Audio slowly goes out of sync over time

My capture segments are only 10-15 minutes long. However, my audio drifts out of sync and is severe at approx. 3 minutes with no dropped frames.

hi
i have exactly the same problem...
Im in really trouble with a project. I am producing a fitness dvd and the soundtrack is eating up frames in common to my video, where i try to syncronize the sound from. Its totally strange for me and i have no solution and answer why this is happening. And worst of all: no solution. The customer which - of course - is not satisfied.
I have NO clue what to do. Can anyone help?
the footage is taken from Sony HVR-V1E in HDV and the soundtrack is taken from a dedicated made CD and converted to MP3 before putted into finalcut. If i convert it to aiff instead it gives me files around 1 frame shorter than the mp3 files. "Sync Audio Capture to Video Source if Present" is on as well, like "thedirtyduo"s has.
Im lost (too)

  • Sound slowly goes out of sync

Have a movie that I have run through compressor 3 as both an .avi and as an .MP4. Then burn in DVDSP 4.2. The video and sound are in sync for the first half of the movie and then slowly goes out of sync. It gets worse as the movie goes on. Anyway to correct this?
    Thank you.

The normal process would be to export a self-contained or reference movie from FCP, then use the resulting file in Compressor and choose the appropriate DVD preset based on the duration of your movie. Compressor will create the needed MPEG-2 (.m2v) video file and AC3 audio file for use in DVD Studio Pro.
MP4 is NOT a format used for DVDs and AVI is a Windows video container - neither are recommended for DVD Studio Pro.

  • Linked video audio clip goes out of sync when put in timeline - why?

Learning to use Final Cut Express. Clip plays in browser with audio in time with video but as soon as clip is dragged onto timeline the audio goes out of sync. Why? Please can anyone help because its driving me mad!

You don't give any details as to FCE's settings, camera format or your workflow so I can only hazard a guess.
One of the main reasons that audio goes out of sync is because the Easy Setup audio settings do not match the camera's audio settings.
The default setting is for 16bit (48KHz) but your camera may be shooting 12bit (32KHz audio).
If this is the case you need to recapture using the 32KHz Easy Setup.

  • Audio slowly drifts out of sync with video

I have a long continuous video clip (.MP4) that has an audio sample rate of 48 kHz. Separately, I have an audio clip (.mp3) for that take that was recorded at 44.1 kHz.
I created a sequence in Premiere with the .MP4 making sure the sequence's audio sample rate was set to 48. I brought the .mp3 into Audition where I used Edit > Convert Sample Type to change it to 48 kHz.
Back in Premiere, I dragged the converted .mp3 into the sequence and the audio still drifted out of sync toward the end of the clip.
Am I missing a step? How can I make sure the audio and video are in sync throughout rather than just in the beginning?

Two independent record devices will not stay perfectly synchronous over a long period of time unless locked via timecode or a sync cable.
A solution is to scroll to the end of the clips and adjust the speed of the mp3 file (making it run slightly faster or slower) until the end of the camera audio and mp3 audio coincide.

  • Audio is/goes out of sync

    Hi guys,
Brand new user to Premiere Pro CS 5.5
I took some clips off my Galaxy Nexus that I shot the other day and wanted to cut them into a short video so I imported them into Premiere.
When I play them in Premiere the audio appears to be in sync at the very beginning of the video but as it progresses through it seems to be worse and worse out of sync as it goes along. Even in a short 1 minute clip.
When I play these raw video files in something like XBMC or the standard Windows 8 media player, or even just on my phone there don't see to be any problems with the audio/video being out of sync what so ever.
I tested this out with several random clips recorded on my phone and it seems ALL of them are doing this in Premiere no matter the duration of the video.
Why is this happening and how do I prevent/correct it?
    Thank you

  • Flash/Youtube videos - sound out of sync over time -[CHROME]

Hi - i have some problems with videos in Chrome - when i watch videos - the sound gets out of sync from the video over time - in the start of the video the sound is perfect in sync - but after about 7 min the sound plays around 1-3 seconds before the video. it seems like the sound is playing at 100% speed but the video is only playing at 99% speed so the sound slowly gets more and more out of sync - have tried disableling flash in chrome in chrome://plugins but no result - have updated drivers

A/V sync is hard, and there are hundreds of ways to encode a video.  Adobe provides guidance on how to best publish content to ensure that it consistently plays back well, but that's an uphill battle.
A direct link to the problem video is the most useful information you could provide in this case, along with details about your system.  It would also be useful to know if the A/V sync problem goes away if you disable hardware acceleration, as described in the video troubleshooting guide.

  • Video and audio slowly go out of sync

im trying ot make encore dvds the first one I made worked fine but now whenever I make a dvd the video and audio slowly drift apart as it plays.
ive tried converting the audio to AC3 but it did not help. Ive also tried various formats like vob, mp4 and avi.
    does anyone have a solution?

