Audio problums with apple tv

I use Radium to play my sirusxm radio air play will not work on apple tv, it worked befor I did the update on Sept 21 2013

I would first check the audio settings on your TV, with the optical cable as the last resort.

Afraid not - AppleTV does not support USB audio devices.
I assume you don't mean using the device as an optical input for the computer, connecting AppleTV's optical out to it.

  • Audio dropouts with Apple TV 2

I bought an Apple TV 2 yesterday. It is wired into a Belkin wireless N ADSL router, along with an xbox, and my Mac is connected to the router via wireless N. My Mac is set up with iTunes Home Sharing, and also runs a DLNA server that I use to serve up video and audio to my xbox. The xbox does this flawlessly.
The Apple TV audio out put drops out regularly, several times minute. This is streaming music and video from the Mac, and also when watching previews of HD movies from the iTunes store. The video keeps playing, interestingly, it's only the audio side that seems to suffer.
As the xbox works fine, I don't believe it is the wireless connection between the Mac and router.
As content from both my Mac and the iTunes store suffers, it's looking like an issue with the Apple TV itself.
All my devices have fixed ip addresses. I have tried switching Dolby on and off on the Apple TV, but it has no effect. My Apple TV told me there was a software upgrade available shortly after I plugged it in, and I let it go ahead. It reports version 4.1.1.
Can anyone suggest a solution? Is this a problem that others are experiencing?
    Thanks,
    Mike.

Well, having tried everything I could think of, it looks as though the problem is all down to a faulty optical audio cable! So, nothing to do with Apple TV at all

  • Firewire speeds and audio/video with Apple TV

    Hello,
I hope someone can give me some advice regarding 400 vs 800 Firewire connections.
After picking up an Apple TV about 8 months back, I have decided to consolidate all the audio/video content on my wife's and my Macbooks.
Looking at grabbing a Mac mini and connecting a large hard disk via Firewire to that to store everything. I don't plan on connecting the Mac mini to the TV...will continue to use the Apple TV unit for that. However, while some some of the content will sync between the Apple TV unit and external hard disk connected to the Mac mini, I figure there will still be a good portion that would be shared/streamed off the external disk as it is viewed or listened to.
I currently have an Airport Extreme network, and I am able to share/stream video and audio from my Macbook to the Apple TV and it works great. My question is, when I add the Mac mini and start streaming/sharing off the external hard disk attached to it, will there be a difference in performance if the drive is connected via 400 Firewire vs an 800 Firewire?
I figure the wireless transfer between the Mac mini and the Apple TV would be the limiting factor, but felt it prudent to at least check if the Firewire connection would have an effect.
If not, then I plan on picking up a cheap, used older model Mac mini with the 400 Firewire port to save some cash. The machine doesn't need to do anything more than stay powered on with the iTunes app running and sending files back and forth to the Apple TV.
    Thanks in advance!

No doubt the wireless transfer is the weakest link in the chain. Firewire 800 is substantially faster than 400, so you would gain some future-proofing by going with it. And the 2009 Minis come with Wifi-N, while the older models come with G/B.
A used Mini will usually lack the Apple warranty.
Minis are so handy that you have to ask yourself, why is someone getting rid of it? My somewhat cynical answer is that many Minis being sold on the used market are being gotten rid of because of some lurking problem issue that the owner hasn't been able to resolve.
If you must buy an older model, consider an Apple refurbished Mini, which comes with full warranty and current software.

  • New Audio Issues with Apple TV

As of last week my Apple TV has not been able to play audio on a consistant basis. I have it connected to a Samsung TV which is connected to Sony Soundbar Station. The Apple TV audio plays for 2 seconds but then switches to the Cable Audio. I have had the Apple TV for 2 years with no issues before last week. I am playing my movies from my Macbook Pro (last 2008 model)
It seems to be a problem that many are having. Has anyone found a solution or should I just restore the unit?
    Thanks,
    Luke

I've found that more times than not, some devices DO NOT like converters.
For example, I had a Mini-HDMI to Full-sized HDMI converter.  It never worked no matter what I tried. But the pieces independantly worked fine.
So I finally had to buy a cable that had Full-sized HDMI on one end and Mini-HDMI on the other.  With no adaptors.  Then everything worked fine.
    Just something to think about.
    Just wondering though.
Why not connect the Optical cables directly from the TV to the Stereo instead of trying to create adaptor bridges from the Apple TV.
What may be happening is that the Audio is automatically going through the HDMI and not wanting to use the aux audio setup you have created.
If you are intent on keeping the setup this way, you need to go through the device settings to see what can be changed.

  • Audio problems with Apple TV YouTube

Video's working beautifully, but I've missed something obvious with audio. Can't get any audio playback. Everything else in Apple TV is playing back audio well. What have I missed?

  • How to correct "An incompatible audio signal" with Apple TV and HD signal

I have an Apple tv2(mc572Ll/a) running version 4.4.4 of the software, connecting to an older Sharp Aquos LCD-26d6u TVvia a regular HDMI cable.
I used to be able to watch a rented movie until my onsitel technician/ teenager adjusted something.
Now when the preview plays the sound works. When a video is displayed using AirPlay from the iPhone the sound works.
But when the HD movie plays the message "an incompatible audio signal has been received. Check the output device settings" and there is no sound.
When I connect this to a newer HDTV the movie sound works.
Any suggestions on what Apple tv or tv settings to use to get the sound back (other than upgrading my technician/teenager/tv)?

Thanks!  I changed the Dolby setting from On to Auto, and the sound started working for Netflix TV shows.  Before I was getting the message:
Incompatible audio format received check output device settings
    and there was no sound.
The Settings are accessed through Apple TV.   When you have Apple TV on, and you see all the colored rectangles for Netflix, huluplus, HBO etc., (which can be accessed by repeatedly hitting the Menu button on the remote), the top row shows:
Movies   TV Shows  Music  Computers  Settings
Use the 4 way controller to choose Settings, then press the button in the center of the 4 way controller to select Settings.  Then select Audio Video.  Then scroll down to Dolby Digital.  When you are on Dolby Digital and you push the button in the center of the 4 way controller, the setting will change.  I changed the Dolby Digital setting to Auto.

  • Audio Problem with Apple AV Cable

I just got the genuine Apple AV Cable for my iPod, which is great but when I connect it to my TV, I have to turn the volume right up on both devices. Does anyone else have this issue, or am I gonna have to get the Universal Dock?

Check your volume level under the "Settings" menu at the top level. It comes very low when you first get it. Crank it up and you should be OK.
Apple, however, really pulled a fast one by switching the normal yellow video cable from a typical camera cable output to red and the yellow to sound for right channel. If you do this, you can probably use the output cable you got with your camera and take the AV cable they sold you back to the store.

  • How can i use airplay with apple tv on a set of audio speakers?

    hello there,
i've got a problem with my stereo apple tv combination.
my TV does support HDMI so i can use my apple tv on my HDTV. only my audio is being played on my internal speakers of my HDTV. I do have a set of speakers. but it doesn't support optical audio out. so i was wondering if its possible to use an Airport Express en plug my speakers in there. then wirelessly send the audio from my apple tv to my Airport/speakers. do any of you think that thats possible?? cause i really can't find another way to transfer my audio to my speakers...
    Thanks alot!!

Unfortunately you can't send audio from the Apple TV to an airport express, but you can send audio from your mac/pc to the airport express via iTunes/Airplay, you could also send audio from an iPod/iPhone to the express. The express supports both optical and 3.5 mm in a unified port.

    Hi Brian,
Thanks restoring and restarting didn't fix my problem - i have started it fresh and still it doesn't work. Basically I press ONCE on the remote, after the machine has not had any commands for 10 minutes, and the cursor skips from one end of the menu to the other - so I can't choose network or update software etc - I sometimes manage to stop it randomly in the middle of the menu if I press on a command in the middle of the cursor skipping all the menu steps...not sure what the problem is but I have basically not used my brand new apple tv since I bought it for that reason! I should call Apple support I suppose! grrrr hate wasting time with stuff like this!
    Thanks for your help though!

  • Video and audio not synchrone with apple tv after update mountian lion on macbook pro

i have a problem with my apple tv. after i bought and instaled mountain lion on my mac book pro i have trouble with apple tv and my laptop. when my laptop conects with apple tv most of the time my wifi doesnt work on my macbook but on my apple tv it stil does work. when it does work and i play a movie of my own by using itunes the first second the video and audio is synchrone but after that audio is at normal speed but the video gets behind. and i am getting sick of it. does sumbody reconize the problem and can help me with this problem?????

Same issue here- I can airplay my amazon prime library just fine from my iphone 5 but on my macbook- (mavericks, 15 inch 2013 retina with quad core i7, nvidia 650 M and SSD) it just sputters and lags.
I have noticed web video is considerably worse than local content, giving me pauses of up to 2 or 3 seconds in which video stops but audio continues in the amazon player. Youku video, however, seems relatively stable. Our subscription speed is 25 mbps, so that should be plenty to stream SD video from Amazon and doesn't account for why it would be nice and stable from the iphone, but not the mbp.
Playing light, locally hosted steam sidescrollers  like Limbo is better but gives periodic drops in framerate on the Tv. when mirroring the framerate remains steady on the MBP screen.
Games airplayed from my iphone seem relatively stable, though with a noticably lower framerate on the TV than on the phone.
It seems these issues have abated considerably since yesterday's Apple TV update, but are still curious nonetheless and I'm not sure that the update yesterday was specifically meant to address those issues or if I'm just getting a time with less network interference now.
Comcast recently installed a new router/modem/phone combo, replacing our old separate modem and router setup. I'm going to test if putting the network on a different channel helps.
