Audio Spectrum Path

I want to make the audio spectrum effect follow a path, I used auto trace to make a mask. Know I dont know what to do.
How do I make a mask into a path, and then make the audio spectrum effect see it?
Thanks,
Connor

Copy&paste the mask to the layer with the effect and assign it in the effects controls.

  • LE8 won't remember audio recording path (among other issues...)

    Why won't LE8 remember the audio recording path I set for each project? Each time I open a project I've been working on (by dropping the project onto the LE8 icon in the dock-LAME) and arm a track to record, it says that that the path to the external HD is not found (-but it knows the name of the external HD somehow). I'll then open the record prefs, set the recording path correctly to my external HD and the coressponding folder, save the project, and record without incident (or at least the same incident) for the rest of my session. The next time I open the project the same thing happens.
    LE7 never had this issue.... weird and annoying.

    For generic performance and trouble-shooting advice I’d like to recommend reading these:

    http://blogs.adobe.com/crawlspace/2012/07/photoshop-basic-troubleshooting-steps-to-fix-mos t-issues.html
    As for the specifics:
    The image size is 4.31M. If I go to double the size and change nothing else, the image size jumps up to a whopping 17.2M.
    If you double the dimensions of an image the area is increased fourfold – so what is the problem there?
    The image dimensions are 500px x 135px, 300DPI, 8bit, RGB color. This is at 100% zoom. Those are the settings I normally use, but for some reason it’s showing the file as about half of the size it should be. (Tumblr post for comparison—they are 500px wide.)
    The introduction or Retina (and other high resolution) displays and browsers actually up-scaling images to accommodate those screen resolutions seems to have confused some users about the concept of pixels.
    Could you please post a full size screenshot on this Forum of the image at View > 100% in Photoshop and on tumblr?

  • Is it possible to trim a video layer according to sound levels found in its audio spectrum?

    Hi There,
    I'm interested to know if there is any way via a script or an existing plugin that would allow me to trim down a video layer based on the sound levels in it audio track?  For example, if I wanted to set the in point for a source footage element to where sound started.  Is that possible with scripting?  If not, is there a plugin that analyzes the audio spectrum so that a script could possibly determine that point?
    Thanks for your time and help!

    This example uses the "Convert Audio to Keyframes" menu command to find the first frame where the selected layer's audio level is above the value specified in variable "threshold" (0.1 in this example). It then sets the selected layer's in point to that frame.
        var threshold = .1;
        function main(){
            var myComp = app.project.activeItem;
            if (myComp == null || ! (myComp instanceof CompItem)){
                alert("No comp active.");
                return;
            if (myComp.selectedLayers.length == 0){
                alert("No layer selected.");
                return;
            if (myComp.selectedLayers.length > 1){
                alert("More that one layer selected.");
                return;
            var myLayer = myComp.selectedLayers[0];
            if (! myLayer.hasAudio){
                alert("Selected layer doesn't have audio.");
                return;
            app.executeCommand(app.findMenuCommandId("Convert Audio to Keyframes"));
            var myAudioLayer = myComp.layer(1);
            var myProp = myAudioLayer.effect("Both Channels")("Slider")
            audioFound = false;
            for (var i = 1; i <= myProp.numKeys; i++){
                if (myProp.keyValue(i) > threshold){
                    audioFound = true;
                    myLayer.inPoint = myProp.keyTime(i);
                    break;
            myAudioLayer.remove();
            if (! audioFound){
                alert("No audio above threshold found.");
                return;
        main();

  • After Effects: Taking 9 hours to render and finalize a 4 minute song with audio spectrum?

    Hello, I am using Adobe After Effects to create some Youtube videos for my music. I have a 4 minute song I've created, and have added 6 layers of audio spectrum, as well as glows, and a few other minor effects. I'm newer to the program, but I still do not understand how the estimated time to render 6,125 frames is 9 HOURS?
    My computer: Dell Optiplex 760
    Intel(R) Core 2 Duo CPU - E7200 @ 2.53GHz
    Ram: 8 GB
    System: 64-bit
    Hard Drive: 250GB
    The Rendering process is set on multi-process rendering. It is using 71% of 8GB ram constantly.
    I am rendering my 4 minute song, along with the 6 layers of audio spectrum, glows, and other effects, along with 2 small text layers.
    This is going into MPEG4 format, with "Best Settings".
    I have tried .FLV, .MPEG4, .H261, and .MOV and they all have the same estimated time for 6,125 frames.
    Could anyone provide me any advice? I need to render and finalize this composition, then upload it to youtube. So it would be great to have decent quality, as well as GOOD sound quality.
    Thank you!

    Don't use compressed audio -- change ac3's, aac's or mp3's to wav or aiff.
    Turn off the multiprocessing--it probably isn't helping one bit, and you may have it set up wrong, too.
    Render to a quicktime movie in Animation, Photo JPEG  or PNG codecs.  Compress later
    Just before bedtime, hit the Render button, have a nice night's sleep, and see how things are doing in the morning.
    Compress to mp4 using Adobe Media Encoder.
    And FYI:  things that you call "minor effects" may in reality be quite processor-intensive, meaning AE has to work harder, meaning it'll take a good deal of rendering time.
    AE isn't a video editor.  It's an effects, motion graphics  and compositing application.  It doesn't work like a video editor.  You can't expect it to react or perform like a video editor.

  • Set audio record path

    setting audio record path?

    Let me guess - your tempo's set to 120 and 4/4 time, right?
    The limit is on the number of quarter notes Logic can handle (8550).
    Set your song length to max (2158), reduce your tempo, and/or adjust your time signature. Example, temp 60, 4/8 time will give you 2hrs 22minutes of recording.
    good luck

  • Real-Time Audio Spectrum in FCPro?

    Is it possible to do a real-time audio spectrum analysis (i.e., some sort of audio frequency histogram) in Final Cut Pro 4.5? I have some interview audio that has some high-frequency noise, and I'd like to easily be able to tell where in the spectrum it's happening.
    Thanks.

    True, but the process of exporting the appropriate audio clip to another app, finding the offending portion, then coming back into FCPro to filter it out seems like a lot of work considering that FCPro does have a lot of other audio functionality--and a video spectrometer--built-in. It would be really great if FCPro did this!

  • "Audio Record Path Not Found" error and new details

    I've been having problems opening up older GarageBand files I've created and trying to add new content. When I try to record on an existing track, or in a new track, I get the error: "Audio Record Path not Found! Please enter it in the following dialog." (and there's no following dialog). I've tried to save the file as an archive, which has worked in the past, but doesn't work any longer. I'm using a MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo 15"
    As a test, I installed iLife 06 on my older (PowerPC-based) Mac Mini. On that computer, I'm able to open the files, and record onto an existing track. None of my recording equipment is attached to this machine, however. If I save an archive and move it to my macBook Pro, I'm still not able to add recordings to it.
    I tried reintalling GarageBand on my MBP, but I still get the same error. I've also deleted the preference files from Library > Preferences. (the two com.apple.garageband... files), and still no luck. It doesn't sound like the audio files themsleves are corrupted since I can open them on the Mini, so it's likely GarageBand. What else can I delete to make it a pristine installation?
    I don't want to use my Mac Mini for recording, as it's too slow for my editing needs, but if I can't open the files on my MacBook Pro, I'll have to re-record them.
    Anyone have any ideas I can try?

    Excellent suggestion! I actually left the files on the external USB drive on which I store them, and accessed them from my MacBook Pro (instead of moving the files to the MacBook Pro), and sure enough, I'm able to edit and add to the files!
    I still don't know why I can't access them locally on the MBP, but this workaround is certainly acceptible for my needs!
    Thanks out to everyone who helped on this thread!

  • Placing an Audio Spectrum Effect on top of a video.

    I'm wondering if it's possible to use the audio spectrum effect on top of a video layer. That is, the video is playing while there is an audio visualizer *on top* of it. My goal is to produce a video podcast, but add some style to it by having each podcast member have their voice synced to an audio visualizer while there are video clips playing in the background.
    Is this possible with After Effects, or any of Adobe's products at all? Every time I place an audio spectrum effect on, I can hear the audio of my video clips, but the visualizer refuses to show on top of anything other than the black background that appears the moment I activate the effect.
    Can anyone help? Thanks.

