc I'm using is "High Quality Pure Silver CD-R 80 Tevion"
It has 700 megabytes (80 minutes) on it, and I want to burn a CD that is 60 minutes, exactly. So, help? Thanks.

Let me see if I can help you understand your delima.
Just because you buy a very expensive Media Brand, doesn't mean it is any good. There is such a wide range of quality in CD's and DVD's it is really hard to select what is considered to be the best.
A very good guide to use for Media in general for both CD, and DVD's is below.
    http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm
Next there are a couple of KEY points to remember when burning, these will help you.
Never have any other Applications open when burning.
I tend to use either CD-R or DVD-R Media, the reason is these 2 formats are the most widely used and recognized in all Players, and Computers alike.
Always choose the slowest speed to get a high quality burn.
This next suggestion is probably the most important.
Not all CD-R's and DVD-R's are the same
    Read the packaging carefully
Many will explain that they will burn at all speeds from 1X upwards
This will help insure that your burner Software will choose the correct speed.

  • A bug? Photoshop Action Playback is too fast after CS5-CS6 upgrade!! My action wont work

    On a PC
I upgraded from CS5 to CS6 (cloud) over the long weekend and I'm now faced with a massive headache. The process actions I use intensively for my work are all foxed by the simple problem that the action playback is going too fast for scripting over two documents to keep up. I have tried everything I can think of but the only thing that allows the action to progress sensibly (as in previous versions of the software) is the step-by-step playback mode. This is too slow to use on an ongoing basis.
The problem is caused by the following sequence
    Save as document (on desktop)
Open as document - open as Camera Raw - after settings open in Photoshop
    Select All
    Copy
    Close - saving no
    (PS automatically selects previous document)
++++ paste ++++ ERROR Paste command is not currently available
This is where Photoshop should select the previous/underlying document before applying the Paste command. Since the upgrade its been trying to paste the clipboard in the split second after closing and selecting the previous document, and reporting no document available at all. Slowing or pausing the playback with step by step or stop&continue works around the problem but causes workflow to slow down drastically.
Is there a way to script a pause during this one crucial moment? Or is there a preference setting I have overlooked that is casing the behaviour?

Save as - open as camera raw - select all- copy - close - paste. The dance is the ony way I can apply Camera Raw settings such as clarity, noise reduction etc to my retouch after the initial raw conversion. Its a well used technique that I've known about for years. Loads of people use this method in CS6, but for some reason I can'y get it to work after the upgrade.
The action is recorded in the regular record/play type action script. Its a big action and would take many hours to convert into javascript (even if I had the skills). I could possibly use the script recorder plugin but that rules out future tweaks without rewriting everything from scratch. app.refresh and $.sleep sound interesting though... is it possible to incorporate them into the basic action script?

  • Audio Playback Speed Control

    Hi,
I am working on Flex based Audio Player. I want to change the
playback speed like 50% of the normal speed or 150% of the normal
speed. I did some research on flash.media package but couldn't find
anything useful. Anybody has any idea how we can control the
    playback speed of mp3 files?
    TIA
    -Ghulam

I know the law, but thanks for the legal advice. Wouldn't it be curious to ask this question if I already possessed software that allowed keyboard commands for transcription purposes?
Right now, I'm using MPlayer X. ( A lousy, often unstable program). What appears to be keyboard command functionality  -- under AVS at the top of the screen -- does not function that way and,  even if it did function, is not fully what I need. I'll look further into VLC, but a preliminary look into it shows me a program more adapted for video applications. My experience has been that such software is not designed to meet my particular needs. The Adobe program is to EDIT audio. It is not designed to have the keyboard functionality one uses for transcription. This is exactly the problem I  keep running up against with several programs. I can do sophisticated sound editing, but I cannot do simple transcription functions -- keyboard commands to speed up, slow down, move back, move forward.  It is an incorrect assumption that an audio editing program would have those controls, in my experience.

  • Quicktime .mov... Audio plays way too fast.

    I have a Quicktime video http://www.plymouthbrethren.org/flash/MacDmemo2-2-320x240x30FPS.mov
which plays the Audio portion like Alvin and the Chipmunks. The original was created in Adobe Premiere Elements @ 29.xxx FPS, under Windows XP Pro. (It did the SAME thing, BTW, when I encoded it at 15 FPS.
I have no idea why the video appears OK on this, but the sound is all sped up.
Your help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks
    -Andrew

    Please help!
I have this same audio playback always sounds like Alvin & the chipmunks, even on TV episodes, songs I download or upload, but not in game play.
I've run the Windows troubleshooter, dxdiag, and searched for this on iTunes and Quicktime websites and manuals.
Does anyone have a clue what is wrong and what is needed?

  • Audio recording/playback plays too fast, faster than Video

: Whenever I record sound from my computer, whether it's from my mic or just sounds playing on the computer, the recorded file always plays the audio faster than the video. I've checked the drivers and re-installed several times, even reformatted and it's still the same thing. I even played around with the hardware acceleration meter with trial and error and it end's up always the same.
    What could be the problem?

Try turning off automatic exposure in the settings. And adjust some of the other settings (gamma, brightness, exposure) until you get a picture which you're happy with. And try that. In the UK, films are made at 24fps (frames per second) PAL format, and in America it's 30fps NTSC format. So yes, 30fps is as good as it gets! It's as good as TV and better than a lot of other webcams.

  • Change audio playback speed while transmitting via RTP

    Hi,
Basically I want to be able to change the speed/tempo of audio in real time (like you can on a turntable, for example) from a file stored locally. My program currently plays the audio on the local machine and transmits this same audio via a live RTP stream. I intend to include a slider on the GUI that changes the speed of the audio (like can be found on a turntable or DJing programs).
I am unsure if this would be possible, or how I would go about doing it. So far, I have found out the following:
The setRate() method of a Player should do what I want but it doesn't always work (the rate 1.0 is only required to be supported). I only require my program to work with WAV files, and setRate() only seems to support a rate of 1.0 with this file type.
One way of changing the speed is to change the sample rate (I don't care about pitch changes), but I don't think this can be done in real time with JMF. It is possible using a SourceDataLine or TargetDataLine with JavaSound; however, I believe I would firstly need to write code to feed data from a SourceDataLine to a TargetDataLine that an AudioInputStream can read from (as I don't think many systems, including mine, have a Mixer with both a SourceDataLine and TargetDataLine). If I did this, would I then need to do some processing to convert the sample rate of this AudioInputStream into the sample rate of the DataSources that are currently playing or transmitting data (I have a custom DataSource to go from AIS to DS, and so the read() method in this would possibly have to 'throw away' or duplicate samples to get the desired sample rate)? Would this solution be possible, or would there be a better solution?
    Thanks

I have previously tried getting a FrameRateControl for a Player and a Processor, and I have just tried again, but the getControl() method always returns null. I have tried this with several WAV files. Is there any other way to change the sample rate in real time with JMF?
For Java Sound, I already have code that lets me convert from DS to AIS and from AIS to DS. The problem is that I am unsure how to increase the sample rate in real time without using a SDL or TDL. But I think, if the AIS is reading from a file, the DataSource would have to read faster, or slower, from the AIS, and then do something with the samples to match the actual sample rate being used by the Processor in JMF. I am not sure whether this is anywhere near the right approach though, and I'm not sure how I could get the effect of changing the speed of audio without changing the sample rate of the Processor.

  • Wma audio book plays too fast

I downloaded an audio book from the library, changed the speed to podcast, and the book still plays fast on my phone. It plays normal speed in itunes.

I have the same problem with an iPhone 4 OS version 5.1.1
Following advice on another site I restored the factory setting, re-loaded everythin and STILL the audio books purchased from iTunes play at high speed.
On my iPod touch the audio books play at the correct speed
On the computer using iTunes they also play at the correct speed.
Until there is a solution for thisissue  I will not be buying any more audio books from iTunes.
I hope that the good people at Apple support can give advice.

  • Playback speed is 'fast'?

When playing a PAL captured sequence, it is playing at what appears to be 'fast forward' speed in the Viewer.
I can't get it to play at normal speed!
    Any ideas?

Do you mean you've opened a sequence into the viewer, or do you mean a clip, or do you mean the sequence in the canvas? If it's a clip, what exactly does item properties think it is. Same for a sequence if that's he problem.

  • Audio playback speed/scrubbing without affecting pitch

I have had this issue forever and have never found a workaround. In Final Cut Pro 7 you can use the JKL keys to toggle play forward, pause, and reverse. If you hit it several times it increases or decreases the speed. What I really enjoyed (probably the only thing in FCP 7 that I did like) was when you would fast forward at 2 or 4x speed the pitch of your file would not change. You would get some stuttering at higher speeds, but honestly I'm ok with that. In Audition and Premiere Pro if you fast forward the pitch increases. Gives you that chipmunk effect. Is there any setting, keypress, or any workaround that would enable me to fast forward while retaining pitch?
I edit voices and I listen for key words or phrases said by specific people so when the pitch changes it can difficult to actually find the correct spot. Any help would be much appreciated.

In Premiere once you're playing the clip in double speed you can press SHIFT J to pitch down. It's key stroke heavy and annoying for anyone that needs to scrubb at high speed, I edit documentaries so do it often, but it works. Not sure if the same is true for Audition.
Let me know if you find something better.

  • Audio books play too fast on I pad

The audiobooks on my new I pad mini have started playing in double and triple time.  Ive tried pressing sleep and home which worked once but doesn't fix it now.  Any ideas.?

  • WebCam Live! Pro: Video Playback Plays Too Fast...

I recorded a few clips for about 0 to 5 seconds each. When i playback on different players, PowerDVD, DivX Player, Windows Media Player and even the WebCam Center's own player, the video plays like its fastforwarding, and it says that the video is only 2 to 3 seconds long. The recording
    format is:
    Colour Space/Compression: RGB24
    Output Size : 640 x 480
    Frame Rate : 30fps
Compression Control : All the way to Better Quality
And also what does the 30fps mean? Does it mean smooth video like those on television? Or, 30fps in WebCam terms, means better and smoother video over other WebCams?

Try turning off automatic exposure in the settings. And adjust some of the other settings (gamma, brightness, exposure) until you get a picture which you're happy with. And try that. In the UK, films are made at 24fps (frames per second) PAL format, and in America it's 30fps NTSC format. So yes, 30fps is as good as it gets! • K72NG-ILSR media plays too fast / garbled sound

Using both Windows Media Player and Winamp. Both video and audio playback is too fast in both programs. The video skips frames and the audio skips and sounds garbled. However, when I play sound through Windows Sound Recorder, it is OK. Playback is also OK using WinDVD player. I was directed by MSI support to download the latest group of drivers, entitled "Nvidia nForce2 System Driver" at http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/driver/dvr/spt_dvr_list.php?part=1 . Will one of you guys with a similar setup please go to Device Manager and tell me what version of audio driver & Codec driver is the latest for the onboard sound? I'm not sure this is the problem, but it is a good place to start.
Any other suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks!
    Mike

Sorry about this, I saw later in your signature you are running Windows 98.I tried to edit my reply, but to no avail. For some reason, I can't edit. The boards will not let me.Anyway, try to remove Winamp anyway and see what happens with the Media Player.By any chance you have Windows Media 9?
