Audio quality is lacking

When I connect my harman kardon 2.1 speakers (not Sound Sticks but model HK965) to my analogue audio jacks of my Power Mac G5 I get a very bad sound quality. Everything sounds "tinny".
If I connect the same speakers the same way to my Toshiba Laptop the sound is ok.
How can I check if the Mac soundcard is ok?
What can I adjust on my Mac to fix it?
Thanks,
Municher
Power Mac 2 x 2.0 GHz   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

On a Mac the sound is integrated on the logicboard so there is no soundcard.
What I suspect is you need to adjust the equalizer in iTunes or check the analog output in System Preferences>Sound.
The HK 2.1 isn't the best of devices to judge sound quality either, they are just computer speakers.
Now hook a Toslink optical cable to a quality 5.1 reciever like a HK DPR 2005 and a set of HKTS-14 5.1 speakers, enable digital optical out in System Preferences >Sound and prepare to be blown away.
If you appreciate clear powerful sound, DVD movies in surround sound, it's the way to go.
Remember to clone your boot drive to a external, it will save your bacon.

  • Audio quality on apple TV

Audio quality when playing songs thru apple tv is poor (too much bass) when those songs originated from download sites other than itunes......Is this normal??? If not any ideas to fix this???

I use appleTV for 90% of my audio listening. I output via the digital on the ATV into my naim hifi and have to say that at the price point it beats without doubt hifi well over ten times the price.
However the analogue audio out is mediocre to say the least. The issues you are having with too much bass in fact is a lack of definition caused by a number of factors.
    1. 'Downloaded from other than iTunes' I will assume means you to-rent-ed them. Invariably these are at very low bit rates converted by muppets and therefore will sound dire.
    2. Rubbish hifi or worse out of the TV. For the best playback use a dedicated hifi, your TV speakers are not up to the task of TV sound playback let alone music.

  • Audio Quality with 2.1 update - GONE!

Has anyone else noticed that the audio quality with the iPhone after the 2.1 update has gone downhill. On several calls today I have had people on other iPhones asking for me to repeat myself, and me to them. We all got together today and it seems everyone in our little group has the same problem.
The calls I have made in the last day after the update to 2.1 are in the same area and places. Everything sounds bassy like the highs are gone. The quality is gone! When people talk I can hear a break-up (distortion) where the quality is lacking. What did Apple do to the awesome sound the iPhone 3G once had?
I would rather have a program crashing phone with great sound then what this has become.. Anyone else having the same problem? Is there something new under a secret icon on the phone that lets one fiddle with highs and lows?? Help my sound quality is gone...

I also got the same problem with voice quality. My friends cannot hear my voice clearly and always ask me repeat and repeat. One more thing, iPhone3G always pick up a lot of background noise. Because I used Motorola V9 which voice quality is better iPhone3G. I hope Apple can improve the voice quality soon, otherwise I need throw it away and use V9 again...

  • Very low audio quality after amber update

After installing amber update audio quality and volume has dropped significantly! Volume through speakers is alot lower, and when plugged into headphones audio lacks quality and depth. There is barely any bass and volume is very low, sounds like listening to a clock radio very disappointing, as audio quality on my 920 was very very good the best of any phone so far before amber update!

i haven't noticed that with my 920. have you tried performing a soft reset and also check that you are up to date with all the latest Nokia system app updates from the Store?

  • Lumia 800 disastrous audio quality

Here goes my happy honeymoon with the phone.
I was fairly happy with the phone until I tried to listen to music on it. Sound quality (no matter which headphones I use, up to Westone 3) is awful. There's no bass whatsoever, the sound is dirty, no stereo separation etc. etc.
Really, I haven't heard anything as awful in years.
And here's a confirmation.  This is such an outlier among modern phones I really can't get how this passed the quality control.

Actually you don't use Moscow underground)) It is more than enough for everyday use for me. Sound is loud and clear so I can use high volume levels and I can't hear any details because of noise around. And I can't hear any difference in FM because of its nature. So it's more than enough for my regular use. I think that if you are audiophile you have to use some special player and not general purpose smartphone. Lumia isn't targeted for audiophiles I think. You can never expect from universal device to be good as one specialized, I think.
In any case disastrous audio quality during calls is real problem. Can you turn FM on and try to call using headphones. Is it my unique bug and should I go to service for phone replacement or not&
Let's stick to the sound problem with listening to music via the jack output here.
This issue has nothing to do with beeing audiophile. Even you hear the difference between a cheap onboard soundcard and the worse Lumia.
I use 20€ in-ears. Because of in-ears, I don't have much backround noise in trains. On this rather cheap headphones (far away from beeing audiohile, you see) I hear the lack of sound quality without comparing. Especially tracks with a lot of bass sound bad beceause of the low-cut, the review we posted above confimed.
For example, the deep pumping bass in this track, is completly flat on the lumia: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=npOcINSOWrQ&hd=1
To reach a bit of enjoyment, I have to max out the Volume. Is this really necessary on a 2011 high end smarphone priced at 500€, while my N82 was fine?
I would be glad if I knew that Nokia is aware of the problem. Maybe it's a software issue. If it's a Hardware issue, then at least implement an Equailizer!
The sound is not desastrous, but simply not good enough.

