Audio problems sharing iphoto slideshow with iDVD

I have created a slideshow of 200 photos and 4 random tracks from itunes.
It plays fine in iphoto. When I share it with iDVD and a .mov file is created only the first Track of audio plays both in preview and from a disk image. The rest is silence. The slideshow is set to match the display time to the total audio and this remains the same. I've tried removing the encoding and the itunes helper plist. Any other thoughts?

If you have Garage Band - make one track with the four songs/tracks and save in iTunes and use that track for iPhoto - just did that and worked great -

  • Problem sharing iPhoto slideshow to iDVD

    Hi,
I'm using iPhoto 11 and have made a themed slideshow with music. There seems to be changes in the theme being made when I "share" it to iDVD 7.1.2. Minor stuff but really annoying. Things like the a page of photos changing from the theme of vintage paper to black surrounds, and putting in a fake postcard image.
I have previously done the same slideshow to iDVD (minus about 5 photos) and it worked brilliantly.
I've closed down iPhoto, restarted the computer and "shared" it to iDVD about 5 times and the same thing happens.
This is for my mother's funeral in a couple of days and I want it to be perfect.
Does anyone have an idea of what the problem is or a workaround?
    thanks
    Carol

Try exporting the movie to the Desktop at the large size
and check the slideshow to see if it keeps the correct theme.  If it does you then open iDVD, select a theme and add the movie to the menu being careful to avoid any drop zones.
Follow this workflow to help ensure the best quality final product:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the  File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option.  This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • Sharing iphoto slideshows to idvd

recently reinstalled ilife (iphoto suddenly disappeared!)
when sharing a slideshow created on iphoto to idvd, it transfers as a quicktime movie (do not want it to be a quicktime movie) is there a setting i can change?

If you want to have a slideshow in iDVD with only the still photos from iPhoto then select just the album of photos and use the Share->Send to iDVD menu. This will open iDVD, create a slideshow in it and import the album of photos from iPhoto. j
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Sharing iPhoto slideshow using iDVD

After spending a painstaking amount of time, getting everything just perfect in my iPhoto slideshow, then using Sharing to export to iDVD, my sound and slideshow no longer line up.The slideshow now ends and the song gets cut off. I have even tried adding extra time to my slideshow and make other adjustments, but having to export takes time and I need it to end up the way I made it. This is only a 57 image, one song (4:08 min), slideshow. It goes off without a hitch in iPhoto. I have adjusted every frame for effects (no prepackaged iPhoto stuff) and duration. Any help here would be appreciated.

Eventually, I want to integrate my .jpg pictures with music ( assume MP3) together to be seen and heard on a server. Is there a way I can accomlish this?
Have not tried to do that.
In iPhoto 6 there is a thing called Photocast. That might work. I don't use iPhoto, so I'm not much help there. You should visit the iPhoto 6 group.
but I can not create a successful DVD to distribute to famiy members. What am I doing wrong?
Apparently you are doing something wrong. I do that all the time.

Suddenly i can't export iPhoto slideshows to iDVD after upgrading to 10.8.2   I get the message "CouldNotCreateTmpDir"  What do i do to overcome this problem?  I've been making slideshows for ages using iPhoto and iDVD and it's suddenly stopped. Urgent help needed.

Are you saying that you cannot export a slideshow from iPhoto to the Desktop and then drag it from the Desktop (or the Movie frolder where it can be stored) into an open iDVD menu window?
Export the slideshow at the large or medium size:
They drag the movie file into the open iDVD window.  NOTE: do not move the movie file once it's been added to iDVD. That's why it should be placed in folder where you intend to keep it permanently or at least until the iDVD project is completed and burned to a disk image and then to disk.

