Audio Professional Please

I've decided to swap out my superdrive for a second internal hard drive (yes its possible). My reason was to have all my sound banks and samples on the second drive while reserving my system drive for OSX and my programs.
I plan to do midi recording using plugins that use large sample banks (eg: EXS, MachFive, Kontakt, etc). I understand that it is not good to record to the system drive. From what I assume, this is regarding audio. So I'm wondering if midi will have the same 'harmful' effect if I'm saving my sessions to the system drive while running the plugins' samples from the secondary hard drive.

On which computer? The MBP? Have you researched if there are possible heat-issues with two harddrives?

In that case you have to keep a close eye on your RAM-use. This thread explains it pretty well: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7320298&#7320298

Absolutely not. But if you record audio while the instruments play back via midi, you put much more 'strain' on the MBP than is necessary. I'ld recommend to Freeze tracks before starting an audiorecording session. See pages 181 and 200-204 of the LP8 User Manual for more explanation. In short: when you freeze a track, a temporary audio file of that track is created, and all insert plugins and SI's get disabled, effectively reducing the processing power needed for playback, and freeing up power for audio recording. When recording audio, as little else as possible should be going on, CPU-wise.

See my reply in the other thread. Please don't double post as it is confusing to give answers. Unfortunately your picture doesn't show any helpful information to give us a clue as to what the problem is. A more helpful image would be of the same view but with the Input/output selection shown (rather than the fx view) by clicking on the double arrow icon to the left of the fx one which is selected at present.

  • No Audio output please help!!!

I have a Toshiba Satellite A205S4617 Vista and audio wont come out of the speakers. I have tried:
    1. Reinstalling audio driver from the Toshiba website
    2. Updating all drivers from Control Panel - Sound - Device Menus (said everything was up to date but when I went to sound to do a test it said it failed)
    3. System Restore (but it didn't give me an option to go back to yesterday when the audio was working, any idea how to get it to do that? )
    4. Reboot F2,F9,F10 config restore
Any more ideas please help!!! thanks.

Time to restore the hard disk to its original out-of-the-box contents using Toshiba recovery media. If the sound doesn't work then, you have a hardware malfunction.

  • Satellite P75-A7100 No HDMI Audio Help Please!

Had to make device dual boot due to work circumstances with 7 32bit on one side and 8.1 64 bit on the other side.  Read the posts and lots of tinkering with but still no audio out on the HDMI on either sides.  Primarily looking to accomplish on the 8.1 side.  Went through thre reccomended driver install directly from the TOSHIBA page in the order reccomended:
    1. Chipset
    2. HD4600
    3. Conexant Audio Driver
No luck with the video being fine and no audio.  Not recognizing the audio connection in the drivers portion even under disconnected and disabled devices.
Also downloaded latest HD4600 driver from intel and tried to manually install AUDIO portion but getting the windows Error 10 and not allowing.  From what I read that is the fix but no luck there.
    Any suggestions or direction please?

    Satellite P75-A7100
    Downloads here.
I don't really know anything about this. I stopped by because you didn't mention looking for the HDMI audio here.
Control Panel > Sound > Playback tab
If you don't see it there, right-click in that panel and make sure all devices are showing. I once needed to change the default device there in order to enable the HDMI sound.
    Just a a thought. If that's not your trouble, I can't help.

  • Which Audio Interface Please?

    Hi,
Looking to buy a audio interface real soon but confused as to which one to purchase from the following list:
    a) Edirol FA-66
    b) Presonus Firebox
    c) Focusrite Saffire LE
Would really appreciate people's opinions on the above - pros/cons, ease of use, sound quality, working with MBP with Logic Studio.
    Thanks.

Am I correct in that the DX 7 is a full professional synth- I think it will have audio outputs. In that case you would be able to run it into your duet (I think) and of course it could output as MIDI as well.
Does the DX 7 output into an amplifier if you wanted it to- for stage use? If so, then the output of that will go into the audio inputs of the Duet I imagine quite nicely. If it plays through a little speaker on the instrument itself then you should get that sound into your DAW through the Duet.
The M-Audio is only a MIDI interface: it won't do anything other than that. So you would be able to use your DX 7 as a controller for sending out MIDI data, through the M-Audio, which will then be the data that makes your software synthesizers, either built into Logic or third party, sound. You would be using the DX 7 only as a MIDI controller at this point, which is less than it was designed to do overall but MIDI is MIDI- with one peculiarity I discovered: apparently the DX 7 only allowed for a velocity of 90 out of 127 as it's peak. Velocity is roughly how hard something is hit in MIDI relating to how loudly it sounds. (This is an over simplification, but should make the concept clear.)
This will likely not be a big deal, and may not actually be true with your specific machine, I'm just telling you.
As far as guitar, you could just plug it in to the Duet and use the amp modeling software in Logic (only so-so) or a third party thing like Amplitube. You may need some pre-amplification for it- I use a Presonus Tube Pre. (I should mention that I don't have a Duet- I'm going by the tons of good reviews I've read on it here.) You can also use the Duet with microphones obviously, and mic the cabinet or the acoustic guitar as well.
My overall point is that while you may have to deal with a weak point in your chain, the quality of your A/D converters will be something you can never overcome- I mean, everything happens there. That is why I'm telling you go get something good if you can at the moment and be done with it. MIDI doesn't matter because it isn't sound, it's just data that tells things how to make sound somewhere else, so it doesn't degrade. Audio degrades everywhere, but having a good A/D converter will give you a good chance to have something good sounding.

  • Media pending, audio works, please help.

Suddenly Adobe premier does't show any video any more (in any window of the project layout).
All clips are linked correctly and are verified by the project windows - all audio of the clips plays correctly.
This happened after (several manipulations after) it crashed while exporting media containing stacked titles and two simple .tiff pictures (I know it dosn't like stacked pics, so I don't use them much as it always crashes.
Now, the project worked when I removed my still picture stack, so I added them again one-by-one. This time it didn't give a crash message but simply stopped showing ANY video.
I am in a terrible situation now as I have deadlines to meet.
I have reloaded the project, I have tried prevous projects, they all refuse to show any video.
All clips are linked, the time line moves and plays audio, the effect control recognizes all clips.
    HELP !! Please.

    Thanks for your question:
    1.  I layer still images for example to have several small pics in different places over the video. That's the most straightforward - in this case, 1 or 2 layers, might work without crashing.
    2. I can use png, tiff, jpg, the resut is the same.
    3. Situation gets worse with increasing file resolution (size or colour depth).
    4. Adding simple FX like cropping (which is the most used FX for still pics) will crash very early.  I can can crop stacked video all day with no crashes.
In the current example I was stacking 6 titles of one word, made within Adobe Premier, and making them move around using position and rotate. That worked fine, and then I added two images made of small screen shots of single colour shapes. Everything went ok, even the rendering (which is where often it crashes already). Then the crash I describe above happened when the export encoding was taking place.
Now, before my post I had re-loaded and it still didn't work, and no project would display video media - which is why I panicked - now I reloaded a second time and it works again. But for how long?
Clearly I need to get gto the bottom of this, but how to proceed ?
So far I have not had a crash by using video only - incuding stacked videos.
One thing I noticed which might be a clue is that when trying to import a high resolution picture, Adobe Premier simply gives an error message that the file is to big and unsupported - 'Final Cut' in that situation would ask if it is ok to use a lower resolution and proceed to downsize it.
All of this is daily bread and was so simple and stable with 'Final Cut', I cannot believe that Adobe would have difficuty doing these things - maybe it is an Adobe/Mac thing, but then I have the fast i-Macs (2 of the 27"models with 24GB cache) , Intel chips and all the recommended grahics cards and kit.
Is there perhaps a system configuration using external discs for selected functions which would help?  Or is there a configuration that defines cache versus disc, etc?
Thanks to all (and Adobe if you read this) if you can help - can't believe I am the only one.
    Best wishes,
    marco

  • FCP or Compressor Audio Problem - Please Help!

    Please Help!
I have completed my wedding project in Final Cut and it includes 4 extra stereo tracks (music etc) on the Final Cut Time line, therefore 5 stereo tracks in total. Music was just imported into the browser and then placed according in the time line.
When I export the whole project to Compressor, the video compresses fine into the DVD best quality format but the audio compressor has only compressed a SEGMENT of the FIRST stereo tracks?!
Totally Bizarre.. My client is waiting for the DVD and I’m at total loss!!
Desperate workaround (but want to avoid) If I have too i tried rendering the whole movie to a QT movie, then importing that into DVD Studio and just using the audio from that (which is ok) in my DVD project! But I don’t want to do this as I have not properly compressed the audio along with the video in the DVD best settings preset in compressor.

No I don't think so.. I use Switch to convert the .whatever files into .aff compliant files. Something has obviously go a miss somewhere during my edit, I just cannot think where. I did ask before if there was anyway to check for compression markers as the orginal problem seemed to be rendering just only a section of the audio. I did a clear markers control+' which clears markers on the timeline but not sure where that leaves compression markers. As I imply, I didnt deliberately saet any compression markers but maybe some crept in there?
Also I found it odd why SP pro originally came up with just "Error" when I tried to export the project to it? I tried a fresh sequence with a small amout of video on it and it exported fine into Soundtrack Pro (SP).
Additional question: What is the purpose for the mix down in the Sequence settings then? I seemed to do the trick for me? Should I include this in my work-flow because it is not always necessary to use Soundtrack Pro just for laying down a music bed?
    Thanks

  • Problem with audio - urgent please

    Hello,
i am totally new to adobe premiere,
i have urgent project that i have to finish, when i insert mp4 vedio to time line it appears normally as audio and video in time line, when i try to insert another one, only the video appears in time line without audio !!
i made a new project, inserted mp4 file, it appeared normally aud & vid, then inserted another one, also worked fine, third one appeared in time line without audio !! i removed everything from time line and started to insert the files again but all of them appeared without aud, even the 1st two vid that worked normally before,
    please advise urgently
thanks a lot and merry Christmas

No, this shouldn't be caused by any limitations in the trial. And you are absolutely 100% certain the A1 button is highlighted? What happens if you just drag the audio down to the timeline? You can use the button in the picture and drag from it down to the timeline...

  • Audio question please help

I will apologize in advance for my lack of knowledge of my new iMac. I have had it for about 3 months and I cant seem to get any audio from my mixer to come out. I have Klipsch 2.1 sound running out which does work well but I cant get the audio in from my mixer(Behringer DJX 700) to come through. I am sure its something simple but I cant find anywhere that tells me how to do this. I had it running through my Dell in to the sound card and it was fine but the Dell has all but died and I cant record anything anymore. Someone please help a newbie out!! thanks!

Hello and welcome to Apple Discussions...
    Behringer DJX 700
Check with the vendor site to make sure their software/hardware is Mac OS X compatible.
Considering it worked with your Dell it's obviously Windows compatible but may not be Mac. I hope that's not the case for you.

  • Audio-problems, please help!

    iphone4G:
I can´t use my telephone :-(. There´s no audio. The phone-partner can hear me, but I can´t hear him! When I take the hear-loud-function, I can hear him!
Do you have an idea? I restarted already and the one-year-guarantee is just over ...only a few days :-(
    Please help!

This is really a reply to everyone on this thread.
Thanks for all your comments and input, I now have something extra to add.
I've had further discussions with the Apple techs, who read through a report I sent them, and this thread, which revealed that only tracks purchased in Tiger via iTunes escaped the sound issue (see above).
I carried out a few more tests while in discussion with them, but to no avail. Their recommendation is scrub the disc, and install a completely new system. I'm not looking forward to that, but at least I have the benefit of two hard discs in my 'mac running independently, so I'll use one of those.
I've been further advised by an IT friend that the problem might be caused by another piece of software being present on the machine that has an effect on Quicktime, even while it is not active. He said that that is a nightmare to track down, installing one item of software after another in an attempt to make the fault reappear - or not, of course.
It seems that if this does not fix the problem, there might be a fault with the 'mac itself. First things first though, scrub the disc. Unless anyone can suggest anything else?
Daniel, you suggest cleaning the cache. I don't really understand caches at all, so if you could give me a short idiot's guide to what these are, and what you might feel the benefit would be, I'd very much appreciate it. Will it do anything else to my system?

  • Help with Audio Formats please

    Hello everybody,
I have a problem with the Java AudioFormat class, can you help me please?
The thing is Im working on a voice chat using the following audio format settings:
    AudioFormat(AudioFormat.Encoding.PCM_SIGNED, sampleRate, sampleSize, 1, 1, frameRate, false);
    Where:
    audioReadBytes = 1024;
    sampleRate = 8000.0F;
    frameRate = 8000.0F;
    sampleSize = 8;
My problem is that these settings can cause incrementing voice delay and sometimes even block the application. It works fine on a LAN but on the internet it never works.
I wanted to ask you if theres a better audioformat setting that can decrease the size and quality of the sound, so it works on low bandwidths.
Im new to audio formats so I dont understand them much and when I tried to change the settings by decreasing the sample rate I didnt get what I expected.
    Please help me...
    Thanks a lot,
    Dan.

Based on the concept of Unity in a gain chain, if you set the levels properly at the output of the analog mixer, then they should be fine coming into the software after the A/D conversion. As long as you don't clip the digital input, you can adjust levels internally on an audio timeline, so it is always better to err on the side of too little rather than too much.
Digital maximum is -20 dB which is equivalent to 0 dB VU in the analog world. This provides sufficient headroom to avoid clipping in most circumstance.
Try a few different levels and see what works best for your needs.

  • Apple TV - audio support - ******** PLEASE HELP

    Please help!
I am considering to buy an APPLE TV but I don't want to waste the money if it won't work with my system. I desperately need some guidance:
I have an extensive library of music on my Win XP computer. The library is all in MP3 format (encoded at rates 192-256K). I encoded all of these over the years from CD's (I have tossed the CD's after I ripped them). So now I have this extensive (1000+ song) library. Well, I would like to play them on my home audio system (and not my computer which has s6%%& speakers).
I have an NAD receiver which has an optical digital audio input. The ATV has an optical digital audio output. My aim was to download (actually download to the ATV HD, not wirelessly stream from my computer as this requires my computer to be always on. I am a securities trader and my computer is too busy on other aps).
In order to view the library of music (all MP3 songs) I would connect the HDMI (or component) to my LCD TV which has all of these connection inputs.
    A few questions (please):
    1) Is it possible for me to DOWNLOAD all of my MP3 songs from my computer to the ATV?
    2) If the above is possible, would I be required to "convert" my MP3 library into the iTunes format for playback or could I just play the audio file in the MP3 format?
    3) If I am forced to convert from MP3 to itunes format won't there be some loss of audio quality in the sound caused by re-encoding process?
    4) Is the digital audio optical connection going to produce good sound (I have a great NAD AV receiver and speaker system that has great DVD and CD sound playback)?
    5) All I want to do is to have good sound from an easy to read library. I don't want to be forced into using iTunes proprietary control format (believe me, Apple is banking on controlling the music industry this way. I served on the legal review of this some years ago). I looked at using the Sony PS3 as a device to accomplish my objectives. However, I am concerned that the sound card on the Sony PS3 may be inferior to the ATV sound card.
I really don't care about downloading videos, playing back photos, or ordering items from the iTunes store. I just want to get good quality sound playback and I want to know if the ATV is the best device for this?
    Desperate for anyone's expert advice.
Thank you so much for answering.

Why on earth did you throw away the CDs ???
Real shame as you've now lost the original quality songs.
    A few questions (please):
    1) Is it possible for me to DOWNLOAD all of my MP3 songs from my computer to the ATV?
If the MP3s are less than 32GB total tehy'd fit on a 40GB AppleTV (It has 32GB of usable space).
    2) If the above is possible, would I be required to "convert" my MP3 library into the iTunes format for playback or could I just play the audio file in the MP3 format?
Highly unlikely - I've had some MP3s that don't play on some devices due to experimental encoding strategies but you should be fine.
    3) If I am forced to convert from MP3 to itunes format won't there be some loss of audio quality in the sound caused by re-encoding process?
Converting lossy format to lossy format will always lose quality - whether or not it's perceptible is another issue. I doubt you'd have to though.
    4) Is the digital audio optical connection going to produce good sound (I have a great NAD AV receiver and speaker system that has great DVD and CD sound playback)?
As good as the quality of your MP3s,
    5) All I want to do is to have good sound from an easy to read library.
A 40Gb AppleTV is worth the money for that alone IMO.
The sound card is irrelevant if outputting digitally, but the quality of the software/hardware decoder for MP3 might be relevant. In practice i doubt you'd have a problem.
MP3s, WAVs etc will be converted to PCM audio for playback via optical from AppleTV - will the NAD accept this? - I'd be surprised if it didn't.
One real pain with the PS3 is that only one audio out is active at a time so you end up swapping settings all the time.
I really don't care about downloading videos, playing back photos, or ordering items from the iTunes store. I just want to get good quality sound playback and I want to know if the ATV is the best device for this?
It's an excellent device for this, but I doubt it's the best if you had money to burn on audiophile media center solutions...
