Audio stuttering dropouts-capture problem

Problem: Intermittent audio dropouts when playing back a capture
from within FCP. It can be fine for many minutes, and then sections
where the audio sounds like quick and repeated missing information—
like a CD that is skipping. The video always looks fine, even in
these problematic sections
My equipment: Powerbook G4 17”, 2megsRam, FCP 5.04. OSX 10.4.7,
Cannon XL2 camera.
In order to solve, we just bought from Tekserve: G-Raid 500megb,
hooked up to the internal firewire 800 port, and a new Iogear
Firewire Cardbus adapter—so the camera can be hooked up to this
separate Firewire bus.
Software settings: the video tape (miniDV) was shot in 30p mode. I
have duplicated the FCP stock DV NTSC preset settings, and duplicated
them so that the scanning is set to Progressive, instead of
Interlaced. This is the only change. The camera was set to just
record channels 1&2 (as is the FCP capture presets), so it is not an
issue of the channel 3&4 audio.
The audio plays back fine from the camera itself. It is just the FCP
capture that has the problem. No other devices were hooked up to the
laptop at the time of capture, except for a wireless Microsoft
Mouse. The problem does exist even after we transferred a copy of
the media files to another computer—so it is the file itself.
Any thoughts?

Thanks for your suggestion, but I’m afraid it didn’t help. A render-only Mixdown of audio still had the problem. In fact, you hear the problem consistently at he same place on the master captured file, playing in the viewer. It seems to only happen on long master clips. (I typically capture in 15 minute blocks, then subclip from here). To solve the problem, I have been creating another subclip of the problem area, making it offline, then recapturing just this small clip where the problem lies. I’m missing my work deadlines because of this.
Any other ideas? Could it be my camera—which is still fairly new—needs a professional cleaning? Could it just be a problem with Canon and Firewire? Would a Powerbook Pro help?

  • RE: Capture Problems on External Drive/Audio drift over time

    Greetings FCP gurus -
I posted earlier on the LAFCPUG board and now seek worldwide assistance with a problem I can't seem to resolve.
Been working in FCP since 1.5. Been successfully capturing on external FW devices for over 4 years with an old 500 MHz Powerbook - no problems.
I recently upgraded to FCP 5 Studio on a PowerBook 1.5 GHZ 512 RAM FW 4/8 machine. Prior to upgrade, I was running Panther (OS X 10.3X) and FCP 4.5 HD. This configuration allowed me to flawlessly capture to external FW drives from Panasonic AJ-D250 DVCPRO deck using a standard DVNTSC codec. Prior to that I was also able to do the same from a Sony DSR-11 deck. No longer.
I now get a constant audio "drift" every time I capture. I've tried shortening the clips to under 10 minutes - even as small as 5 minutes - but the audio progressively drifts as the clip plays on. This is true in both FCP and QT. I completely reformatted the laptop/wiped the drive prior to install (Unjournaled) and it currently has 25 gig available disk space on the 80 gig internal drive. Additionally, I'm using LaCie 7200 RPM Oxford 911 chip-set external drives. I've tried with clean D2 FW 800 and Porsche FW 400 drives to no avail - even reformatted one and still no luck.
    Current configurations attempted:
FW 800 PB port to FW 800 drive port/DVCPRO deck to FW 400 PB port
FW 800 PB port to FW 800 drive port/DVCPRO deck to FW 400 drive port
FW 400 PB port to FW 400 drive port/DVCPRO deck to FW 400 drive port
    ..and so on.
I'm at wit's end and appreciate any insight. Is anyone else having issues capturing to External FW media via FCP 5 Studio/OSX 10.4.x? I don't currently have the option of internal drives to capture as I'm working at a client site. Additionally, I sold my FCP 4.X upgrade software so going backwards is not an option either... Even took the deck home and tried this same trick on my home machine (Dual 500 G4 Sawtooth) to the internal ATA drive with the same result -...drifting audio. Since upgrade this is my first capture and needless to say it's not going well.
Help, information and insight are greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hi Expressofiend! Were you able to resolve this issue yet? We are having an IDENTICAL problem. We shoot on a Canon XL2, and thought that might be causing the audio drifting issue? We also have a Panasonic AD-J 250 deck, and when we capture, say an interview, the lip sync is perfect for a few minutes, then drifts as much as a second or two over 20 minutes of capture. It's making us crazy. Happens when we capture to an external LaCie or our internal drive. We're using Apple's 2.7 gig duel processor computer. 2 Gig of ram, all the latest versions of Tiger, Final Cut Pro 5, etc. If we look at the Quicktime movie - it shows the audio drift - you don't even need to view it through Final Cut!
Interestingly, if we use the Canon XL2 camera as the source player when we capture the 20 minute piece - there is NO audio drift or syncing problem. Only with the AJD 250! We've spoken with the senior engineer at Panasonic - he doesn't think it's the DVCPro unit. Says drifting audio isn't the kind of thing an out of adjustment or broken deck would do.
    Anyway, any answers here yet?
    Thanks,
    Larry