  • Insert an iPhoto SlideShow into iDVD

I do not succeed in inserting a SlideShow from iPhoto into iDVD including audio and slide effects. Only pictures will be inserted. Even exporting the slideshow from iPhoto into a QuickTime movie is losing the audio and slide effects. Can anyone give some advice what's going wrong?
    Message was edited by: hherb

You cannot import an iPhoto Slideshow into iDVD and keep the audio and transition effects from iPhoto.
    See this: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8828619&#8828619
You need to create the slideshow directly in iDVD, and add the audio and transitions from withing iDVD.
Your transitions must be the same between the photos.
It is reported here that you can do this with Quick Time: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10356386&#10356386
Have a look at these threads, for using iPhoto and iMovie: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2299375&tstart=0

  • Will  an iPhoto slideshow with music work on all computers in China?

I am making a promotional DVD for an education program in the US, and taking it to China to education fairs. If it is an iPhoto slideshow with music, will it work on all Chinese computers? I assume so, because since it is not video, I should not have to worry about different formats-right? I've got enough to worry about on this trip!
    Prof. Fisher

On every single computer in China? Impossible to tell. But if you create a slideshow in iPhoto and send it to iDVD to be burned to a DVD then it will play on anything that plays DVD.

  • IPhoto Slideshows in iDVD?

Does anyone know if this is possible to import an iPhoto Slideshow into iDVD?

Yes you can do this 2 ways (that I know of)
    1) Open iPhoto
    2) Select the slideshow in the Source Pane
3a) From the File menu select Export. This will export it as a movie (to be imported from iMovie or iDVD.
3b) From the Share menu, Select Send to iDVD.
    Hope this helps.

  • IPhoto slideshow with descriptions?

How do I make an iPhoto slideshow with descriptions?

This helped along with changing how I was creating the slideshow. My original approach was the select "new slideshow" from the File Menu and then drag individual images to the slideshow folder. This is what didn't work for me.
I then tried selecting a bunch of images in an event then selected "new slideshow" from the File Menu, This resulted in a slideshow where I could shuffle the slide order in the image bar at the top. I don't know which step provided the solution, or whether it was the combination - I suspect the combination.
Thanks for your interest and help - much appreciated.

  • IPhoto Slideshow to iDVD - Audio problem

I created a slideshow in iPhoto and added music from iTunes. The slidewhow is about 40 minutes long and I set the length of the slideshow to match the music (about 10 songs). I shred the show from iPhoto to iDVD using the Share option. When I preview the slideshow in iDVD there is only 1 or 2 songs of audio depending on the time I shared it (I tried a few times). The slideshow keeps running, but with no audio. Any help is appreciated.
    - Derek

You can get the songs you rip from your CD to export into iTunes by the following:
    1. iTunes - Pref - Advanced - Import. Change import using to MP3.
Now all new songs you rip from CD will export with iPhoto
To correct those songs already in iTunes so they will export, do the following:
    1. highlight song in iTunes Library
    2. Toolbar go to Advanced - Click Convert Selection to MP3
3.Now you will have a duplicate of that song in your library. The one just added that you converted, add MP3 to title
4.Use MP3 song in your slide show.
    5. Audio should export with photos.

  • Sharing widescreen iPhoto slideshows to iDVD?

    Hello,
I am trying to determine the best balance between picture quality and ease of use in creating slideshows. I have tried creating 720p "movies" with photos in iMovie, but so far iDVD has crashed every time I tried to use these to make a DVD. I then tried creating a widescreen iPhoto slideshow, and "sharing" it to iDVD. It worked, but the quality was horrible AND the exported movie was cropped to standard format!
Does anyone have any feedback as to the best way to achieve high quality DVD slideshows? I would prefer to use Ken Burns effects if possible. I don't care how long it takes to encode, so two-pass is fine.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Here are two threads on creating slideshow bound for iDVD:

Personally I prefer to create the slideshow directly in iDVD from stills imported from iPhoto (after cropping to the recommended 4:3 ratio beforehand). It's my opinion and experience that I get the best image quality that way. iDVD also lets you have titles or subtitles on slides. The titles that you put on in iPhoto get cut off once imported into iDVD as a QT movie.
Also, creating the slideshow in iDVD gives you a true slideshow, with forward and back buttons, if desired to be shown, and the user can use the forward and back buttons on the DVD remote to activate them.
Since I'm not a fan of the Ken Burns effect I don't lose anything this way over going thru iPhoto. To each his own.

