Audio/Slide Timing Issue in Captivate 4

I have created the following:
A master file in Captivate 4.
Each slide in the master file contains an audio file and a .swf file (also published in Captivate 4).
The master file contains all highlight boxes and audio files.
I have four highlight boxes on a slide in the master file. The corresponding .swf file contains five slides.
Two of the highlight boxes must appear on the first slide of the external .swf.
The next highlight box must appear on the third slide of the external .swf.
The last highlight box must appear on the fourth slide of the external .swf.
When I preview the external .swf project (the five slides) from itself, everything works fine. The audio syncs properly when the highlight boxes appear and the slides change according to their own timing.
However, when I import the .swf into the master file, and run it from there, here is what happens:
The slides in the external .swf do not even all appear. The last one is nowhere to be found. The highlight boxes, of course, appear and disappear according to their properties. But the external slides will not cooperate.
So basically, what I have is audio synced up with the highlight boxes in the master file, but no way to coordinate the syncing of the slides in the external .swf with the audio and highlight boxes in the master file.
Can anyone help?

First thing to check is the frame rate of your master file and external files.  They should match otherwise they will be playing at different speeds.
But quite frankly, even if the frame rates DO match, I think you're strategy of having Captivate SWFs playing inside another Captivate movie and expecting everything to sync up properly is doomed to frustration.  SWFs inserted into a Captivate movie don't necessarily play as you would expect.  The longer the duration of the SWF, the more chance it will be out of sync with the main project.
My honest suggestion is to build all of your slides in the one project.  Insert SWFs only for small animations.

  • Keynote 6.5 Audio/GFX timing issue

I've created a presentation in Keynote 6.22 which has an audio file playing, and a graphic appearing whilst it plays, cued to a specific moment in the audio file (the speakers name).
It works fine on 6.22, but when I run it in 6.5, the audio file stops playing when the graphic appears....
Anyone know of a fix for this?

Reset by deleting the graphic and sound file and replace with originals.

  • IPhone Audio Recording Timing Issues

Hi, I recently recorded a concert and also had someone filming on an iPhone. I'm syncing up the tracks now and I've found that the iPhone gets out of sync every 30 seconds or so. The iPhone recording seems to be a little slower than the actual recording. I can fix it by just splicing the iPhone file every 30s and realigning it, I'm just wondering why this happens. Thanks!

Look at the SignalScope app, I believe they have the specs. Supposedly the regular phone mike is filtered above 8khz, but I think the headset mike/audio in may go up to 44. I think the recorder sample app used 16-bit at 44.1 or 48.

  • 508 Compliance issue: Subtitling Captivate Slides, esp for Breeze

My organization is designing a software demonstration for the
Department of Labor, so our work must be 508 compliant. I think I
can make our simulation work with screen readers, but I must also
include subtitles for the audio instructions in order to make it
fully 508 compliant. Is it possible to include a separate notes
pane when publishing from Captivate to Breeze?
In the past, when we've published our PowerPoint
presentations to Breeze, the end user is able to determine whether
or not to display the notes for the audio, and when they do, a
separate pane opens underneath the presentation. I can't seem to
duplicate this feature in Captivate. The software we're explaining
takes up a great deal of the screen real estate-- placing text
boxes over the simulation would not work. Any ideas or suggestions?
    Thanks!

