Audio Quit Working
My audio has suddenly stopped working. It's got the most up-to-date driver installed, and it cannot find any issues when I troubleshoot. All screens show that the speakers are active, but there is no sound. They worked last night, but this morning they were not functioning. Any assistance on this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Go to the link below.Enter your Product Number as listed on Service Tag attached to bottom of notebook (may be under battery). You can also get the Product Number by pressing Fn + Esc key. I am running Captivate 4 on Windows XP. I have several projects that have audio on various slides. The audio works fine when previewing the project within Captivate. However, if I try to view it in a web browser or publish to the web, there is no audio. Two days ago this was working just fine and now I can't figure out why it has quit working. Seems like it would be something in the Publish settings, but I have tweaked all kinds of things in there to no avail. I have double checked that the play audio box is checked in the publish settings. I have also moved the Captivate file out of my Documents and Settings folder to re-set all the original preferences in case I accidentally changed something in there. Still not working... Any ideas...? Way over deadline on this project so this is very frustrating...

If a reset and/or restore the device does not resolve the issue, it's likely hardware related. Usually a sign of a damaged/faulty headphone jack. You can set up yoru iPod for service either through Apple or a 3rd party repair company who can do the job for a little less.
Otherwise, if you consider yourself handy with small electronics, you can shop for the replacement part and swap it out yourself using the guides over at this site to walk you through the process.

When I try to use the timeline portion of photoshop, I can't get the audio to work with my clips. I can get audio to work fine when using just audio, but the minute I try to add audio to a set of clips either photoshop quits working or it skips to the last clip in my show. I don't understand why this happens. I am using the same track each time. Very frustrating.

It has quit working with "liverez" which is my web based reservation program. The place I login is https://reservations.liverez.com/login.asp?LogOff=True&Return=Res but once I login, the site does not work as it did before. The website that corresponds with this doesn't look right now either. I can't even use my msn email account with firefox now. I have had to go back to using internet explorer. I have not even tried other sites with foxfire at this time. The other sites I use for work. Things that aren't working are that I can't click on things I need to click on, drop downs aren't showing up, pictures are absent, etc. It is all working fine on internet explorer and used to work on firefox until last night.
Thanks to some hints in several strings, I went back to the Control Panel in XP, clicked on Sounds and Devices, clicked on Audio, then changed the default device to the Realtek HD Audio output I have on my computer. Now I can hear You Tube video sound and other Internet audio fine, at least for now. I will come back if it stops again. Thanks to all who posted.

All of the the Windows Sidebar Apps have quit working
With the latest update today, all of my Sidebar gagdets have quit working. When I go to reinstall, I am asked what Firefox should do with them. Why? My gadgets are a windows thing.
I really have no idea what you are doing or what your signal routing looks like, nor do I know how experienced you are with audio software and signal routings in general. What I now think you mean is that you can't monitor your input properly, you cannot hear the signal of the mic? Is that right? Or how did you arrive to the conclusion that none of your plugins work on audio tracks? Have you actually put an audio file on your audio track?
If you want to hear your input +processed through Logics' plugins,+ you need to enable Software Monitoring - just add its button (with a 'muted speaker' icon) to the transport by rightclicking the transport and ticking *Software Monitoring* on the list. Button grey=off, button green with dot in it=on.
Of course the channel strip/track you receive the input on should also have an output selected, or you will never hear anything. -
Number pad on Mac Mini quit working
I have a computer lab of 22 Mac Mini's. The number pad on one of them has quit working, just the numbers. The function keys still work. I have swapped keyboards with other Mini's and the probelm does not follow the keyboard. I have tried both a Mac Pro and Kensington keyboard and both do the same thing. Any ideas how to dorrect this?

Premiere CS5 has quite working on my Mac--keeps crashing right after launch. Any brilliant ideas?
So Premiere CS5 worked for as long as I can rememebr on my Mac. It quit working shortly after updating the OS I believe. It starts up, gets to the workspace, the little rainbow wheel spins, then CRASH! I cannot even get to the help screen to try an update. I really would appreciate your help in figuring this out.

Audio stops working after a while (30+ minutes uptime with audio)
I'm having one hell of a time with the audio on my machine hope someone can help...
(edit: forgot to mention, installed packages: pulseaudio-alsa, pulseaudio-gconf and paprefs, using i3 WM and SDDM. Switching to i3 and SDDM are the biggest recent changes I made before this started, although I did pacman -Syu at some point around then too)
Here's what I'm experiencing:
Start up my machine, and usually watch some videos and play some video games.
After things have been running for a while (anywhere between 30 mins and a few hours) I'll quit my game, load up a different video, or do something else that involves quitting an application that plays audio.
From this point on, any new application that are opened (including new tabs in any web browser) will not play audio, even if other applications are currently playing audio.
I haven't been able to reproduce the issue reliably.
I've tried examining the output of "pacmd list", and I thought I had found some differences yesterday between when its working and when its not, bot today the output is different when audio isnt working than it was yesterday. (actually, I just checked again, and now it is the same as yesterday). I can post the output from when its working vs when its not working if that helps diagnose anything. The only differences that seemed significant is that there is a second module called "module-alsa-card" listed after the sound stops working, two new sources are listed for what I believe are my headphones and mic plugged in the rear panel, and a new card shows up which I think is the onboard audio. It almost seems like pulseaudio is taking over my soundcard when I stop using it, and in doing so prevents audio from playing.
There are a couple of times when it just started working again, without me doing anything at all. I'm really losing my mind over this, any advice is welcome!

Try the following.
Open windows Control Panel, open Windows Update, select 'View update history' in the left hand pane and then select 'Installed updates' link in the following window.
Locate update KB2962407, right click it and select Uninstall. When done, restart the notebook, open windows Control Panel, open Windows Update and select 'Check for updates'. You'll see the update you just uninstalled being offered again - right click and select 'Hide Update'.
After this you may or may not need to delete and reload the Audio driver - if you do, the procedure for using recovery manager to reinstall Software and Drivers is detailed in the document on the link below.

Audio chat works on one machine, but not on the other!
First up, my setup:
Comcast Cable Modem -> Linksys Router -> iMac (Core2Duo), PowerBook (G4), Vonage
Both systems running OS X 10.4.10. Both systems are connected through their Airport cards (ethernet cables are pulled) to the router.
To better debug the problem I turned the Firewall and LittleSnitch off on both systems.
The router's firewall is turned off as well.
Port forwarding is also checked, and the PowerBook is not even listed having any ports forwarded at all (that's the one iChat audio chat works).
There must be something blocking the iMac... but I can't seem to figure it out. Any help greatly appreciated!

[2]well, i updated the router (latest firmware is from april 2006!). rebooted the modem, then the router, restarted ichat. same problem unfortunately. however i found some geeky cool-aid on macosxhints. a shell script which configures the router to enable dmz, and another one to disable dmz. with a little shell script one should be able to enable dmz, start ichat. and upon quitting ichat disable dmz. not the best solution, but this will help me out...

Audio Recording Working Sporadically Since 4.5 Upgrade
The audio recording feature we've built into one of the activities on our educational website has been faultering since our recent upgrade to FMS4.5 .
We're using the "publish" feature of NetStream.
It seems to work fine for a while, then it stops working.
Has there been a change in the 4.5 update that may be the cause?
Is anyone else having this problem?

We're simply attaching audio that's incoming via the user's microphone to an instance of the NetStream class, which show up as .flv files in the application's "recordings" directory. Code snippet as follows:

It's worked without a hitch for three years, (and we get 10,000 visitors a day), but ever since we updated to FMS 4.5, it'll work fine for a day or two, then it suddenly stops recording the files. (No new files show up in the recordings directory).
One clue, in case it helps, is that when the problem arises and it quits working, the Flash Media Administration Console shows a huge number of Active Clients, (1000+). When it's working fine, that number is significantly smaller, (around 20). I'm wondering if it's failing to recognize when users have disconnected, thus accumulating and maxing out on Active Clients and crashing the application.

There is a red light constantly emitting from the headphone socket?
I can not listen to sound unless headphones are plugged in - when taken out I get a red light and the volume controls kets seem locked?

Seems to be quite a popular problem. In another post, I posted the following.
"The red light is the data signal that is transmitted if you plug in an Optical Audio device such as surround sound speakers. I had the same problem for a short while with my 17' MBP. Sound was working fine from my built in speakers but I plugged in some earphones to listen to something that I did not want the rest of the office to hear and after pulling the hearphones out, the optical signal (red light) was being transmitted. The switch Cessna is referring to is the switch that is triggered inside the port that tells OSX that earphones/optical audio device is plugged in and to shut down power to the built in speakers. When the device is un-plugged from that port, the switch should get triggered again and power up the built in speakers and disable the optical light signal. Perhaps there is the slightest defect on the earphones you are plugging in that are preventing it from triggering the switch when the earphones are un-plugged.
Try a different sent of earphones to maybe trigger the switch if you are uncomfortable with the paper clip solution."
That seemed to solve the problem for that user.
