Audio Scrubbing gone in Imovie 09

In the past I ad sound of my video clips as soon as I scroll with my mouse over a part of the clip.
This does not work anymore. It only works if I play the whole clip.
Does anybode know where I can turn this on?
I tried on the left side of the vu meters (the little icon is grey or black), but that doesn't change anything.

hit the key-combo Apple-K to toggle between on/off
and Welcome, blik!, to the  iMovie boards..

  • Audio scrubbing just moves audio clip

Hello; I'm a new iMovie user and I'm just finding my way around in the program. I have an old G4 with iMovie 4.01 and I can't seem to get the audio scrubbing to work. According to the Pogue book on iLife 04, "In iMovie 04, for the first time, you can scrub by Option-dragging your mouse back and forth across an audio clip. iMovie plays the sound under your cursor." [p. 361]
So far everything I've tried has just ended up moving the audio clip from side to side, Option key or not. What am I not doing right here?
    Thanks.

Bit unstable ..but Apple warns that it still is; "use at own risk", etc.
I wanted to see if current (version 6.0.3) iMovie HD, etc, works OK with the new system. So far, no problems.
Safari looks a little different - different typeface, and these buttons at the bottom of each post ("Did this topic solve your issue? Yes No") appear odd ..but maybe that's because it's still in the process of being tweaked and refined. There's a handy "make an Widget" button in Safari, letting me draw around, say, the topmost 10 posts on this page, and then I can call that back as a Widget overlay on top of anything else which is on the screen ..making it easy to pop in and out of Discussions..
Just downloaded a newer version yesterday, but have yet to install it (today).

  • Experiencing issues with audio scrubbing in Premiere cc 2014

Since upgrading I've been having issues with audio scrubbing in Premiere CC 2014.
Some of the time it won't scrub at all (silence) when I know that scrubbing option is turned on. Other times it will scrub the wrong section of the timeline, I'll hear dialogue from a different point in a clip.
Much of the time I experience this I'm working with multicam clips in sequences.
Working on iMac 2013, 32GB RAM, NVIDIA 780
    thank you.

Also had no Intensity Pro external monitor which worked fine the day before. Restarted PC and still nothing so starting poking around with the playback settings in preferences by choosing Adobe Desktop audio in the audio device section choosing OK then selecting back to Blackmagic audio then hit Ok. All of a sudden there was my external monitor and was able to scrub audio again. It's like it's sleeping knowing it should work until you poke it a few times to wake it up. How my Intensity Pro external monitor and scrubbing audio being related in any way is perplexing. Or am I being obtuse?
I would contact Blackmagic Design to make sure your drivers are current. Can you try that?

  • TS2289 Audio in iMovie 11 files but missing in sections when shared to iDVD. The movie and audio plays fine in iMovie but my burned iDVD  movie is missing some audio .

I imported a movie into iMovie 11 from a Canon Vixia HFR 300 SD card with no problem. I have a new iMac running OsX 18.8.4 I think. I added chapter markers and shared it with iDVD. And burned it to a DVD.  Towards the end of this 30 minute movie the sound just stops. I do remember some screen came up when I wanted to burn DVD that said something was wrong with files but I couldn't figure what do to fix it and allowed me to continue. Any ideas?