    Hello again Scott
    Here's the deal.
    1. The workaround I'm about to present was not developed by
me. It was developed by my friend and colleague John Daigle. I just
don't want to take credit that isn't due.
    2. This workaround hasn't seemed to work for some folks. Why
    isn't clear yet.
    So here goes.
Publish your output to a temporary folder. When you publish,
make sure that you have selected Flash Player 7 where you see Flash
Player Version. It is normally the default, so unless you
specifically changed it, you shouldn't need to change it. But it's
critical that this version appear here. Otherwise, the process is
    moot.
After you publish, back in the Captivate project, wherever
you have a full motion clip, insert a blank slide immediately
preceding the full motion clip. Configure the Slide timing to match
the full motion clip. Note the name of the full motion clip.
On the new Blank slide, click Insert > Animation... and
browse to that temporary folder you created earlier when you
published. Insert the corresponding full motion clip you should
    find there.
Delete the slide with the original full motion clip.
Rinse and repeat until all slides with full motion clips have
been eradicated and you have new slides consisting of the "other"
    full motion clips you published.
Now publish again. Again, be sure you choose Flash Player 7.
Assuming this works for you, you should end up with a single
.SWF that is the sum of all the former .SWF files. The only real
exception to this is if you used some of the supplied Flash
Animation. A few of those here and there will still result in
    additional .SWF files.
Give that a go and let us know how you fare. As I said
earlier, others have tried this and it failed for them. Which
puzzled me, because it works for John and myself.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Audio Issues in Captivate 4 on Vista

    Hi,
Just wondering if there is a fix out yet to deal with the audio issues in Captivate 4 - I'm running on regular Vista - editing audio in Soundbooth, importing MP3 files into Captivate - clicks and pops abound. Really frustrating and annoying. Is anyone working on improving this and other Captivate 4 annoyances?
    Thanks,
    Marianne

    Hi Chip
    Glad it worked for you.
For what it's worth, you will likely find it has nothing to do with Acrobat. I've seen it happen with RoboHelp and with Captivate and other software. Likely something failed during a recent software install of a different package. Unfortunately the symptom appears with a legitimate and soundly installed package.
Good luck in getting it sorted... Rick

  • Issues with Captivate 5 and the Audio Editor

I downloaded the trial for Captivate 5 (I previously used Captivate 4) and I am disappointed with the recorded audio editor.
(Please excuse the incorrect terms that I might use.) In Captivate 4 when editing recorded voice, the sound waves were bigger so editing them to remove breaths was easier. Now the sound waves are so small (even after adjusting the Zoom to 100) I cannot really see the breaths to insert silence.
Also, I am constantly having adjust the volume and increase the dB level to make the audio louder and easier to hear, which I did not have to do with Captivate 4 (and I am using the same equiptment and set up). It seems as though Cativate 5 is softening the recorded voice and I don't need that.
I feel like Capticate 5 has lost functionality the with the above when sound editing, which doesn't seem right to me. Is there a way to fix these two issues in Captivate 5 so it functions more like Captivate 4?
    Thank you,
    Amanda

I agree.  I much prefered the Captivate 4 functionality and would like to see some iprovement in CS5.

  • How to get the "audio import option" back in Captivate 7

I need to insert audio over 4 slides in a 43 slide presentaton.  How do I get the "audio Import option" back so I can do this?

    Hi there
Look at the timing for the slide. If the slide duration is long enough to accommodate the audio clip you will not see this dialog. The only way I've ever seen it occur is to ensure that the slide duration is shorter than the audio clip.
For example, try inserting a blank slide timed for one second. As long as the audio clip is longer than that, you should see the dialog when inserting the clip. But if the audio clip would play for three seconds and the slide itself is perhaps ten seconds long, there is no need to present the dialog.

