Audio Recording Software

Hey all,
I'm going to my first University lecture today (ahh!) and I'm wondering if there is some extrodinary piece of software for recording using the built-in microphone.
I found some software called "Audio Recorder 3.0" from a quick Google, but I would like some reccomendations as well.
My only desire is that I can put the computer to sleep and have the app running at the same time (I've done so with video - the sound keeps playing but the computer is sleeping).
Thanks a lot!

Hi yulichi
Audio recorder is what I recommend. It's free, it's simple, it's reliable, and nothing's better.
"My only desire is that I can put the computer to sleep and have the app running at the same time (I've done so with video - the sound keeps playing but the computer is sleeping"
This is not possible for sound, video or anything else. When your Mac sleeps it sleeps: It can't do anything else at the same time. You can by all means put your display to sleep; go into System Preferences > Energy Saver

  • Is Logic Pro the Best Audio Recording Software for Mac?

Couple questions. I do a lot of audio production and work currently. I use a gateway with Cubase, and its not bad, but I feel like I need something mroe high end.
I'm looking at the 17 inch Imac. Does anyone record using this computer? How's it sound? Is there any way to put in a new soundcard or something if i don't like the current one?
Secondly, is logic pro the most advanced and best audio recording software for the mac? Are there others as well?
I know about Pro Tools, but it seems like there isn't anything high end enough that is TOO high end.
Does the Pro version have superior mixing capabilties. I am primarily going to be micing a guitar amp and having a mixer run into a firewire port, and also using a preamp for my guitar direct into the computers USB.
Lastly, how are the mixing features on Logic Pro vs. Logic Express? I do a lot of post production mixing as well, and use VST plugins. Speaking of that, will it accomodate using a drum program like BFD through VST or Midi like Cubase will?
    Thanks for your time guys.

Yes, you do indeed need sth more high end.

It's not an iMac, but a faithful PowerBook G4 that I am using. Apples Core Audio is awesome. Your sound, however, will depend on your interface.

That's why we are here, and that's why you ended up in this forum as well
To me personally, Logic sounds warmer and bigger than any ProTools system I've ever heard. From what yopu described as the work you need to do, there is no comparable application. Logic also offers you many more features above and beyond what you currently need to do.
I know about Pro Tools, but it seems like there isn't

Everybody is using PT, and you should maybe get a Light Edition version of it. However, as stated above, Logic offers by far more possibilities.

For your purpose, Logic does have superior mixing capabilities. In my humble opinion, only the popularity of PT made it become the choice of studios and engineers, but things are turning...

If you do post production mixing, forget about Logic Express altogether and go for Logic Pro. LP will accomodate tons of plug-ins, and it comes with a bunch of great one's as well!
The format for the plug-ins is called A(udio) U(nit) and works flawlessly. Many VST plug-ins are also available in AU format and the development of those is moving fast forward.
In other words, yes, you will be able to use BFD in Logic by means of the AU format.
    Thanks for your time guys.
    You're welcome.

  • Samson C01U USB mic/audio recording software.

whats small, free, and reliable audio recording software? on Mac OS X.10.4.5
On XP I like adobe audition, and cool edit pro2
Im having hard time getting Samson C01U USB Studio Condenser Mic to record on my emac ,on audacity
    http://www.samsontech.com/

Cubase LE is good, but Garageband, part of the iLife 06 suite is nice. I recorded a vocal trio to backing tracks and mixed it down to CD using only the effects provided in the program.
Like any software recording system, the more effects you add the more processing power you're using up, but garageband works real well.
I used the Presonus Firepod as an interface, worked fine. Any interface box will work.
If you're only doing a single audio input for a podcast, then Quicktime pro is good. It's not free, but for 30+ bucks it's worth the investment.
    I've used a piece of Shareware.... D-SoundPro
you can google search it. Nice stand alone piece of software, does some amazing things with audio for a shareware product.
    Hope this helps.

  • Internal audio recording software?

Anyone know a software I can use to record internal audio?
    thanks.

    Michael has it.
Audacity is the recorder, Soundflower is the translator to get the audio stream into Audacity.
Soundflower is not needed when recording from external sources (line in).

  • Audio Recording Software. Quicktime Pro?

Good day to you. I'm just curious about something.
I've been looking for an cost-effective way to record audio on my PC.
Does QuickTime Pro allow you to record audio using a microphone that's plugged into your computer?
Oh, I should also mention I do not have an Apple computer. I run a custom built Win7 PC.
Thank you very much for your time and reponse!

Very cool. Thank you very much.
While I'm at it, I'm not planning on like a podcast or anything but, is there a good mic you would reccomend? If any? Or would any run of the mill Logitech headset w/ mic would be sufficient?

