Audio shifts out of sync. cannot match up picture to audio

i have a video that i downloaded from a stream. however, in fcp 6 the audio is out of sync with the picture. when i reallign the picture to audio, the audio gradually becomes more and more out of sync the further you go down the timeline. ive tried resampling, changing bit rate, and dropping frames. am i doing something wrong? i would appreciate any and all help. THANKS

Interesting you asked that "side question". Recently, I was ripping CD tracks that I know are 44.1 sample rate and I needed to re-sample them to 48k for the FC project. I knew what the 48k should sound like as it was recorded on the cameras. After I re-sampled the audio, it was still off and I have done this at least 100 times. If I remember correctly, I had to export the audio track, selecting 16 bit, 48k before it matched up. Just changing the sample rate of the audio project did not re-sample correctly even though a dialog box popped up asking to resample to the new rate. I use Cubase for mu audio work so I can't explain the process in STP but I think you get the idea. Yes, the duration should change if re-sampled correctly.

  • Audio goes out of sync when Blu-ray folder is exported from Encore CS6

I compile a project in Encore using H.264 and .wav files. The audio plays fine directly from the timeline. It also plays fine when I preview it from Encore. When I finally export it as a set of Blu-ray folders, the audio exports out of sync with the video. It is approximately 6-7 seconds ahead of the video. What am I doing incorrectly? When I mux the files into an .MKV, the video is in sync with the audio so I know the files themselves do not have different start times.
I am running with an HP Z820 with Windows 7, 64-bit OS and 16GB RAM.

For anyone who's interested, I found a solution to this problem. Once imported into Encore, the leader in on the video and audio files cannot be trimmed at all. (I had been trimming the beginning of the video and matching audio file to eliminate the 8 seconds of dead space at the start of the clips.) Although the trim took effect immediately in the Encore timeline and I could also watch it in preview in sync, exporting was another story. The audio track seems to retain the trim when exporting but the video track does not, hence the 6-7 second delay between audio and video.
I reimported the files to my project and left in the 8 seconds of dead space at the start and voila! The video and audio match up when exported.
Ideally the trim tool would just work as its supposed to through export and all, but at least I found a solution I can work with.
(As a note, the trim works just fine in export on Encore CS5. I only had this problem with Encore CS6.)

  • Captured audio is out of sync

I captured a 12 minutes clip using Capture Now in FCE 3.5 from my PAL camcorder Canon MVX4i (=Optura 600).
This is the first time it happens to me: the captured clip has the audio portion out of sync with respect to the video by 5 frames. So, the audio is consistently 5/25 fps = 0.2 seconds late during the whole clip. Unfortunately, this is quite visible when people are speaking.
As a workaround I set the clip in the timeline, unlinked the audio, shifted the video portion forward by 5 frames, marked the clip in sync and relinked (BTW it took me a while to find out that 5 was the right value: lot of tests adding and subtracting a frame at the time, and listening ...)
I doubt the cause is the camera, so my question is: what is the cause of this out of sync ?
    Thanks
    Piero
    Some additional info.
I used the same setup I've been using so far: camera directly connected to the iMac, capture to an external firewire hard drive, use of Capture Now just because it's faster with short movies. Tha movie was shot with 16 bit audio. The shift is the same all along the clip.

    Hi Ian,
I'll check tonight once more, just to be sure. I doubt though, because being aware of the possible impact of the 32KHz, I am usually careful. But I also know that editing after 11 pm is not recommended to me... I might do silly mistakes...
In any case, I'm afraid there is a problem with the tape. Could a damaged tape causes out of sync during capture ?
    Thanks

  • Rendered Audio is out-of-sync

I have one clip that is 2 minutes with two graphic tracks above it and the two audio tracks below.
No cuts or transitions just one clip.
When I double click on the "subclip" that I am using, in the browser it plays correctly.
When I render the 2 minute piece the audio is out of sync. I tried changing settings to accomodate the different types of NTSC but no matter what I do I can't seem to figure this out.

    Thanks for your response.
How do I check the rate of my clip to make sure that the Easy Set-Up matches the clip?
I'm sure this is easy to do but I'm unsure of how to search for that answer.
and I'm still a bit new at this......
I appreciate your time and help.'

  • My audio goes out of sync after import

I have a bunch of masters of 1h documentaries that I've done using Adobe Premiere CS6. I've exported the masters using exactly the same specs:
    Apple Pro Res 422 (HQ), 23.98fps, 1920x1080p, 48kHz, 16b, PCM audio.
I have to do some changes on the masters of these shows. They all play fine on several players like VLC, Quicktime, Mpeg Streamclip, etc. However after I import the masters into Premiere Pro CC, 3 out of 10 shows get the audio gradually out of sync, even on the source monitor before I put them on a timeline. The behaviour continues even after I place them on a timeline.
The project settings are the same as the masters and so are the sequence settings. I've tried to recreate the project, delete and re-import, duplicate the file and import that, and no matter what I do the same 3 masters go out of sync after the import.
I've tried to find a solution in many forums and despite noticing that several people have the same issue, no one has a valid solution for my problem.
I cannot go back to CS6 since my company updated their systems to CS7 so I can't even cross check.
Any suggestion will be most welcome.
    Thanks in advance peeps.
    NJ

    Couple of suggestions.
First, rather than opening the Master export, go back to the original project.  That should open fine in CC.
Second, with a CC subscription, you do have access to the full CS6 suite.