  • Java Audio Metronome | Timing and Speed Problems

    Hi all,
I’m starting to work on a music/metronome application in Java and I’m running into some problems with the timing and speed.
For testing purposes I’m trying to play two sine wave tones at the same time at regular intervals, but instead they play in sync for a few beats and then slightly out of sync for a few beats and then back in sync again for a few beats.
From researching good metronome programming, I found that Thread.sleep() is horrible for timing, so I completely avoided that and went with checking System.nanoTime() to determine when the sounds should play.
I’m using AudioSystem’s SourceDataLine for my audio player and I’m using a thread for each tone that constantly polls System.nanoTime() in order to determine when the sound should play. I create a new SourceDataLine and delete the previous one each time a sound plays, because the volume fluctuates if I leave the line open and keep playing sounds on the same line. I create the player before polling nanoTime() so that the player is already created and all it has to do is play the sound when it is time.
In theory this seemed like a good method for getting each sound to play on time, but it’s not working correctly.
At the moment this is just a simple test in Java, but my goal is to create my app on mobile devices (Android, iOS, Windows Phone, etc)...however my current method isn’t even keeping perfect time on a PC, so I’m worried that certain mobile devices with limited resources will have even more timing problems. I will also be adding more sounds to it to create more complex rhythms, so it needs to be able to handle multiple sounds going simultaneously without sounds lagging.
Another problem I’m having is that the max tempo is controlled by the length of the tone since the tones don’t overlap each other. I tried adding additional threads so that every tone that played would get its own thread...but that really screwed up the timing, so I took it out. I would like to have a way to overlap the previous sound to allow for much higher tempos.
I posted this question on StackOverflow where I got one reply and my response back explains why I went this direction instead of preloading a larger buffer (which is what they recommended). In short, I did try the buffer method first, but I want to also update a “beat counter” visual display and there was no way to know when the hardware was actually playing the sounds from the buffer. I mentioned that on StackOverflow and I also asked a couple more questions regarding the buffer method, but I haven’t received any more responses.

  • Set default slide timing to .5 second

Can anyone tell me how to set the default slide timing to 1
second or less? No matter what options I choose, slide timing is
always determined by how long it takes me to click on the next
target. Ideally, I'd like to set the slide timing to be very short,
then have the timing of the objects I add determined slide length.
    Thanks for your help,
    Julie

Hi Julie and happy HannuChristmaKwanzaYule to you!
There is only one place I'm aware of that any slide timing
default may be set. In Captivate 2, you look at Project >
    Preferences... > Defaults tab.
In Captivate 3, you look at Edit > Preferences... >
    Project node.
In both places you will find a place to configure the default
slide time. This has no effect on any existing slides and I don't
believe it will factor into the mix when recording. Also it would
appear the minimum limit is one second. The only places this seems
to take effect are when inserting Blank slides and when creating a
    Blank project.
Hopefully this helps a smidge! Rick

  • Score Issues between Captivate 4 and 5

    Hi Everyone,
We are noticing an issue between Captivate 4 and 5 and we can't seem to figure out what is going on, this issue is with Captivate modules that have no quiz and the completion status is based only on a % of slide views.  We publish as SCORM with complete/incomplete and report percent.
With these types of modules created in Captivate 4, the LMS would record a completion and a N/A score.  Now, for those created in Captivate 5, the LMS receives a 0% score and the completion.  Our end users are really confused as to why they see a 0%.  Any ideas on what may be causing this?  The LMS is Taleo Learn, formerly Learn.com's LearnCenter.
Any assitance would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Connor

If you can't download any old versions by logging into your account then clearly these have been discontinued.  Your best bet is ask somebody to lend you their CD/DVD which you can copy for your safe keeping.
Old products are always discontinued and that is why you should always buy them on a CD/DVD so that they can installed whenever you have a new system or you have a system crash.
    Good luck.

  • Any possible issues using Captivate 4 on Vista 64-bit OS?

    Hi:
Looking to order a new PC and load up on ram for Captivate 4 and some other applications I am using.
I realize Captivate 4 is not certified for use on a Vista 64 bit OS, but I am wondering if I will run into a bunch of performance issues or what your experience may be using C4 on a 64 bit machine.  I heard it is possible to force Captivate 4 to run as a 32bit application, but I don't know specifically how to do it.
    Any feedback is appreciated.

None that I found.  I worked with adobe for a while and they sent me a couple of patchs that were supposed to fix the problem, and while I eventually could record audio, I never was able to edit it.  Adobe eventually lost interest and stopped responding to my requests.  I think it has something to do with Vista becasue I am running xp on a brand new 64bit Mac at home and it works fine.

