Audio recording help needed

Is there a way to record audio from an external firewire device while recording the video from an isight camera? I'm creating online guitar lessons that would benifit greatly from a superior microphone rather than the isight camera mic.

Jazzer,
I don't think iMovie can deal with inputs from two different FireWire sources. Even if you try changing the sound input source in iMovie preferences it seems to have no effect.
Have you tried the iSight microphone?
I used it to do some voice over recording a while back and was very pleasantly surprised at it's quality.
Though the problem might be that the best placement for audio is not going to be the best for video.

    recording help needed. I'm a beginner, imac, logic express and helix board 12 firewire.
    I have recorded my daughter voice only ok, BUT when i import audio file to track 1 as backing track and my daughter is using headphones from the helixboard to sing to she does not record to track 2 when all in enabled.
    Should her headphone come from the imac and not the helix board

    Check the recording channel in the channel strip.
    It must be set the same as the audio interface channel.

  • LPX audio transpose help needed...

    So guys I noticed last night that anything that I turned into an apple loop I could transpose in the upper left drop down menu ( where quantize options are )
    But I cannot do this with audio I record in until it has been apple looped and reimported.
    Is there an option in recording pref's or anywhere that will allow you to record in a way that it codes the audio to be ready to transpose with out having to apple loop everything?
    Thanks!

    Audio recorded in the current Logic session, can follow tempo and can be transposed:

    Unfortunately, the manual wrongly states that Transposition and Follow Tempo are only for Apple Loops...

  • Flash project audio button help needed

    Hi,
    I am just learning Actionscript 3 and trying to create buttons that turn a previous sound off before they turn a new one on. Also I want a button on the front that turns all sound off if it is pressed. I have attached my files in a zip folder.
    The problem is all of my buttons which are inside movieclips just control the one sound. I have a couple more to do. I understand I will need an if statement but somehow I have to control all sounds and I don't quite get it.
    I would really love someone to point me in the right direction. I cannot find a tutorial anywhere and am going crazy.
    I look forward to someones reply,

I never had this problem while i was running previous versions on my old mac
    When i boot up logic it does say something that i've never seen before which could be the cause...' Project Manager database on disk has got wrong version. Rescanning required'.
    Any ideas?

    Hi,
    Try updating to 7.2.3
    As far as the Manager... try doing a new expanded scan, overnight. This will update the database.
    As far as the built in driver... you are selecting an INPUT.... and you expect it to change the OUTPUT??? Again, you are selecting an INPUT, while expecting the OUTPUT to change.
    The Built in drivers have only 1 output available, And in your case, that is working as expected. When you want to RECORD via either input, that is when you change the driver. You should have two choices : Mic, and Line.

  • Simple Sound Recording - Help needed

    Hi there
    Im wondering if this is possible and if so , does anbody know offhand where I can find a basic implementation of this typea thing...
    I simply need to be able to read in a wav file, then record it and give it a different name. I am just trying to get this basic functionality sorted, because I will be progressing on to reading in a file, runninig some DSP algorithm on it, and then needing to save it back out, so I elieve that I need to write it in chunks much the same as the SourceDataLine buffers the sound...err am i making sense?
    I have been trying to do this with TargetDataLine, and its just getting the better of me at the moment, I am able to read in the file and play it as normal, its just the recording it to an output file where I am failing.
    thanks a million
    conaill

    Do I get you right that you want to read a sound file into memory and then store it back to the hard disk? If this is the case, try this:
    int frameSizeInBytes;
    int bufferLengthInFrames = 32;
    int bufferLengthInBytes;
    byte[] data;
    int numBytesRead;
    BufferedReader mIn;
    AudioFormat format;
    ByteArrayInputStream bIn;
    AudioInputStream outStream;
    File o;
    int soundLength;
    soundLength = 1000;
    f = new File("infile.wav");
    inStream = AudioSystem.getAudioInputStream(f);
    format = inStream.getFormat();
    frameSizeInBytes = format.getFrameSize();
    bufferLengthInBytes = bufferLengthInFrames * frameSizeInBytes;
    data = new byte[soundLength];
    o = new File("outfile.wav");
    // read the sound data
    numBytesRead = inStream.read(data, 0, soundLength);
    inStream.close();
    // now write it back
    bIn = new ByteArrayInputStream(data);
    outStream = new AudioInputStream(bIn, format, soundLength);
    AudioSystem.write(outStream, AudioFileFormat.Type.WAVE, o);This reads only a portion of a file, you'll have to modifiy it.
    Hope this helps,

  • Basic Recording Help Needed!

