Audio slides to either left or right for no reason

On my powerbook the audio setting slides a bit to the left or right for no apparent reason. I'll just be listening to itunes and all of a sudden the sound is coming out more left or right without warning or reason. I've locked my prefernces and it still happens. I write music as well using Ableton Live and it happens then too and that's a real pain in the butt. It all started at first when my friend installed his version of Tiger on my powerbook. Then I reinstalled my original os and everthing was fine. Then due to needing Tiger to run a new Synthesizer properly I had to buy my own copy of Tiger which I did from mac directly. And low and behold the same problems are back. As well my keyboard stopped lighting up when I first installed Tiger, then worked again when I installed the original, and back to crap with the new Tiger....

I also experience what might be the same problem.
For me, the balance slides all the way to either the right or left. I suspect it happens when I plug the computer into a new display or sound configuration. For example, the audio will work fine in my office with headphones, and then when I get home, plug into the projector and speakers, the audio will be all the way to the left.
Maybe there's some mystery keystroke shortcut we're doing by accident?
I'd very much appreciate help with this annoying problem.

I strongly agree and missed the three-finger swipe. I managed to figure it out, with some searching online and in preferences. Here's how I got it back.
1. In the Trackpad Preference, go to the third tab, "More Gestures".
2. Mouse over "Swipe between full-screen apps". It will show a short demo video.
3. Just below, where it says "Swipe left or right with three fingers" you can click to change the shortcut. Change it to "Swipe left or right with four fingers".
4. Mouse up to "Swipe between pages". Change its shortcut to "Swipe left or right with three fingers".
5. Rock and roll.
FYI, the default seems to be "Scroll left or right with two fingers". That invokes an animation, and uses Apple's new "natural" scrolling direction. To me, it's not natural, because then I move my fingers backwards (to the left) to go forwards in my history.

My nano has boxes around its icons and I can't slide to the left or right. I've tried resetting and restoring it but nothing seems to work. What do I do?

My nano has boxes around its icons, even the around the time. When I tap into my Songs or Now Playing, I can't get out because I can't slide either to the left or to the right. It appeared after I transferred some songs from my iPod to iTunes. I've tried resetting and restoring it but nothing seems to work. HELP.

And the voice over's activated and it tells me to double tap things to select them.

Is there a way to access all the items in the tools section without seeing all the options? That is to say can one use keyboard for functions? My tools menu doesn't scroll down, only goes from left to right for one page and no more options.

I can't seem to view web pages. I noticed when I clicked on the tools menu I don't get the usual drop down menu of choices. I get a horizontal listing of options with a white background. I suspect the issue may be somewhere in some settings of my tool bar or the way the system displays web pages.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes). 
See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and [[Troubleshooting plugins]] 
 
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears. 
You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions. 
You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

Is it really necessary not to have admin rights for security reasons

I was told that i need to create a second admin account then log into that, then from there take away my admin privileges.. so I would not be an admin so computer will be much safer.
Which i did
But then so many passwords all the time.. need to insert the admin password for so many things and it is annoying it is like vista which i don't like at all.
is this really important to keep computer secure?
what are your leopard security tips?

You should have left your original account alone and created a second non-admin user account for day-to-day use. Any non-system apps you need, etc, you can install in the new account.
It's not easy switching horses in mid-stream so to speak, but it is safer than always using the computer as an administrator.
If you use Fast Switching, you can quickly access the original account anytime you wish.

Yes. Security should come before convenience.
Again, you are getting all this requests for passwords because you changed you main account rather than creating a new one.

My 4th gen ipod touch has started to quit right for no reason.

My ipod 4th gen has developed a mind of its own. Doesn't matter what I might be doing it will just quit and go to a black screen. Wait a few seconds and it will restart. I have upgraded to ios 6.0 hoping that the problem would go away, no luck.
I tried to do a restore and got a message telling me that it could not be completed. Tired a few more times same message about the server. Any help appreciated.

Audio Effect - Left to Right Audio?

I love the new audio effects in iMovie but it would be great if there was a simply one that will allow you to make your audio channel either left or right. Or have one like you do with the rooms that just doubles the channels without any room changes.

So am I right I can not switch between two audio channels in iMovie 11?
I have two audio tracks in my video files: left - english (usually), right - russian (usually).
I need to do the following:
1. In one file I need to leave only one track and expand this one onto two tracks to make the stereo effect.
2. In other file I need to switch between left and right tracks from time to time (the languages are changing between channel in this file): sometime I need to leave left track, sometime - right.
I can not do this in iMovie 11?
May I do this in Final Cut Express?

Muse widget selection dial or left and right slider selector

Hello, I am looking for a muse widget that lets a user slide a lever left and right or In a circle like a dial to make a selection. For example, if the range is from 300 to 700, the user will slide the lever on the left and on the right to say he likes the range of 450 to 500. How do I search for that type of widget? Actually I do not have a shop. . I was looking for a range slider widget
with handles on the left and right side. That was just a sample. I
found some code online but I'm not a programmer. The slider let you say
select 10 for a min and 59 for a max. And the slider range was from -100 to
+100. Does that make more sense.

How can I combine Left and Right audio?

Hi,
When I record video, one lapel mic records to the left channel and the other records to the right channel in one audio track. I can't seem to figure out how to combine them within Premiere Pro (I've already attempted searching the forums for more info). I know in Sony Vegas you can right click the single audio track and select "Combine" and it will combine the 2 channels so that when people watch the end product you have both voices coming out of both speakers.
Any help would be appreciated.