    Hi
Either the problem is in iMovie or in iDVD
    two notes
    No Audio in iMovie
Most common origin is use of audio from iTunes.
    Work around -
    • Select needed audio to one new playlist
    • Copy out this as an Audio-CD .aiff (not .mp3)
    • Use this in the movie-project
    Other origins are
    1. strange / alient file formats as -
    • .mp3, .avi, .wmv etc
    • Convert them into .aiff 48kHz 16-bit and use this
    2. the Mac is set wrongly in regard of midi -
    • Close iMovie and other programs
    • Start GarageBand
    • Make a new GB-project and play some notes
    • Close GB and Save
    • Now try iMovie again
    3. No audio when playback in iMovie 1 to HD 6.
    a. in iMovie pref. - deselect ” Playback via Camera”
    b. in System preferences - see that Audio out is not set to zero. Mine often does this
    without me knowing why.
    4. iMovie’08 & 09 & 11
    • Toggle audio-scimming by cmd-K
    Stuttering audio and video
    1. FileVault is ON - Turn it off
    2. More than 50 audio files in a movie-project
Mix down to one audio clip
    3. Project is stored on one (USB) external hard disk - should be a FireWire one
    4. the External hard disk is not Mac OS Extended formatted - but
UNIX/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange and this will not work for Video.
    5. To little free space on internal boot hard disk.
I go for a minimum of 25Gb free space when project is imported and edited and this goes for
4x3 SD Video. For 16x9 HD my guess would be about 5 times more at least.
Neither Mac OS, iMovie or iDVD can address any other hard disk than the boot drive for it’s
scratch files. (Unlike Final Cut Express/Pro where You select scratch disk/s)
    6. Network storage - DOESN’T WORK
    No audio on DVD disc.
    Most common origin.
    1. Imported audio from iTunes.
    • In iTunes copy out as an Audio-CD .aiff (Same as played on standard Stereo CD - no .mp3)
    • Use this in Your movie project
    2. Low - Free Space on Start-up/Boot/Internal/Mac OS Hard disk makes it hard for iMovie to work as intended.
Down to 1.3 GB and it doesn’t work - especially audio don’t migrate over to Media Browser
    (iM’08 & 09)
    3. Material in iMovie’08 & 09 - Shared to Media Browser and here selected as Large
large.m4v. It silenced out this project in iDVD. By making a slight alteration - provoking it to ask for a new Share/Publish to Media Browser and here selecting 640x480 - and audio was back when a new iDVD project was created including this movie.
    Minuscular - - 176x144
    Mobile - - - - - 480x360
    Medium - - - - 640x480
    Large - - - - - - 720x540    960x540
    HD - - - - - - - - 1280x720
    4. Strange audio formats like .mp3, .avi etc.
    • Change them to .aiff. Use an audio editor like Audacity (free)
    5. Main audio is set to off in System Preferences - Does this by it self - Don’t know why
    Cheque Audio-Out resp. Audio-In
    6. Ed Hanna
Had the same problem; some Googling around gave me a kludgy, but effective fix
Downgrade Perian from recent versions back to version 1.0.
That worked for me, and so far I haven't encountered any deficiencies — except it takes more advanced versions of Perian to enable QuickTime to handle subtitles in .srt format — that I have noticed.
    7. GarageBand fix.
In this set audio to 44.1 kHz (Klaus1 suggestion)
(if this don’t work try 48 kHz - me guessing)
    Before burning the DVD.
    • Do a DiskImage (File menu and down)
    • Double click on the .img file
    • Test it with Apple DVD-player
If it’s OK then make Your DVD.
Burn at x1 speed.... (or x4)
    • In iDVD 08 - or - 09
    • Burn from DiskImage with Apple’s Disk Utilities application
•OR burn with Roxio Toast™ if You got it

  • Audio scrubbing in Encore CS4?

It would be very helpful to have audio scrubbing, as I am trying to adjust subtle timing issues for subtitles.  Is there any way to get audio scrubbing in Encore CS4?

Thank you for your comment and for the link.  I eventually figured out
exactly the "work around" that you suggest, and it gets the job done, but as
you say, audio scrub would be the ideal feature for what I am doing.  Thanks

There is no scrubbing of Audio, that I know of. The closest would be to
horizontally expand the Timeline and use a drag-back, Spacebar (to Play), on
    that Timeline.
At first, I could not see the use for this feature, but kept re-reading your
comment on Subtitles and all of a sudden it hit me. Sounds like a useful
feature for how you intend to use it.

Hi vickkjayy11 and welcome to Apple Support Communities,
Just to be clear, we are a peer to peer support community and have nothing official to do with Apple.
So to your problem, when you say:
"I reset my macbook pro a few days ago"
What exactly happened? Did you have a Time Machine backup?
    Read this:
OS X: About OS X Recovery - Apple Support
It would help to know the exact model (size and year) and which OS you're using.

    • purchase iM09 (Disks) or iM11 (only avail via  download/AppStore, you'd need MacOS10.6 doing so)

  • Audio scrub not working?