  • Iphoto slideshow to idvd....with snapshot effect

Please help....I am trying to transfer a slideshow in iphoto using the snapshot effect. My music is tied to this slideshow. When transferring to idvd, the music doesn't sync and the snapshot effect is gone. It looks like a half-hearted dvd. How can I successfully export the iphoto slideshow to the dvd?
This has been a huge disappointment. I have done this in the past...but can't seem to do it. Is this an life09 issue?

    Hi julie mcguire
And welcome to apple discussions. Do you have more than 99 images on this slideshow? If so, try reducing the total number to 99 or less.
    Still no good?
Then drag and drop the plist for iDvd to the trash (quit the app first) followed by a full restart of your mac. The plist for iDvd is located in your preferences folder and looks like this:
    com.apple.iDvd.plist
If this still fails to resolve the issue, then do likewise for the iPhoto app. And if this is the case, then you may need to start from scratch again (sorry).
Good luck and feel free to post back.

  • IPhoto slideshow in iDVD project

I have some questions on problems creating a iDVD project of an iPhoto slideshow:
    1. Is it possible (how ?) to create buttons for scene selections, as in iMovie ?
My project contains one continuous slideshow (942 still pictures) which I want to divide in
chapters relating to the varuous trips I made during one travel.
If not in iDVD: has this breaking up of a single iPhoto slideshow be done in iMovie or iPhoto itself,
or by way of creating a 'Magic iDVD' ?
    2. Can audio be imported with different sound clips ?
As for now my audio clip (3 min) repeats itself endlessly till the end of the project (48 min), and I
want to use various songs out of my iTunes library.
    3. For a slideshow with its speed matched to the lenght of an audio clip, 10 seconds seems to be
the longest duration for one single picture. Can this be lengthened ?.
In my actual project, 10 seconds for each picture in combination with a cross dissolve seems
to work too fast in my slideshow.
I expected this transition to be added to their duration; instead it seems to take seconds away
    from the linked stills.
If all these problems can't be adressed in iDVD 6: is iDVD 8 the better option ?

To get the versatility that you want, and because this is a complex project for iPhoto, I suggest that you bring iMovie into the work flow.
I would create a separate iPhoto slideshow for each segment of your trip (eg. Italy, France, etc.)
Then export each slideshow to your desktop as a High Quality Quicktime movie. There will be no loss of quality. Then create an iMovie project, and drag each Quicktime movie into the project. You can add your audio in iMovie, as well as chapter markers. Then save and close, and drag the iMovie icon (the one with the star on it) into an iDVD project. Just drag it to the edge of the iDVD display menu so it doesn't fall into a drop zone. Then save your iDVD project as a Disk Image (an option from the File menu). This will take awhile because all the encoding will be done as if you were burning a disk. To play the disk image, double click on its icon, and then open the DVD Player app on your Mac. Make sure it plays O.K. Then close it, and open the Utilities/Disk Utility app on your Mac. If it's not already in there, drag your disk image icon into the left side display panel in the Disk Utility Window. Then insert a DVD-R disk into your drive and hit Burn. The burning process will be fairly quick because all the encoding already was done when you created the disk image.
As far as I am aware, you cannot extend the length of a photo in an iPhoto slideshow beyond what the settings will allow you to do. If you want to go beyond that, I would suggest creating your slideshow in iMovie where you can display the photos for as long a duration as you want. In my opinion, 10 seconds duration for a photo is way too long, particularly when you have 942 still pictures. Whew! I would keep it to 5 seconds at most. You can always use the remote pause button of your DVD player if you want to display to your viewers a particular photo for a longer time.
In an iPhoto slide show you can import different audio with different sound clips. Go to iTunes and make up an album of the songs that you want to play in your slide show. Then, when you select your music from the media pane in your iPhoto slide show, select the album that you created, and the slide show will play those songs in succession as your slide show runs.
The cross dissolve transition will shorten the display duration of the photo on each side of it, and thus shorten the overall display time of the slideshow. The overlap transition will not shorten the overall time display.
I hope this helps. Good luck with your project/.
