Audio recording on a MIDI track???

I have a midi drum track (software instrument track, Ultrabeat). I'm not sure how I did it, but apparently I recorded some audio on it as well, I probably recorded an audio track and had this track record enabled - still it's weird that to me to have audio contents in a midi track.
There is no audio region that shows up in the arrange mode.
How do I get rid of it?
Thanks.

I'm not sure what you mean by that,
maybe you have the Ultrabeat's sequencer on and when you press play in Logic the sequence you created in UB starts playing before the MIDI Region you have in the Arrange and that's confusing somehow.
It happens
I'll check your screenshot when you upload it later on

  • How can I do a simple MIDI track (no virtual instrument)?

I'm having the hardest time trying to figure out how to do a simple MIDI recording. So far as I can tell, I can only record MIDI data if I select a virtual instrument for the MIDI track. When I used to use Cubase, I could just record the straight MIDI signal without having to select an "output" for it, and then load up whatever instrument I wanted to use later. Can I do that with Logic 9? I record some MIDI stuff live, and I'd like to not have to bog down my machine with running live virtual instruments.
Mainly what I'm doing is recording the MIDI data of a set of VDrums, so that when I get to mixing later on, I can trash the crappy v-drum sounds and use DFH Superior for my drums.
Much thanks for any advice ahead of time!

Cool. I'll check this out and see if it's that easy for me. i feel like I tried that, but it wouldn't show any signal until I inserted a virtual instrument. I'll try again and make sure I do it right.
What we're doing while playing live is using the Roland Vdrum sounds live (and recording the vdrum sounds themselves, as well), and also recording the MIDI data to a MIDI track. Later during mixing, I'll mute all the vdrum audio and pipe the MIDI track through DFH Sup. I have a v-drum preset I can then apply so that the MIDI data will trigger the software correctly. In the studio, I use DFH and listen to it during recording.

  • How do you record an external Midi Instrument + Software instrument track down to a combined Audio track ?

I have two piano sounds I'm trying to blend into one. One is an external MIDI module set up as an external instrument within Logic and the other is a software plugin instrument (Ivory II). I'm trying to record the blended pianos into a single audio track so I can ditch the midi track and more so the CPU intense software Instrument track (it's killing my setup....). For the life of me I can't figure out how to assign both these entities as inputs and get them to record simultaneosuly onto an audio track.
My setup is a Presonus Studiolive 16.4.2 with the following assignments:
The external MIDI module's audio output is routed stereo directly into channel strips 9 and 10. By default the firewire output of this channel strip is returned to firewire outputs 9-10 on the studiolive, but this really doesn't matter since recorded audio is being monitored thru the main output buss assigned to channels 17 and 18.
My software plugin (Ivory II) is routed to output channels 17 and 18 which is the default setting for routing the output to the master buss for the Presonus.
On my audio track that's setup in Logic I can assign the inputs to 9 and 10 and I get the external midi module's output to record, but I cannot find any way to get the software instruments output into this mix because there is no input assignment for this.
Is there any way to combine these two entities and assign them to record onto a single audio track or am I missing something here? If there's no simple way to do this, can somebody offer any tip or ideas on how to accomplish the same thing here. I really need to ditch the software plugin. My setup only seems to be able to handle one plug in at a time on the software instrument side. Not sure why that is because my setup is not that old and the memory on my MBP is maxed out at 4GB....but that's another topic of discussion
Any suggenstions would be much appreciated...

    Thanks for the reply....
I actually tried freezing the software instrument track and that had little if no effect on CPU. I then read in the book or somewhere that the freeze function really only works on effect plugins. Don't know if that's true in all cases, but that seems to be what's happening.  Still would like to combine these tracks and I'm guessing I'm going to have to get creative with bussing or subgroups to make this happen. Unfortunately I think the fact that my Presonus board has hardmapped output routings for all the inputs makes that difficult, but haven't actually tried yet. I'm thinking if I can reroute the midi modules audio output input into the Presonus to a subgroup and then route the software instrument plug in to the same subgroup that I can then mix/capture this and hopefully route the audio's input to the subgroup to pick up the mix.
Does this make sense to anybody reading this?
We'll see and I'll post the results if it works....
    thanks...b

  • Audio track recording with 2 MIDI devices on Channel Spitter

I now have a turn table set running through XLR cables into an M-Audio interface, and than into a USB Hub which runs into the MacG5.
I've got the Channel Splitter Track hooked up, and I am now tryin to record 2 MIDI Devices and an Audio track (from turntables) at the same time. Is this possible ?
I've gone into the Audio Drivers and Hardware window and messed around but with no success. Do you have any advice for me ?
I am very new to this so step by step would help alot. Thankyou.

