Audio Problem: Skype audio comes through external ...

I recently upgraded my computer to Mac OS X Yosemite 10.10.3 and Skype to Version 7.8.
I used to use Skype with my Logitech H800 headset with no problems. However after the upgrade, the speaker audio is now forced through the external speakers instead of the headset. When I make a call, I hear the connecting sound effects through my headset, but when the call connects, the person's voice is coming through my external speakers.
Here is what my settings look like (see below). As you can see, the Skype settings are configured correctly.
I also tested my OS X Sound settings in the System Preferences. They are set to "Line Out" by default because I want to hear my music through my speakers, but want to take phone calls on my headset. Changing the system settings to the Logitech Wireless Headset is a temporary fix, however it is an extra manual step that has to be repeated with each phone call and when the call ends, I have to switch it back to Line Out. This used to be automatic feature, switching to the headset for an incoming or outgoing call.
Any suggestions on how to fix this issue and get Skype to automatically put calls through my headset? I worked with a Skype technician and she couldn't figure out why it was happening.
Thanks in advance for your input.

Never mind. Shortly after posting this issue, I discovered an article which describes the problem as a bug with the latest release. See here for the article:

  • Beats Audio problem making audio quality terrible

I have a dv7 notebook with beats audio, and earlier today I was watching a movie and stretched for something on my desktop an must have hit a button on the keyboard or something because all of the sudden the Beats Audio logo comes up and the sound quality changes, to what seemed like mono instead of stereo. Now all the sounds on YouTube videos, movies and so on is very crappy, for the lack of a better word. It seems like it peeks and makes it all muffled very easily and it is very annoying. I found that the fn+b shortcut comes up, but it doesn't seem to do any difference. I tried restarting my computer and now Beats audio isn't even opening up, and I can't change settings in the beats audio control panel, and now when I change the volume, instead of the normal Beats Audio record icon coming up, it just shows a speaker. I guess that has something to do with beats not being on.
I really need help with this since I am unable to contact HP Costumer Support for some reason. The sound on my laptop is now awful and I need to know why Beats isn't starting up along with the computer anymore, and why, even when beats was working, it changed the audio. Please help me.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
    Try the following.
Download the IDT Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.
    http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp55001-55500/sp55094.exe
When done, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the IDT device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.
When complete, restart the notebook and let Windows fully load.  Open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, right click the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select Playback Devices.  Left click 'Speakers and Headphones' once to highlight it and then click the Set Default button.
    Has this made any difference?

  • T61 Audio Problems -weird audio control

I am sure I have done something to my system, but not sure what.  The system has audi output from Rhapsody music player, Windows Media Player, and DVD movie player.  The system DOES NOT have audio from within Windows Explorer.
The keyboard volume controls and mute work (physically).  The disply pops up on the screen but does not reflect volume increse, decrease or mute.  It never changes.  The speaker icon has also vanished from the bbottom right of the screen.
I have redownloaded the latest audio drivers for my system, redownloaded DirectX, the UAAHD files, keyboard drivers, Thinkvantage keyboard customer.  I have also tried a restore from previous backup.  No joy.  I tried setting audio properties in control panel to display the speaker icon.  It is selected, but never shows.
What am I missing?  I have college courses online that stream over the web that I cannot hear.  Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

    T61 with WINXP and SP3.
I have the exact same problem. The mute button works, but the volume does not. Further the computer beeps. No wav files, etc. It worked yesterday. It might be intermitten. I did recently perform a clean install. It has been acting wonky since. If I reinstall the microsoft drivers (kb888111xp2en.exe) and then the lenovo drivers (soundmax) it starts working.
I even changed the registry setting to trick the microsoft driver that SP2 was installed because once SP3 is installed, the microsoft driver will not install).
I checked the regstry entry described below and it exists and is correct. Also, the desired file msacm32.drv) is in the win/system32 folder.
    Any help is appreciated!