  • Audio Capture problem in Mac OS X 10.7.5 in Mac mini(in Silverlight)

    I got a mac mini and upgrade Mac OS X 10.6.x --> 10.7.5.
However do not hearing the audio in Webpage using Silverlight.(10.6. version doing well)
So, I found the solve this problem, that is a audio capture problem.( My device does not supported Stereo audio data).
this is the source in audio capture using Silverlight code.
      CaptureSource source = new CaptureSource()
                            AudioCaptureDevice = CaptureDeviceConfiguration.GetDefaultAudioCaptureDevice()
                        try
                            foreach (AudioFormat af in source.AudioCaptureDevice.SupportedFormats)
                                if (af.Channels == 1 && af.BitsPerSample == 16 && af.SamplesPerSecond == 8000)
                                    source.AudioCaptureDevice.DesiredFormat = af;
                                    break;
    af.Channels is always af.Channel == 2(Stereo)
    --- the question is
How can I caputure audio channel mono?
If couldn`t, how can I transfered audio capture data stereo to mono?
Please answer the question as soon as possible ^^

  • Audio stuttering problems with certain exported MP4 files

I'm currently running Captivate 6.1.0.319 on my old and decrepit Pentium 4 machine that has 4GB of RAM and is running Windows 7 SP1. I'm developing an online training course on RoboHelp 10 for Udemy, and they require all lecture files to be in MP4 format. Unfortunately, some of the MP4 files I generate from Captivate have audio stuttering starting a few seconds into the generated video and nothing I try fixes the problem.
All the videos are being recorded with video dimensions of 1360 x 978 pixels. I import the .cptc file I recorded into the .cptx file, and then I import an MP4 audio file into the .cptx file. When I finish editing the .cptx file, I publish it to an MP4 file using the highest video settings and the highest variable bitrate audio settings.
I have tried the following to try to fix the problem:
    Turned off SWF compression.
Created a new .cptx file and copied the slide from the problem .cptx file into the new one, and published that new .cptx file.
Disabled all software operating in the foreground and the background.
Tried generating the MP4 file on my laptop; the laptop runs the same version of Captivate on Windows 8.
As I said, Captivate generates some MP4 files perfectly without any stuttering, and others have the stuttering problem. If this problem sounds familiar, it's because I wrote a couple of messages about this a few months ago and despite some good suggestions, I wasn't able to solve the problem. I've spent my time during the past few months trying to find another program that will convert SWF files to one of the formats Udemy supports -- MP4, MOV, or FLV -- without success. Captivate exports to SWF and HTML5 format files without any trouble at all. But MP4 generation is spotty and I need to get this resolved so I can get this project off my plate and start making money off it.
If you have any further questions, please let me know. I look forward to hearing your suggestions.
    Thanks,
    Eric Butow

    Hi,
I am having the same issue and cannot figure out what is causing it, as it occurs randomly - but fairly frequently  - when I publish to mp4. And it is not tied to the project - seems to be something happening during the publishing. The issue might occur one time when pubishing a project and if republished again it may or may not occur again. I would be very interested in finding exactly what is causing this and any step that are tested and proven for getting away from the problem.

  • Premiere Pro CS3 Capture Problem with Audio

    Setup:
    Premiere Pro 3.2.0
Video Capture Device: Blackmagic Design Intensity Pro capture card
Audio Capture Device: HT Omega Claro Plus XP
    OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit
I am able to capture video with Premiere with no issues.  However, the audio does not get captured even though it is set to capture both audio and video.  I am configured for ASIO capture and playback.  Strange thing is that I can load Adobe Soundbooth and it will capture the audio just fine (from the same input stream as I'm trying to do with Premiere).  What gives?  I'm almost out of options.
From what I can see, when I hit F5 and go into capture mode, Premiere seems to insist that it must capture audio from the blackmagic design audio ports, and even though I have the audio explicitly setup for the Claro in audio hardware, if I go into the capture settings, it still is set on "Blackmagic Capture" as the capture format, and when I go to settings, I can pick the audio channels to capture, however.... I don't want to capture with the blackmagic for audio.   The capture format MUST be "Blackmagic Capture" or else I can't capture the video.  It still doesn't make sense though, since I have the audio hardware set for input from the claro ASIO.  It shouldn't force Blackmagic audio.
    Any ideas?  Please help

    Some additional information:
Sound card is a Claro Plus XT not XP.  Used to typing XP heh
Also, the video capture works with the included blackmagic capture software, as well as freeware solutions like VirtualDub and a Japanese freeware program I use.  I'm able to capture video and audio without issue on those.  Just don't know why Premiere doesn't do it...

