Audio recording: MacBook VS MacBook Pro

So here I am.
Been reading a lot about the introduction of MacBook Pro/MacBook and I'm now really confused about which I should choose. I'm seeking for a notebook for live audio recording and the price gap between the MacBook and the MacBook Pro mystifies the hole thing.
MacBook is really tempting me since it's not that far by terms of caracteristics from the Pro. I don't really need a unique GPU since I don't really like playing games on computers. But I do use Photoshop and some graphic intensive applications and I would need room for eventual Photo/Video editing. Then, I was thinking of getting a MacBook 2 gHz (white) with 2 GB of RAM to allow some to the integrated chipset. Question 1 answered.
I've read a lot about the GLOSSY screen and I must say, I prefer the MATTE screen since it doesn't over-saturate and it isn't reflective. Though, I'm giving myself some time to hear feedback from people doing Photoshop work and having compared the results from what's on screen and what's actually printed (with a good quality printer). I'd also like to have feedback from people having worked with the MacBook outside or by a window with sunshine.
The whole issue is that the 2 gHz , 15 inch screen, 1 GB of RAM (1 dimm) MacBook Pro pro has a 227$ price difference with the MacBook 2 gHz (white) with 2 GB of RAM (CANADIAN PRICES). My budget is tight, so I want to be sure if paying that difference is worth it or I could be fully satisfied with a MacBook.
Thanks for the attention!

As long as graphic performance is not an issue (which shouldn't be for audio recording), you will be absolutely fine with the MacBook. There is no difference in spec between the 2GHz MB and the 2GHz MB Pro except for the graphics card (and hard drive speed). I use Logic Pro and Pro Tools LE extensively and have a MacBook on order. The only thing you may need is an external hard drive if you plan on running lots of tracks. You should be very happy with the MacBook unless you absolutely need the extra screen real estate or prefer the matte finish. I should be getting mine today and will report back on how I like the screen. Hope that helps!

wich one the best for Audio Recording using cubase and pro tools? MBP md102 or MBP md103? i often using a lot of VST too

Well, I've been trying this for a while. By my calculations, at this rate, installing all the applications one by one and trying to restore all the data manually will take me about six years. I would finished just in time for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
The main problem is, I don't know where all the bodies are buried. Just one example, I'm using Cornerstone for an svn client. I have working copies of multiple repositories on my computer. I really don't want to set them all up again, and I can't figure out where the Cornerstone preferences and all settings are stored. I couldn't find them in the Library anywhere.
    And that's just one case.
I haven't done much with my MacBook Pro yet, I think in retrospect the easiest course of action is to reinstall OS X as though it were new MacBook Pro, start from scratch, and use my Time Machine backup with the migration assistant and go from there.
And that's what I'm doing right now. I'm in the middle of reinstalling OS X.
Afterwords I'll use a clean app uninstaller application to get rid of all the applications that I'm not using. And I'll just hack away at directories that I know I haven't looked at for years, with the confidence that I have a backup both in Time Machine and in CCC and also on my iMac. That's three backups.
I would rather start out "light", but I can see it's just going to take forever and a day to get it done. Anyway, fortunately nothing is carved in stone, and I can always try again if I want to. But dealing with all the documents and all the applications one by one separately was just obviously going to take too much time.
I'll report back on my results. And I appreciate your suggestion.

  • Any Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter with audio for macbook pro mid 2009

connecting MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2009) to Hisense TV with audio?!?!!?
    hello everyone.
if anyone is familar with successfully getting the older macbook pros that dont support audio out to stream and preform digital audio on a TV or has any helpful information that will get me familiar with trying to successfully stream audio and visual. and can PLEASE HELP ME in any way to understand what they know and teach me how to solve my problem id really appreciate it.
i want to connect my MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2009) to my Hisense LED LCD TV, ModelNumber:40H3E  and getting digital audio sound from my TV as well as video, but have no clue on how or where to even start to successfully pairing the two and getting sound.
I own a MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2009) this MacBook model doesnt support an HDMI port. My MacBooks model has the Mini Displayport which supports video out but does not support audio out. Can someone help me by telling me exactly which Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter with audio will support my model MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2009) and exactly what HDMI wire do i need to buy that will successfully preform digital audio and sadisfying quality visual through TV?
i have NO expierence with the proccess have NO knowledge about any of this or these Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapters with audio. i have no idea what kind of adapter and HDMI cord to buy that will give me sound from my tv for my type of macbook. '
im not familar AT ALL with any of this so i hope me giving you my MacBook Pros make and model and my TV's model number will be enough information for someone to help me.
just please give me anything you can on this topic
    thank you so much,

