Audio Stereo track gone

Working FCP3, Suddenly not able to put complete clip into timeline, only video and one track of audio. Second audio track has disappeared. Everything worked fine earlier, I did some audio filter work on a few clips but don't think that caused the problem. Also have an older audio clips where one track is ahead of the other by a few seconds and nothing I can do seems to bring them back together??

If you are talking about placing a clip that you know has both tracks into a timeline and only one track is coming is try this:
Make sure the track source dohickies for both audio tracks are connected to a destination track. They are the little square things on the left side of the track that look either connected or disconnected (look just to the right of the green audio mute buttons). Both need to be connected for both audio tracks to come in.
To deal with your mismatched audio try this:
The audio tracks need to be disconnected from the video and to be NOT a stereo pair. Try Shift + L to unlink the video from the audio, then Option + L to turn the stereo pair to dual mono.
Once the audio tracks are dual mono, you should be able to slip them back into sync.
Apply the toggles in reverse order to return the dual mono to a stereo pair and to relink the audio to the video.

Stereo problem using m audio fast track

I have an m audio fast track that I use in garage band all the time. I'm having trouble right now because by default it sets each input to left the left or right in the mix. In garage band I can set this to mono and then I have control over panning and such. In imovie I can't figure out how to make it so my mic isn't just in my left ear. Has anyone else tried using this? Any help would be great.

Did you ever get this to work? I just today bought a Fast Track Pro. I have it hooked to my MBP via USB. I can see in control Panel two inputs:
M-Audio Fast Track Pro UDB: Line Input
M-Audio Fast Track Pro UDB: S/PDIF
Problem is, there is no sound registering on the Input Level on either choose.
I have the Power On and have tried both Input 1 & 2, bith in stereo and mono mode.
(Just to be clear, I connect the electric guitar directly to the Fast track pro, correct?)
I have read the owners manual but it is worthless. I thought this would be easy to set up.
Also note that GarageBand preferences the Audio Output and Input are selected to Fast Track Pro.
What am I doing wrong?

Wierd Audio Behavior suddenly, stereo tracks now take up 2 mono tracks?????

So I start a new file, or open an existing file and all my tracks that have setero information all of a sudden take up 2 channels on the mixer, so if the audio is on track 1, meters for track 1 and 2 move. If I make track 1 a stereo track, track 2 disappears and says "Controlled by Stereo object "track 1-2""....now all my routing is messed up as this effects busses and everything...what gives? Is there something in my preferences that got changed? HELP!!!!!!!!

What the heck, tbird? Are you able to bend the parameters of time now, too? There was no post here when I replied with mine. Please, do share your secrets!

In which steps of Logic E. can I make a stereo audio recording track with a right and left microphone?

I want to make a stereo recording with a microphone for left and one for right. Can someone tell me the Logic steps to record 2 tracks (mono left and
mono right?) at once, to make a stereo track from both tracks? I use Logic Express 7.

I think it is easy if you have an audio interface that has two mic imputs. You direct each of them to two different mono audio tracks. Then, at the time if playing it, you just pan one channel to the left and the other to the right.

Imovie and audio - dealing with separate stereo tracks in imovie

The footage I am working with has stereo recording - a boom mike (L) and a lapel mike (R) were used simultaneously. However, I want to use only the left track that has the boom mike because the guy with the lapel mike is talking too much and drowning out the conversations on the boom mike.
I see that there are separate tracks playing in imovie but I see no way to use only the left or right track in the audio. What do I need to do? if iMovie cannot handle it, can I export the audio as a stereo track and edit it in Garageband, then re-import it?

Yes - iMovie HD or other - Can't handle this.
Export out - as QuickTime expert mode and Audio only and as .aiff
Put it into an Audio editor - like GarageBand or Audacity (free on internet)
Edit it and save as .aiff
Re-import into iMovie and put on bottom track - silencing out top-track.
Done this many times -Works.

