Audio quality During call

I have been having issues where the caller on the other end of a phone conversation cant hear me.
Now i have been calling mobile and fixed line phones and both think its a crank call :-)
All audio levels have been turned up.
Having just upgraded to 1600.2479.7740.11451 i have begun to suffer this problem again now with added feedback.
I dont know if this is a base station issue with vodafone.
Has anyone else seen this problem,
The short love affair with this phone could be drawing to an end

I had the same problem with my first Lumia 800. I replaced it after a week (mainly due to the sound issues) and since then this special problem didn't occur anymore.

  • Audio quality during call on lumia 820 is terrible

Hi i have noticed that audio quality through headphones on my lumia 820 is terrible. On full volume , the sound is very low and its really tough when you are outside your room. Without headset its little better but i have checked with other headset and its same. People are not able to hear my voice on the other end of calls with and without headphones. I heard this is a common problem with everyone. Please do let me know that it is the problem with my phone ir in general with lumia 820.

Hi, That's unfortunate for you. My Lumia 820 headphone audio quality is great. That is true that the sound level should be higher as in sometimes I have to crank the volume level up to 30/30 to get good and loud sound output. Still, I have no personal complaints about 820 audio quality. Perhaps they'll update the output levels higher in next patch.

  • Poor sound quality during calls

The sound quality during calls is very poor and quiet. I have the latest operating system and the volume is at maximum.
I am not using any headsets etc just using the handset in the normal way without any accessories.
I am on the verge of getting rid of this handset due to this issue.  The sound quality is extremely poor when handset is held to the ear during phone calls.  It is slightly better on speaker phone but not much.
Any help or advice would be appreciated before I decide to move to something else.
    Thanks

Xchanvonx, thanks for the details. It does sound like your phone has a mind of it's own! Have you tried this:http://vz.to/16IVkUN and retested? Please keep us posted after you try this.

  • Poor audio quality on calls (New York City)

The audio quality for my calls has always been poor. Recently I heard that that is typical for iPhones in New York City. Is that right?
In my experience the most advanced phone in the world sure does sound like a tin-can telephone.

you might have more luck in the at&t forums
    http://forums.wireless.att.com/
i have read press reports about generally dismal 3g quality in NY on the at&t network... i don't think it is limited to iphones, but all 3g phones. since you posted this in original iphone section i am guessing you are on the original iphone which uses the 2g network... i remember reading at&t was reassigning some frequencies that was causing some with 2g phones to experience some issues, i will post the link if i can find it!

  • Weird audio problem during calls

I have a weird audio problem and was wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem or could help...
My wife and I both have iPhone 5's and sometimes (not all the time) when she calls me (or I call her), it connects, but no matter which audio input I choose (phone, bluetooth, speaker, headphones), I cannot hear her, but she can hear me... I hang up, call back (and when I call, there is no dialing sound, nor any other phone sounds) and it's the same thing. Sometimes restarting the phone works, other times I have to restart it 3-4 times before it'll work again.  I try different things during these calls, like turning on/off bluetooth and/or wifi (pretty much anything I can think of that would make a difference), but nothing seems to help.
The (other) weird part is that after the last time of this happening, I tried calling my iPhone with my office phone and it worked fine, so then I immediately call my wife back with my iPhone and it was doing the same thing again. I called her back using my office phone and could talk to her fine...
This problem has been going on for a few months now and I have tried restoring the phone a couple times (and I am on the latest iOS) and sadly, that hasn't done anything to help... Does anyone have any ideas what is going on? I'd make an appointment for the problem, but since it doesn't do it all the time, I don't know what good it would do... But it is getting very frustrating!
    Thanks for any help!
    -Jason

Thanks for the response!  It happened again yesterday...  It seems to be happening more frequently in the past few weeks now.
I checked the link and have tried all of the things listed at one point or another over the past few months.  I did just check my Carrier settings and it said it had updated (it's on 14.1), but I am not sure when that happened (could have been today, could have been after my last restore last week, not sure).  I'll keep my fingers crossed that maybe that fixed it...
If it continues to act up, would you recommend that I bring the phone in to an Apple store or an AT&T store?  I bought the phone through Apple, but my carrier is AT&T (and if you suspect that the problem may be with the cellular conection), maybe the AT&T store would be the better choice?
I really wish the problem would be more consistant or go away, cause trying to get the problem solved is driving me crazy!