  • Audigy 2 Value and SPDIF in audio problems

I have an Audigy 2 Value card and a Sony HD6600DP Home Theater System w/ Sony DVP-NC665P dvd player. I also just received my digital I/O module(4 week back order). I have the dvd player audio out to the dvd audio in on the amp. (rca digital in). Next, optical out (the only digital out on the amp is the MD/TAPE connection) to the SPDIF IN optical on the module. Then, in Creative Audio Console I have these options enabled/checked:
    Decoder- SPDIF Passthrough
SPDIF - Digital Output - 48khz, SPDIF - is turned off and set to default
Bit Accurate - On this tab, I have both options turned off presently. In the center of the box shows the current SPDIF In signal. Trying to play dvd audio disc or dvd movie shows unknown or invalid signal. Playing an audio cd through the dvd player shows the 6bit 44.khz audio(also that sound comes through).
    Speakers - 5.
EAX and CMSS are turned off.
As stated earlier, I do get cd audio from the dvd player and the SPDIF connection, but no dvd audio comes throught the same connection. Also, I can get a 48khz audio signal out to the amp, but no AC-3 or other digital surround out. I guess my question is with the Audigy 2 Value, can I have a digital audio signal coming in via the SPDIF

well for giggles i took my card out and used the onboard sound to see it there was any difference.
the onboard is AC97 realtek. the shotgun and quake4 sounds were much better. all the sounds were there but of course it did not sound as rich as audigy does.
so my experiment showed that it is a driver problem. i am guessing no one else has had this problem.

  • 10.4.9 - Major audio problems with digital audio

I have a Digital XMPCR radio with Edirol MA-20D Digital speakers
I now have major audio problems, the audio is garbled and doesn't sound as strong. Kinda like a FM radio in a car that is loosing signal when you are traveling.
I use this XMPCR for a couple of hours a day and had no problems this morning prior to installing the update.
I have a XMPCR that was modified for Toslink/Digital connection. I connect the XMPCR to my Mac Pro 2.66 with toslink cables and connect my Edirol MA-20D digital speakers with toslink cables. I use Amoeba's "LineIn" for audio pass through.
I thought it might me the FTDIUSBSerialDriver so I reinstalled it, did not fix the problem.
I also have a real bad "buzzing" sound going on in the background. When I quit JXM (the application for changing channels on the XMPCR), the "buzzing" goes away but I have a rapid ticking sound coming out of the speakers until I quit LineIn.
Anyone else have any problems with their digital audio input/outputs?

I dont use the digital XMPCR radio, but I use Digital Performer to record audio and MIDI and I use exclusively the Built-In Audio input and Output and everything is working fine after the 10.4.9 Upgrade.

  • Skype audio through external interface

I'm currently running sound through an external audio interface (M-Audio Profire 2626). Before, everything was fine, but at the moment, Skype seems to be sending signal only to the left channel of the interface. All chat sounds, rings, and alerts are audible in the left channel only, but in a call, the other party comes through both speakers. So it's only alerts in the one speaker.
    What's happening here?

When it was working, what was different?  Was there a specific version of Skype that it was more compatible with?  Since it doesn't occur on other devices (as far as I'm able to test since I own no Firewire output devices) I can only assume the issue is driver/software related or a compatiblity issue over Firewire but I would really suspect translation software that's being used to get it work in Skype unless the drivers are native WDM-based (vs something like ASIO).  If you have other firewire ports you've never used you can always try those to see if the install of that device on that specific port changes anything.

  • I have the earliest version iPad (updated running system) I am trying to use my earbuds. How do I turn off the external audio so the sound only comes through the earbuds?

I am trying to use earbuds with my iPad Earliest version with updated running system. How do I get the sound to only come through the esrbuds and not be audible to everyone around me? Thanks!

    That's strange.
You should inky be getting audio from the headphones.
Make sure that they are plugged in all the way.
If they aren't, you will get both audio.
Turn up the volume on your ipad with the buttons.
where it shows the bell, it should say Headphones.

  • Skype Audio Headphone Problem

So I use headphones on my laptop for just about everything. I am able to make Skype call audio go through my headphones but it makes all of my other audio (music, netflix, youtube, etc...) go through the laptop speakers. I have tried for about a week now to get both the audio from my Skype calls and my music to be played through my headphones, but I have been unable to make any progress whatsoever. My friend that I am usually Skyping with has it setup so that he can listen to music and our skype call all through his headphones, so I know it is possible. I just can't figure out how to achieve these settings for the life of me. Any help is greatly appreciated because Skype has been absolutely no help to me

I have no doubt you either have an HP computer or another brand computer with the IDT chipset.   Whatever setting that gets it to work will not make any sense.  Here's an example of a person who resolved the problem on his computer:

  • Problems recording audio through garageband

Hello Mac world, I'm completely new to the Mac computers, and just purchased my MacBook Pro with a 2.3 ghz quad-core i7 processor, 16 GB of RAM, and 512 GB SSD, so I don't think specs are the problem to my issue. I purchased the Mac to record audio, and also purchased an audio interface to record through (Focusrite Scarlett 2i2). I have downloaded the most recent drivers for that. I connected my guitar through the instrument input, connected the interface through USB, and connected headphones into the headphone jack. I can hear the audio playback while I play through the headphones, but my problem relates to the actual recording process, as well as the audio playback.
When recording, I get the following error: "Error while trying to synchronize Audio and MIDI - Sample rate 41068 recognized. Check conflict between GarageBand and external device". I read that GarageBand requires a sample rate of 41000, but I don't know how to check/change that. I also can't hear the metronome or the count in while I play/record. My input source is Mono 1 (Scarlett 2i2 USB), instead of Stereo (Scarlett 2i2 USB) in both my GarageBand preferences and my System Preferences.
Next, I have a problem hearing the audio playback after recording. Again, I can hear the guitar while I play, but not after I record. Also, like I mentioned above, I can't hear any metronome or count in.
I also successfully recorded using a MIDI controller when connecting directly from the controller to computer using USB. Again, I don't think that my system specs are an issue, but I am completely new to the Mac side of things, and am not sure where I am going wrong with this.
Does anyone have any clues as to what the issue may be? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!
    Adam

WO HOO I answered my own question.
I found this little gem of a tutorial:

  • Audio problems using external mic

    Hi,
I'm having problems hearing audio that was recorded using an external mic - both wireless and wired handhelds.
I can hear the audio through the camera (Canon GL2 dv)
but not during importing into IMovie HD 5.02.
After import I still can't hear audio. All volumes are up and on and boxes are checked. Is there an audio patch?
    Please help!

    Hi Sue,
No that didn't solve the problem either.
It seems to be a problem with IMovie.
You can hear the audio using Final Cut Pro.

  • Audio input through external microphone not 'heard' by computer

I can record audio with any app through the builtin mic.  And I know the system 'hears' sound through the builtin mic when I go to SystemPreferences->Sound->Input.
I have an external microphone that I want to record through.  I went to SystemPreferences->Sound->Input and chose 'Line In' and plugged in the microphone's lead into the 'in' jack.  However the SystemPreferences->Sound->Input Input Level sensor/detector is dead -- it shows no audio input.  Nor does iMovie pick up any audio input when the mic is plugged in.
I know the input jack works by plugging in the output pin from a cassette-player, choosing 'Line In', and playing a cassette.  The Input Level sensor/detector comes on and the sound is available to apps.
I know the external microphone works by plugging it into the cassette-player and recording from it and tapping and rubbing on its pick-up.  The sounds are captured on cassette tape.
So why is audio input through external microphone not 'heard' by the computer?  Is there some trick to making it work?

There are a few possibilities, but the most likely is that your microphone does not produce enough signal to be "heard" through the Mac line input. Usually this is normal, with most microphones producing perhaps 1/100th of the signal needed, which would be called "mic level".
You cassette deck probably outputs "line level", much stronger and strong enough to register in the Mac Line input. Similarly, the cassette deck microphone input is probably "mic level" and much more sensitive than the Mac line input.
There are other possibilities, such as a powered microphone, but you have not provided any model numbers or specifications to analyze.
Try this: plug in the microphone like you did before, and make a really loud sound right in front of the mike, like clapping hands. You may see or hear a faint sound register on the Mac.
The usual cure is to buy a microphone preamplifer. You can also buy a new microphone with a built-in preamplifier. You can also buy a USB microphone or preamplifier device that bypasses the analog Line input entirely.

hi I am attempting to use a Zed R-16 with Logic Pro 9,  how can I setup a bounce for output 17-18  this is where the mixer sums (the audio outputs on the zed come through 17-18)
I would like to be able to quickly bounce down my mixes,  through the Zed outputs.

    Pancenter...
Yes... but I have come across some setups that came with a native SL (and even one Lion!) installation.. that somehow had a corrupted or older Prokit installed for some unknown reason... and given it's a quick fix to try.. I thought I'd mention it..
I frankly don't think it is entirely a Prokit issue itself, but it wouldn't do any harm to try and install v7 just in case it is part of the problem...
    +1 on the UAD stuff....
Also, at the time it crashed... according to the logs...the OP was running Ableton Live at the same time, presumably rewired with Logic... so add all that together with UAD plugins... and that's quite a load on the system...
Finally in thread 32 there is a weird exception msg relating to the Trash2 plugin.. that I haven't seen before...
    Thread 32:

    4   libSystem.B.dylib

That might be nothing... but as i said, I haven't seen that one before and given what else is going on.. it might be involved too... or nothing to do with that at all!
