Audio Skipping when iTunes is in background.

Hello everyone.
Whenever I'm playing audio (iTunes, quicktime movies, Youtube, anything involving audio), and I jump around from application to application, the audio skips horribly. It doesn't seem to matter if I have 2 applications open or 20. I don't have any lyric widgets open, which I've read can cause problems.
Anyone know of any solutions to this? It's really frustrating that I can't listen to my music in peace!
Thanks,
-Eric

Repair permissions.
Run DiskWarrior. Don't have it? Get it.
Rest PRAM.
Reset PMU (last resort).
Also a good idea to test your memory: http://www.memtestosx.org/
And to keep all media on a separate drive than the OS.

  • Audio Skipping in iTunes

I have been experiencing this problem for quite some time now. When I listen to music files either purchased from iTunes or directly uploaded from a CD onto iTunes, the audio skips. It is as if a second has been taken out of the song -- for instance, a song may jump from 22 to 24 seconds. It is never in the same place, and the number of times it happens per song varies.
This problem does not occur with files downloaded from other sources and played on iTunes. It only happens with the ones that are encoded by iTunes as AAC audio files.
Does anyone know if there is some type of troubleshooting I can perform to see if my computer is having a problem playing AAC audio files?? I am extremely perplexed by this, and no one has been able to help me thus far. Please someone help!

    Hi,
I have a similar problem with music files 'stuttering' or 'jittering' and it's particularly noticeable during quieter tracks. Almost sounds like crackles or pops in the background.
The interesting thing is that I played the same problematic files on the same machine using Windows Media Player and they were rock steady perfect!? Suggests to me an issue with the iTunes software. I was similarly tempted to reinstall iTunes and the audio drivers, but I see this didn't help another friend here with the same problem.
Th eproblem has come about since I transferred all music to my new computer running Windows 7 64 bit and wonder if there is an issue with the latest iTunes 64 bit version software??
    Any thoughts/advice please? Regards.

  • Audio skips when streaming from the internet (pandora/grooveshark).

I'm using airport extreme, wired connection, to a macbook pro (2011) and mac pro (2009). audio skips on both devices when streaming from pandora or grooveshark. problem has persisted through system upgrades, clean installs etc... Problem persists through different web browsers (Firefox/chrome/safari)
Ironicaly, Itunes radio does not skip, neither does netflix.
I have seen COUNTLESS posts regarding this problem from many different APPLE users. I would love to see apple address this problem...

Your first step is to determine if there is an issue with this specific movie or if it's a universal problem.  Does ANYTHING from the MBP provide both sound and video?
Another thought is DRM coding but that should affect both video and audio.  If the movie has DRM coding and your television does not, then the movie won't play.  I'm not an expert but I don't think that that's your problem because you do get the video.

  • A2019 JB Intermittant audio skipping when screen off

I don't know if anyone else is using their tablet for an audio player, but when I am, I will randomly get a pause in the audio for a brief moment. I'm using Poweramp, which has an option for wakelock when the screen is off to deter problems with the audio stopping when the screen is off. The screen being off doesn't normally stop the audio, but the option doesn't seem to help either. It would seem the OS is attempting to do something like go into a lower power mode than is required for Poweramp to run, and Poweramp is pulling it back out... Or something.
Anyone else encountering this? Any ideas for a fix?

    Hello ugoff,
Make sure your apps and system firmware is up to date. As for the sound skipping when the screen goes off, I have seen that happen before and that usually only occurrs whenever a program in the background is being updated. Hope that helps.

  • Music skips when im running itunes 11 in background

music skips when im running itunes 11 in background

After the 11.1.1 upgrade iTunes skips songs after a certain period of time. The skipping moment is different for a bunch of songs, but it's staying the same for each of those songs (one song always skips at 0:34, another one always at 0:05, etc.). When I manually set the "marker" right behind that moment the songs play through to the end. All the files are ok. When I drag them to the desktop and play them in preview or VLC the problem does not occur! There is also no exclamation mark or anything...
Any ideas anbody? I'm really dazed...

  • Only half of some iTunes Matched songs on my iPhone will play, then audio skips to next song in playlist!

Several (maybe 5%) of iTunes Matched songs on my iPhone do this... at EXACTLY 1/2 way through the song.
EXAMPLE: At 2:25 of a 4:50 long song (Shania Twain - From This Moment) the next song in playlist (Taylor Swift - Tim McGraw) starts as the audio skips to beginning of next song in playlist.  Oddly, Shania's attractive album artwork and title stays up while Taylor's tune plays (?)
When the timeline for the first Shania song hits the end, the artwork slides to Taylor Swift's CD Cover art and the timer slider adjusts to near the end of that song.
When I play same songs on the same playlist on iTunes (also downloaded from iTunes Match) this does not occur.
Does anyone else see this happen or are there any suggestions?
    THANKS
    geo

Hey Guys, from my late model iPhone 4, I am also seeing my iTunes Match songs terminate playing very abruptly ...some won't play at all ...others skip to the next track after 10 seconds.
I checked the source files on my iMAC, and they are 100 percent perfect.
Tried deleting them, recreating them, signing out and then back into iTunes with Match On & Off, etc ...still no resolution to these problems.
Maybe the MATCH product is crashing under it's own weight now?   It used to be good, but now I am not so sure anymore.
Please post if you have any solution or suggestions.
    Thanks!