  • Lumia 925, earpiece audio trouble (voice calls)

Background: I am a T-Mobile USA subscriber. Previously owned a Lumia 710, then switched to 810 when it became available. Great products; I've been very happy with both. Two weeks ago gave the 810 to another family member and got the Lumia 925.
I love the 925. The screen is great, the phone is light, and the camera amazing. Except for one thing. The first day I had the 925, I noticed that the audio from the earpiece did not no sound right. While on calls, the earpiece had a nasty buzz to it, sounding like a damaged speaker. The audio quality while on speakerphone was perfect, so I could not blame T-Mobile's network. I took the phone back to T-Mobile and they replaced it, no questions asked.
The second 925 sounded great. The earpiece audio was clear, without any buzzing or audio glitches. I was a happy man and everything was great, that is, until yesterday. Now the second 925 developed a similar bad audio quality during calls, but only from the earpiece. The speakerphone sounds fine, and using a bluetooth headset sounds fine also. It is not easy to describe the "badness" of the audio but there is a significant decrease in quality. The audio level seems to be down; with the volume all the way up, you can barely hear the other caller. The audio also has a buzzy, muffled quality to it, almost as if it is coming out of a tin can, and it is not easy to understand the caller. I tried calling my old Lumia 810 and the sound on the 810 is just fine. The trouble seems to be only the earpiece on the 925.
This morning I went back to T-Mobile and they replaced the SIM card. I'm not sure how that would help, but they said it should help if this is a network issue. That was 5 hours ago and the audio quality has not improved at all. I have also performed a full phone reset, then reloaded my previous settings, but the problem persists. At this point it appears to be a hardware issue, but it is very odd that it happened on the first 925 right away, and on the replacement one as well, but after two weeks. Beside the bad earpiece audio the phone works great. The apps work as they should, and the camera is lovely, but if I first need the device to function as a phone.
I am debating if I should try a third Lumia 925. I am a bit reluctant, as I'm afraid that it might break again. At least now it is within the 30 day return period, but what if this issue happens later? I would love to stick with Lumia but these issues with the 925 are worrisome.
Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.

I'm having the same problem with my Nokia Lumia 925.  Voice in the earpiece audio is otherwise ok but when the other person is saying the S-letter in a word the earpiece audio makes it sound like other person is having a lisp or something. It's really annoying. Same effect comes when other person on the line is inhaling or exhaling. There is this whoosh sound the earpiece is making on S-letters, inhale - exhale sounds and on other low frequency background noices. Phone was like this from my first calls after unboxing. ...
I was thinking how to describe my audio problems with 925 but you did it perfectly! I have exactly the same problems with the S-letters, inhaling, exhaling etc. which makes every voice call more or less annoying experience.
I was thinking to replace the unit but the longer I read this thread, the more I start to think this is "a feature" i.e. bad design and/or poor HW choices. That said, ff this is so common issue, I wonder howcome there wasn't anything about this in those several reviews L925 was subjected to when it was released. Or are the reviewers so busy in testing the 'smart phone' feature that they do not spend time to mundane stuff like voice call quality.
I love the phone otherwise; looks great, has fantastic camera, crisp and cleat display - anyhow, had I known about this, I would have left this to the store.
    EDIT:

I was making a Skype call from my Lumia 925 yesterday and with Skype the earpiece audio was clear and there was no whooshing disturbing the call. So i guess the speaker is working properly in Lumia 925 but the problem might be in 3G/4G reception (or somewhere else) that disturbs the call quality creating this whooshing in a call.
Havent' tried myself but if this is true, this starts to sound like some voice codec issue. ...which would be strange since one would think that the same speech encoding/decoding implementations are used in all Lumias so why would there be problems specifically in 925.
The good with this option would be that it's probably possible to fix with SW update. Provided that Nokia is aware of the problem or better yet, interested to anything about it.