  • What is the audio quality on an iPod Shuffle?

I have just received a free iPod shuffle. I would like to know whether the sound quality is different on all different models/varieties of iPods. I am an audiophile and quality is 1st priority. If one has music files as AAC format with highest bit rate possible, will it sound exactly the same on a Shuffle as on an iPod classic, or what about an iPod touch? Where can I find a description of the different audio quality of playback on these different size devices?
    Thanks

Apple does not publish audio specs on the various iPods and this information is tough to come by. They all sound pretty similar, some will have slight differences from others due to the difference in chipsets used.
Personally I think my 1st Generation iPod Shuffle has slighter better bass than the 2nd Generation Shuffle, 3rd Generation is on a par with the 1st Gen, my fifth generation iPod sound cleaner than my 160GB iPod Classic and I prefer the 2nd Generation Nano sound to all of them.

  • HP Slate 7 Voice Tab - Audio Quality Issue

I see drastic change in audio quality in HP Slate 7 Voice Tab after an upgrade to recent Kit Kat update. Songs and other media is not all audible , Volume through external speaker is very very less at maximum volume also.Tried with many song, HD videos but issue remains same and feels its related to new android version update on HP Slate 7 voice tab.
So would like to know is there any new update or solution for this issue.

    Hey @S_Thomas ,
    Welcome to the HP forums.
I understand you're experiencing issues with audio quality on your Slate 7 Voice Tab after updating to KitKat.
How to check for system updates:
You must be connected to the Internet to check for updates. Use the following steps to check for system updates on your tablet.
    1. On the Home screen, touch the All apps icon, and then touch the Settings icon.
    2. In the System section, touch About tablet.
    Figure 1: About tablet.
    3. Touch System updates.
    Figure 2: System updates.
    4. Touch Check now.
    Figure 3: Check now.
    5. Install any available system updates.
If no updates are available, or updates do not resolve the issue try the following.
Clear all cache on the tablet: Settings > Storage > Cached Data. You should have the option to erase all the cached data here.
Hard reset: While the tablet is on, press and hold the power button for 8+ seconds to force shut down. Turn the tablet back on and see if that helps.
Factory reset: Make sure you backup any important files or information first. Settings > Backup & reset > Factory data reset.

  • When playing any audio the audio quality on my Thunderbolt display steadily worsens over an hour period and becomes garbled. Restarting the media player fixes it. Does not occur when MacBook Pro is undocked.

When playing audio/video on my MacBook Pro docked to Thunderbolt display the audio quality steadily worsens until it is garbled beyond understanding. I don't know if it occurs when using the MacBook undocked. It takes about an hour to become noticeable and steadily worsens. Simultaneously when the computer speaks the time this is also gargled. As the problem develops it sounds like there is a static halo around each spoken word.

    Hi GeoChester,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that you are experiencing some sound issues on your Mac that worsens over time. In this situation, the first troubleshooting step that I would recommend would be to reset your computer’s PRAM. To do this, please follow the instructions in the following attached article.
OS X Yosemite: Reset your computer’s PRAM

  • Poor Audio Quality in my new HP 15 R203TX

Hi I have just purchased HP pavillion 15 R2037TX laptop. It comes with 5th gen 5200U processor with 4gb ram, 2gb nvidia 820M graphics 1tb of hdd with DOS with realtek hd sound technology.  I installed win 8.1 and accordingly installed all the drivers from the official hp website. After installing audio driver I found that DTS audio control panel was installed. My laptop is working fine except one thing  I am not getting proper sound quality which i used to enjoy in my previous e038tx laptop that  too came with DTS audio. The sound is not sweet or crisp rather very hazy when playing through external subwoofer and speaker. I enjoyed clear and crisp audio quality in the same speaker and sub woofer  previously. Plus I can not understand why after realtek hd audio I get dts audio control panel. Because the audio vendor says its hardware is Realtek HD audio. Realtek has its own audio control panel which I do not find here. Whatever kindly help me how can i enjoy beautiful sound >? thanx in advance