  • Songs skip when playing on itunes

Is anyone else having problems with their songs skipping on itunes (both saved audio files and audio cds) when they play fine on other players like windows media player. My itunes was working fine until about two weeks ago when the program seemed to create havic on my computer. It killed my internet explorer, then itunes and quicktime wouldn't uninstall on my computer. Finally removed programs using windows cleanup utility program. Have installed/ uninstalled program several times since with no luck. The songs keep skipping and slowing down. Even tried updating drivers. Seems to play fine as long as I'm not running anyother program on the computer, but as soon as I run another program or even minimize/ maximize the itunes media player skipping starts (even though only using like 4% computer power). Even tried installing stand alone quicktime player. Nothing works. The apple techs have to be the worst support on the planet. Sent hrs on the phone with them. Please help or let me know if u are having similar problems. Thanks Tom

I've had problems as well. I get "crackling" when I play songs using iTunes. When it happens, it appears that the program is getting bogged down because the mouse doesn't move smoothly across the screen. I've been trying many ways of troubleshooting it including the "waveout" option and keep coming up empty. I've tested identical tracks on Windows Media Player and found them to play perfectly on WMP. What is also baffling is that I can still burn playlists using iTunes and then play the burned CD on another computer or CD player with no sound problems whatsoever. Someone suggested it could be connected to compatibility with a Windows update like Service Pack 2 for WINXP, but I know for a fact the program was fine when SP2 was installed.
Here's a brief history of my troubleshooting:
Everything with my system was working fine.
Computer was getting bogged down playing Sim City, games on pogo.com, and itunes was crackling.
Left for work one day and iTunes was working. Came home the next day and the program dumped EVERYTHING. It did not carry a single song in the library and all 52 playlists were gone even though all files were still sitting in the iTunes folder as they always were. Each playlist xml file I found and opened with Notepad showed only the playlists that come with the program and nothing I had created. I'm assuming this issue occurred because of a corrupted xml library file or there was a conflict with my old 20GB hard drive that used to house the old OS and program files (that hard drive has since been wiped).
Did major utitility maintenance: 3 Spyware programs, 2 antivirus, Norton Utlities Disc Cleanup/defragged/etc and what little spyware found were cookies.
I considered that there may be files corruption, so I tried playing mp3 tracks from the library using Windows Media Player and had no sound problems at all!! Of course, the majority of my library is in apple's aac fomat.
I also decided to see what would happen if I burned a CD through iTunes. The CD works great!
I also get crackling when I play CDs through the CD Rom with iTunes and do not when I use Windows Media Player.
I also considered that it was a specific format causing the issue: mpeg layer 3 or 4. Songs crackle across the board.
Uninstalled iTunes again. Downloaded and installed iTunes 5 today. Songs still crackle!
I also used regedit and ccleaner to clean up the computer as well. Still no luck.

  • ITunes video & audio skips all the time, boggs down entire OS

Hey folks, I've been having serious problems with iTunes, but I can't find any solutions on this discussion board.
It seems every time I play audio or video through iTunes, it skips. It skips on every song and nearly every video. The video file size or format doesn't seem to matter, but if I make the video full screen the problem gets worse.
Whenever this skipping happens I get the infamous spinning beach ball and the operating system takes a while to respond. I'm running iStat Menus, and when these skips happen I see no spikes in memory usage, CPU, or hard drive activity. There's also nothing wierd going on in the Activity Monitor.
I've tried disabling third-party plugins in iTunes and QuickTime. I've tried resetting user preferences. I even tried re-installing Leopard twice - once with an archive-and-install and once from the OSX combo update found here on the Apple site.
I also have two other problems that may be related, since they started happening around the same time the skipping did. Flash video on the web such as YouTube skips, and every time I quit iTunes, I get the "Saving iTunes Library" box for a long time - no too long, but long enough for the iMac shutdown process to time out.
These problems all started happening after I upgraded from Tiger to Leopard. It's strange because none of these problems appear on my Macbook, which shipped with Leopard.
If anyone can help me solve this problem, or even tell me what in the world iTunes is doing to slow down everything, I would be very grateful.

I don't think it has to do with ram. iTunes ran perfectly fine under Tiger, and there are no spikes in memory usage when iTunes is running, even if other applications are open at the same time.

  • Create iTunes Workflow to "Skip When Shuffling?"

