Audio Rendering Sync Issue

I have had this issue multiple times over the past few weeks. ( Nothing major has changed in my set-up since this issue started appearing.)
I capture footage with perfect sync. I edit with it and everything is fine.
Then, as a final step for my audio, I apply a "Compressor / Limiter" effect to the whole program to catch any spikes in audio. This effect will play fine in real time until I get to a crossfade, which has to be rendered.
Rendering the fade renders the whole clip to either side of the fade. I work my way through the program or do a "Render All" to catch these. That's when problems occur, very unpredictably and irregularly.
Parts of my program audio from 30 minutes in will show up maybe two minutes in over the wrong footage. Things are playing not just a little out of sync but GROSSLY out of sync. If I delete the effect, the render is lost and the audio returns to normal.
None of the clips are moving around. It's something about how the footage is being managed during the render.
Any idea what's going on?

I should also tell you that there has been an instance when two sub-clips of the same source were rendered, that one was synced correctly and then the other was off, which is quite confusing... The slip in sync is almost 2 seconds!

  • Audio channels sync issue

    Hello,
I am recently having an issue with audio playback in FCP. We use FCP for student projects and use the video and audio out for live broadcasts. Lately when playing a sequence the various audio channels a1, a2, etc get out of sync from each other....very distracting....so when playing a song for example the left channel will lag by a second or more. This is replicated to varying degrees with all the channels. My audio is all 48k 16 bit sampled. I thought it might be related to an aging external drive but even when i play everything from the start up drive it still happens. Could this be related to where i set my scratch disk? I am stumped and frustrated.
    thanks

I am having the same issues on tow separate machines (MBP 17 inch and dual quad MP). Audio on left and right channels are out of sync and "trailing" somewhat random along with the video. Every-time I start playback sync starts to get worse. I tried EVERYTHING to get rid of this behavior:
    Relinking media files
    trashing renders
    Trashing preferences
    Reinstalling FinalcutStudio 2
    Reinstalling OS X
My sync issues are so severe that I can only work in mono. There is also no way to print to tape (DV and HDV) as FCP is skipping frames. Not sure how to attack this problem.
I would appreciate if Apple would look into this (hint) , I would be more then willing in helping to solve this with some screen captures of this bizarre behaviour.

I recently purchased an audio book from iTunes. it is not synching with my iPhone5. I have another audio book on my iPhone, which I've "unchecked"; I've "checked" my new purchase. The old book won't delete and the new book won't sync.

  • Audio Slipping (Sync issues) steaming video.

    Hey all,
I was wondering if this had happened to anyone else.
Since updating to Yosemite i've noticed a real problem when streaming video online through my web browser.
Regularly whilst watching a video there is a crackle on the audio track, then a second of the audio is repeated almost like an echo.
When this happens however the video caries on meaning the audio and video are out of sync.
This occurs on everything from Netflix, Youtube, DA Clips and other video sharing sites.
It occurs on Google Chrome, Safari and Firefox.
The only way to fix the problem and re-sync the audio is to reload the page with the video and begin again.
Unsure whether this is related or not but i've also noticed some slipping of audio when playing music in spotify. But obviously because it has nothing to sync up to you just hear the same word twice and it carries on, kinda like a scratch on an LP.
Would really appreciate any words of wisdom.
    I'm currently running OS X Yosemite 10.10.1
    Macbook 13inch late 2009 model
    2.26 processor
    4GB Memory
    Many thanks

In case anyone comes across this in the future, I've resolved my issue, and it had nothing to do with audio bit rates. In short, there seems to be a well-documented yet unfixed but in which an export from iMovie can lose sync if there are either slow-motion effects applied to a clip, or if the slow-motion speed is custom rather than pre-set by the software.
I changed my clips to 100% and everything exported fine, with no sync issues. For more on this, see the helpful thread here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10618532#10618532

  • Why Wont Apple Fix AUDIO / VIDEO Sync Issues

This has been a problem for awhile. Thank god there is a application fix but im receiving an iTouch very soon and I'm not sure if the same problem is going to be on that to..
It might be how Quicktime reads .MP4 and .M4V Files but i can play the videos on VLC and Zune Software fine..
I see other people posting this exact same problems. I see no answers... Apple Knows this is an issue. Why wont they fix it.
From what im hearing it is the audio that is going out of sync from the video.
    Now my Final Question is
"Is this just a Software issue for the computers or is it also a Software issue (Assuming that quicktime is the software on these devices) for the iTouch / iPhone ?

