Audio quality ipod touch 4

When listening to music through the speaker it is occasionally very grainy and very bad quality,(sounds like listening to an out of tune radio) [sorry dont know how else to explain it]
This only happens with certain songs (seems to be especially blues and some others) so it doesnt seem to be a problem with the speaker, as most songs are fine.
The songs were taken from cds so it isnt a problem with the actual music.
Any ideas as to why this is happening would be appreciated.

Hi,
I would guess that the songs you have (blues) are probably quite old, so the sound quality may not be as good as today's. Just a guess, though.
Hope this helps!

no audio on ipod touch 4th generation when recording videos

Does the Voice Memos app work? It has a VU meter to show recording level.
Is the microphone hole clear? It is the hole on the backside of the iPod by the camera lens.
    Did it ever work?

  • TV Audio to iPod Touch

Is there some way to get my TV's audio to play through my iPod Touch?

TV and TiVo audio outputs are RCA. I want to do this wireless from the TV to my iPod Touch. I know there are headphone systems that do this, but I want to use earbuds, and I have not yet found any wireless TV audio system that uses earbuds.

  • Video podcasts only playing in audio on ipod touch

Hey my ipod touch only plays the audio of the downloaded video podcasts, can someone help me please ?

If you play through music > more> podcast you will only hear audio! On the home screen there is a video app right next to the music app. So click on the video app and scrll down and you should be able to watch video podcast from there!

  • Streaming audio on ipod touch?

I can't get audio from the internet like radio station streams, or internet radio from my iTunes radio list. (In fact, the radio playlist didn't sync). Is this something that just isn't supported, or is there a player issue...?

What I'd really like is to be able to stream MLB games from its Gameday audio.
You can do that with the "MLB.com At Bat" apps on the AppStore, it says:
    http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=309327900&mt=8

  • IPod Touch video out to Composite "Hard Starting"!

Did you ever own a car that was a beast to start on a cold winter morning?
Well, same thing with my iPod Touch 4 to a composite video display.  I connect it, then go to YouTube to play a video or into my Movies folder to play one of my own.
I press play, and one of the following happens:
    1.  Video & Audio continue to play through iPod Touch(most common).
    2. Audio only plays through TV speakers.
    3. Video only through TV, audio via iPod Touch Speakers.
Sometimes it works only after I power down and power up the Touch.
Why does playing a video out to an external display have to be like starting an old car - multiple attempts??

My iPod touch 4gen video out does work - but rarely on the first try.  And I always make sure to have it connected before bringing up the YouTube or personal video I want to show.
As for my wife's iPhone 4, I was updating the OS and noticed that one of the update items included "Video Out".
Is video out not standard on iPhones as it is on Touches?

  • Ipod touch and treadmill training:mixed terrain

The ipod touch does not seem to support instructional audio with voice over. It works fine on classic but not on touch. In touch it plays the instructional audio as a musical album only.
Phone support tells me IPOD touch does not support these instructional audios such as treadmill training, serena williams and lance armstrong. there is no warning in the itunes store about not working with the touch. Can anyone shed light on this issue/

I failed to mention it works well on my old classic. I have owned the workout instructional audios for years. It makes no sense to me why apple would not support these audios on ipod touch. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

  • New iPod Touch, audio quality really noisy.

I just recently purchased an iPod Touch 4th generation in white on Boxing Day. So far, I'm enjoying my product, however when I try to listen to music through any earbuds the quality of the audio becomes distorted and noisy. I've tried the earbuds on other devices and the audio quality was also poor. I've tried using different earbuds with the iPod and the quality remains poor. I think there has been a manufacturer flaw in the product.
Do I return to the store in which I purchased the iPod and demande for an exhange? And if I do, would it be exchanged at none of my expense?
    Thank you in advance.

Well I don't have time to experiment in detail with and document technical analyses about the device but I will say that I did briefly compare it to the 2nd generation Nano as well as my home stereo using the same files (a couple of 256kbit AAC files ripped by myself in iTunes 8; one rock and one hip hop) several times and I enjoyed the resulting similarity throughout the various sources.
I'm quite content with the sound quality coming from this device... and I'm pretty anal about these things generally.

  • IPod Touch 2nd gen. audio dropouts

I just received my 2nd gen 8GB touch. Transferred one album to it for testing. The sound every now and then drops out for a split second. Never in the same spot in music though- so it's not a bad rip or faulty transfer. The dropouts also occur when listening to Pandora. I did a complete restore- and it didn't help. Turned off WiFi, no better.
Is this a known problem or is it unique to my iPod?
    Any known solutions?
    Thanks.

I have the same problem with audio dropouts with the Gen 2 32GB iPod Touch running Apple lossless, yet I never had this problem with Apple Gen 1 16GB iPod Touch running Apple lossless. This is a serious quality control issue and reflects lack of beta-testing. I have toyed with the idea of jumping into the Apple laptop world (from the PC world), but not now. I think this company has become marketing hype and does not care about quality control or perfection of a product. Lastly, I realy believe the audio quality is not on par with the Gen 1 iPod Touch (Klipsh IMAGE Headphones)-another suggestion of quality reduction to pay for marketing.