I've been searching the forums, but haven't found a response yet. I'm a novice at Automator, as I've just switched from Panther to Tiger. Is it possible to create a workflow to mark a series of "songs" (in my case, the list of iTrip frequencies) to "Skip When Shuffling" so that they don't show up in the Party Shuffle or play when shuffling all songs? It's a lot of "songs" to go through manually. Thanks!
    Curt

    ibosket,
I was able to accomplish the turning off of the iTrip frequencies by doing the following:
    Automater Actions
    1) Find Songs in iTunes Action(Find: Songs; Whose: Playlist is Library and Whose: Album is equal to iTrip
    2) Run AppleScript Action with the following AppleScript copied from the Script Editor and replacing the complete text in the Automator "Run AppleScript" action and not just where it says (* Your script goes here *).
    click here to open this script in your editor<pre style="font-family: 'Monaco', 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; overflow:auto; color: #222; background: #DDD; padding: 0.2em; font-size: 10px; width:400px">on run {input, parameters}
    tell application "iTunes"
    repeat with aTrack in input
set enabled of aTrack to false
    end repeat
    end tell
    return input
    end run</pre>

  • Hiccupping/skipping when I play the first file upon login (iTunes 7.0.2)

When I first logon and play an audio file on iTunes, it hiccups after about two seconds. After that it plays fine, but it's seriously annoying - it makes me think there's something wrong. Has anyone else had this happen to them?
    Thanks for any input.

I figured out what the problem was.
My audio interface is what skips. Perhaps it's initializing itself and there's a delay. When I plug straight into my headphone jack, there's no problem. But when I try listening through my audio interface, it skips.

  • HT1567 Itunes 10.6.1.7 is not recognising an Audio CD when inserted in the drive. This means I connot import any CD's. What could be wrong?

iTunes 10.6.1.7 is not recognising an audio CD when inserted in the drive. This means that I cannot import CD's. It used to work but since installing other software iTunes does not see the audio CD and will not open the drive when "eject disc" is selected from the controls menu.

Check the drive letter of your CD drive.  iTunes doesn't seem to work properly with CD drives if they are mapped to the letters A or B.  Use Disk Management tool in windows to change to a different letter and this will fix it (if this is the cause!).

  • I had purchased an audio book from itunes on my iPad and when I synced my iPad with my computer, my audiobook disappeared. I have already purchased this audiobook, so now I just need to know how to get it back because it is not on iPad anymore.

I had purchased an audio book from itunes on my iPad and when I synced my iPad with my computer, my audiobook disappeared. I have already purchased this audiobook, so now I just need to know how to get it back because it is not on iPad anymore. I don't think the audiobook was backed up to icloud but I have the receipt to prove I purchased it. Is there anyway I can get it back?

"If I purchase an audio book in iTunes on my iPad why can't I listen to it on my Mac? "
You can.  Why do you think you cannot?
If you purchased it on your ipad, then you would have to transfer it to your computer. File>Devices>Transfer Purchases.
You can then listen to it on your computer.

  • KERNEL PANIC WHEN ATTEMPTING TO BURN AUDIO CD IN ITUNES & TOAST

This computer has recently been fully updated to the latest MacOS 10.3.9
This includes the latest version of Quicktime 7 iTunes 6 and Toast 6 Titanium
Prior to that the external usb TEAC CD-RW (Amacom Baby CD-RW) was not recognised in either iTunes or Toast. After consultation with Amacom the usb cable firmware was updated and all was resolved.
Now having completed these recent updates when I attempt to burn a cd a KERNEL PANIC occurs
    On seperate occasions:
In iTunes the bar indicates ‘writing audio tracks’ when it changes to ‘burning’ the kernel panic occurs
Toast indicates ‘writing cd’ and then commences burning and the kernel panic occurred
Toast also burnt one cd and gave the message ‘your cd is ready’ eject – I did this and another kernel panic occurred
I have run the the original MacOS intall disk Utilities verify and repair permissions but this problem still occurs
    Power Mac G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

so you realize kernel panics have specific causes. The kernels we get on our FCP machines have always been followed by graphics card meltdowns or some other horrible hardware failure.
I cannot begin to imagine why iTunes would initiate a kernel shutdown unless the optical drive is going bad. Have you tried other tasks that use the drive such as playing DVDs?
Try deleting the preferences for iTunes?

  • Can iTunes give audio notification when device sync finishes?

I'd like to get audio feedback when my device sync completes. So far, I haven't found any setting in Mavericks setting or in iTunes settings to do configure it to make a sound when it finished syncing.
Is there something that I missed, or is it impossible?

There is currently no option to set that would provide a sound when the sync is complete. You can send you suggestion to Apple, however:

  • ITunes 11.0.1 - Song not bold and skips when album played.

iTunes 11.0.1 - Song not bold and skips when album played.
Song is in light grey font, not black.  The song (let's call it track 3) will play when selected, but when playing the album, it skips from track 2 to track 4.  Bought album on iTunes.

If you right mouse click on the greyed out song and select Check Selection from the bottom of the list all will be well. iTunes does not play unchecked songs