  • Audio stutters / 15 degrees C hotter idle / printer problems

Im updated to 10.8.1 and am continuing to have audio stuttering.  This was lessened in 8.1, but is still present on both my 2010 and 2011 top of the line iMacs.  Wasn't sure if anyone has found any work arounds for this.  Audio is out by the 3.5 mm jack to external speakers, but also does it out of the built in speakers.
I've also noticed the iMac runs about 15 degrees hotter than under Lion. As a result, both iMac displays have now gotten a few stuck green subpixels on their displays.  Not sure if it's related, but ML does seem to be running hotter and usage habits and room temperature haven't changed.
Lastly, I've noticed that my HP photosmart printer also has scanne issues under ML. Granted this is HP not updating their drivers, but it also appears that apple has changed a lot more than indicated under the good going from Lion.
Really getting tired of this shoddy software.

Perre wrote:I'm used to being able to pick one or a couple of songs and then adding it a specified playlist. Is this impossible in sonata?
It's clearly not impossible, just different than you expect. Create your playlist as you want it to appear in the Current tab (meaning don't dump every single song from your library in there, just the ones you want) and then save the playlist.
Perre wrote:And if I try to play the m3u file created (the one with every song listed) through freevo I get a message that the directory is empty. What am I doing wrong??
Look at save_absolute_paths_in_playlists in your mpd.conf.

  • Audio Stuttering When Importing Video

    Hey guys, quick question.
I am currently working on a project that was given to me in the form of one Mini-DV tape. I'm trying to capture the footage into Premiere CS3, however, both as I'm capturing and while I'm watching the captured footage, there is a ton of audio stuttering, rendering the clips worthless.
I'm capturing using a Canon Ultura A mini-dv cam. When I listen to the audio coming from the camera's speakers, it's perfect. Only on the computer do I have issues with it.
My computer's speed should not be a problem either, I'm running premiere on this:
    Intel Core2Duo E6600 @ 2.4
    2 GB DDR2-800 ram
MSI P6N Platinum Motherboard (This is where the firewire port is located)
    Nvidia 8800 GTX Graphics card
    Creative X-fi Soundcard.
    Any ideas on potential fixes?

Interesting, I will have to try and find another firewire cable to see if that fixes the problem.
Any other capture programs you guys could recommend for me to check out?

  • Audio stuttering in generated MP4 file from Captivate 6

I'm using Captivate 6.0.1.240 on a Windows 7 machine. I opened a project that I created in Captivate 5.5 and published the project to an MP4 file. This project is straightforward: I captured video, imported audio into the captured file, and then edited the file so the video and audio match up.
The problem is that I get audio stuttering in the generated MP4 file. This problem doesn't occur when I preview the file within Captivate or when I generate an SWF file. I've implemented the potential solutions in this forum but so far nothing has worked. Since I'm viewing the MP4 file on my hard drive, bandwidth isn't an issue, either.
My project is for an online course for RoboHelp, so I would prefer to use Adobe technologies to create the course. However, I can't do that if Captivate won't generate working MP4 files. I would be happy to share the output file so you can see what's happening. If you need any other information to solve this problem, please let me know.

Hi, Anjaneai. The size of the generated MP4 file using the default settings is 115MB. However, as I said in my original message, I'm generating this file on my own hard drive so there aren't any bandwidth issues. I have noticed that the time it takes to generate the MP4 file takes significantly longer than the time Captivate originally estimates. For example, Captivate says the project file will take a little over 3 minutes to convert, but the actual time was a little less than one hour. I'm not sure if that's due to the fact that I was running Firefox and the associated Flash plugin at the same time.
The audio is a separate object on the timeline. I simply added the audio within the Properties tab.
I'm not sure what smaller resolution I should try. Please send a suggested setting (perhaps the lowest one?) and I'll regenerate it to see if that works.
    Thanks,
    Eric Butow