    I am recording a song that consists of 3 tracks total. I have cut out the parts that are not needed while maintaining the position of the remaining sections. How do I record a final mix that is only one track? Or, how do I burn these tracks to a disc? Basically, I have the recording and editing process done, but now I need to place the music on a disc, or at least have it all saved as one track.
    THANKS!
    LMZ

    Well, I assume since you're in the Logic forum, you are using Logic on your project.
    What you're talking about is called bouncing. This means creating a 2-track mixdown (one track for the left, one for the right). Fortunately, this is easy: just go to File and choose "bounce". From there a window will open giving you several options. If you choose to bounce as AIFF, you can take the resulting file and burn it as an audio CD in Toast or iTunes. Or better yet, you can choose "burn" which will put your smash hit directly on a disc.
    See how easy that was? Now have a pancake.

  • .MTS Audio Files help needed

    I'm having a little trouble with editing.
    The footage I am editing are .MTS files. Both the audio and video.
    The video is playing fine (well, as best it can for my rubbish uni computers) but I am having trouble hearing the audio - and I'm getting lots of conforming errors.
    I read here that CS4 doesn't support .MTS audio files. If that's the case then why can I hear some of them and not the others?
    Should I be converting the audio into another format before editing? If so, then what's the best format to convert to, and how can I do it in a way that I don't have to strip the audio from the video (I want to keep them perfectly synced)
    Thanks in advance for your help,
    Nath

    Hi Bill,
    Thanks for your reply, that's an interesting article. The files I am editing are stored on an external hard drive - I tried deleting a few files on there to make some room (whilst I was in the editing suite) and it wouldn't let me delete them because it said I didn't have administrator permission - despite this being my own hard drive. Could that be causing a problem with conforming? Should I copy the files accross onto the internal drive? The scratch disks are set to the local D drive.
    Nath
    Ps: I've just downloaded a program which is converting the .MTS files into .MOV. I don't really want to do this as this will probably loose quality - but I'm trying everything! What would be the optimum file type to convert to?

  • Problem in Creating %rowtype records - Help Needed...

    Hi,
    I have created some base view called...

    when i am executing this package

    open rc for select eno,ename,mgr,sal from emp;
    x:=abc(rc,'EMP');
    end;
    error:

    invalid fetch arguments list error
    Please help me out how could i trigger the record type (rowtype) object based on the passing parameters (table name).
    Thanks in advance...

    Why are you dynamically changing the table the view selects from? This seems like you are asking for trouble by forcing objects that reference view Test to go invalid when you change it. What is the purpose of the BULK COLLECT within CALLPROC? The results that are returned into rc1 are lost once that inner procedure is finished.
    What you trying to accomplish?

  • Moving Clips - and how not to lose the audio? Help needed!

    Hi,
    I have used Premiere Pro 6.0 quite extensively over the years and have recently moved to Premiere Pro CS5.
    With Premiere Pro 6.0 I could move/drag clips on the time-line and their linked audio would move with them.  If I moved the video clip to another video track, say, above an existing clip, the audio would also move to a free audio track and not automically write over any existing audio.  This would allow me to easily reorder clips on the timeline by simply moving them around and using other video tracks as temporary storage locations... and not lose or write over any other existing audio.
    However in Premiere Pro CS5 if I do the same thing, the video will move to the other video track I move it to, but the audio will stay in the say audio track and will write-over any existing audio when the mouse button is released.  The only way around this I can find in the manual is to: (1) drag the video to the other video track, and (2) press and hold the <SHIFT> key, whilst, (3) draging the linked audio to another audio track to avoid existing audio from being over-written.
    My question:  Is there a configuation I can set in CS5 to allow moving/draging of clips to work like in Premiere Pro 6.0?  I have already messed up multiple times in CS5 by inadvertently over-writing existing audio.
    Your expert advice and recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
    THANKS IN ADVANCE.