M Audio Fast Track not recording in stereo

I purchased an M Audio Fast Track to use with Garageband. I'm running OS 10.7.2 Lion. The M Audio website says its compatible with Lion. Both my vocals and guitar, bass only record in mono even though I've got the audio input set to stereo. I set the input in GB Preferences for the M Audio DAW. The Garageband software instruments record in stereo but they're not going through the DAW. Am I doing something wrong? BTW, I'm a beginner so...and help will be appreciated.

No audio generated from MIDI tracks, though Stereo track is armed

I know that I need to make a stereo track before exporting my MIDI patches as an audio file. However, when I tried to record the audio track (and yes, it's armed), there are no sound waves generated from the instrument patches.
I'm connecting an external MIDI synth (USB to host device) and am also using 1/4 in. audio output cables on the synth, with the 1/8 in. jack connected to my MacBook Pro's microphone plug.
Here's more info:
Software: Logic X Pro
Synth: Yamaha MO8
The Yamaha MO8 is recognized on the Audio MIDI Setup.

I'm also hearing the click track echoing on every beat. And that's all the stereo audio track will record. How do I stop it, so that the stereo audio track will record my MIDI tracks?

I'm sure I used to get all 4 tracks from my XL1s, If I rememder correctly there was one Avi with a stereo track and a separate wav with the other pair. When in 4 track mode the audio is only 12 bit. The computer I used back then had a Matrox RT100 board, It might have been a Matrox utility that I used for the capture.

I am writing a class that is able to draw an audio signal. It seems to be working well but I have a question. If I load a mono audio file I am able to draw it on a graph by using the byte[] array and everything is ok until now. That's the code:

The results is correct only if I have a mono track. Obviously when I get a stereo track the array becomes very large so here the question. How can I extract the two audio channels from a stereo track?

A mono audio stream is stored [sample, sample, sample, sample], so just a list of samples in an array.
A stereo sample is interleaved in the same manner, so you get [left-sample, right-sample, left-sample, right-sample]
So every nth sample is the 1st channel, every nth+1 is the 2nd channel...

In Final Cut Pro X 10.1.1 I'm trying to separate left and right stereo tracks to delete left and pan right to centre. I cannot find a way to do this.

I record in stereo with a 10KHz tone down the left channel to defeat AGC on my camera and mic feed into the right channel. When I edit, I want to mute/delete the left channel and pan the right into the centre, to leave me with mono audio across both left and right. I could do this easily in FCP 6 but can find no way to do it in FCP X. I'm using the same source files. When I choose Dual Mono mode in the Audio Inspector, it mixes left and right and pushes the combined signal into both channels, giving me a mix of 10KHZ tone and audio in both left and right. Stereo mode shows me the two channels correctly with one driven hard (the tone) and the other at good voice levels. I just want to kill the left channel and pan the right to centre.
I'm converting original TOD files using MPEG Streamclip before import and definitely keeping audio as stereo.
This is driving me nuts! It should be simple and is in FCP 6. Any help greatly appreciated.

Mb - If you're using FCPX 10.1.1 and Mavericks, make certain you've downloaded the most current Sony XDCAM FCPX plugin from sonycreativesortware.com unless you're using an older version of FCPX and then you'd need the previous XDCAM plugin.
You shouldn't see 8 mono tracks. There are import settings in /fCPX that you can check and I don't ask FCPX to analyze my media or seperate mono or combine stereo, etc. I like to have everything come in as it is, especially because I know what I've done with every channel, etc.
What I wrote to Ian is what I'd tell you - so please take a look at how you can make a "stereo" track that is actually two mono tracks, mono. Once you do that you can address each mono channel by itself since it needs different volume, compression, and EQ than other channels.
There are ethernet, USB, and firewire controllers that work in FCPX, but that's not the typical workflow because generally if you're getting into any amount of post audio sweetening beyond basic "staples" audio treatment, you would instead use "Roles" to export your audio to Logic or Pro Tools and do you work in those applications and then cut the final product back into your FCPX project. In Logic or Pro Tools is where you might use a controller.
In terms of automating levels, I'm not positive I know what you mean. Compressor is a nice internal Logic plugin that kind of automates levels in a way but its about compressing peaks at a threshold that you set and at a ratio of compression. So I may not understand what other automation is available unless you've exported you tracks to Logic or Pro Tools.