well i got my itouch today and it seems that the audio and video sync issues are only on the computer distributions of quicktime and not the hand held device versions

  • Audio / video sync issue in playback

for every recording i've made, when i play back the archive there is noticable lack of sync between the audio and the person's mouth.   the video seems to lag behind by almost a second.  the good news at least is that the delta is constant.
has anyone else experienced this?  it's happening in any scendario i try, even if i'm just recording myself.
is the LCCS dev team aware of this?  since audio and video streams are recorded separately, is there any way for me to programatically 'nudge' the streams into sync?
it's currently a show stopper, it looks really bad when the sync is so obviously absent.

    finally getting back to this..
i did as you suggested and recorded a video of myself using the recording and playback examples provided with the SDK (the 2.2 newest version btw).
the de-syncing of audio and video is definitely there.  it seems especially bad for longer recordings.  however, an interesting thing i discovered in playback:
    - sometimes, if i drag the playhead somewhere in the recording, pause, and then hit play, video and audio fall into sync.
    - if i start playback from the beginning of the recording, audio/video is always out of sync.
i understand that the video and audio streams are recorded separately and thus played back separately.  my guess is that when those streams are retrieved and playback begins, one starts before/after the other because they're not retrieved at exactly the same time.  it seems some extra work is required to ensure that their playback commences at exactly the same timestamp within each stream.
i can provide my recordings as an example if required.
this is a total showstopper for me.  it renders the entire recording service useless if the playback can't have sync between audio and video.  i would be happy to help with testing this more.  can someone from the LCCS team comment on this issue?
    thanks

  • Audio/Video sync issues after exporting

    Two quick issues:
    1. I've recently exported a project from FCE4 to quicktime and am finding that the audio is slightly out of sync with the video everytime.
Is there an ideal format or setting I need to export at to avoid this?
    2. Also, I've edited two projects using the same clips and keep finding that the second one I make seems to make the video very narrow when I export it. Is there a setting I need to use to avoid this, or does the problem lay in the setup?
    Cheers!
    John

From what I see in your info, the clips don't match the Sequeunce.
Furthermore, the clips are not FCE freindly. Probably required rendering?
I'd suggest using Streamclip to convert the H.264 clips to the exact specs of one of the FCE>Easy Setups, audio and video properties, then start over.
    http://www.squared5.com/
BTW: Whatever you convert the clips to must match the Easy Setup, so that you work with Clips and Sequence being the same. The best way to acheive this is to start a NEW Project, set the Easy Setup first, then bring in the the matching clips.
Using Item Properties in Browser>Seqeunce/Clip is one way to confirm matching specs for both.

  • Audio Visual Sync Issue Upon Export

    Hello All,
I am having an issue I have heard many people have but cannot get fixed using the recommended suggesstions.
I am working on a documentary piece that is about 01:52:00 in length. I want to export this project for eventual DVD burning. I am initially exporting the project:
    1. Using Quicktime Conversion
I have changed the "Movie Settings" to:
    2. MPEG-4
    3. Default "Frame Rate," and "Data Rate"
    4. Changed "Compressor Quality" to "Best"
I have changed the "Size Settings" to:
    5. HD: 1440 x 1080 16:9
    The sound settings are default:
    6. Linear PCM
    7. Stereo (L R)
    8. all clips are 48 kHz
    9. Changed Render settings "Quality" to Best.
    10. Linear PCM Settings Sample Size--16bits
Now the issue I have encountered is that the audio/video in the FCP timeline is in sync and looks great. But when I do the export the audio is about 1sec ahead of the video. I have several cuts along the piece. and this audio sync problem occurs throughout but it only comes up on the cuts. There are some clips that are in perfect sync but then there are about 1/3 to 1/2 of the clips that fall out of sync. If anyone knows what I could do to fix this I would be grateful, also I should note I am using FCP 5.

You're in the wrong forum. You need to ask your question in the Final Cut Studio forum.