With a 2009 MacBook Pro, you need to use two connections to your TV: one for video and another one for audio.  The miniDisplayPort on the 2009 models does not support audio, so you need a separate audio cable:
miniDisplayPort adapter for video - I use the Apple miniDisplayport-DVI adapter + a DVI-HDMI cable like this one
audio cable for audio - use a 3.5mm male stereo-to-2xRCA male cable like this one
Connect the miniDisplayport adapter + DVI/HDMI cable to your MacBook Pro's miniDisplayPort output and the HDMI input on your TV
Connect the audio cable to your MacBook Pro's audio out and your TV's audio in
The only potential gotcha is if your Hisense TV requires audio via the HDMI cable when you use an HDMI cable.  The H3e user manual is unclear about this.

  • How do i xfer audio from macbook pro to ipad via usb

I have some audio loaded onto my MacBook Pro and my wife would like them on her iPad. I have read the iPad user guide, but the menus it discusses do not appear on my iTunes. I have loaded the compatible version of iTunes to my MacBook.

    Nice try. Really. Thanks.
    I have version 11.0.1 (12)
The only button in the upper right corner is the iTunes store button.
I looked at the link you furnished, and saw the iPad button to which you refer.
The copy of the 11.0.1  I have does not show the iPad button.
I then selected show sidebar, no help either.
It shows library, store, genius, and playlists.
    No iPad.
The real issue is that I was able to transfer some songs to the iPad a week or so ago. I thought that I had merely forgotten how.
When I first tried to transfer that time I received the message that I needed to download a more recent version of iTunes. I did that, and, voila, I was able to transfer the songs. I just don't remember how. Obviously something has changed since then and I can't imagine what it is.
Thanks for the effort. Do you have any other suggestions? I am willing to listen.

  • How do I get audio from MacBook Pro to Samsung monitor?

MacBook Pro - I've just bought an S27b550V Samsung monitor to connect to the MacBook Pro but even with hdmi adaptor and usb connection can only get video. I set sound control to recognise the usb output but still nothing but a faint muted sound from the monitor. How do I get audio to work?

I don't think that a USB connection is going to do anything - as you've a Mac with a Mini DisplayPort that, I don't believe, will carry audio over HDMI, you'd need to use the 3.5-mm analog/optical combo jack optical jack to get video to your Samsung monitor.

  • No audio on macbook pro 13 mid 2010

My macbook pro crashed and suddnenly the audio doesn't seem to play through the speakers or the audio jack.
I tried resetting the NVRAM but still doesnt solve the issue and also tried the sound preferences.
    Any help?

    MIght be corruped preferences ...
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy / paste:   ~/Library/Preferences
Move the    com.apple.soundpref.plist    file from the Preferences folder to the Trash.
See if that made a difference...

  • Stream audio from macbook pro to tv

I'm using a MacBook Pro 8.2 and want to stream video to à Sony Bravia TV. I've connected them with à cable from the Thunderbolt port to the HDMI port on the TV. I get the video images but no sound. Is there à way to do this or do I need à separate audio cable?

There is great risk of confusion since I am seeing the words in Swedish and it is sometimes difficult to tell what the translation should be, but here goes:
In the System Report there is only one topic with the word sound: "Sound (built-in)"
Under that topic it says "Intel HD Sound" and I can choose a nummer of options, but only one for "Speakers" and it says "Connection: internal"
There is also an option for "HDMI/DisplayPort" which says "Connection: screen" (or monitor)

  • Cannot play audio from macbook pro 2009 to tv using hdmi with adapter

MacBook Pro 2009. I cannot get audio from my my macbook pro to tv using an hdmi adapter

That is because the 2009 MBP does not support audio via the minidisplay port.  You will have to tap the audio output port for audio and use the RCA audio input connections on the TV.
    Ciao.

  • FaceTime Audio for Macbook Pro?

    Loading...
Hi, Does FaceTime Audio exist on a Macbook Pro? if the answer is no? Then would minimising FaceTime Video when use give me and the person on the other end the same bandwidth usage as FaceTime Audio? i ask this due to my friends ISP in Yemen being capped!
    Thanks

Hello Antron. My only suggestion would be to ensure that all bluetooth devices are removed including any link to the isight and then reconnect the isight so that it is the only external source of audio.
    I hope this helps.
    regards,

  • Audio in and Audio out - MacBook Pro

    Hello!
I'm interested in purchasing a MacBook Pro mainly for music production (I'm kinda new to the whole DJing scene) and I noticed a small difference between the 13' and 15' models. The 15' model includes a separate Audio in and Audio out while the 13' has only one Audio in/out exit. Does anyone knows what's the difference between the two? What can I do with a separate Audio in and Audio out exits like in the 15' model? Is it worth paying the extra $700?
    Thanks in advance!