Hello friend   @lbrou87 I'm not hear to debate about the issue unless you are a Hp Support people (Which I think you are not).  And  I have explained everything  in my previous replies  then why are you asking absurd questions. This was my 2nd laptop after 7 years and I'm using 1st time a HP laptop. I could have gone with my previous brand laptop of DELL . I chossed Hp to try a new brand. I could have gone with purchasing DELL. If I pay a premium price for this hp model then why I'm getting a great featured laptop which gives me a low audio output. What you said in your reply  HP don't want to update the technology in the drivers which make Hp customers to buy external speakers. Then what more I can say!!!...  I'm really unsatisfied. The Hp support if they can't say anything then who should I go and ask. (sorry  friend  @lbrou87  if I'm being rude to you in this reply)
I was just trying to help.  I've been through this with HP Support before with a similar issue.  I though the premise of a forum was not only for HP's representatives to help, but other forum members as well.  But, since you want to be rude and obnoxious to someone that only wants to help, I'm done with this thread.  Wait for HP's representatives for help.  Good day sir.

  • Poor audio quality in iChat

When I use iSight in Skype it delivers a way better audio quality in comparison with iChat Audio/Video chat. It's not that crisp, more like a poor telephone call. I wonder if I can change it or is it just an iChat nature?
My connection speed is 1 MB.
Straming in Quicktime changed to 1.5 MB
My Output/Input settings in Sound tab seems OK.
    I don't use firewall.

    Hi Sleeze,
I do not have Skype so I can not judge. Most of the posts I have read seem to suggest iChat Audio is better.
However Skype could have updated their app.
As long as iChat Bandwidth and Quicktime streaming setting in System Preferences are not capping your connection I can not see any other changes you can make. (unless you are "too far" from the camera). If the last is the case it may pay to adjust the volume in System Preferences > Sound >Input tab as this is the master for iChat. I am not sure if it is the same for Skype.

  • Audio Quality in different mo

Is there a significant Audio Quality difference specifically in Entertainment and Gaming mode ? as i noticed better dynamics and high tones on entertainment mode but those can be easily replicated with the proper EQ changes on gaming mode, Its really a hassle to change modes everything i game or play movies/mp3. also im aware that theres a smart mode changers but dont wanna more apps running on my system as there are already tons of it

The mode changer is less than half a megabyte and only uses about 980kb of ram. Also, for music, Audio Creation mode with bit-matched playback enabled is the best thing to use. Preferably using winamp with an ASIO or kernel streaming output plugin.Message Edited by 003 on 05--2006 06:3 PM

  • Audio quality in adobe connectnow vs skype

can i improve the audio quality in afcs than skype?
if i am using adobe connectnow, the audio quality is lower than skype.
is there any way to improve?

The answer is simple... with Logic you have to know what you're doing as opposed to Garageband which does some of the work for you. Logic is a program (generally) designed for professionals, it assumes you know a little bit about EQ, Compressors, Limiters...etc.  If you don't, you need to learn if you wish to use Logic effectively. It also means you will need to study the ART of mixing, there's audio pros who say mixing can only be learned by doing it over and over and over....etc and listening to your mixes on as many different playback systems as possible.
Which version of Logic are you using? (important)
And what do you mean your CPU won't let you see the manual, the manual is online, if you have Safari you can see the manual.
Set Logic's master fader so your song never drives it over 0.0, but remember, louder is not necessarily better, first get a good mix/blend then worry about getting it louder.
Something else to consider, commercial recordings are mostly done using processing hardware that costs thousands of dollars. To compete with that you really have to know what you're doing.

  • A few questions - audio quality, and remote capability

    1) What is the audio quality of songs streamed from airplay?
    2) Is there any way to change the volume of a song using the iphone/ipad remote?
    Thanks!

    Hello..
Not sure about the actual specs of Airplay SQ.
Using the ATV2 to access your iTunes Library you must control the volume with the volume control of the device through which you have the audio routed.. ie TV or Stereo. There is no volume level on the ATV2 remote or in the interface of the ATV OS that I can see.
Using the ATV2 as a speaker for iTunes from your Mac or PC you can control the volume through iTunes on the Mac or PC.
Using the Remote App on iPhone 4 or other device you can control iTunes on your Mac or PC. In addition you can select the ATV2 as a speaker for iTunes directly from the Remote App and in turn have control of the volume from the iPhone 4.
I like the last way best. Easier to navigate library, make selections and control volume all from anywhere within range of your wifi connection.