  • Final Cut Audio/Video sync issues

Yes, I realize this has been discussed before, but for the life of me I cannot find the answer. So here we go.
    - FC version is 7.0.2
    - OSX is 10.6.3
    - Processor 2.8 Ghz Intel Core Duo 2
    - Memory 4 GB 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
I have used FC before and well acquainted. Recently I took a brush up course and used material provided in a book DVD. Had no issues while practice editing with this material.
Now have material saved I want to edit with. All video is saved on an external and in MOV format. No worries getting in imported in FC. However, every video I use starts to audio slide and by the time it reaches around halfway, full blown out of sync. Not by much, but it's definitely there.
I even took these videos and re-saved them in MOV format and same thing. With all this RAM there should be no need to shut anything down, but I did so. Same thing.
The interesting part is when using the test videos that were supplied on DVD and were imported into the MAC, no worries. Now I AM bringing those videos over from a saved file on the MAC itself, but that should make no difference. When bringing over the external movies into FC, they should react without a hitch.
Here's the fun part. ALL of these videos play perfectly on IMovie. All of them. So this makes me think there's something in the FC settings at work here. Then again, why did it not fault before?
One more thing. I recently upgraded to Snow Leopard and have seen a few glitchy items here and there. But this is the oddest.
Would really appreciate thoughts and suggestions. Frustration is setting in. And thanks

The first thing I'd check is to make sure the audio clip's settings and the FCP Sequence settings match. For example, if you use AIFF 32khz, 12 bit audio in an FCP Sequence set at AIFF 48khz, 16 bit, the audio WILL be out of sync as you describe.

  • Audio/video sync issues at chapter points, on certain DVD players

I created a DVD using DVD Studio Pro 4, had it replicated at a manufacturing facility, and have now sent out copies to approximately 600 people. About a dozen or so of my customers have experienced issues where at the chapter points for the film (a 60-minute documentary) the audio and video go out of sync. Unfortunately I can't describe this issue any more accurately than that because I haven't seen the problem. The disc plays fine on the vast majority of players. The people that are experiencing the problem have DVD players like the Sony DVP-NC655P and the Samsung DVD-R120.
Does anyone have any clue at all as to what the issue could be?
    Thanks very much.
    G5 Dual 2.5 GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

Is your audio PCM or AC3? If the audio is going out of sync on onlyl a handful of set-top players, the build is probably OK, and your media is probably starting out in sync. I suspect that your bit rate may be be too high, and the audio is chiking the buffer on the player, making the audio go out of sync. What format of audio is on the disc, and what is combined average/maximum bit rate?
    Hope this helps -

  • Audio / video sync issues

We are using JMF with FOBS4JMF - on some computers our player has an issue with the audio and video getting out of sync with FLV files - any ideas? Is it related to frame rate?
Also, if we capture to a MP4 - the video plays but we do not get any audio - but the same file played in QT plays just fine. Any ideas?

JMF doesn't support MP4 or FLV videos, the support for those are coming from FOBS4JMF, which is a 3rd party add-on to JMF. It's the policy of these Sun forums that 3rd party add-ons and libraries are not supported here.
As such, you'll need to get FOBS4JMF support from the FOBS people.

  • Audio / Video Syncing Issues

    Hello Everyone,
I own a 2011 MacBook Pro with a 250GB SSD and 8GB upgraded Ram. I'm currently using iMovie to create an hour long movie with images / audio / and voiceover in certain sections.
I have been working on this for quite some time and would like to be able to export it the same way I'm able to view it inside the Application. However, when I export the movie the audio / video / voiceover is off and it does not match with what I have worked on inside the project.
I have also tried breaking down the movie and exporting it in sections but the audio is still not syncing correctly on the export.
Please can someone help me out and help me explore my options.
    Thanks in Advance,
    Mauricio

Sorry for the confusion. To clarify:
The Video and Audio are OOS. Let's say that at the beginning of the Clip, the difference is ~ 12 frames off. Is it still that ~ 12 frames off at the end, or is it now ~40 frames OOS?
Though the best is to Capture with no OOS issues, the former is fairly easy to fix. The latter takes more work.
Also, whether the OOS is constant, or dynamic, might lead to figuring out where this issue is being introduced.
    Good luck,

