Audio question, probably incredibly simple
So I'm new to FCE (though not to editing - am a bit rusty) and all is going pretty well EXCEPT - having put an audio file from iTunes into my project, I now cannot figure out what to do to get it to actually play while I'm viewing the sequence. Can hear the audio when I drag the playhead back and forth, but I only get a barcode tone when playing the project back in the viewer. Do I need to render the audio or something? Thanks.
If you hear a beeping sound when playing the Timeline, it means that your audio clip doesn't match your Sequence settings. Typically this is from using MP3 files, which FCE does NOT work with natively.
You can render in FCE, but if you make changes afterward, you'll need to re-render. The best way to handles this is to convert the footage to AIFF format at 48khz, 16 bit PRIOR to importing into your FCE project so it will match the Sequence settings. This will completely eliminate the need to render the audio.

MSI x976 Power UP Edition Realtek Audio Question, probably a simple answer HELP!
I have the x975 Power up board and 6400 conroe, so far clocked at 2.8ghz. One hell of a processor, man they really meant it was going to be un upgrade from my [email protected] and it is. Anyway, I have a set of Klipsch Promedia 4.1's that I still love and enjoy. How do I utilize these speakers on the realtek hd audio card. I selected 4.1 on the setup screen and plugged the front channel into the green plug, and it works great. So where do I plug in the rear channel speakers, which color plug? I want just to listen to music playing through all 4 speakers, and the surround effect in games, obviously minus the center channel. I have a santa cruz, that does just what I need, but its dated technology and I really want to utilize the HD realtek if possible, its not like it will slow down the computer, haha.

If you are using Address Book, open it, create a new Group, select all you contacts by click the top one while holding down the shift key and then select the last one. Drag the contacts to the group, then send an e-mail to the group.

Probably super simple...ACL/VLANs
I have a VLAN 6 that is dedicated to a Partner organization (they share our bandwidth and schedule conference rooms with our Exchange).
Question is how do I configure ACLs to direct ALL traffic to and from Partner, exception of accessing our Outlook Web Access and DNS servers in VLAN 1, and our websites in VLAN 2 ?
This is probably super simple but I keep ending up with traffic going where I don't want it to. Thanks so much...
(And if anything else seems wacky about this setup, blame the last IT guy)What is the platform you are using??? ASA, router??

Probably a simple solution, but . . .
Hi there - There is probably a simple fix to this - and it probably doesn't even matter, but I'm curious. When I attach an exported file to an email, it is attaching as a picture of the document, rather than as an icon with the document's name. The thing is, it used to attach as the icon and not the actual document. I know it probably doesn't matter, but I liked it better when attaching the icon representing the doc. I've probably hit a button or flipped a switch I didn't know I hit or flipped, but where is it and how can I reset it? Thanks a lot!

I may not have understood the original question. The comment and action James has posted would relate to whether a file would View in Place as you compose -- it does not impact what is sent.
However, I thought you were describing the file Icon as having a Preview or Thumbnail, and not a full View in Place? If a file has a photo-like thumbnail, it is the result of the saving of the file, and not something in Mail.

Probably a simple SQL Query - Newbie
I want to select entries from a table that has 2 columns where the first column value is contained within the 2 column....Does that make sense?
The first is a varchar that contains a value for a customer. The second is a varchar that contains a a textual description of a problem the customer has. My problem is that I only want to select the entries in the table where the second column contains a description that includes the first column value.
eg. I want to select rows that have the following condition:
column1 has value of "customer1"
column2 has a value of "an error was reported by customer1 on service blah"
but not these
column1 has value of "customer1"
column2 has a value of "an error was reported by customer2 on service blah"
This is probably a simple question but I've spent time looking at how to do it and can't seem to manage...any help would be appreciated....ThanksHi Barbara,
I've never used the CONTAINS operator before. I compared the use in this situation to the other methods and found the others to be FAR less resource intensive, despite working on unindexed columns, as I demonstrate below.
It would seem that CONTAINS is unsuited to this type of simple query. Can you shed any light on this, from the perspective of somebody who has used it before? Is this type of performance penalty normal? If so, it could seem that CONTAINS is fairly useless next to LIKE.

Can't edit multiple tracks - plus 2 easy audio questions
I have a sequence with 1 video track and 6 stereo audio tracks. I set an in and an out point. The area on the clips in the timeline between the two edit points highlights, I hit delete. Normally, the tracks between the points should disappear as the two segments come together and form one great edit.
But all the tracks do not highlight and edit. The video track and stereo audio tracks 3+4 and 5+6 highlight and LIFT off. But audio tracks 1+2 do not highlight or edit. And the whole sequence doesn't close together where the edit should be.
Only way I have been able to overcome this is to use the razor blade tool, cut each track individually. Highlight them all, and then hit delete.
This didn't use to be the way. FCP used to edit through one track, 3 tracks or all tracks, no problem.
Two audio questions. How do you stop the waveforms from drawing onto the clips in the timeline, in order to speed up FCP?
How do you get the audio in captured clips to be a Stereo Pair, from the outset?

No. Should run fine. You get up into 6-12 audio tracks, FCP gets all moody and pouty.
But it depends on your system's capabilities and how well you have chosen your sequence settings.
Audio waveforms n FCP are a cruel joke compared to many other NLEs. Often easier to leave them off in the timeline, use the waveform in the Viewer and set markers for hooks in the audio tracks.