  • IPod Touch 4G music playback quality

I recieved an Ipod Touch 4G, 64GB, for Chrismas. This is my first Apple product.
As a handheld computer/game center/web browser, I really like it. It lives up to all of my expectations in that regard. However, as a portable music player, it's leaving me a bit disappointed. I discovered the joy of lossless audio a while ago and became a borderline audiophile. I'm not really anal-retentive, but I expect a certain level of sound quality when playing lossless files.
When using iTunes on my laptop (a Dell Studio XPS 1640) to play Apple Lossless files I've ripped from CDs, the music sounds  crisp, warm, and clear. However, these same files played on the iPod sound overdriven and tinny, and all the warmth and depth of sound is gone. Bass tones sound distorted, and quite a few artists voices sound like they're singing while holding their nose. This is not just with the lossless files, but also with my 256kbps purchases from the iTunes store.
I don't have iTunes set to copy all the files to the iPod as 128kbps, and I used the same Sennheiser MX-160 earbuds on the laptop as I did on the iPod. I'm currently going through some of the higher-rated equalizer apps in the AppStore to try to solve the problem, but none have been able to make the iPod match my laptop. I have also tried the iPod's built-in EQ settings, but those only took the already-poor audio quality and made it varying degrees of worse.
As I've said before, overall, I really like the iPod Touch. I'd like to keep using it. However, what's the point in having an iPod if it doesn't fulfill it's primary function, that of a portable music player.
    Thanks for any answers.

There is really no solution since the Cirrus Logic CS42L61 audio chipset that the ipod touch uses can only deliver a certain sound quality which is not that great. Apps may help to improve the sound quality by offering more equalizer options, however that cannot overcome for the lacking chipset. For exceptional sound there are other options on the market which are geared towards audiophiles and other listeners.

  • What is the audio quality on an iPod Shuffle?

I have just received a free iPod shuffle. I would like to know whether the sound quality is different on all different models/varieties of iPods. I am an audiophile and quality is 1st priority. If one has music files as AAC format with highest bit rate possible, will it sound exactly the same on a Shuffle as on an iPod classic, or what about an iPod touch? Where can I find a description of the different audio quality of playback on these different size devices?
    Thanks

Apple does not publish audio specs on the various iPods and this information is tough to come by. They all sound pretty similar, some will have slight differences from others due to the difference in chipsets used.
Personally I think my 1st Generation iPod Shuffle has slighter better bass than the 2nd Generation Shuffle, 3rd Generation is on a par with the 1st Gen, my fifth generation iPod sound cleaner than my 160GB iPod Classic and I prefer the 2nd Generation Nano sound to all of them.

  • New iPod Touch Sound Quality

I am really interested in comparisons of sound quality between the various generations of iPod.
Unquestionably, compression method and headphones play a critical factor, but taking these aside, I would be interested in people’s comments on particularly the 2nd Generation iPod Touch, and if anybody is aware of any technical analysis to compliment their listening views.
Has the sound quality changed over this last year with new software releases for the iPod touch in general?
I am aware of Mark Heijliger’s excellent analysis up to the 6G iPod at http://homepage.mac.com/marc.heijlig...surements.html, and was wondering if anybody was aware of a similar analysis for the iPod Touchs.
Finally (sorry!), with the new 120GB iPod Classic, does this have the same Cirrus Logic audio codec chip as the older 80GB and 160GB versions. I.e. can I presume that the sound quality (which has been questioned by a number of posters on this forum) is going to be the same?

Well I don't have time to experiment in detail with and document technical analyses about the device but I will say that I did briefly compare it to the 2nd generation Nano as well as my home stereo using the same files (a couple of 256kbit AAC files ripped by myself in iTunes 8; one rock and one hip hop) several times and I enjoyed the resulting similarity throughout the various sources.
I'm quite content with the sound quality coming from this device... and I'm pretty anal about these things generally.

  • Hissing iPod Touch -- some info...and audio not as good as Shuffle or Nano

Perhaps this info will help others and/or help Apple trouble shoot a deficiency in the iPod Touch.
My 16gb iPod Touch (1.1.2) hisses regardless of the quality of headphone. It is reminiscent of cassette tape hiss.
It will hiss at power-up (press bottom button).
It will hiss between songs and is apparent during song playback if the signal to noise ratio is low.
It will hiss continuously and for an indefinite period of time after the completion of a playlist -- this must affect battery life
It will stop hissing if, after completing the playlist, I go back to the main menu (bottom button)and let the unit power down automatically.
It hisses regardless of WiFi being on or off.
Taken collectively, the features of the Touch are remarkable and the technical achievement outstanding. However, as a $400 audio player, the iPod falls well short of the Shuffle and Nano (both of which I have) in terms of audio quality.

    Hey rgarrett,
It sounds like there is an issue with your iPod touch.
Try restoring the iPod and testing it again with the headphones it came with.

If it still has the issue you may want to setup repair online or make a reservation to visit a Mac Genius.

  • 4g iPod Touch support audio line-in?

I am interested in using the video camera on the new 4th generation iPod Touch but I am concerned about the quality of the built-in microphone, particularly for music. I was wondering if anyone knows if it's possible to use the headphone port in order to get audio in and override the built-in mic. If not, it would be great if anyone knew of a dock connector audio-in adapter.

thanks anna... but that's only half of what i want to do. i need a cable that also allows me to connect a microphone.
so on one end, it will have a minijack with FOUR rings (not three like a normal headphone jack). on the other end of the cable there should be two sockets - one of them a socket for a stereo cable like the one you showed, and the other a socket for a mono microphone.
that way, i can have sound going into AND coming out from the ipod simultaneously, all through the one cable.