This may or may not work but give it a try.  I'm not sure what software you used to create the video file that you sent to Encore
but I'll assume that it is Premier CS3 or CS4.
    Here's what I would do.
    1) output your sequence two ways.  a) seperate Mv2 & Audio file, b) One single AVI file.  Use media Encoder, DO NOT USE DYNAMIC LINK!
    2) Import each one into encore.  NOTE:  The mv2 file will NOT have to be transcoded.
    3) Set each one up on a seperate timeline.
    4) Play each time line.  See if they go out of sync. If they do, make sure that you perform the following.
    5) Place each timeline onto a menu.  label each one so you know which is which (i.e., MV2, AVI)
    5) Burn the project to an image file (don't waste a DVD).
Next try playing the DVD using a seperate DVD player (NOT ADOBE)
Test each timeline.  See if they work or fail.
It sounds like a lot of work but once you know which way works, stick with it!

  • Sound goes out of sync in playback, why???

I have just bought the new MacBook Pro 13" with the i7 dual core 2.8
and bought Final Cut X from the app store - Im playing around with some footage shot on the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ7
Ive put in a few edits with transitions, some titles and added sound effects.
In playback, the sound slowly goes out of sync!  After only about 10 seconds...
The vision lags while the sound keeps going, there is some flickering, then its worse.
If I pause playback, then resume it resets...
    Any ideas?
    cheers, David

I have also experienced this.  Not on every video.  But on some videos.
The sync slowly drifts.  Then hit pause and then play, and sure enough, the picture and sound are back in sync again.
This tells me that if you export ("share") the movie, the sound will be fine (it was for me).  But it is unnerving to preview your work and see and hear the picture and sound drift out of sync like that.
I don't know the answer of why it happens (or how to remedy it), but my hunch is it has something to do with either not enough memory (or processing power), or a slightly underpowered video card.  Just a guess.
I guess in any of those cases, the remedy would be to upgrade to a more powerful computer.  :-(

  • 10.6.8: audio goes out of sync in Netflix streaming and *.avi files

    Hello,
This began happening a couple of weeks ago and it's maddening!  There haven't been any software changes or anything recently.
At first I thought it was just a Netflix problem, or perhaps an internet connection problem.  Audio will at some point during play, 'skip', and play the same audio over again (i.e., "Hello, Ja-Hello, Jack!"), and from that point on, the audio is lagged behind the video just a bit.
Then I began watching some *.avi files on my HDD today, and the same thing is happening with them, too!  If I reload the browser or close and reopen the *.avi file, the audio will start out in sync again, but at some random point during playback, it will happen again.
Hope someone knows what's going on!  Thanks!
    Mid-2010 Macbook Pro 10.6.8

For anyone who's interested, I found a solution to this problem. Once imported into Encore, the leader in on the video and audio files cannot be trimmed at all. (I had been trimming the beginning of the video and matching audio file to eliminate the 8 seconds of dead space at the start of the clips.) Although the trim took effect immediately in the Encore timeline and I could also watch it in preview in sync, exporting was another story. The audio track seems to retain the trim when exporting but the video track does not, hence the 6-7 second delay between audio and video.
I reimported the files to my project and left in the 8 seconds of dead space at the start and voila! The video and audio match up when exported.
Ideally the trim tool would just work as its supposed to through export and all, but at least I found a solution I can work with.
(As a note, the trim works just fine in export on Encore CS5. I only had this problem with Encore CS6.)

  • Audio sync problems with greenscreen  I have replaced the camera audio with my zoom recorder audio and it is in sync. When I apply greenscreen the audio goes out of sync. What am i doing wrong?? So frustrating..Thanks, Peter

I have replaced the DSLR audio with audio from my Marantz recorder and it is in sync with the dialogue. I apply green screen and the audio goes out of sync. Cannot seem to make it work. what am I doing wrong? Thanks, Peter

Thanks for the reply. I don't have time for this. is it time to switch to a different editor?

  • HELP!  Audio goes out of sync after export!

OK, folks. I need your help. I have a looming deadline of THIS FRIDAY to hand this in.
I have a finished multicam edit of a show that runs 1 hr 20 min. It plays back perfectly in the timeline, all video and audio perfectly in sync. Looks and sounds exactly like what I need.
When I export the video as an H.264 file, the audio gets out of sync with the video by 13 frames! But that's not all... It doesn't happen to the entire audio track. There's about 50 minutes in the middle of the video where the audio goes out of sync. The audio at the beginning and ending of the video is lined up perfectly in sync. It's just the middle section that gets screwy.
    What do I do?!
This has never happened before, and I've worked a lot with multicam in Premiere Pro CC before this. Never been an issue. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Premiere, and also deleting all media cache files, but still no dice.  I also tried copying the clips into a new sequence in the same project, copying the clips into a new sequence in a NEW project, nesting the sequence... nothing works.
    My setup:
    MacBook Pro Retina (Rev. A)
    Premiere Pro CC (latest version)
Panasonic GH3 footage in 1080p 24p AVCHD timeline
3 cameras & 1 audio WAV file in Multicam
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

OK, I figured out how to fix it:
In Premiere Pro CC, click on SEQUENCE > DELETE RENDER FILES.
    Try exporting the movie again.
It worked! I exported the same sequence, and it took a long while to re-render the audio files, but when it was finished exporting the audio and video were in perfect sync. I'm not sure what caused it, but this fixed it, so hopefully anyone else having this issue can save a lot of time by reading this.
    Cheers!