  • Video/audio Stuttering on Macbook 13

    Hi All
I have a mid 2007 Macbook 13 running OS X Lion 10.7.4.  all up to date.  Initially I had 4G's of ram ( I know it only reads 3 ) now I have it running on only 2.
Problem is video/audio stuttering when running movies. mostly netflix and or connected to a flat screen tv. on wireless or wired connection.  but it also happens just running youtube videos or videos that I have on the system mostly in .AVI format.   I could be running movies with VLC or quicktime and same ting.  I've tried turning every running program off.  like firewall, little snitch, sophos AV, etc.  after turning them all off I do a restart.  I have done permssion repair, checked the disk, run the daily scripts,  even downgraded to SL to see if Lion was too much for the system and nothing.  of of the 4G's of ram that I have.  I swapped them to see if maybe one or 2 of them ware bad.  when I install the operating system, I do a clean install.  delete partition, format, the whole thing and bring it up to date.  not all at one time.  disk permissions repaired after each big updated.  almost half the time the videos will run ok and than it starts stuttering.  when is doing it.  not even the mouse responds in those few seconds.  is like something is grabbing all the system memory for a few seconds at a time.  it has gotten to the point that the system completly frezzes and I get that black translusent window that says the system needs to be restarted.
I have about 40% free HD space.
    Any ideas ?
    Thanks

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
The behavior you mention is typical of MacBooks with the GMA 950 video chipset and 64MB VRAM.
The best solution I've found is to quickly pause the video and let the video load completely before watching, IF the website allows it and will preload the content. Not all of them do. Some sites automatically buffer before they begin playing.
Watch in a window rather than full-screen.
Watch content on your MacBook screen rather than a HDTV.
The Safari Extension "ClickToFlash" lets you choose whether to load Flash content at all. It also allows 'preferring' H264/HTML5 web video content when available, and seems to be a bit better than simply defaulting to Flash content for every website.
I have a mid-2007 MacBook 2,1 with 4/3GB RAM. It is the very oldest model capable of supporting Lion. After reading of performance issues with these older systems in these forums, I chose to remain on Snow Leopard rather than upgrading to Lion. Snow Leopard runs most things I do very well in 3GB. Lion really seems to need 4GB and would like 8GB, from what I read here.
You don't mention how fast your internet connection is. A faster internet connection MIGHT help some. A wired Ethernet connection MIGHT offer a bit more throughput than WiFi. Worth trying out, especially if you have a friend with a faster connection where you can try before you pay to upgrade.
Ultimately we're talking about 5-year-old computers. That's "ancient" in computer life cycles, and the best solution (not most cost-effective) is a new(er) Mac. It's not a problem unique to Mac. Old Windows XP systems lack the performance of new hardware running 64-bit Windows 7.
New or recent Refurbs with 4GB or more RAM, faster video chipset, more VRAM, faster clock-speed, Intel "Sandy Bridge" (or "Ivy Bridge" likely coming soon) dual-core or quad-core processor, and, yes, a hefty pricetag to match. Anything else is at best a temporary measure to buy a bit of time (a year, maybe?) until you can purchase a new(er) faster better Mac.

  • Capturing Problem with Sony TRV330

Capturing problem with Sony digital8 trv330.
I recently purchased the above camcorder from eBay for capturing old 8mm/Hi8 tapes for editing purpose. The camcorder set to A/V -> DV OUT connected with Firewire to my Power G4 and the Easy Setup was DV-NTSC. The playback on the capture window looks OK except there were no timecode in the Timecode Duration Field and the Current Timecode Field (both shown 00:00:00:00) during playback but there was timedoce in the camcorder viewfinder. When I click the Capture Now button, the capturing window show up with message “waiting for timecode ….”. I have to click “esc” to stop the capturing operation. I trash the Preferences and Ran the Disk Utility without success. I also tried the Easy Setup with DV-NTSC DV Converter as well as DV-NTSC 32Khz, nothing work.
My set up is: Mac Power G4 version 10.5.5/ F.C.E. 4.0.1/ QT7.5.5/ Startup 160 GB-89 GB available/ Scratch 350GB-277GB available. Folks, I need help. Thanks everybody.

Hi, I have a similar problem. I am trying to digitize my 8mm tapes (via firewire) using final cut express (4.0.1). Using easy setup I use DV-NTSC DV Converter and do capture now. I transfer the entire tape but notice the audio is out of synch with the video. This problem gets worse throughout the transfer process. When I use the esc to complete the transfer I get the error " The audio sample rate of one or more of your captured media files does not match the sample rate on your source tape....." So after searching around it is recommended I change the audio sample rate to 32 kHz option. However, when I do this using easy setup and picking DV-NTSC 32kHz I cannot use capture now because I have no timecode and so the window comes up with the message "waiting for timecode". Since there is no timecode this option does not work. Any suggestions? Thanks, Dan