  • Interesting Audio Visual sync issue

    Greetings,
I'm posting this to a few forums, hoping to get some feedback
regarding a strange, consistent, and somewhat unnerving issue
regarding drift between sync/streamed audio files and animation
    sequences on the timeline.
A colleague of mine is doing an animation project over ten
minutes in length in Flash. He was reading frame numbers to create
a track breakdown for exposure sheets (old school) and noticed that
the sound was slowly drifting out of sync after a period of time.
He sent me an email to ask whether I have noticed the same problem.
We have both worked on projects using Flash as a tool for video
    work.
I had not noticed the problem, never starting a project from
that direction, so I decided to do some tests. I created a 5 minute
(300 sec.) audio sequence of 1 KHz blips at every second. I
imported this file into Flash and set in on the timeline in stream
mode. I then made a little dot and made a one second sequence at 24
fps and copied that sequence up to 300 seconds. After 5 minutes
length over the time, the audio blip drifted away from the dot by
ten frames, or .4 seconds. The audio file also ends short of the
    animation sequence.
I have checked this issue out adjusting different properties
    of the audio:
    a. Sample rate ( 44.1, 22, 11)
    b. Bit rate (16, 8)
    c. File format ( .aif, .wav, mp3)
I have also tested using different frame rates (15, 24, 30),
yet the drift appears to be constant.
I have an example of one of these tests up on my website
    here
    (http://www.csiga.com/flash/avSyncTest.zip). It's the 11k8b audio
    at 24fps version. It's a tiny archive (38k), but decompresses to 6
    Mb.
I would be very curious if anyone could share some thoughts
about this issue. It would be useful to find some way around this
problem. There are many Flash based productions that migrate to
video in New York where I'm based. I'm sure that the community
    could benefit from any insight.
    Thanks.
    Jonathan Levy

The issue stems from the fact that Flash was never intended
to be used for such long timelines. As
far as it has come over the year - it is still a web tool.
Years ago I was in a production environment where we were
doing 22 minute shows for Cartoon Network
    - we used Flash - we never exceeded more than 1-2 minutes per
Flash doc and often as short as 15-20
    seconds.
We would use scratch audio which would get deleted before
exporting to quicktime - then we would
sticj each section together in the Avid (or Final Cut Pro,
    Premiere, etc...)
So I recommend trying not to do a full 10 min (or 5 min)
timeline in flash - it will lead to other
problems like the FLA getting so big and ultimately crashing
    (potentially).
    Hope this helps.

  • Sample rate and audio-MIDI sync issues

Disclaimer: I did read other posts similar to this but couldn't find an answer to my specific situation. So here it is:
Logic was perfectly fine when everything was running at 44.1kHz sample rate. Then I got vocals at 48 kHz so I had to convert the sample rate in Logic Pro to match it.
Suddenly I get a slew of "Error trying to sync MIDI and audio" messages. After crying and changing the sample rate back to 44.1, then to 48, and over and over again, it finally works again.
So Logic is fine at 48kHz. But when I go to a track that's at 44.1kHz, I get the sync messages again and have to play "toggle the sample rate" for about 5-15 minutes before Logic decides whose master again.
Why is it doing this? Do I need to change Logic Pro to some kind of default settings every time I go from one song to another with a different sample rate? Or will this not be an issue if I upgrade to 7.2? (I have 7.1.0)
    PowerPC G5   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

This is not a bug, but a nuisance.
You should upgrade to LP 7.1.1, which is way more stable than 7.1.0. No need for you to go to LP 7.2.
"Then I got vocals at 48 kHz so I had to convert the sample rate in Logic Pro to match it."
Are you certain, that in your song, in your regions, you used the newly converted 44.1kHz files, chosen from the Audio Window, and not (still) the old 48kHz files?
"So Logic is fine at 48kHz. But when I go to a track that's at 44.1kHz, I get the sync messages again"
LP doesn't do this well. And for a reason, but we'll not get into this now.
See: "Audio > Sample Rate > ..." and select one.
Perform proper conversion and make sure ALL of your audio files running in your song are congruent. Check your Audio Window and the files associated to the regions.
Set up your autoload to contain these settings. From then on, whenever you know that you will be importing other sample rates, change the settings in "Audio > Sample Rate > ..." before loading the sounds/files, if indeed you are starting from scratch. This will save you significant time.
    Been there, done that.

  • Audio/Video Syncing Issues on Capture

    Hey guys,
I've imported several tapes from my Sony V1u HDV camera, and I've been having the same issue.  I am capturing the video over Firewire, and every tape I capture, the resulting MPEG file in Premiere Pro is not in sync.  The video and audio are there, but they are not lined up at all.  Any ideas as to why I'm having this issue?  Thanks!