Yes it is, the 13" is rather lacking on a lot of things, including the video card.
Mac's have optical audio in/out ports in the stereo mini ports, which produce clearly audiophile level music.
If you want to impress people, marry a 2.2 Ghz 15" or better MBP to a quality receiver and speakers with a optical Toslink adapter and cable and you'll "WOW!" them for sure. Hear the full quality of iTunes music you have been paying for and listening on crappy iPods and their cheap headphones.
    http://www.amazon.com/Toslink-To-Optical-Mini-Adapter/dp/B0002MQGRM
And you can do a lot more with that 2.2 Ghz 15"   (psst: get the anti-glare high res screen)

  • Windows 7 RC Build 7100: No Audio on MacBook Pro 1,1 (Core Duo)

On Thursday, I installed the brand new Windows 7 RC Build 7100 on my MacBook Pro 1,1 (Core Duo). This version of Windows seems to be zippy and far more polished than Vista: boot time is much, much faster. So my main problem is this: I can't get sound to work at all. In the Device Manager, the audio device is banged out and shows as a "High Definition Audio Device" rather than AC'97 or whatever it's supposed to be. If I check the properties, under status it says, "The device cannot start. (Code 10)". I've tried to installing the drivers from RealTek about a zillion times, the Boot Camp drivers from the Leopard install disc and I've run all the little setup programs as Administrator and in Vista compatibility mode, but no luck. Has anyone else had any luck in getting the Windows 7 (7100) to run on an early model MacBook Pro with working audio? Thanks!

Can't speak for MacBook, but for the desktop Mac Pro, the audio issue with Windows 7 install on boot camp is a known issue. You probably need to install the Realtek driver from your leopard install disk. It worked for me. Fixed the audio in about 5 minutes.
    Try this:
    while running windows 7
Insert 10.5.4 or later Leopard disk
    Go to Boot camp folder
Locate the Realtek driver .exe file
Run it, it's an installer file
    Restart.
Fixed my problem, similar to yours.

  • Sound/audio quality Macbook Pro using Skype

My wife uses skype a lot to make foreign calls. For that reason we bought a Macbook Pro (MBP) so that she could use it wireless in the house.
We got complaints from the people we call that the sound quality of the Macbook Pro is very bad. First of all the sound is very distant and on top of that the sound seems to go up and down in volume. We use the internal microphone of the MBP.
When trying with an external (USB) microphone the quality doesn't improve while using the same microphone on my G5 the quality is perfect.
I also tried in Audio/Midi settings to set the quality of the input device (the internal microphone) to 44.1khz instead of 48.1khz since Skype might not work correctly with a higher sample rate. No result.
Does anybody have the same experience, or better, a solution to the problem?

you're using SKYPE what do you expect for free?
Go into your sound options in your system preferences and check out your microphone settings, and maybe increase them.
You may also want to try a bluetooth headset, or a direct plug (non USB) 2.5mm mic.
Due to the update to Intel, communication between Apples and SOME USB devices have been less reliable (Products made specifically for PCs for instance like a "Pocket PC")... this may be the problem to your USB issue and would be solved with better driver support or an OSx update.
And again, I'll mention... you're using Skype... what do you expect for free?!?!

  • Stream Bluetooth Audio to Macbook Pro

    Hey All,
Hopefully one or more of the mac faithful on here can help me accomplish what I'm looking to do. I need to get this up and running by next weekend so time is of the essence!
Essentially, I want to transmit audio from my home stereo receiver (I have a Bluetooth audio transmitter hooked up for this purpose but it's designed to stream to bluetooth A2DP headphones) to my macbook pro and have it play on my macbook pro.
The macbook pro model i have is this one: MacBook Pro (Late 2007, 2.4/2.2GHz) - Technical Specifications, and i don't have any additional audio or bluetooth software other than what came stock with the computer.
    TIA!

I got that to work... by running Windows XP in VMWare, using an external bluetooth adapter, and installing the WIDCOMM software from Broadcom. I would very much like this functionality in OS X too, since Im regularly connecting my MBP to my stereo, and I have an Android phone with no built-in AirPlay support.
It would be perfect if I could select an A2DP source as audio input in the Sounds preferences pane..