  • Lumia 800 disastrous audio quality

Here goes my happy honeymoon with the phone.
I was fairly happy with the phone until I tried to listen to music on it. Sound quality (no matter which headphones I use, up to Westone 3) is awful. There's no bass whatsoever, the sound is dirty, no stereo separation etc. etc.
Really, I haven't heard anything as awful in years.
And here's a confirmation.  This is such an outlier among modern phones I really can't get how this passed the quality control.

Actually you don't use Moscow underground)) It is more than enough for everyday use for me. Sound is loud and clear so I can use high volume levels and I can't hear any details because of noise around. And I can't hear any difference in FM because of its nature. So it's more than enough for my regular use. I think that if you are audiophile you have to use some special player and not general purpose smartphone. Lumia isn't targeted for audiophiles I think. You can never expect from universal device to be good as one specialized, I think.
In any case disastrous audio quality during calls is real problem. Can you turn FM on and try to call using headphones. Is it my unique bug and should I go to service for phone replacement or not&
Let's stick to the sound problem with listening to music via the jack output here.
This issue has nothing to do with beeing audiophile. Even you hear the difference between a cheap onboard soundcard and the worse Lumia.
I use 20€ in-ears. Because of in-ears, I don't have much backround noise in trains. On this rather cheap headphones (far away from beeing audiohile, you see) I hear the lack of sound quality without comparing. Especially tracks with a lot of bass sound bad beceause of the low-cut, the review we posted above confimed.
For example, the deep pumping bass in this track, is completly flat on the lumia: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=npOcINSOWrQ&hd=1
To reach a bit of enjoyment, I have to max out the Volume. Is this really necessary on a 2011 high end smarphone priced at 500€, while my N82 was fine?
I would be glad if I knew that Nokia is aware of the problem. Maybe it's a software issue. If it's a Hardware issue, then at least implement an Equailizer!
The sound is not desastrous, but simply not good enough.

  • Low quality sound during call

    Hello,
Since the iOS 7 update that I've been noticed that the sound quality during calls is very poor to others, almost like I speaking away from the iphone without speaker, regardeless I keep earing everything loud and clear!
I've already tested with other iphone 4/4S/5 iOS 7 users, and also running different iOS versions, as well as other phone brands, and the problem maintains!
Upgraded to 7.0.3 today, despite the improvement/enhancements/bug corrections list dont mention any issue addressed to this problem, hoping to solve the problem, but nothing change, its pretty much the same as before!
All settings are at the max, and also perform some tasks as suggested on apple support forums like tweaking the accessability options, by turning noise reduction off, but still the same!!
    My S/N is C34JPLSTDTWF.
Hope I had described accuarately, in order to you perform the correct troubleshoot for this, this if you ain't already done it!
    Best regards,
    Pedro Sousa

This happened to me as well and I confirmed others are experiencing same speaker/mic/bluetooth issues with both 4S and iPad 2, 3.  Applied the updated patch yesterday, things are worse because now I have NO sound via the speaker.  What's the FIX?!

  • Audio Dropouts on calls after v.1.1.4 update.