  • Final Cut Audio/Video sync issues

Yes, I realize this has been discussed before, but for the life of me I cannot find the answer. So here we go.
    - FC version is 7.0.2
    - OSX is 10.6.3
    - Processor 2.8 Ghz Intel Core Duo 2
    - Memory 4 GB 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
I have used FC before and well acquainted. Recently I took a brush up course and used material provided in a book DVD. Had no issues while practice editing with this material.
Now have material saved I want to edit with. All video is saved on an external and in MOV format. No worries getting in imported in FC. However, every video I use starts to audio slide and by the time it reaches around halfway, full blown out of sync. Not by much, but it's definitely there.
I even took these videos and re-saved them in MOV format and same thing. With all this RAM there should be no need to shut anything down, but I did so. Same thing.
The interesting part is when using the test videos that were supplied on DVD and were imported into the MAC, no worries. Now I AM bringing those videos over from a saved file on the MAC itself, but that should make no difference. When bringing over the external movies into FC, they should react without a hitch.
Here's the fun part. ALL of these videos play perfectly on IMovie. All of them. So this makes me think there's something in the FC settings at work here. Then again, why did it not fault before?
One more thing. I recently upgraded to Snow Leopard and have seen a few glitchy items here and there. But this is the oddest.
Would really appreciate thoughts and suggestions. Frustration is setting in. And thanks

The first thing I'd check is to make sure the audio clip's settings and the FCP Sequence settings match. For example, if you use AIFF 32khz, 12 bit audio in an FCP Sequence set at AIFF 48khz, 16 bit, the audio WILL be out of sync as you describe.

  • Audio Video synchronization issues

    Hi,
I have a video application that I am building - and
previously I used FMS and TCP connections for video. Now expecting
the latency to be much lesser with UDP, I implemented UDP in my
application and stratus as the RTMFP capable server. I used the
sample video phone application's tutorial do a simple sendStream
    and receiveStream for video.
However, unlike the hosted sample application itself, my
audio and video are completely out of synchronization - about 4
secs!! I tried to look at the sample code to see if there were any
special settings that were made. I could not find any.
    My questions:
    1. Did Adobe make any special tweaks in their hosted sample
application? If so, what are they?
    2. Are there any known synchronization issues with using
    RTMFP connections for video?
    3. Does anyone else also face audio video synchronization
    issues?
    4. If none of the above is true, what do you think my
mistakes are? Please let me know if I need to add more information
    to answer this question.
    Thanks in advance.
    Rohan

with RTMFP, video and audio can go out of sync if the data
rate of your stream exceeds your network capacity. video is
currently sent with 100% reliability, so once it's queued for
transmission, it's going to be sent (eventually). video is lower
priority than audio, though, so your audio data gets first dibs on
your network capacity. if the video stream's data rate is higher
than what fits in your network (after audio), the video data will
back up until its send buffer is filled, and new camera frames will
stop getting captured. in the steady state, this can look like a
multi-second offset between the video and audio.
try turning your video rate/quality down so that it fits in
your network capacity. video and audio should stay in sync.
with RTMP, there's one network transmission buffer (TCP's)
for all of the parts of your stream (audio & video). when you
have insufficient network bandwidth, the TCP buffer will eventually
fill up and video frames will stop being captured to compensate. so
while audio and video might remain in sync, the total end-to-end
latency will go up. when using RTMFP, the audio and video have
independent transmission buffers, so in cases of insufficient
network resources, the higher-priority audio should remain more
timely but video may fall behind.

I am modifying the correct httpd.conf file on the server, it just doesn't seem to work. - If I put the rewrite rules in the <Directory /> the rewrite works but it adds /Library/WebServer/Documents to the URL.
I also tried putting the rewrite rules in <IfModule mod_rewrite.c> but that did not work either.
mod_rewrite is enabled and running on the server.
I will post the rewrite rules again in the code brackets. Sorry for the long post. - If some one can try them out on their Leopard Server to see if they can get them to work, it would be much appreciated. Again, these work on my Leopard Client but I can't get them to work on Server.