    Harm,
    Your reply is not helpful.  Just so you know, I have read through the manual extensively and could not find an answer for my question.  AND that's why I brought my question here.
    Perhaps I missed something in the manual.  Would you mind re-reading my question and helping me if it is so easy?!
    This has been frustrating for me for the last three months and I thought I would come to this forum for some expert advice.  So far I have been told that CS5 is designed to be like this (does not answer my question), and now you tell me to look up the manual (again does not answer my question).
    I'm amazed by responses that miss the question entirely and give helpful suggestions like that!

  • Audio recording "failed," need to rescue the AIFF file

    I recorded a rather long audio file from the analog audio-in port of my Dual G5 in AIFF format (stereo, 16 bits) using the QuickTime Player. Upon clicking the "Stop Recording" button I got a message dialog "Recording Failed". I copied the file with the Finder before clicking OK, suspecting that QuickTime would delete the file upon clicking OK, which it did do. The copied file is 10.28 GB and contains 11 hr, 35 min, 2 sec of recorded material. Quicktime refuses to open the file, giving me the following message: Alert: QuickTime cannot open the file: "Audio 2 copy.mov" the movie contains an incorrect duration (-2014).
    Note that VLC opens the file, knows the exact duration of the audio tracks, and plays it back perfectly fine. I can even jump to different time points to continue playing.
    Is there a utility I can use to "repair" the file, so that QuickTime can open it? I hate to discard this file, since it is mostly intact.
    Dual 1.8 GHz PowerPC G5   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   3.5 GB DDR SDRAM

    Is this dotmac.info bob?
    MPEG Streamclip (free) may be able to repair the broken time code.
    You could also re-record the file using WireTap. Record while playing the file in VLC. Note: This is "live" recording so it would take a long time. Maybe record in smaller "chunks".

  • MSI P965 Platinum frontal audio connector help needed!

    Hi there guys,I recently brought a pc off craigslist and it came with this motherboard as described above.
    My problem is with the front panel audio connectors.
    The case of the computer is this one shown in this picture.
    http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/641/1304612874870.jpg/
    Inside this pc case it has the following connector pins
    1.SPK-R - white wire
    2.SPK-L - red wire
    3.GND - black wire
    4.MIC bias  - white wire
    5.GND - black wire
    6.MIC IN - red wire
    This motherboard comes with a JAUD1 and a JFP2.Can anyone tell me where to plug those pins in for my front audio connector to work?
    and I do have the manual.I think the problem is that the wires from the case is for AC97 but this pc is equipped with HD audio.
    Thank you all for reading.

    Your board is HD audio.
    JPF2 should be for switches and LEDs as I recall, so go into JAUD.
    Maybe this can help:

    http://img.techpowerup.org/100423/HD%20Pin%20out.jpg
    Some say that if you disable front panel jack sensing it may work, cause as you see from the diagram mic L/R and speaker L/R are on the same pins.
    Some people get it working, and some have lot of noise..probably depends on the design of front panels PCB.
    http://www.nitroware.net/index.php/editorials/67-articles/159-fix-broken-front-audio-ports.html
    Probably the best way is to switch to AC'97 compatibility mode in BIOS?
    http://www.ninjalane.com/images/lanpartyut-915p/bios_audio.jpg
    Thanks alot cronnin.That was very helpful.My only problem now is that the AC97 plugs from the case has two ground.
    Which one do I use and which one do I not plug in?
    Also,I read on the internet,that plugging in ac97 plugs to HD audio connectors might blow up the motherboard.s that true?

    Best Regards,
    Sridhar

    Hi, Sridhar,
    So, you want to display rows from t1 that come after the last row with action='Ignored', which means no output at all when the last row has action='Ignored'. (A row with a given id is considered to be "after" a row with a lower id. The row with the highest id is considered the "last" row.)
    Is that right?
    Here's one way:
    SELECT     *
    FROM     t1
    WHERE     id  > (
              SELECT  MAX (id)
              FROM     t1
              WHERE     action     = 'Ignored'
    ;This does not assume that id is consecutive integers.
    If id is not unique, what results do you want? There's a chance that the query above already does it; if not, it can probably be modified.