  • Audio is out of sync when placed in the timeline!!!

When I play a clip in the viewer, everything is fine, but when the clip is placed into the timeline and played in the canvas, the audio is out of sync by about half a second. I noticed that even when I view the sound waves, what I hear does not match up with where the playhead is. This is extremely frustrating and I have currently resulted to physically moving the audio to match it up, something that I do not want to do for the duration of my film.
I read in another post that the video and the audio could not be at the same level. How can you tell if the video and audio are at the same level??
I have FCE 3.5 if that makes any difference. Any help would be much appreciated!

How was this clip imported? If it was captured/ingested, did you make sure that the sample rate of the capture settings matched the sample rate of your audio? Normally FCE will give you a warning if they don't match, but it can't hurt to make sure.

  • Rate Stretch audio goes out of sync when exported.

Audio, which is rate stretched using the rate stretch tool to 100.01%, plays fine in Premiere Pro CS6. However, when exported to Encore or to MPEG-2 file, the audio is no longer stretched and becomes out of sync by the end of the video. When I play the preview in Encore, the audio is out of sync. Switch back to Premiere, it is OK. Export a MPEG-2 file and author a DVD, the audio is out of sync. Go back to Premiere, it is OK. I record the audio using a TASCAM portable recorder. I have recorded and synched audio many times and this is the first time that it does not work, on two separate Premiere projects. Any ideas on how to fix this. Even better, is there a way to record audio so that it matches the video (from a Panasonic HD AVCHD camcorder) without requiring rate stretch adjustment?

Try changing the speed with right click, Speed/Duration instead of using the Rate Stretch tool.

  • Audio drifts out of sync in QT

I have just completed a 30 min., 20 sequence piece. When I create the reference movie the audio drifts out of sync.
It plays fine in FCP (5.1.1). The properies are matched at 1080i50 and 48k in FCP and QT.
    Would appreciate some help.

Thanks for taking an interest, Studio X.
I didn't do the capture, but the media and sequence settings are matched and the QT properties are too at 1080i50 and 48k. I'm not using an external monitor, just viewing from the timeline. I'm done with the project, I was just trying to save myself a copy before it goes to the compositor and composer.
I think I remember reading a post on the same problem somewhere else and it came right when it was encoded for MPEG 2. I'm trying that now, will post the result.

  • Audio Drifts Out of Sync After Demux

    Hi,
I demuxed an hour-long program from DVD to .m2v and .ac3 using MPEG Streamclip. The audio drifts out of sync very gradually, and by the end is way off.
I don't want to re-compress the audio, as it is already AC3. According to Quicktime, the video is 29.97 fps, and the audio is 16-bit 48 khz.
When I used to Export to DV option, everything stayed in sync. I can't go this route, however, since I can't afford to re-compress anything (I'm making a new DVD from this old one). Just an FYI that this worked.
Ever run into this problem before?

I am using version 1.9. In the preferences pane, I don't have anything checked.
To reiterate, all I'm trying to is demux the DVD as-is and bring those assets into DVD Studio Pro for an updated project. Not using FCP anywhere in this workflow.
Looks like I left out an important piece of info, though...When I demux the audio stream to AC3 (its original format), and try to import it into DVD Studio Pro, I get the error message: "Variable bit rate audio assets cannot be imported." I am not sure how the client originally encoded their audio, but the fact that it stays in sync on the DVD led me to believe they didn't do anything wrong. Could this VBR be throwing the audio off during the demux? The only instances where I've noticed it's out of sync are when I export to an uncompressed format like AIFF or WAV, and can actually view it.

  • When audio goes out of sync..

In FCP7, when audio goes out of sync with the video track it came from (even when they are unlinked), a red warning box is displayed on the audio track and tells you how far out of sync it is, which easily enables you to resync.
Well, in FCX my audio went out of synce, but i didn't know it until i played back a segment i was working on, where i spliced two audio tracks and video tracks together. Right now i'm trying to fix the one audio track so that is synced up with its parent video track, but so far i'm just guessing that it's a good sync rather than knowing FOR SURE whether or not it's truly synced back up.
Is there any kind of work around, which enables you to resync in a manner similar to  before FCPX?
    Thanks

I am not sure if your problem has been solved already but here is the way to do that:
select in the clip in the timeline the part were the audio should be return in sync. use the blade-tool to make that part a seperate clip.
Higlight this clip in the timeline and use shift-F to highlight this clip in the browser. There it wil show up partially of course.
Use only the audio and put that part under the selected clip in the timeline where you need the original audio. remove the original out-of-sync audio.