FR: Big yet incredibly simple improvement to Warp Stabilizer
I love the Warp Stabilizer effect in PP. It's great! But depending on the footage and the effect's settings, sometimes it can actually make things worse. This means that any time this effect is used, users must review of the results after the effect finishes analyzing the clip.
Here's the problem:
Analysis takes a long time, often far too long for a user to stop editing and wait to review the results. In my case, I keep editing, but often I forget where my stabilized clip for review is located. In a multicam sequence, where every video clip occupies the same track, there's little to no visual cues to remind me where the Stabilized clips are. Setting an in and/or out point as temporary markers can work if you have up to two Stabilized clips. But what if you just stabilized 5 clips, and you want to keep editing while they're being analyzed? How do you visually recognize which clips they are? All current solutions add work for the editor, such as moving stabilized clips up a track and then back down after approval of the effect's results, etc. If you have transitions between a Stabilized and an adjacent clip, or clips on a track above it, the situation gets worse.
Here's the (incredibly simple) solution:
Give us a visual color cue any time a clip has the Warp Stabilizer effect added to it! This could be done through a new user selectable color category in the Preferences window's 'Label Defaults' panel.
It's interesting to note that while 8 different colors can be set in the Label Colors tab, only 7 are currently used by PP in the Label Defaults tab, so setting a unique color to this new eighth item should be even easier to program.
Adobe, this would make a great little addition to your next PP update!

Adding effects is part of editing, or isn't it? In case you don't know, editors work differently. If I want to add effects as I do my cuts, what's wrong with that? The software should be intelligent and flexible enough to accommodate a user's workflow. And if it isn't, then it should be improved. If you're an advocate against this kind of progress and think users should adapt to and accept a programs limitations, rather than speak up, which version of Premiere are you using? 4.1?

Probably a simple solution to tweak a particle preset, please help
I am doing an effect for a friends video where a UFO is hanging in the air. I have tweaked the look of the 'Pulsing Laser Star' to what I want, however, the camera pans from the actors face to the light. I can't figure out how to already have it there. it's always births from nothing. I have tried setting the birthrate to 0 and the initial number up but that doesn't do it. I haven't used Motion all that much but I liked the look of this particle. Probably something simple. Can anyone offer any advice?

Probably a simple answer to a simple question
I used all of my hard earned money to enjoy this wonderful device sent down from heaven. Now after 33 hours of trying to make my very un-cooperative computer work with this thing I have a really simple problem to you but to me its like nuclear physics. (actually 2 things come to think of it) I finally imported all of my music into the itunes. I first put like 6 songs on the i-pod just to try it out. Now in i-tunes its very organized. I can search by song, artist, album etc. In the ipod I can only search by song, when I try to search by artist I only got one album name in the artist section out of the six songs??!! how do I make it nice and neat on the ipod? The other question is I would like to know how when I download audio from Limewire to set it so it goes right into my itunes library. PLEASE will someone help me. THANKS!!!
Ok my tags are labeled correctly. When I right click a particular song in I-tunes and then click on "get info" I check the song, artists, album etc titles and they are correct. So back to my original problem, Everything seems to be labeled and organized correctly in I-tunes. When I am trying to browse in the I-pod I cannot look up certain songs by artists... When the tags are labeled correctly in I-tunes.

Simple audio question (I think)
Thanks everyone for answering this question which I think is fairly simple. I have a new TV that I use as the monitor for my computer and connect my Itv to. Currently I have both the cable, my computer and ITV hooked up through HDMI. Whenever I switch between the different HDMI inputs I obviously do not continue getting the sound out from my ITV. The question is I would like to be able to leave my ITV running while it is playing music to my stereo and surf the internet with my computer output on the screen. I know I could obviously play Itunes on my computer however the ITV seems to have much better output quality. Anyone has a solution for this?

Not without some other device to feed audio through. Your tv will only play from one input at a time, when you switch to the input from your mac/pc, it will always cut off the audio from other inputs. -
Hopefully Simple Audio Question
I am doing a highlight film for a local high school and I have a question about the music. At the end of the game highlight sometimes the song is not completly over so I cut it to end it at the same time as the video. My question for you is how can I fade out just the last 5 seconds of the song and not fade out the whole song. I don't want it getting softer and softer through the song. I think you do it by cutting the last 5 or 10 sec. of the audio (song) and make it an independent clip then take that clip and fade it out. Will this work or not. Thanks. Also I am having a lot of trouble adding text to my video. Should I just do it in motion and not even mess with it in Final Cut. Thanks

then press p to change to the pen tool.
on your music track create an audio keyframe about 5 seconds before the end (just click on the line in the audio track using the pen tool)
create another audio keyframe at the end of the music, and drag this one down to the bottom of the track
... yaaa, you just created an audio fade
alternatively just apply a crossfade transition to the end of your audio track and make the crossfade last 5 seconds long -
I was wondering if there was anyway that I could use garageband as a sort of a synthesizer for my guitar, but not just to record it but to have the sound play in realtime along with the rest of my band, so we can play together. I don't have an interface for all my instruments yet so I can only plug in one instrument at a time. Sorry for the poor english, I'm just not sure on how to ask the question. (I don't know the lingo!)
Although more RAM is always a plus realtime FX are more dependent on cpu cycles. If your going to use your computer for this task you may want to make a account that is dedicated to GB or whatever you plan on using. Shut off as many background items as possible like bluetooth, airport, browsers, mail and whatever else your not using.
I personally don't use my Macs for effects I have a good collection of Guitars, amps and effect pedals, boards and a M-audio blackbox. I have used Amplitube before and was very impressed with it but I'm sure there are cheeper alternatives. Play with GB and see if you can get it to work for you first before investing any money in something else.
