Audio Recording, from Mic to computer

Good Peoples,
I thought that plugging a mic into the mini port on the computer would work for using and external mic. I switched from internal to external in under system preferences but nothing is picked up. The internal mic works. Anyone know about this?
Much Thanks,
Jackson

I had a similar problem with an external microphone that didn't need power supply. I checked the source on the sound of the system preferences, and whenever I had the microphone attached, no sound was being input, only sound picked up when I had the internal microphone selected.
This summer for a class project, I thought it was picking up sound while I was recording a movie, using iSight, and when i finished, all i had was the video with no audio. Then I had to re-do the class project.
Did your problem ever get resolved? If so, what did you end up doing to resolve it?

  • Is there an adaptor that can split the audio out from mic input?

    I'd like to use the iPhone on a mixer borad for conferencing.  I'm looking for an adaptor that will allow me to separate audio (out) from mic (in) on the iPhone.  Any ideas?

    Will this work for you?

  • Audio recorded from lavalier mic is not audible when printing to tape

    hello!
    i am very confused : ( i have an edited work with some audio recorded directly from the built-in camera mic, and most of the audio from a lavalier (lapel) mic. all the audio plays fine from the timeline, and from the "print to video" play back option, when the video playback is set to "none" or "preview"; however, when it is set to ntsc (which i believe i need in order to print it back onto a mini DV tape to submit it) only the audio recorded with the built-in camera mic is clear and audible. the other recorded sounds from the lav mic are very quiet (or silent) and have static noises.
    i have exported the timeline and burnt it to a dvd, and all the audio works fine. but i can not seem to print it to a tape without losing most of the audio.
    i have tried all different combinations of settings (audio to built in audio, or to firewire), etc etc and nothing seems to fix this problem.
    any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated! thanks : )

    You might try highlighting all the audio tracks
    then go to the MODIFY drop down - AUDIO - PAN CENTER.
    This should make sure all your audio tracks are audible.
    Also, I'm not in front of the interface right now,
    but if you go to FINAL CUT PRO drop down - AUDIO / VIDEO
    SETTINGS, somewhere in there (perhaps in a tab or at the bottom) is a drop down for PRINT TO VIDEO, and there are
    some settings there. Make sure it is including all your
    audio channels and not set up in some funky way.

  • Recording from mic, not sound card

    Hi there. Relatively new to Audition so trying to get my head around it!
    I'm using Adobe Audition 3.0 and i'm mucking about with it basically to get some experience for my uni project. I'm trying to compile and edit together a collection of audio clips from a number of web streams. I've done it before for a while on a different computer and it worked fine but i'm having trouble doing it right on this occasion.
    Basically, it's recording from my microphone rather than what's being played on the computer. I have no idea how to change this. Any help guys?

    I bet you've moved to a Vista or Windows 7 machine.
    Under pressure from the record companies, the ability to record the Stereo Mix output of you computer has been disabled or removed from many new computers.
    You may be lucky and find it's only been disabled on your machine.  If so, then do the following:
    To enable:
    ->> go to Control Panel
    ->> Hardware and Sound
    ->> Manage Audio devices
    ->> in the Recording tab window right click in the white area away from any devices and from the menu enable "Show Disabled Devices" and "Show disconnected devices"
    ->> right click on Stereo Mix to get the properties window and in Device usage "Use this device (enable)"
    However, there have been many reports in here (you can do a search) that some computer manufacturers are actually removing this ability entirely, again under pressure from the record companies.
    This being the case, you might try some software called Virtual Audio Cable:  http://software.muzychenko.net/eng/vac.htm
    You have to pay for it but at least there's a trial version so you can see if it works for you before laying out your money.

  • Recording from Mic Truncated

    Hi,
    I'm recording from a mic into a memory buffer. All works fine, except that it always cuts off the last second even though I believe I'm properly draining the target data line before closing it.
    I've tested with the AudioRecorder and SimpleAudioRecorder from the [url http://www.jsresources.org/examples/audio_playing_recording.html]JResources examples and a few other [url http://www.quadmore.com/swingrecorder/]examples out there. They seems to suffer from the same issue.
    Is this just a matter of some sort of latency when the recording is shut down?
    Here are the controlling methods for my recorder.
    public void startRecording()
       state_ = State.RUNNING;
       line_.start();
       thread_ = new Thread()
          public void run()
             recordLoop();
       thread_.start();
    private void recordLoop()
       while(state_ != State.STOPPED)
          int bytesRecorded = line_.read(block_, 0, blockSize_);
          if(bytesRecorded != 0)
             out_.write(block_, 0, bytesRecorded);
    public void stopRecording() throws Exception
       line_.stop();
       line_.drain();
       state_ = State.STOPPED;
       thread_.join();
    }I'm running jdk 1.6.0_22-b04 on Windows XP.
    Thanks for any ideas!!!