    Place the audio in the comp and then add a solid layer. (comp size)
    Next, go to Effects, Generate, "Audio Spectrum" or "Audio Waveform" depending on what you'd like.
    You can apply the waveform directly to the video layer, but placing it on a separate layer allows separate adjustment of both layers independently.
    There are quite a few parameters that can be adjusted, however the defaults should be fine for most things.
    Here's a nice tutorial on the effect:

  • Help With a Custom Audio Spectrum I am Making

    So here is the plan, I want to make something like this:
    but in order to do that I need to use sound keys (which I have) and I don't know how to use it very well so please keep it simple when replying.
    So with sound keys, I can make rectangles move to the beat of music like in here (no they do not use the audio spectrum in this vid and duplicate it, so hear me out) they make solid layers of rectangles and make them move up and down to the beat of the music using ranges, I know what the ranges I need to use are in sound keys, but I do not know how to make the scaling work correctly. When I hook up the rectangles scale with the music, it moves both sides, people have said you need to move the pixels rather than the scale, so how do I do that, also when I hook it up it ends up being extremely small (the rectangles) so I need help solving these two problems, so please help me, remember I am a noob and have no idea how to use equations and stuff. Thanks!

    You need to move the anchor point for your rectangles to one side or the other so that, when they scale, they will only appear to move in one direction.
    If you're a "noob", you should really start here: Getting started with After Effects. The resources in that link will get you started in a way that will make you able to come up with this stuff on your own.

  • Audio spectrum trouble

    hello, I recently downloaded the trial for adobe after effects and am enjoying it very much. I am having trouble with the audio spectrum effect though, when I drag audio spectrum onto my project, all I see is the background color of that layer. I have adjusted the settings in many different ways and uninstalled and then reinstalled the trial twice now due to this problem. I need to get some answers about this, i've been having the problem for days and have tried many different solutions,
    -Will

    mp3 will work sometimes, it's better to convert them to a .wav file. 48Khz 16 bit linear PCM is the standard production format for video.
    In the ECP, the Effects Control Panel (press F3 if you don't see it) you'll see a place to pick the audio source layer. You must apply the effect to a solid layer or footage. If you have applied Audio Spectrum to an audio layer then there will be no place to render the effect because audio does not contain any pixels for the effect to modify.
    If you have not already done so please go through at least these training materials: Basic Workflow, It will take you about a half hour.

  • What makes the audio spectrum look the way it does?

    The audio spectrum generated preset in CS6 looks different from most audio spectrums. What exactly is it doing to the actual spectrum to make it look the way it does? And is it possible to get something similar to that to render in realtime for use as a visualizer with a media player, say Winamp or iTunes.

    There are lots of options to fiddle with the effects control panel. Do some experimenting. Thursday tutorial that comes up first in the Google search for audio visualizer after effects: Audio Visualization in After Effects « Layers Magazine

  • Radial Audio Spectrum

    Hai there everyone!
    Just a little question, pretty new to after effects.
    You see, I have a circle with a transparent gardient in it. Picture related.
    But I want to have a Radial outer glow to react to an audio track
    Thanks in advance friends!

    The way I do it is to make a solid and place Audio Spectrum effect on it.  Be sure the beginning is all the way to the left and the end is all the way to the right, this isn't set by default! and set Side Option to Side B.  Make the Audio layer set as the song.
    Then make a seperate composition, drag the one with the Audio Bars in it and place the effect Polar Coordinates.  You would want to change the Type of Conversion to Rect to Polar, then max the Interpolation to 100%.
    Should look like this afterwards:
    You may need to rescale and reposition afterwards!

  • Audio Spectrum Curving

    I want to visualize a song on a easter egg edges, which are curved. So, my question is how do i curve Audio spectrum without distorting it like with Polar Coordinates?

    Sorry, but that didn't help me. I have CS4 btw. I put my Spectrum in Precomp and put Mesh Warp on it and i just saw grid over Spectrum. Do you know video so It can be explained better?

  • Audio Spectrum, Solid Wave?

    I was wandering if there was a way to make my Audio Spectrum a solid wave with out having to increase my frequency bands to around 4,000.

    Simply apply the effects after the spectrum and use the Choke/ Expand controls to incerease your Alpha.

  • Audio Spectrum Masking

    Hi, I wanted to mask the top of the audio spectrum so that the spectrum can only reach a certain height. I know I could put the maximum height down but I cant do that with this project because I need the bass to be pretty damn high. I also have tried masking the top and setting the mask to subtract and inverting and not inverting but to no avail.. So my question is, how do I mask the spectrum so I only goes to a certain height? Thanks, ReBurst_Blazer