  • Strange "Audio Stutters" in All Exports

    Hello,
What I can only describe as "audio stutters" occur at seemingly random times in my Premiere Pro exports created with Media Encoder. They are very brief but noticeable intrusions that sound like glitches.
All audio sounds perfectly normal in Premiere; there are no problems on the timeline. I have tried the following troubleshooting steps:
    Restarting the computer
    Restarting the software
Cleaning Premiere's cache through the preferences panel
Changing the Renderer to "Mercury Playback Engine Software Only" in Media Encoder
Unchecking "Enable Parallel Encoding" in Media Encoder
These "stutters" occur in all exports; I have experimented with different projects stored on different drives, as well as with different formats (ie., H264 and Quicktime) and audio codecs (ie., AAC and MPEG).
The only way I have found to create an export WITHOUT "stutters" is by sending a sequence to Audition, creating a mixdown file, importing this file into Premiere, using it to replace the original audio, and then sending this single-audio-track sequence to Media Encoder.
I would love to be able to export from Premiere without having to run my audio through Audition. Any and all leads are welcome!
For your reference, I am running Premiere Pro CC on Windows 8.1, with a 3.60 GHz processor and 16 GB of RAM. I have 11 GB available for Adobe products. For what it's worth, I know for certain that I did not experience this problem prior to the 7.2 updates.
    Thanks in advance!

Clearing the Cache is best done outside of PP using Windows Explorer.  You can get the location of those files under Edit>Preferences>Media...
(On a side note, this Cache cleaning could use some improvement.  Please add your vote.  http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1369263?tstart=60)
If that changes nothing, it would be helpful if you could upload a file somewhere for us to hear the issue.

  • Audio stutters with WRT54G v7.00.1

    Hi all,
Last week I installed the Linksys WRT54G V.7 router. Since then, my audio stutters every 30 sec/minute . Music and movies just freeze for a second, than continue, 'till it happens again. When I disconnect from the router, everything works fine.
My router is also connected to a Xbox 360 (wired) and a Nintendo Wii (wireless, wifi). I've checked the security settings with the router's webutility, I use WPA2 AES, Beacon Interval: 50, Fragmentation Threshold: 2306, RTS Threshold: 2307.
I've tried for days, but nothing works. I have a Sound Blaster Live Value soundcard. Could anyone PLEASE help me?? I'm getting really annoyed. Thanks in advance.
    Greetings,
    Pater

Oh really? I forgot to mention. The computer having the audio problem has a wired connection with the router. Could it be affected by the wireless antenna's?
But I could try it. Won't this have a negative effect on my wireless connections (Nintendo Wii, Notebook)? Does it matter wether it's the left or right antenna?
I'm not at home at the moment, but tomorrow night I'll try your suggestion. I'll let you know, ok?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Windows 8.1 Audio Stuttering

Since upgrading to 8.1 my computer's audio has been stuttering. For instance whenever I play music either on windows media player or on youtube etc, when doing an activity while its playing, the audio stutters.
    Heres my specs:
    Motherboard: Asus P8Z68-V lx
    Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3570K CPU @ 3.40 GHz 3.40 GHz
    RAM: 4.00 GB
System type: 64-bit Operating System, x64 based processor
If more information is needed I can send the dxdiag file.

    Hi,
Faced the same problem on updating my Dell XT2 from windows 7 64 Bit to Windows 8.1. As windows automatically installed its default HD audio drivers, I did not bother to use the actual chipset drivers that came along with the XT2. The audio used to stutter
very badly, especially when on Power Saver mode / Balanced mode and some other process would start. The stuttering reduced when I shifted to the High performance mode, but still took place randomly.
Just went to the dell site, downloaded the IDT drivers (A16) for windows 7 6 bit, and installed it in the compatibility mode. Hey presto, no stutter, even in the power saver mode!!!!
Enjoying my music. The issue is with the windows default drivers and the priority assigned to the task in the low power consumption modes. Try Installing the original drivers that came with the machine. Should resolve the issue

  • Movie audio stuttering

Since ITUNES last software update, Quicktime Movies (taken from my didital camera) which I convert to play on my ipod, play with the audio "stuttering". It is not an ipod problem, since the converted file stutters even when I play it back on my PC. I have some Quicktime files which I had conerted BEFORE the last update, and, they still play OK. However, If I convert them again with the latest software, the resulting file will stutter on playback.
I do see that the older converted files have a "BIT RATE" of 128 kbps while the most recently convert files have a bit rate of 94 kbps. This may be the problem....does anyone know how to set the bite rate for file conversion in Quick Time??

It is my experience that the DVD will also have the audio stuttering. I've had several projects with the same issue. It's frustrating. There is a thread that addresses the audio stutterning problem. I was not able to work around the problem on a video that I created. I will enclose the link:
