Audio sound effects

I like imovie and its new additions since I got iLife. But, I must say I miss some of the older sound effects prior to the Skywalker effects like the good ol' wagon crash or dog barking. Can you get those back into the more modern version?
Thanks

  • FCP audio sound effects?

Does anyone know where I can get audio sound effects to use with fcp effects. Swoosh, bangs etc....
    Thanks

Soundtrack comes with loads of them. Also check out Garage Band's effects if you have it installed, here: Hard Drive/Library/Audio/Apple Loops/Apple/iLife Sound Effects.

  • IMovie '11 stopped playing some of my audio sound effects.

I completed a project in iMovie '11 yesterday and today opened it to fine tune the musical scoring. I'm using a 2011 MacBook Air 13 in. Yesterday all the background audio files I had placed, as well as the pinned audio (that iMovie calls "sound effects") worked fine. Today the first few will play and the rest are muted. Also, if I should add a sound effect or music file to the timeline, it appears normally, but remains mute. Nothing comes out of the speakers. The sound file will play fine in the Audio window. Selecting it and then hitting the play button (or double-clicking it) will cause it to play normally. But when I drag the file over to the timeline and drop it on a clip, it attaches normally and looks fine. But when I play the video, there is no sound. Now here's the strange thing. If I copy one of the audio files that DOES play and then paste it back into the timeline, it will not play. It's the same file, but at one point it plays and at another it does not. This problem does not occur with background audio files. If I take the same file that will not play as an attached "sound effect" and paste it into the background as a big green background audio file, it will play.
So, what's going on? I don't recall doing anything since yesterday (when everything worked fine) that might have caused this aberrant behavior. Have you ever encountered a problem like this? Any idea about what I can do to correct this? Thank you for your swift reply. I'm facing an urgent deadline.

The "yellow caution badge" that Peter refers to indicates that iMovie can't locate the clip, whether it be video or audio. The "badge" is in the shape of a yellow triangle enclosing an exclamation mark - see this picture:
One tip that may help is to delete iMovie's preference file. That file can become corrupted under certain circumstances, such as when iMovie quits unexpectedly or is Force Quit.
The file is located in your User (Home) folder Library/Preferences and, for iMovie '11, is named "com.apple.iMovieApp.plist".
Close iMovie, then drag the .plist file to the Trash. When opened, iMovie will create a fresh .plist file with the default settings, which you can change if desired in iMovie's menu item iMovie>Preferences.
Deleting the file will not harm your existing Events or Projects, but may fix iMovie's abnormal behaviour.
NOTE: I have seen similar behaviour myself, as you and Peter describe (but not as serious - it was on a test project). My fix was to check each and every audio track and switch Ducking OFF and ON (or ON and OFF depending on its setting). The disappearing audio suddenly re-appeared on the problem track. But it may have been coincidental, as I was playing around generally - perhaps something else I did triggered it.

  • I am using logic to record a podcast and using soundboard to use as a playback for music and sound effects.  I'd like to soft patch sound board into logic, and still use my interface for recording audio from the other members of the podcast.

I am using logic to record a podcast.  I have a presonus firestudio mobile for my interface so I can record several people at the same time.  I'm also using Soundboard for a playback system for music and sound effects.  I'd like to know how to soft patch Soundboard into Logic while still using the Firestudio interface to record the other members of the podcast.  Does anyone know how to do this? and if so can you tell me how to do it?  Thanks.

Thanks. Now, since Apple failed to provide an audio in jack for their new and improved iMacs (mine has one), all I can suggest is that you contact AppleCare, since you have 90-dqy free phone support. If need be, you might reconsider your purchase, but that's for you to decide.