Export mixdown of several stereo tracks as one mono track

How can I select a few stereo tracks in STP and export them as a single mono track? either back to FCP or as a standalone file?

On the Channels Strip (of the Audio Track with the Audio Region), ctr+click on the left segment of the Input Button. That opens a popup menu where you can select Left (only the left channel of the Audio Region is played as mono), or Right (only the right channel of the Audio Region is played as mono).
Once the signal flow of the Channel Strip is mono (one channel), you can use the "Mono➤Stereo" version of some plugins to convert the Channel Strip to a stereo channel.
About your second question. If you are referring to the little blue "Catch Playhead Button", that automatically scrolls the Workspace when the Playhead reaches the right border to keep the Workspace visible. You also can also enable the "Scroll in Play" mode in the local View Menu. That one locks the Playhead in the center and scroll the Workspace "underneath"
However if you are referring to that little Play icon in the left upper corner of the Region Header (only visible in the Editor), that one, the "Solo Play Button", only plays that Region in solo mode. It is basically a combination of "Play " and "Solo" in on button. You can find all those little informations and much more in my graphically enhanced manual "Logic Pro X - How it Works".

Changing 2 Mono Tracks back to 1 Stereo Track on timeline, or source monitor?

I was working in Premiere Pro CS 5.5 and I switched Audio on a clip to 2 Mono Tracks instead of its original 1 stereo track. I brought it in the Source Monitor and then on the timeline.
I then realized later on that I wanted to switch the audio back to 1 Stereo Track instead of the 2 Mono tracks.
I could not figure out a way to do this.
Is it possile to do this? If so. how?

Joe has given you a good answer, but exactly why do you want to switch the two mono Tracks back to Stereo?
If one is not doing certain things, then they will be Mixed-down to stereo on Export. However, certain editin operations WILL be easier with both back in stereo, if you are doing those.

Recorded audio files are gone after power outage during a concert

Hello together,
yesterday I used Logic Pro X to record a concert at our school. I had connected my MacBook Air to our mixer via FireWire, and everything went fine until two minutes before the concert's ending, the power went out. My MacBook was still working from battery, however, Logic Pro stopped recording and all recorded files except for one audio file are gone. I have already tried to recover the lost data by using a data recovery app, but it didn't find anything.
Is there a way to recover the lost recordings? I mean, Logic must have written its audio files to the hard drive somewhere and even when everything crashed, I don't think the files got overwritten with zeros or something else that could have destroyed it...

Trying to connect 2 stereo tracks

I have 2 stereo tracks which aren't connected. I selected modify stereo pair hoping they would connect but that didn't help. I would love some help. Thanks!

Select the two audio clips.
Go to the menu Modify > Link and Toggle it OFF (the check mark next to it will go away) then on the same menu, with the clips still selected, Toggle Stereo Pair and OFF (the check mark next to it will go away).
Now go to the timeline and click and drag one of the two audio clips to the track adjacent to the other. Make sure the start and ending points are the same (this is easier with Snapping turned on).
Once you have the two tracks adjacent and in sync, select them both and toggle Stereo Pair ON.
Then select the stereo pair audio track you just created and the video it goes with and toggle Link ON.
To prevent this in the future, make sure your audio routing is set for adjacent tracks.

Audio Stereo to Mono

After reading the help manual, I don't see any info on changing a stereo audio clip to mono once it is already in the timeline. I am probably missing something, I hope. Any help? Thanks

Think about what you're asking for. Mono clips go in mono tracks. Stereo clips go in stereo tracks. There is no way to click a button to change one into the other.
I would suggest you copy the stereo audio from track 1 and put it on the next empty stereo track then apply the "fill left" effect to track 1 and the "fill right" effect to the other track. Done.