  • Recording software

Please, someone... what is a good audio recording software to use on an intel MacBook with a Firepod?
And don't say GarageBand, please... GarageBand is cute and all, but I want something a bit more professional...
Situation is this: Got MacBook as a gift, right after I spent a bunch of money on a Firepod that turns out not to work very well on my PC. Chipped in some of my own money to upgrade to black MacBook so I could use it to record instead. Thought I was all ready to go, but Cubase LE (software that came with the Firepod) doesn't work well with intel, and I'm not crazy about it anyway. I have already spent too much money. Can't afford ANYTHING else unless it is GUARANTEED to work with what I already have.
    PLEASE HELP!!!

why dont u try logic pro:

    , or logic express:

  • Mp3 recording software on Zen CD?

! I have had a few CL mp3 players and a Sound Blaster external sound card. One of these units (I think it was one of the Zen players) had desktop audio recording software on it.
Can someone tell me exactly what model player that was, so I can find it again (just for the CD!). I wish I had kept it. It was such terrific recording software.
    Thanks!
    Todd

I would use it on 2 computers if possible. One has XP and the other Vista.
But that is a good question. The mp3 player I had was before Vista was out, so dollars to doughnuts, it won't work on Vista.
That's fine though, because my Soundblaster doesn't work on Vista either, so I'd just use it on the XP computer, wheich has the Blaster hooked up to it.
I want to start recording my vinyl. I have tried other recorders, but nothing was as terrific as the Creative Labs one. It had fantastic editing software too.
I did a restore on the XP computer and didn't realize that I no longer had the disk with the recorder on it. Been trying to find it ever since.
But as far as the CL Media Source library thing, I don't need that so much. That might be on the Blaster CD.

  • Record Audio Editing Software

    Hello,
I'm trying to capture a demonstration of audio editing

  • Captivate 5.5 Software simulation video crashes when adding audio recording

I run Windows 7 and Adobe captivate crashes after trying to start a audio recording in software simulation. My simulation is ready and the moment, I click the "record audio" button, the application freezes and I have to go to end the application via Task Manager.
    Solution approaches:
I have started Captivate as administrator and that didn't help.
I have then tried to look up my preferences but didn't find any files which i could identify as preferences.
I have already tried the solution in the Note below (http://forums.adobe.com/thread/759455)
    Help please.
    Thanks,
    A

I am having similar issues, but with the internal speach generator. I have both simulation and demonstration videos. I was able to enter text and convert to Paul's voice without issue, but the minute I tried to add closed captions Captivate totally locked up. And now when I try to do any sort of audio edit, no matter which method of access to the audio (using Audio - Audio Management or Audio - Speech Management or the Add/Edit Audio buttons in the Properties window or using the Closed Caption button in the Slide Notes tab or double click the audio wave file in the Timeline tab) Captivate totally locks up. I was originally able to create 1 file with closed captions but now it also locks up when I try to edit and no other file will let me add CC or use the Audio edit features.
Captivate 5.5, Windows 7; run captivate as admin or not - no difference. Run captivate on my primary or secondary monitor - no difference; run captivate with or without other applications open - no difference.
When I force close using Task Manager I did get a CpDump file that was created. Not sure what to do with that...I submitted a bug but have heard nothing back.
I did follow the steps in the earlier referenced link about deleting the preferences. I also did not find a specific file/folder labeled preferences but my IT group said it was OK to delete the entire final folder in the referenced chain (Captivate 5). Once I did that, I had access to my Closed Captions again and could edit the audio.

  • Can't record software instrument track to an audio track

I'm frustrated at the moment. I'm sure this has worked before.
I have a project that contains external MIDI tracks, software instrument tracks and Garageband instrument tracks. All tracks play when I unmute them. The external ones play thru a Roland synth and audio comes back via ADAT thru my Firestudio interface.
I created an audio track for each MIDI track. I can record the output of each synth track as audio one at a time. But if I unmute one software instrument track, send it's output to channel 1 and 2, set the inputs of my record-enabled track to 1 and two I get no audio recorded. I know it's gotta be something simple that's wrong, but can't figger it out.

If you want to record an internal software instrument to audio you can just select the track and use the "export track as audio" command from the file menu. Or you can select the regions and use the bounce in place feature or solo the instrument in question and use the bounce command and import the resulting file. Logics INPUTs 1 and 2 are not the same as Logic's OUTPUTS 1 and 2. If they were you'd get a feedback loop. If you are careful and MUST do it this way, you can cable from outs 1&2 to inputs 1&2 but you must first disable the output the track you are recording on to to avoid feedback.