  • (My post isn't showing up?) Sound effect muffles/is louder than the other audio layers

I want to point out that the last time I posted this, the discussion was completely blank. This is a repost and hopefully it won't be blank this time
In my most recent short movie, I decided that I would focus a lot more on sound than I normally do, so bought a microphone, a recorder and a boom pole etc. I also decided to implement more sound effects (Bear in mind that I'm 16, not a professional).
Here's the video -  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qGkrFVZ0e5I (I think embedding the video was causing problems with posting)
Note that at about 0:10 seconds in, you can hear an alarm ringing, but also a sort of 'thump' sound (It's actually the sound of a vault opening/closing). You couldn't hear it normally, so I turned the bass up on it to 17dB. When playing it back in the timeline, it sounds perfectly fine, but when I export the video, much like the attached one, it's muffled and you can't hear the alarm or anything else.
Unfortunately I didn't have time to try and fix it, also that scene takes a while to export so I couldn't quite do any trial and error.
Now however, I'm going to enter the video into a small competition, so I thought I'd try and fix it...because it does sound terrible/unprofessional.
Any suggestions? Remember, it sounds perfect (In my opinion) when playing it back in the timeline. I'm using Premiere Pro CS5.5 on an 11,2 (October 2010) iMac running Mac OSX Snow Leopard 10.6.8, it's also being exported to a G-Drive FireWire 800 hard drive, not a RAID, perhaps that could be a problem?

"One thing which is realistically within your reach at this time and could really help you on future projects is if you can come up with some sort of beginning, middle and end"
That's one of the problems, people kept saying "Oh, this line's too long..." and shortnening it, and like Jim said "If you can't fire people, you're at their mercy" so I can't exactly deduct pay or anything...because they're not being paid
They even started saying "Woah! We've completely changed the script! hahaha!". Just shows how little they actually cared. And the script really was changed, I would send you the script but I don't want to veer too far from the topic
"You may need to find some way to compensate them for their time though"
I was going to bring a box of Coca Cola, but I thought it would be a bit hard to carry around...and I was kind of glad I didn't because I don't feel they quite deserved it and they were already a bit hyper. Maybe it would have gone better if I did bring the Coke, but I'll definitely order some pizza next time.
    "Just software."
Great software that is! I don't know where I'd be without the student discount.
Anyway let's get back to the question.
    I glanced at this a bit - http://www.uaudio.com/blog/understanding-audio-phase/
And tried using the original MP3. It still didn't sound good.
I then tried exporting the sound on its own, with the bass, then imported it, but it still didn't sound as good.
I asked my friend (Who happens to also have the surname 'Curtis') and he said "just sounds to me like you have it so loud that it's clipping" and suggested that I "multitrack" it, basically layer several of them on top of each other, but that didn't work either.
He decided to add the bass in and fix the 'clipping'. It sounded good, but once imported, you could barely hear it, so I thought I'd try putting the bass up to 17dB like before...had the same problem. It seems to only sound nice/fitting with the 17dB bass...am I just going to have to turn it down and live with it?

I have FCE 4.0.1 and running OS x 10.7.5  when i burn my movie the audio from my movie clips don't come through .  My Sound effects and music can be heard.  First I export to Quicktime movie, make it self contained then open IDVD for an intro and burn it.  everything sounds great in preview but then ( once again)I lose my audio from my movie clips.

Try Mixing Down the audio before export.

  • HT201808 "...nor may they be repackaged in whole or in part as audio samples, sound effects or music beds." So does this mean I can't make a song with just remixed loops and publish it on SoundCloud for example?

If I've made a song with remixed loops, can I post it on SoundCloud to share with facebook friends and stuff? Regarding this statement from the software license agreement: "...however, individual audio loops may not be commercially or otherwise distributed on a standalone basis, nor may they be repackaged in whole or in part as audio samples, sound effects or music beds."

    momomikes,
Would you mind continue reading the document you quoted?
Read the last sentence, please. It goes:
”So don't worry, you can make commercial music with GarageBand, you just can't distribute the loops as loops.“

  • I have an audio problem when ever I use my Firefox web browser that makes a sharp audible sound simiular to a video game gun shot sound effect when ever I go into a new web page?

I have an audio problem that when ever I use my Firefox web browser it makes a sharp audible sound similar to a video game gun shot sound effect when ever I go into a new web page? I change to a new site or page a page on a site, I get an audible gunshot ping trpe sound? It happens almost every time. Its very annoying and is driving me nuts???
Any body out there had this happen also or know how to diagnose and fix this type of problem? I would hate to have to delete my whole Firefox program and have to start over again. If that is the case I will probably just scrap it and go on to try Google Chrome instead. I already have GC partially set up. I really have liked Firefox up to this point. I know add ons can cause problems at times but I haven't added anything new lately and this just started happening?

  • On my Apple TV I am receiving audio from sound effects only, eg clicking the remote. No audio is heard when I play movies theirfore can't be connection between tv and Apple TV?

No audio for videos or music, only audio is sound effects eg clicking remote noise works also when changing characters also audio works.

Check the sound settings... if set to Dolby Digital that could be the issue, especially if the content does not have dolby digital sound.

  • P755 and Realtek HD Audio Manager sound effects don't work

Hi. I have a P755 and the Realtek HD Audio Manager sound effects don't work. Everything seems to be up to date, but the equalizer and environment features have never worked. I am using the Analog stereo out. The Speaker Configuration is Stereo. The only thing that seems to change the audio characteristics is switching from Headphone to Line Out.
    Solved!

  • Cannot select audio output in Yosemite for sound effects

iMac mid 2011 with thunderbolt display connected. After installing Yosemite 10.10 the sound effects such as sending a new e-mail or text message now come out of the thunderbolt display exclusively, and refuse to come out of my iMac internal speakers. Sound for iTunes, quicktime, web content etc is coming out of the proper iMac speakers, just not the sound effects. I used option-click on the audio icon to select "internal speakers" which moves around my iTunes sound nicely back and forth from my internal speakers to the display audio, but no matter what I select the sound effects still only come out of the thunderbolt display.

Oh. Found it. System Preferences / Sound / Sound Effects tab at the top. I had only tried changing the "output" settings, thinking all output was controlled with that setting. I changed the Sound Effects to use the "Selected sound output device" and now it works.

  • Why is the sound effects library missing from the audio menu is FCPX 10.1

Up until version 10.1 Final Cut Pro had a sound effect library under the music tab.
Its now completely missing and only shows itunes.
Has anyone else noticed this problem and know how to put it back to the way it used to be.

    follow BenB's solution as follows:
Minor upgrade glitch, don't move any folders.
    Quit FCP X.
If you have GarageBand, launch it.
    Quit GarageBand.
    Reboot your Mac.
Open FCP X, you should be fine.
Repeat once or twice if needed.

  • My macbook air doesnt play voice audio tracks in movies. I can hear sound effects and music. In VLC and Itunes.

I opened up multiple video players and multiple movie files. MP4 and MKV. They work fine on my macbook pro but on my air I can only hear the music and sound effects, the voice track doesnt sound. The movie files are one file only no dts or surround option. Im pretty stumped.

    Hi, Julian,
I can't even find the instructions for it in the GB Help File
That's because it's an undocumented feature.
Here's a link that describes it:

You can always import GB files directly into LE.

  • Lenovo 3000 N200 (0769) - Audio/Sound problem

    Hi,
My system: Win XP SP2, all drivers are updated with Lenovo Care - System Update, in Control Panel->Device Manager all items are OK regarding sound system, NO yellow marks (Audio Codecs - OK, Media Control Devices - OK, Realtek HD Audio - OK, UAA Bus Driver for HD Audio - OK), DirectX 9.0, and moreover sound test from Control Panel-> Realtek HD Sound Effect Manager works.
BUT the sound doesnt work at all.
I found also some odd stuffs: in Control Panel -> Sounds and Audio Devices -> Audio -> Sound playback/Sound recording -> Default Service box I have only "Bluetooth Hands-free Audio", and nothing about Realtek HD. The same with the volume icon in the taskbar: when I open it, in Options->Properties->Mixer Device there is only "Bluetooth Hands-free Audio", and again nothing about Realtek HD.
Another strange thing: Control Panel->System->Device Manager->Sound, Video and Game controllers->right-click Legacy Audio Drivers->Property and there is a blank Multimedia Devices window. Is that correct ?
    Thank You for any help.
