Audio Popping over HDMI with R9 285 Gaming

Definitely pulling my hair out trying to solve this!
I have an MSI R9 285 plugged into a ASrock X99 Extreme4 mobo and running CCC Beta drivers and Win7 64bit. I've got an Onkyo 5.1 AV receiver which the HDMI out of the card is plugged into. Whenever I play music or watch something I hear popping on the audio. This doesn't happen when I use the onboard soundcard of the mobo when listening via headphones. I have tried a different HDMI cable, tried re-installing the graphics and the bundled audio drivers, tried not allowing applications exclusive priority of the AMD High def audio device, tried different bitrates etc and every time I still get that faint popping. The card is running at stock speed with no kind of overclock. Any idea what the problem might be? The card is only a few months old. Many thanks for any help!

When you say popping is it a constant popping while it's playing? Or just when you first start playing something?
What is displayed on you AV Receiver? What model is it?

  • G62-a50sf : (only) audio out over HDMI?

We have a G62-a50sf notebook at my gf's place that we'd like to use as the source for a (somewhat) audiophile audio set-up.  One possibility to get better-than-headphone-output into a good receiver AND avoid using a separate DAC would be to feed the digital audio output over HDMI to the receiver.
The question I'm hoping to get an answer to is: will this be possible while retaining video output on the laptop's own screen?
    thanks in advance,
    René

Sorry, but your Mac doesn't send sound over HDMI, only mid-2010 and later MBP's send sound (and even then some require different adapters).  Yours is a 2009 MBP, so only video will go over the HDMI cable.  You will need to run audio from the audio out to your TV or digital audio out from your optical audio out to your receiver.

  • Mac Mini Audio Intermittent over HDMI, Cuts out with Assertion in kernel.log

Hello. I've been having trouble with a mac mini (Mid 2011) that I bought on Thursday. It's running OSX 10.7. The Mac Mini is the $599 unit.
I've got it hooked up to my Sony BRAVIA HDTV (also this year's model) via HDMI, with audio configured to be delivered via HDMI to the TV alongside video. Initially the audio will play through my TV, but after an hour or two of watching something, it will cut out, and there will be no more sound coming out of the TV from the mac. Ultimately, the only way I can fix it is to reboot the Mac Mini. I've also observed that at about the same time sound cuts out, the following error message appears in kernel.log:
Aug 12 19:21:40 joshs-Mac-mini kernel[0]: Sound assertion "0 != result" failed in AppleHDAWidget at line 3957 goto handler
    Aug 12 19:22:10 --- last message repeated 5 times
As far as I know, assertions failures usually mean software problems (bugs). I suspect I may be encountering a kernel-level bug in Lion, as this error message is showing in kernel.log.
The following is a list of diagnostic steps I've taken:
    - I've double-checked the sound output device in preferences. It didn't spontaneously change from SONY TV (HDMI) after sound cut out.
    - I've tried changing output to the internal speakers. It plays sound from the mac mini (as expected). When I change it back to HDMI, still no sound from the TV.
    - I've tried turning off and back on the tv. No effect.
    - I've tried unplugging and replugging the HDMI cable. No effect.
    - I've tried replacing the HDMI cable with two other alternates. No effect.
    - I've tried other HDMI inputs for my TV with HDMI attached. No effect.
    - Note: I've got a ps3 and xbox360 on the TV that has successfully used the HDMI inputs and cables tested on. They've never had this type of problem, so I don't think there's a problem with the TV.
    - I've tried rebooting the mac and resetting the "PRAM" (Command-Option-P-R before the grey screen on bootup). Sound still cuts out after a while.
    - All updates are applied.
Does anybody else have any ideas about what I could try to fix this? This problem is pretty much a deal breaker, as rebooting the mac mini mid-movie kind of destroys the movie-watching experience.
    Thanks

I'd just like to jump in on this thread to report exactly the same problem.
2011 Mac Mini (the 2.5GHz i5 model) running Lion, Sony Bravia TV, HDMI sounds cuts out after a while with the console error "Aug 15 18:30:25 Mini kernel[0]: Sound assertion "0 != result" failed in AppleHDAWidget at line 3957 goto handler".
Interestingly, after the error occurs, I can still get 5.1 sound through Plex, but not through Quicktime. 2.0 sound and system sounds all fail until I reboot the system.
Any help would be appreciated. I would prefer not to have to return the Mini.
    Thanks.

  • Why doesn't the MBPr support 2560x1440 over HDMI with OSX when Windows7 (bootcamp) supports it just fine?

I purchased a 2013 MBPr 15" (the first Mac I've ever owned btw) and so far have enjoyed the experience. I purchased a large 27" high resolution 2560x1440 non-Apple display which I planned on using HDMI output for, since HDMI has no problem supporting this resolution. After receiving this display yesterday I came to the sad realization that OSX does not support 2560x1440 over HDMI. However, under further investigation I found that Windows7 in Bootcamp on the same machine will beautifully display the full 2560x1440 over HDMI.
This means that OSX is the problem, and not the MBPr since Windows7 displayed the full resolution with no issue. If the hardware can support it, why would Apple disable it in the software? Is this just their way of forcing people to use DisplayPort? Or is there hope for them fixing this in future versions?

OK.  No reason to be playing games here.  Just surprised that this issue hasn't been brought up here on the community boards as well.  Here's the simple solution

After reaching a Level III technician in Belkin customer support today and having spent approximately 4-5 person hours on this issue, we figured out that the Sound/Output preferences in the Apple System Preferences should not be set to "Internal Speakers"  but rather set to "USB PnP Sound Device".
Worked like a charm.  Simple, elegant solution to a real problem, one likely to be encountered by 90% of the people who buy a Belkin Thunderbid Express Dock off the shelves of any Apple Store to use with a current generation Apple laptop or desktop computer.
But the Level III Belkin technician admmtted that this critical little piece of simple, straightforward information should have been readily available to their Level 1 techies who began helping me 5 person hours ago.  Would even have saved Balkin loads of customer service support time.
    And so the saga ends
Belkin owes me for helping them learn this precious lesson.

  • Audio prioritization over Video with webcams

Apparently FMS automatically prioritizes audio over video in
a webcam conversation. In my experience this doesn't really happen.
In my app, possibly due to bandwidth limitations, webcam stream
runs with a delay of a few seconds (starts ok, but the delay grows
as the conversation continues). When the delay happens, audio is
synced with the webcam stream. I can live with seeing a video delay
of a few seconds (or lower quality or even totally interrupted),
but I certainly don't want that to happen to the audio.
Is there something that I need to do for FMS to limit the
video stream in favour of keeping audio as close to "live" as
possible. Right now, video lags and audio is always synced with it.

I hear what Daniel is saying. FMS_Developer this is great
feedback, but can you or can anyone else in the community or at
Adobe that can help define the FMS configuration and AS elements
that need to be tweaked (read as "set") to help FMS developers
quickly get past what should be a simple set up in their app rather
than a science project or a guessing game?
(e.g. Here are the items to consider - Network (User
(Bandwidth) to Server to (Bandwidth)Users) and based on these
connections if are you trying to achieve near real time audio /
video communication there is a balance between video / audio
quality, the number of connections and the amount of dropped

NetStream.setBufferTime() on the Client and the Server 2)
    Client.setBandwidthLimit( ), NetStream.currentFps, etc. The
NetStream.setBufferTime() is important helps you to … )
I found the same thing as Dan – I cannot find the FMS
configuration and AS elements that need to be tweaked spelled out
anywhere in a single spot towards easily understanding how to
proceed with audio / video chat apps.
Can anyone in the community or at Adobe that can help define
the FMS configuration and AS elements that need to be tweaked (read

  • Audio "popping" when prepared with f4fpackager

When I prepare a file for HDS using Adobe's f4fpackager tool I experience "popping" in the audio. It seems to be related to the fragment size, smaller size more often, but doesn't nessicary happen once per fragment.
I have tried multiple encoding options to address this. I am using h264/aac with keyframes every 24 frames and a framerate of 24 and doing "--keyframe-intervals-per-fragment 20 --frames-per-keyframe-interval 24 --frame-rate 24" on the packager
I also tried running Adobe's "sample2_1000kbps.f4v" file from the webroot/vod through the packager and playing it back using their integrated player (/webroot/index.html) and experience the same issue. I did this using the packager's default settings.
    This is single bitrate streaming.
Is anyone else experiencing this issue or have any ideas of what I could try?
    Thanks,
    Ed

    Hi Ed,
The audio popping was an issue with FMS, precisely when content was fragmented using JIT which is fixed in FMS 4.5.2. I am not sure you should be seeing this when fragmenting through the f4fpackager.
Can you please send me the URL that you are using to access the Adobe sample video - sample2_1000kbps.f4v ?
Also, please update your FMS to the latest 4.5.2 from here:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/flashmediaserver/downloads_updaters.html
And let me know if you are still facing the issue.
    Thanks!

Even after I render and do a audio mixdown, I occassionally get audio pops or drop-outs (one channel or completely) of audio files to which I've applied the AU bandpass filter. Is there a way to solve this?

Make shure you sample rates and buffer sizes match. Check AMS or Sound in pref.> after application launch, sometimes it will flip automatically. Master then Slave i think > you might need more usb power

  • Can you record a video camera output over HDMI with the HDMI thunderbolt adapter on a Macbook Pro

I have an interesting question.  I do video editing, and I know there are some new devices on the market, such as the black magic mini recorder that lets you go from HDMI to Thunerbolt.  But can you not do the same with the minidisplay/thunderbolt to hdmi adapter, allowing you to record the uncompressed HDMI signal?

The answer to this question does not exist on the internet.

  • REALTEK AUDIO DEGRADING OVER TIME WITH FLME - PC WINDOWS 7

I am having a real issue with the onboard Reatek audio card and The Flash Live Media Encoder. I am providing the signal to the onboard Realtk audio card via the mic in source on my computer. The video is coming from my DV cam. At first, the audio sounds fine but after a period of time, the audio begins to degrade until it becomes totally useless - muffled and weak. If I use the onboard DV mic, it's OK. Problem seems to be with the onboard Realtek card. Some times it appears to be related to making some changes in the FLME settings. If I reboot the computer, it fixes it for  a while and then the problem starts again. Running a PC with Windows 7. Anyone else, experiencing this? I have had the same problem on two different machines.

There is no way to do it from windows direct to the TC.
It only presents AFP to the WAN side. And most ISP block SMB from internet access due to risks. There is AFAIK, no suitable AFP protocol utility for windows at the moment. If you google and find one, be aware it probably will not work to your satisfaction anyway.
You must use a Mac to access AFP but even then it is not a secure protocol and I would recommend against it anyway.
So basically if you had have asked before purchasing, I would have said, TC is unsuitable product. It is a backup drive for a Mac. It is not a NAS.. it is not designed for remote access by any computer other than a Mac. It does not support any other file protocol to the WAN interface.. and no secure protocol even there.
A NAS with Time Machine extensions from QNAP, Synology, Netgear all are designed for web access and are far more suitable. Researching a purchase beforehand is always worthwhile.
Anyway, your choices are.. return the TC and buy something more suited to the job.
Or if return is now impossible sell the TC on ebay.. etc and do the same thing.. buy a more suitable NAS.
Or buy a cheap mac mini (even second hand) and use that for communications with home.
Or, replace your current router with something that includes vpn. This is actually a good and commercially sound decision. VPN is generally used by business to connect to remote locations, because it is secure and will allow the greatest flexibility of connection. How hard or easy depends on the current setup. I would recommend a combined modem router with vpn server if you have adsl. Or for cable you can find plenty of routers with combined vpn. You can also use those for adsl if your ISP allows pppoe with bridged modem. The TC will have to be bridged as well. For other broadband it might be harder to find the right kind of box.
Once you setup a vpn you can access it from work using the appropiate vpn client in your work computer.

Ok, rc7 is out. Dave Airlie disabled HDMI Audio on rv710,rv730.
    Dave Airlie (9):
drm/radeon/kms: fix incorrect logic in DP vs eDP connector checking.
drm/radeon/kms: use active device to pick connector for encoder
drm/kms/radeon: pick digitial encoders smarter. (v3)
          drm/radeon/kms: release agp on error.
drm/radeon/kms: move radeon KMS on/off switch out of staging.
drm/radeon/kms: disable HDMI audio for now on rv710/rv730
drm/radeon/kms: make initial state of load detect property correct.
drm/radeon/kms: rs400/480 MC setup is different than r300.
drm/radeon/kms: fix r300 vram width calculations
EDIT: Further more, Jerome Glisse talked about future radeon development [1]
Coming up in the Radeon DRM for the Linux 2.6.34 kernel (or releases thereafter) is support for un-mappable VRAM, support for Evergreen GPUs (Radeon HD 5000 "R800" series), use of the Linux power management API for better suspend-and-resume support, better DRM power management, HDMI audio for R700/800 graphics processors, and improved GPU lock-up recording.
Therefore, Audio over HDMI is expected for 2.6.34+!

  • No sound on HDMI with Windows 7 om Mac Mini 2010

    Hi,
i've installed bootcamp (windows 7 64 bit) on a new mac mini. When I turn on power an boot windows there's no sound over HDMI. The windows device manager says that everything is working properly.
Then I boot mac os and HDMI sound works fine in mac os. Then booting windows again HDMI sound is working in windows too. But when I turn of the mac and turn it on again booting windows sound is missing again.
Any suggestions? I updated to the latest nvidia hdmi audio driver without success.

Found a workaround: The problem is not the NVidia HDMI audio driver but the Microsoft HD audio driver / device. If you have no sound over HDMI with your Mac Mini you have to
    1) Find out the hardware ID of the Microsoft HD Audio Device:
    * windows device manager -> system devices -> High definition audio controller
    * right mouseclick -> device properties -> Details -> select HardwareID
    2) Use the devcon command line utility to disable and enable the device:
    devcon disable "HardwareID"
    devcon enable "HardwareID"
And you will have HDMI sound again.

  • Audio pops in PPRO CC 2014

I am getting PAINFUL audio pop in Ppro with MP3 audio tracks. As I move the CTI, it will max out and blow my eardrums to pieces. Any idea as to what would cause this?
    -gl

I made a post about this a little over a year ago it looks like (Loud Pop On Moving of Playhead). I've found that adding a simple single-band compressor effect to all my audio prevents the popping. Only trouble is, any compression effect (apart from Multiband (Legacy)) makes Premiere crash when trying to queue a sequence to Media Encoder (though you can still drag and drop from one app to the other).
I guess all we can do is keep filing bug reports.

  • Connecting 2560x1440 screen to a U410 over HDMI

Hi, Im a new owner of U410 IdeaPad.
I bought this machine with the intention to hook it up to a WQHD  (2560x1440) screen.
The screen I intend to get has no limitation on being fed over HDMI with this resolution (supports 1.4 HDMI).
What I have found out is that I might have a problem with the machine not supporting this resolution over HDMI.
My question is whether U410 with its dedicated Nvidia 610M (in addition to HD4000) sitting on Intels HM77 chipset will allow me to output WQHD resolution over the HDMI, or at least wether this HDMI connection is of 1.4 version.
    Thank you very much.

    Thanks for the reply
can you reference me to the source/s which confirm the 1.4 support (I'm a bit uptight about it since I am going to order the screen online without the option to return so I don't want to find myself owning a 27" HD-TV instead of a WQHD screen).
There is apparently an issue with HDMI and above 1080 resolutions, a few manufacturers (of both chipsets and monitors) made a bad assumption that HDMI = 1080p for the home user even though the interface can support more then that but they capped it at 1080.
    For example

Hi, my name is Diego im from Argentina, well i have a problem with my macmini 2010 unibody, i have set up the mini over hdmi in to my receiver ( yamaha 663 ) and hdmi out to my LCDTV, i set up in sound properties HDMI output ok all is fine but if i am listening music in itunes and turn off the tv the signal is off to receiver and the music sounds in the built in speaker of the mac mini, any idea to disable this speakers o built sound card ? i want to passtrough over hdmi with the TV off, thanks to all best regards, Diego.-

I still get daleks too from time to time if I try to use 1080i with Dolby Digital into a Sony Bravia.
The BT Vision box HDMI is known to be flaky, though it sounds like you've got an extreme example of the problem with the Tosh.
It's possible to improve things a bit by using an HDMI extender to recondition the signal before it enters the TV. It might be worth a try. Try http://www.hdcable.co.uk/