Yes i have the same issue.
I use the duplicate Audio track and fill left and right all the time.
when i am doing Interview videos i usually have one person on channel 1 and the other on channel 2 and it comes out as L and R in Premiere.
Today i was shooting with myself on Channel 2 and a shotgun for some ambient sound on channel 1.
In Vegas or FCP 7 there is a simple effect to drag and drop called " Combine" that nicely combines the L and R channels each into stereo.
I used to use it quite a bit and think it would be a great addition to Premiere Pro.
So i am wondering several years since this was first post if Premiere does in fact now have this option...and where it might be that i over looked it?
If not.....is there an easier way to do this than the fill left and right method?

All of a sudden I cannot pan sounds left or right. All audio is centered.

I am using logic pro 7 and I tried panning my midi or audio files to the left or right and all sound it centered in the middle. I lost my ability to pan sounds. Any suggestions?

Maybe try looking at your mixer, see if the "mono" buttong is on. Or if you have a Digi002, that the "mono" button is active.

Editing Left Or Right Channel Individualy

OK- so this is the first updated version of Cool Edit I have used since 2.0 (Prior to Adobe's acquisition)
What am I doing wrong? Why cant I edit the Left or Right channel independently from one and other?
In Cool Edit you could just click on the individual channel and select it .... Whats the Trick With SoundBooth?

I am looking to do the exact same thing as Nathan and I have read the response. However, being a novice to this, I have no idea how to implement what you are suggesting.
I have tried using the help system, for Soundbooth on my Mac, but that doesn't tell me anything.
Can you give me a few more detailed steps on how to (simply) insert a 1/100th of a second silence into the beginning of either left or right track?
I've just spent over two VERY frustrating hours trying to do this. Like Nathan I had also used Cool Edit on my PC (before I dumped it to buy a Mac) and had done this with great ease previously.

Page shifting (or bouncing) left to right?

I just completed a revision of my website: http://www.sharibeaubien.com.
There's something odd happening that I can't understand how to fix...
When the site loads in Firefox and the viewer is paging through the main navigation (index, portfolio, bio, and galleries pages) the page jumps slightly either left or right when navigating to/from the "Galleries" page.
I notice in Safari and Opera that the shift happens differently. In these two browsers, the "Portfolio" page and the "Bio" page are consistent with one another while the "Galleries" page and "Index" page are consistent with one another. Navigate between those two groups, however, and the jump happens.
My husband checked the site on Internet Explorer at work and he says there is no shift anywhere.
I've poured over the code and I just can't come up with a reason why this is ocurring.
Any help you can provide would be most appreciated!

How do i isolate Left and right sound on X-Fi ca

Hey all,
Wonder if anyone knows how to turn off left channel sound and vice versa. I play alot of Karaoke VCDs and they usually have left channel as music and right channel as music with vocal but i can't find the option to turn off either left or right.
I usually do this by using the L/R slider in wondows mixer but when i do this with the X-Fi card the left channel (music only) seems to be a mix of L&R resulting in hearing the vocal. Strangly this doesn't happen when playing in Power DVD the slider method works fine, but with apps like real player, media player, media source etc. the problem presists.
Any Ideas? Appriciate any help ^.^

I've tried turning off cmss but it still doesn't do the job. I find it strange that there is no problem with Power DVD but with other applications. Does this mean it might be a application problem?

In Final Cut Pro X 10.1.1 I'm trying to separate left and right stereo tracks to delete left and pan right to centre. I cannot find a way to do this.

I record in stereo with a 10KHz tone down the left channel to defeat AGC on my camera and mic feed into the right channel. When I edit, I want to mute/delete the left channel and pan the right into the centre, to leave me with mono audio across both left and right. I could do this easily in FCP 6 but can find no way to do it in FCP X. I'm using the same source files. When I choose Dual Mono mode in the Audio Inspector, it mixes left and right and pushes the combined signal into both channels, giving me a mix of 10KHZ tone and audio in both left and right. Stereo mode shows me the two channels correctly with one driven hard (the tone) and the other at good voice levels. I just want to kill the left channel and pan the right to centre.
I'm converting original TOD files using MPEG Streamclip before import and definitely keeping audio as stereo.
This is driving me nuts! It should be simple and is in FCP 6. Any help greatly appreciated.

Mb - If you're using FCPX 10.1.1 and Mavericks, make certain you've downloaded the most current Sony XDCAM FCPX plugin from sonycreativesortware.com unless you're using an older version of FCPX and then you'd need the previous XDCAM plugin.
You shouldn't see 8 mono tracks. There are import settings in /fCPX that you can check and I don't ask FCPX to analyze my media or seperate mono or combine stereo, etc. I like to have everything come in as it is, especially because I know what I've done with every channel, etc.
What I wrote to Ian is what I'd tell you - so please take a look at how you can make a "stereo" track that is actually two mono tracks, mono. Once you do that you can address each mono channel by itself since it needs different volume, compression, and EQ than other channels.
There are ethernet, USB, and firewire controllers that work in FCPX, but that's not the typical workflow because generally if you're getting into any amount of post audio sweetening beyond basic "staples" audio treatment, you would instead use "Roles" to export your audio to Logic or Pro Tools and do you work in those applications and then cut the final product back into your FCPX project. In Logic or Pro Tools is where you might use a controller.
In terms of automating levels, I'm not positive I know what you mean. Compressor is a nice internal Logic plugin that kind of automates levels in a way but its about compressing peaks at a threshold that you set and at a ratio of compression. So I may not understand what other automation is available unless you've exported you tracks to Logic or Pro Tools.