I've tried that, and what happens is the Instr track is picked up and recorded but I'm getting nothing from the audio track.
It seems that the Logic wants to read the devices one at a time. Meaning, I can get it to read the audio interface but not the Midi, or the Midi and no audio. It will not read both at the same time. ( when Logic is picking up the audio interface I can see that it's getting a signal from my midi devices but I'm getting no sound, and nothing is being recorded from the midi devices).
I have a feeling that I've done something wrong in the Audio Hardware and Drivers window.
Thankyou again for your time, I'm detirmined to learn this system. You've been a big help.

  • Logic Pro when recording audio and midi takes, the regions sometimes become confused. The midi tracks line up with audio tracks.

When recording midi and audio tracks simutaneously the midi tracks don't always line up with the software instrument channel. They may show up on the audio track. Sometimes they appear white instead of the normal green. Any suggestions?

    Hey there jlholm,
It sounds like you are seeing some unexpected behavior when you are working on your project. I would use troubleshooting steps 6-10 from the following article named:

  • No output from recorded audio tracks, only midi tracks..please help

I've been working on a song in Garageband and suddenly lost audio from real instruments and can only hear the midi from last night until today.  It consists of 3 midi tracks and 9 audio tracks.  I have software plugins or FX on almost all 9 tracks with amplitube or similar.  Things are slow as the arrow is red at the top, however last night I was able to still make changes - slowly.  I was able to do a mixdown and export to mp3.  Then I shut the computer down.  Today I open up Garageband and can only hear the midi tracks of my song however other songs I have work totally fine.  Nothing is muted and I've checked everything.  Levels meters are moving on all the tracks, I can just feintly hear one guitar track.  This is frustrating. I even tried locking half of the tracks and still nothing.  I've rebooted etc and same
I'm running Lion with a TC Konnekt 8 sound module, on a 2.4 core duo 2 MBP with 4 GB of ram

I ran onyx and did a clean up etc then rebooted, loaded GB and same problems.  I turned on the ducking thing, everything looked ok and then once I hit play everything worked again.  I've turned off ducking and it still works.  Could this be a glitch as I've never enabled it before

  • HT2375 Logic Pro 9 is playing back recorded audio tracks ahead of MIDI tracks

When recording audio all of a sudden, my playback of any recording is faster than the MIDI recording.   My software instruments are on time, but audio or guitar play through audio is always just a step ahead when recorded through live input monitoring.   I've reinstalled Logic Pro to try and fix it, and no change.  Any ideas?

Hello there is no problem in audio recording delay
just check your pref ........ midi ......... sync ...... delay ( 0.0 ) ( Reset once again change the value and return it to zero ( 0 ) )
and please on the software monitoring .....

  • How do I bounce audio and midi tracks at the same time to burn a CD?

    Hi there,
I would like to bounce a song with both audio and midi tracks recorded in it onto a CD.
Despite ensuring that I am doing a realtime bounce (not offline) I am only getting the audio tracks burnt onto the CD - the midi isn't getting bounced to the final output.
This must be a stupid question, if someone would be so kind as to give me an obvious answer I would be most grateful.
    Thankin y'all
    amata

    Hi A,
if you use the instrument (with logic virtual synths) tracks for midi,
    it will.
BTW, why don't you do it offline?
It will be so much faster.
    Kindly regards,
    Jorge

  • Syncing audio&midi tracks that vary from take to take in the same project

    Sorry
I'm sure this issue is buried somewhere else but I couldn't find it.
I was recording live with a guitar player. He's audio and I'm midi(piano).
I used a separate track for each take.
The first two takes we turned off the click . On the third we tried it with the click and adjusted the tempo. Now takes 1&2 are out of sync.
I called Apple Pro care and he said there is no memory of the original tempo stored on the audio track so I should write this down. I suppose the best place would be to name the tracks something like this.
    Audio 1 120
    Audio 2 130
    midi 1 120
    midi 2 130
I tried to write the question so in the future searchers with the same problem might find this thread easily.
Please post any suggestions or useful links for working with this issue.
    ---thanks

Your method of naming takes with the tempo is a good one. Another aproach to this type ol live recording is to simply record your piano as audio, just like the way you record the guitar. If you don't make a note of the tempos, you'll have trouble editing on the grid, or doing further production with a click (both doable, just extra work involved) but your audio tracks will remain in sync with each other.

  • No audio generated from MIDI tracks, though Stereo track is armed

I know that I need to make a stereo track before exporting my MIDI patches as an audio file. However, when I tried to record the audio track (and yes, it's armed), there are no sound waves generated from the instrument patches.
I'm connecting an external MIDI synth (USB to host device) and am also using 1/4 in. audio output cables on the synth, with the 1/8 in. jack connected to my MacBook Pro's microphone plug.
    Here's more info:
    Software: Logic X Pro
    Synth: Yamaha MO8
The Yamaha MO8 is recognized on the Audio MIDI Setup.

I'm also hearing the click track echoing on every beat. And that's all the stereo audio track will record. How do I stop it, so that the stereo audio track will record my MIDI tracks?

  • Audio recording also recording midi mute events. How to remove

    Greetings...
I new to Logic, recent convert from Cubase. Anyway I have an odd problem. When I record a stereo audio track and Logic seems to be recording Midi control data events as well. To be specific I have a Tranzport controller that I use to start and stop, mute record etc. Anyway I have an audio track that sets the mute when I start playback, all by itself. Then after a bit it turns off the mute. Seems to be midi commands that were captured as part of the control track that associates with the audio track.
Anyway my problem is that I can't find where this midi mute even is stored in the project. I just want to remove it but I'm at a loss as to where it is stored. I had a control track that I found and removed that and it seemed to take out most of the midi control events but not all of them.
Sorry if my terminology isn't quite Logic but as I said I've come from a different environment.
Anyway I hope this makes sense enough to have one of you point me in the right direction.
All in all I'm really enjoying Logic Express!!
    --Bryan

    Hi...
I checked the automation display and it shows 0db throughout so that is not what is muting the output.
However you said "In the midi track did you search in the Even List Editor". Well that is kind of my problem. I don't have a midi track. Only audio takes in a region. When I play back the region the output starts muted (mute light on) then the mute goes off (light off sound on) for a measure and then mutes again for another two measures. Then mute goes off again and the recorded music plays back normally from that point on. This is why I think Logic has captured my control surfaces Midi mute events. I had one take where I pressed the mute button on my Tranzport a couple of times at the start of the recording. These events are captured and repeat each time I play back the recording. I just can't find where those events are stored. The event list only shows the Comp and two takes, no midi control events.
I hope my description makes sense. I'll keep looking. The midi data must be somewhere in there, it's just sitting there laughing at me.
    Thanks..

  • Monitoring and recording problem with midi vs audio firewire

I'm trying to record my Roland synth via Inspire firewire box into Logic express. I'm able to record and monitor thru the output of the inspire box. However If I'm using firewire, I can't hear other midi file tracks and vice versa. I keep switching input and output sources in the control settings but it seems like I either have to use all midi tracks or all audio tracks. Same situation with playback. I know this is wrong but am totally stumped. Any advice would by awesome.

Dave, You might need an external DAW to do this, I got it working and I'm an idiot. There is only one I/O for logic and if you use it for the audio recording it's not available for the sounds you want to have coming out of logic. I have Roland Edirol UA-25USB2 and it works like a charm, If I understand what I did correctly, the sound and MIDI messages are routed via an Aggregate Device in the audio/MIDI set-up [you configure the device in the audio half] to the Edirol, and there are many extra functions to choose from-I avoid the 3.5mm audio out headphone plug by routing audio out through the DAW Edirol-much better sound quality than the mini stereo jack.

  • Automatic MIDI track record engaging.. is there a way to toggle?

I'm talking about how a midi track goes into record once its selected and it receives midi info.
Is there a way of turning this 'feature' off?? I would like total control over whether or not I'm going into record... There's a keystroke I don't mind making.

If you put the arpeggiator between the keyboard (Input Notes object) and the Sequencer Input on the Clicks and Ports layer of the environment it will record when you put your software instrument track into record.

  • How to record multiple midi channel data to multiple midi tracks in Logic?

    Dear All,
I have an electric organ from Yamaha, and it has 3 keyboards, upper keyboard, lower keyboard, and pedal keyboard. They are all running in different midi channels:
i.e. upper keyboard: midi channel 1
    lower keyboard: midi channel 2
    pedal keyboard: midi channel 3
When I try to create 3 midi tracks in Logic to listen to the 3 keyboards, I found that their midi signal just mixed together. Meaning, all 3 midi tracks can listen to all 3 keyboards...
Please noted that I am using a single USB Midi interface (1-in, 1-out) to connect the electric organ with macbook.
Can someone give me a help here? I suppose I can setup 3 midi tracks in logic to listen to 3 keyboards signal separately.
    Thanks,
    Eric

I had a similar situation when I first got LS and received this useful reply from Apple-
in Settings>Recording, check the box for "Auto demix by channel if multitrack recording".
Be aware that the Settings are song specific, compared to Preferences, which apply
to all songs. Set your controllers to send on specific MIDI channels and set the same channels in the inspector of your tracks.
I have a 2x2 midisport however, so I don't know if you will have an issue because you have only 1 I/O.
If so, you might have to learn about 'Multi instruments", I haven't had the need.
Yes, this is correct. We have two recording stations with ESI M4U 4x4 midi interfaces. We are recording 4 instruments at the same time and they all send their data on a different channel. I created midi instruments for all of them in Environment just to have them more easily available in the Arrange window. Also make sure you have the correct midi channel set per track in Logic.
When the option to "auto demix by channel" is set and you are recording, it may seem that Logic is recording only on one channel (only one region being created). But as soon as you hit stop, it will expand to multiple channels.