  • Recording audio and software tracks simultaneously ?

recording audio and software tracks simultaneously ?
I am recording a software piano instrument track and a vocal audio track in logic Pro X. Problem#1
When the replace"X" button is selected,
when recording audio and a software track simultaneously,
I can hear the previously recorded instrument track that I am recording over.
    (very distracting)
When recording a software instrument track alone (without simultaneously recording an audio track)
The software/midi instrument track will record over and erase existing data and I will not hear the previously recorded track. (as it is suppose to do) Problem #2
Both tracks are armed ready to record.
If the software instrument track is not highlighted, it will not record.
The audio track will record regardless of whether it is highlighted or not. Craig C.
    Calistro Music

Click record on the MIDI/Inst track.
Shift click record on the audio track.
    Hit record

  • How to convert a software instrument recording to an audio recording? Logic pro X

Hey I'm having serious trouble converting a software instrument recording to an audio recording. I'm trying to record this drum beat, then convert it to an audio file so i can chop it up and sample it on the EXS24. could anyone possibly provide any helpful insight to my dilema? Thank you very much!

im sorry i should've clarified a little further. it is on the drum machine feature in Logic pro X. i want to sample  the 808 kick so i can change the pitch of it in the exs24 but whenever i go to "bounce in place" this message pops up:
""Bounce Regions" in Place can only process regions on audio tracks and/or software instrument tracks. Click      “OK” to deselect all regions on other tracks and continue."
do you have any answers to this specifically?

  • Audio recording, chipmunk voice and stuttering?!

Hi all, I use the Elgato Game Capture HD with my MacBook Pro to record gaming videos. I use a standard USB headset with a mic to record live commentary over the top, this setup has always worked fine for me, until yesterday.
After recording my video, when I started editing it, I realised that in recording, the audio had caused my voice to go extremely high pitched, stutter and therefore out of sync with the video and then after about 5 minutes it just completely cut off.
I thought at first this was a problem with the mic, so I used my more professional mic which is a Zoom Handy Recorder H2 and plugged it in via USB. Same problem. So then I thought, it must be the Elgato recording software. Tried using Audacity to record some audio, it was fine once and then same problems. Which makes me think it's something to do with my MacBook?!
If anyone's had a similar problem or would even know how I would start to tackle this issue, i'd be incredibly grateful!
    Thanks in advance!

I have a 5c, and here is how I was able to trim a test recording:
    1. Open the recording file in Voice Memos.
    2. Tap "Edit" at the bottom. It's between the arrow-up symbol and trash can.
    3. On the right side, near the bottom-right corner you'll see a blue box with a round blue dot at the top-left corner of it, and another one at the bottom-right. This is the Trim button. Tap it.
    4. You should now see the recording with the "wavelengths", a vertical blue line (with a blue dot at top and bottom), and on each side a red line (also with red dot at top/bottom).
    5. Touch the left red line and you'll notice you can touch/drag it to the beginning point of your desired portion of the recording.
    6. Touch the right red line and touch/drag it for the recording's end point.
    7. Hit the Play button to play just the trimmed portion, making sure it's what you want.
    8. Once it's what you want, touch "Trim". Up pops "Trim Original" or "Save as New Recording".
On emailing it, go to the trimmed copy and click the arrow-up symbol, which will allow you to either message or email it.
EDIT: I found you can name your recording file to what you want by tapping the default name of it. A cursor will appear where then you can delete and retype a custom file name. Great for emailing so you recipients will know what it is by looking at it.

  • How do I fix bad Quality audio recording in Captivate 4

I am having trouble recording decent quality audio in Captivate 4.
What is happening is after I do the screen and audio recording when I play it back the audio is choppy.
It also kind of sounds like the audio is quickly echoed and then clipped.
Finally this clipping and choppiness seems random when it happens.
I tested this by recording 5 minutes of the demonstration (which recorded with only 1 glitch in the beginning).
When  I just recorded the second half when I played it back in Captivate it  was very choppy again throughout the audio making the complete session  unusable.
I am doing full motion recording of an application at 1024x768. I have tried all audio recording bitrates and have even gone up to 128kbps 16bit mp3.
I am using a high quality Audio-Technica AT2020 USB microphone.
I am running Windows Vista Service pack 2 fully updated with 4GB of memory on an Intel xeon W3503 2.4Ghz in 64 bit mode.
I have installed the latest patch update http://www.adobe.com/support/captivate/downloads.html 4.4.0.1 hoping that it waould solve the audio bugs to no avail.
Please let me know what else I may need to do to get Captivate 4 working like it should.
Are there any other settings or tests I should perform to get audio recording working.
Why would I even want to pay for Captivate 5 if Captivate 4 has worked so randomly for me.
Using 3rd party software like Audacity and even Adobe Soundbooth seems absurd when Captivate has audio recording built in.
For the time being I have gone back to Camtasia on another system because it actually seems to work but need to get Captivate working on my own system.

Try "Rapid Recorder" from store....it works well.