    Hi
Sometimes, including now, when I try to scrub the audio on timeline or viewer, anything over 1x speed is silent - sometimes however it will give me the 2 or more x speed and I can hear the audio scrub - what settings do I need to mess with to insure I will always have scrub on any project?

  • Syncing External Audio with Video on iMovie

If syncing external audio with video on imovie, once successfully syncing the 2 is it possible to permanantly merge them so that I can continue trimming and rearranging clips without having to continue to re-sync the audio and video after every change I make?

In Final Cut Pro X, yes. In iMovie...no.
The workaround in iMovie is to sync your external audio to the video clip. Mute the audio on the video clip so all that is left is the good audio. Then use SHARE/EXPORT TO QUICKTIME. Choose Movie to QuickTime Movie and under Options choose Apple Intermediate Codec as the Video Codec.
Then save this clip in a place you can find it. Finally, import this new clip back into your event.

  • Canopus ADVC110 - No Audio When Importing into Imovie 6

I'm trying to import a vhs video tape from a vcr through the canopus ADVC110 into imovie. The video comes over fine, but there is no audio. I've checked the connections and they all look correct. Any ideas?

I am having the exact same problem except I am using iMovie HD 5.0.2. It is definetly not my camcorder because I tried connnecting other audio sources to the converter. No audio is recognized by iMovie. I tried "cycling the power" opening and quitting GarageBand and deselecting ouput to camcorder. Nothing seems to work. Please help!!

  • Audio Scrubbing Analogue & Digital

    Hi,
I am about to be a new user of CS5 Production Premium.  New Certified system on order (Z800).  I have been to a demo of CS5 and spent sometime looking around this forum etc. and could not find the answer I wanted.  My question is:
Duringthe demo audio scrubbing was demonstarted and the the audio was a digital output of sound (resulting jerky audio).  I asked if it was possible to switch the scrubbed sound to analougue for a smooth rendition of the timeline track. The demonstrator did not know if thiswas a feture in CS5.
Suffice to say for me this restriction would mean a difficult edit as I oftem require to sync classical music with say subtle instument sounds from different sources of the same event sound.  Is it possible to scrubb in analogue type audio out rather than digital.
I am changing over after a long decision form Liquid (Avid) as MC does not fit the bill for me.  So Adobe CS5 here I come in a few weeks time.  Yes - a new learning curve and perhaps a few more questions here.
Anyway I Hope some of you wise owls will be able to let me know.  I am based here in Shakespeare Land - Stratford-upon-Avon UK.
    Thanks in Anticipation.
    Gavin.

But, soft! what light through yonder browser breaks? It is the answer, and JKL Play is the sun.
    (Sorry... had to...)
    Gavin (and Craig),
You can achieve what you're looking for by holding down the "K" key (pause) and alternatively pressing and holding "J" (reverse) or "L" (forward) to playback audio in a slow, analog, reel-to-reel fashion. Instead of individual time segment samples, you'll a slower and lower pitched audio playback that is continuous, versus the usual "step" playback you get when navigating with the arrow keys. You can also get the analog-style playback using the Shuttle slider in the Source or Program Monitors (found just under the transport controls). Where the JKL Play is limited to one speed, you can achieve variable playback, both slower and faster, using the Shuttle slider. The Jog wheel behaves like the arrow key "frame-by-frame" movement though, so it won't work for what you're after.
    Hope that helps.

I have audio on my iOS imovie app that I want to delete. How can I do this. I tried recording over it but it still is heard.

I think Apple User is mistaken and wandered into the wrong forum, do ignore that advise.
I am unclear as to where the audio is?
If you want to silence the audio on a clip in the timeline,
    double tap the clip,
In the audio clip settings turn the sound off.
If it is a sound recording, sound effect, or music then you can double tap, and choose delete.
Have a look at this help guide, specifically the part under create a project, add and adjust audio

  • Audio Scrubbing Patch

Dear Adobe staff, I'm an animation artist and  I've been a loyal customer of your products for more than five years. I just recently acquired an add-on that allows me to animate more efficiently in Photoshop. Unfortunately, when I tried to animate with audio I was unable to scrub through it. I know you've said in the past that you don't have an audio scrubbing feature in any version of photoshop, but do you plan on making a patch or update for it in the future? If so, than that would be very helpful. Thank you for your time.