    I'd imagine the TDL drain should handle that, but if there's like a hardware buffer on the soundcard that Java just doesn't have permission to flush... then you'd have to handle that yourself as you have. If the soundcare or the OS is doing some real-time transcoding to give JavaSound data in the format it wants, for instance, there could be a hidden unflushable buffer...

    i have recorded thru the mike input from a cassette player and have had good results until today it starts recording and before the recording is finished it quits recording i have tried it several times and does the same thing each time it has never done this before help

    Has anyone been able to record sound in mp3 using
    java?
    Can you please post the code or send it to
    [email protected]?
    Thanks in advance for the help.As far as I know, Java doesn't support mp3 format directly.
    You'll have to capture the audio in some other format and
    then encode it to mp3. See http://www.tritonus.org/plugins.html
    for mp3 encoding.
    Here are few links to sites that explain the audio capture part

  • Recording from guitar to computer

    i'm new to logic, i just wanted to know what is the best way to connect your guitar to computer. What USB or any other device could you use to record with good quality. thanks.

    You should look for a decent audio interface (firewire or usb). There are several brands available. Depends on your budget of course. I've got the Presonus Firepod and used it daily. It features clean preamps and is good value for money.

  • Listening to Line In Audio/Recording from Vinyl

    I'm not sure where exactly to post this, but I'm guessing it is a software issue with OS X. I was just given an old record player (Miracord) and receiver (harmon/kardon 330c) and I've got it all hooked up correctly (or so I think, record player > receiver > Tape Out RCA > RCA to 1/8" jack cable > iMac Line In). Under "Sounds" in system pref it does show some volume being I play a record. I play a record and hit record in garageband and Audacity I hear nothing but it does record and on playback it sounds like it is supposed to. Why can't I hear the audio as it is played through the line in imput? Also any thoughts/tips on recording form vinyl on a mac would also be appreciated. Thanks.
    Dave

    Hi Derato!
    You are doing it the right way, as far as I can see, and exactly the same as I did getting some old family recordings on tape cassettes on to my hard disk for burning on a CD.
    In Audacity, did you click 'monitor input'? Otherwise you won't hear a thing!

  • Quarter-inch female to a 3.55mm male to connect guitar to my Ipod Touch 4th gen. It still records from mic and not from wire.

    Hey everyone, I recently bought a quarter-inch female to a 3.55mm male to connect my acoustic electric guitar to my Ipod Touch 4th gen. Now when I connect it, it doesn't actually take the sound from the wire, it still keeps the mic open. Any suggestions?

    You can try putting the iPod into Recovery Mode and restoring it:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808
    If that doesn't work, then sorry but the jailbreak may have permanently corrupted your iPod. Since we cannot help with jailbroken devices in these forums, you'll need to look elsewhere for additional suggestions and advice.

  • How To Recover corrupted Audio Recording from Word?

    I was recording a lecture and when I tried to end the recording my mac froze. I then restarted my mac and found 2 quicktime logo files in the trashcan which i promptly took out.  Problem is that they wouldn't play. I tried VLC, Audacity, Qucktime, Itunes, Real player (error 2048). I was about to gve up when I converted the file to an .mp3 and lo and behold 40 minutes is on there. I tried to pal it and it still doest play. IT's about 14.5 MB. I really need to fix this so any advice is greatly appreciated

    Actually Word froze not my mac. I restrrted because I heard that you can revoer your audio fili n the trashcan if you do that. I also checked the autorecovery, only the notes were there not the recording.

  • Sync different audio files from mics and cams

    Hey all,
    I recently recorded a performance using 2 cams and 2 microphones. Hence, I have 4 audio tracks of the same performance.
    Is there any function within Logic Pro X that allows me to quickly sync all these tracks, rather than moving them around until they match?
    Thanks!
    Z

    Export each track as a separate AIFF file.
    Open both tracks in AmadeusPro. Copy and paste into a new file with two tracks.
    Select one track and use Effects>Change Pitch and Speed. This will provide incremental adjustments till both waveforms match up. But remember, you need to adjust both pitch AND speed together to reproduce a mechanical speed difference.
    Once you have both tracks running in sync, use this opportunity to separate your two tracks into four by selecting Sound>Split Track. Now you have 4 separate tracks that are now in sync.
    Export each track as AIFF files and reimport back to GarageBand by dragging them onto the GarageBand timeline.