  • Premiere CC export causes audio to go out of sync...mac & PC...various codecs...including flat passes...disk cache cleaned...render files deleted...what is going on?

    Hey all-
This is troubling. I'm getting slight audio shift every time I export a project. We noticed it originally when our sound guy brought in the OMF & realized the timecode and audio ended up coming out off by 3/4th of a frame. So we tested it...
    Exports to .movs / .mp4s / .mpegs
Brought them back in to the project....
Sound gets off by a 1/4th of a frame to 3/4th of a frame.
Then we started tested different files. Doing flat passes where NOTHING changed, just a re-export under the settings of the source file...
sound gets off by a 1/4th of a frame.
    Tried media encoder.
    same thing.
cleaned the disk cache...deleted render files
    same thing.
tried it on a new mac pro. tried it on a dell running windows 7.
    same.
    thing.
So is there a solve for this or should we just stop editing in Premiere? On a few occasions now I've had clients say "it seems like it goes out of sync right there" and I've gone back to the timeline and checked to see it was fine. Now I wonder if much of the work I've put out since I made the switch last year has fallen victim to this.
Is there any kind of solve for this? Should I just stop using premiere to cut? Because this is a deal breaker, especially if I'm going to have to rebuild the project I'm working on in another NLE.

avanishdivya thank you, but this did not help. I did exactly what you told me in both cases.
I haven't overclocked my pc and both of the suggested media encoder methods failed, my pc crashed and turned off...
    Any other suggestions ?

  • Video and audio goes out of sync when imported into Premiere

I have some videos ripped from some DVD that an acquaintance made, with an open source program called HandBrake, with the default "high profile" settings. When I play it both in VLC and in Quicktime, it plays just fine, but when I import it either in Premiere or in After effects, the video and audio goes out of sync (the video ran faster than the audio and when the video stops, the missing audio is trimmed).
Video info according to Premiere (in Spanish but you may get the meaning).
    Ruta del archivo: [...].m4v

"HandBrake, these days, is almost entirely about H.264 video, aka MPEG-4 Part 10.  HandBrake is migrating to quality-based encoding."
Hmmm.  I use HC Encoder to make my DVDs because it's the only free encoder I've found with the much more professional Constant Q encoding option.  But HC Encoder doesn't do HD sources for Blu-ray, so I've been wondering if I'd be stuck with the lame-*** consumer CBR and VBR options most encoders provide (including Adobe - hint, hint) when I eventually start working in HD.  This is a very interesting program, Handbrake.  I will have to check it out.

  • When audio goes out of sync..

In FCP7, when audio goes out of sync with the video track it came from (even when they are unlinked), a red warning box is displayed on the audio track and tells you how far out of sync it is, which easily enables you to resync.
Well, in FCX my audio went out of synce, but i didn't know it until i played back a segment i was working on, where i spliced two audio tracks and video tracks together. Right now i'm trying to fix the one audio track so that is synced up with its parent video track, but so far i'm just guessing that it's a good sync rather than knowing FOR SURE whether or not it's truly synced back up.
Is there any kind of work around, which enables you to resync in a manner similar to  before FCPX?
    Thanks

I am not sure if your problem has been solved already but here is the way to do that:
select in the clip in the timeline the part were the audio should be return in sync. use the blade-tool to make that part a seperate clip.
Higlight this clip in the timeline and use shift-F to highlight this clip in the browser. There it wil show up partially of course.
Use only the audio and put that part under the selected clip in the timeline where you need the original audio. remove the original out-of-sync audio.

  • Audio locked at playhead, but goes out of sync if video is cropped

    Hi,
Using iMovie HD 6, I have the audio locked at playhead, but if I crop part of the video (beginning or ending), the audio goes out of sync.
    Here's what I've done:
    1) Extracted audio from video
    2) Silenced this audio
    3) Imported audio from audio recorder (Edirol R-09HR)
    4) Synced the imported audio
*5) Attempted to crop part of the video footage in the timeline... goes out of sync
How do I keep the audio in sync when cropping video?
    Thanks!

Hi JohnDoe2009 - firstly, extracting the audio is not necessary in your case. Simply mute the video's audio, by reducing its level to zero - that is what actually happens when you extract the audio, after all.
It is my experience also, that locking audio clips to particular video clips is not fail-safe if further cropping is done afterwards, especially if that cropping is fairly substantial. Where possible, do the syncing after all crop-editing has been completed.
As a last check I always review the syncing before finalising the movie.