  • Audio & Waveform out of sync

I have some video recorded at 720/50p and 48Khz sound.
I have some sound recorded on an external recorder (Zoom H4N) also at 48Khz.
When I import them in to FCP (create new sequence, drop the footage on and let FCP make the sequence match the video) and sync the audio, the audio from the external recorder drifts over time (about half a second over 10 mins) yet the waveform display looks perfectly in sync.
The audio is not being played in sync but the waveform IS in sync.
In case this was a playback issue I exported the timeline to a quicktime file and it has the same problem (i.e out of sync).
If I slow the audio track to 99.9% it more or less stays in sync.
I've also run the file through compressor to convert to an AIFF 48Khz 16 bit file and it's the SAME THING!
Any one know what is causing this? If the audio AND the waveform drifted I could stretch them to match, but the audio does not play according to the waveform. Help!
This happens on two different computers - an 8 core and a quad i7 iMac. Both running 7.0.2 and both on Snow Leopard 10.6.4.
The crazy thing is this used to work perfectly until I upgraded to snow. Ideas????

I had this same exact problem on a piece i was working on and it turned out that it had to do with the file being read as drop frame even though it was non-drop (or vice versa, can't remember). we were working with tracks being mixed out of logic, and our mixer changing one obscure setting for the output that shouldn't have affected anything made the difference. we theorized it was some strange file header information that final cut was translating incorrectly.
Also, the result wasn't consistent across systems. one of the computers we were using would always import the clip even if the composer had changed it and the other wouldn't.
In the end i think we actually had to do a speed change on one of the clips to 99.9 (or 100.1, i can't remember. ha) and it worked fine. but yeah. it's just the usual crappy FCP file management. they need to fix that bad. good to know about STP fixing it. probably rewrites the file header. or something.

  • Why does the audio go out of sync on my Apple TV?

Over the past couple of weeks I have noticed that the audio goes out of sync with any streaming video on my Apple TV (3rd gen) after about 20 minutes of usage.  I have never had this experience in the past and am not sure why it is happening, but one theory is that it has something to do with AirPlay.  I'm pretty sure that this problem only happens after I use AirPlay to connect my Mac to the Apple TV.  I'm not sure if this is the exact source of the issue and was wondering if anyone else has experienced this, and if so, what solutions may be available.  Thanks.

  • Audio/video out of sync (audio delay) with PowerBeats wireless earphones.

I am having a problem with audio/video sync between my  PowerBeats Wireless earphones with my MacPro and MacBookPro. I have tried pairing, playing the video, pausing the video, turning off the PowerBeats, tuning the PowerBeats on, then starting the video playback again. I have the same audio delay so this not working for me. Anyone have an update as to how to fix this audio/video sync problem?

I am playing MPEG-4 movie files. I did open MPlayerX from my dock, then pulled down File to select Open which then did show the folder where these movie files are stored.  Then I was able to select a movie file, open it, and use "Decrease Audio Delay" to closely sync the audio with the video. I say closely because it is not perfect. Rather than stepping each increase or decrease in one tenth of a second, perhaps a finer adjustment would have been in milliseconds. This is the adjustment that I have with my AVR to sync the audio with the video, so I know this is a possible increment adjustment. The perfect adjustment was in between -0.4 and -0.5 second, however, this was not possible in one tenth second adjustments. The closest adjustment was with -0.4 second rather than with -0.5 second. So, adjustments in milliseconds could have been very near a perfect sync. Perhaps later versions of MPlayer will offer the adjustment selection in milliseconds. Nevertheless, this is working much, much better than before. Thank you so much. I have spent most of this day researching this problem and you have come up with by far the best solution. This problem goes all the way back to 2010 and possibly beyond for Apple products. There are hundreds of reports documenting out of sync audio/video issues with no solution that works as well as MPlayerX. Even the Beats support staff have no idea of how to resolve the audio/video out of sync.

  • Audio video out of sync?

Every movie I have rented and purchased the audio is out of sync with the video. If I pause the movie sometimes it goes back into sync but doesn't last long before it goes out of sync again. I have been trying to resolve this issue for the past week. I have turned off everything on the computer that manages audio, made sure all drivers and software is up to date. I have uninstalled itunes and reinstalled. I've set itunes and windows bit rate the exact same and nothing seems to fix the problem. I am running Windows 8 on a new Samsung laptop, previously I was using a Gateway laptop with no problems. From my reasearch the past couple days i see this has been on on going problem with itunes users and I hope someone has a fix. I just rented a movie from Xbox Video and it worked perfectly. I think I am going to have to make the switch to Xbox but I have movies I have downloaded to itunes and would like to watch them.
    Any help would be appreicated.

    Hello bjwilson22,
I was researching the symptom you describe and reocmmend this article named Troubleshooting iTunes for Windows Vista or Windows 7 video playback performance issues found here http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1718
It is pretty length, but also thorough and I feel has the best advice to help troubleshoot the issue.
    All the very best,