I installed the *1.1.4 firmware* update the day it came out...since then, I'm having consistent audio-dropouts during calls.
It happens for anyone that I call, about *every 4 to 6 seconds*, I get a blip of silence, and makes conversing very difficult.
I tried the "Restore" option in iTunes, it backed up my phone first, then went to factory defaults.... Even before restoring my data, I made an outgoing call by manually dialing and got the same audio problem.
    Any ideas out there?
    thanks in advance,
    -h

If you have a friend that has a computer with iTunes on it, I would recommend Restoring your iPhone on their computer incase the firmware update through your computer might have not gone through correctly.
Or take it to a Genius Bar at a nearby Apple Store and have them restore and make sure the software is updated on your iPhone for you. Sometimes it just helps when they use their computers for updates.
I've noticed others having issues with updating their firmware as well on their personal computers, but when they take it in to the Genius Bar and they restore/update with their computers, it seems to work fine afterwards.

There's a whole lot to read in your post, and frankly I have not read it all.
Having said that, this troubleshooting guide should help:

In particular, pay attention to the mobile device support sections near the bottom, assuming you have already done the items above it.

  • Audio during calls

Hi, For the last few days (thinking about it, since I updated to iOS 6.0.1) I have been having a problem with the audio during calls. The sound keeps cutting out intermittently, so it sounds like I only hear every other word from the person I'm talking to. It only seems to happen when I call someone, not when I receive calls. Any advice would be helpful, thank you x

  • Poor On Call Audio Quality issue

    Hi guys,
Im aware everyone has issues while listening to music via the headphones as i have that too. Thats something i can live with.
However, what i cant live it is poor on call quality issues without the headphones. The other person on the call doesnt sound all that loud, clear n crisp to me. I keep having to press the phone more towards my ear to hear them louder and better. Its sub par. Its worse than any phone ive used.
I just switched from an iPhone to this and im very dissappointed.
NOKIA PLEASE FIX THESE AUDIO QUALITY ISSUES!!! This needs more addressing than the battery issues..

Happens to me on Lumia 800 (12070). Usually at the beginning of the call I can hear the other party well but the call quality seems to degrade slowly over the course of the call. I've tried pressing the phone closer to ear and going volume up or down but in some points of the call I have really hard time hearing what they're saying. Then it goes away and I can hear well again. It's not so much volume issue rather than the call getting really unclear.

  • No audio during call transfer and

I am installing a new CUCM BE6000 ver 9.1.2 platform, with CUCM , Unity connection, and presence server.
I am configuring on Unity Connection server the System Call Handlers for basic IVR functions, with the following options:
    a) Option 2  ----> Directory handler
    b) Option 0 (or do nothing)  -----> Operator's DN 1100
    c) Option to dial party extension during call.
    We have 2 configuration problems:
    Problem1:
When you select option "2", "0" or dial the party extension the call is transfer with no problem BUT we got silence during this transfer (before user takes the call or the call goes to user's Voice Mail)......., no rings, no MoH, nothing. So we would like to know which parameter is missing that could prevent to hear rings' sound or the MoH until client takes the call or the call goes to VM.
    Problem2:
If you select option 0, the call is properly transfered to operator's DN 1100, but if the caller does NOTHING the call goes to operator's VM  instead to be transfer to DN 1100 ( DN 1100 never rings, the call goes to VM)
Here we need to know how we can set this System Call Handlers to transfer the call to DN 1100 when user does nothing.

  • TS2326 Losing audio during calls

I have an iPhone 4 and when making or receving calls the audio disappears. the call remains connected as the other person can hear me but I can't hear them.  I have reset the phone, reset the network settings, swapped sim cards which confirmed it is a handset problem.  I wondered if it could be the earphone jack as it has had a lot of use since I've had the phone.  Anyway, any help would be appreciated.

Hi jths and welcome to this community
I am assuming that you are talking about audio that you have
on each slide and not audio that is set to play for the entire
project. In this case, the best place to look would be at the
timings per slide to ensure that the slide is as long or longer
time wise than the audio you have on it. Secondly, if you have user
interactions on the slide, you need to ensure that the "Stop Audio"
is not selected in the Properties of those click boxes, text boxes
    etc.
    Cheers
    Andrew
