Audio stutters when under CPU load, USB sound issue?

ACD 27" connected to a PC via displayport/mini displayport adapter. When playing music while doing CPU intensive tasks, the audio instantly stutters, cuts out, grumbles, etc. This suggest my PC is simply not powerful enough however that's not the case (specs below).
What i've determined.
1. This only happens when using the apple display for audio.
2. When speakers/headphones are plugged in to the motherboard, everything works great.
3. This happens with all audio applications. itunes, vlc, winamp, etc.
The display uses its built in USB cable for audio, right? I'm thinking it's gotta be some typ of driver issue for USB audio. However I've updated all drivers so I'm stumped there.
Specs:
Intel Core i5-2500K @ 4.6GHz (65-70* under load)
CORSAIR CWCH60 Hydro Series H60 High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler
GIGABYTE GA-Z68MA-D2H-B3
G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (4 x 4GB) DDR3 1600
Kingston HyperX SH100S3B/120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III SSD
SAPPHIRE 100326L Radeon HD 6670 1GB 128-bit GDDR5
Apple 27" LED Cinema Display (via displayport)
Thanks for any help!

  • Parallels' vmmain.kext causing jumpy/erratic mouse under CPU load

Have posted the below at the Parallels forum, thought it might help people here though.
Finally tracked the cause of something that has been bugging the heck out of me for a while.
Under Leopard 10.5.1, under CPU load (at least 1 core of my core 2 duo maxing out) the trackpad pointer would jump about, usually about 2-3 seconds apart, would also become slow and basically super annoying to use. The funny thing is it would only happen when NOT connected to my wireless network (would happen even if airport was turned off). Checking the console would show lots of "kernel [Parallels] IPI stat: rescheduled 1 cpus out of 2." which struck me as odd since Parallels wasn't even running.
Anyway, tracked it down to vmmain.kext which gets loaded at startup from the parallels script in /library/startupitems/parallels.
Again, Parallels does not need to be running at all for the mouse pointer to be affected.
I'm currently working around the issue by removing the startupparameters.plist (thus making parallels services, vmmain.kext etc not load at startup, and if I want to run parallels I just manually start the needed extensions/services (wrote an applescript which just basically does "sudo sh /Library/StartupItems/Parallels/Parallels start; sudo sh /Library/StartupItems/ParallelsTransporter/ParallelsTransporter start") and then stop the services after I'm done with parallels.
Never happened under Tiger though, must be a leopard thing. I'm pretty sure airport has something to do with it as it only happens when I'm not connected to a wireless network.
Anyways, hope this may help someone.

  • Does the iphone cpu frequency change when the cpu load is different?

Does the iphone cpu frequency change when the cpu load is different, or it does not change, stay a fixed frequency? if it changes, how can i get the realtime cpu frequency?if anyone knows, please tell me, thank you so much!!!

As a general, historical statement Tonefox is correct.  For certain particular cpus woodmeister is correct.  Cpus have historically been single frequency units, though over-clocking has been done for several years.  Doing so pushes the cpu beyond its guaranteed speed, but has tended to work since most cpus from quality vendors will actually operate at higher speeds.  The manufacturer just does not guarantee the results...remember the Pentium fiasco in the early years of that chip?  Today manufacturers are ceertifying particular product lines for over-clocking on a periodic basis.  And that is what dynamic clocking really is, over-clocking but not at a constant clock speed as has been done in the past.
Much of the silicon on the market will function at higher clock rates, the only question is does the maker guarantee the accuracy and performance at those clock rates.

  • Audio and video skip after installing USB Sound Blaster Audigy 2

Hi community,?Since installing my USB Sound Blaster Audigy 2 NX, audio and video skip when being played with either windows media player, winamp, iTunes, neroshow, winDVD 7, creatives own media players etc. in fact anything I can try, won't work. Games are fine, in fact the sound is brilliant. I'd be really grateful for any feedback on this, not being able to listen to music is driving me crazy. Thanks.

Hello thebro90,I had the same problem. After tryed everything, uninstall, reinstall audio drivers, etc, I finally manage to solved it by updating the CPU drivers... I have a AMD Atlhon X2 4800+Never had the problem again.Best regards.

  • Audio Stuttering When Importing Video

    Hey guys, quick question.
I am currently working on a project that was given to me in the form of one Mini-DV tape. I'm trying to capture the footage into Premiere CS3, however, both as I'm capturing and while I'm watching the captured footage, there is a ton of audio stuttering, rendering the clips worthless.
I'm capturing using a Canon Ultura A mini-dv cam. When I listen to the audio coming from the camera's speakers, it's perfect. Only on the computer do I have issues with it.
My computer's speed should not be a problem either, I'm running premiere on this:
    Intel Core2Duo E6600 @ 2.4
    2 GB DDR2-800 ram
MSI P6N Platinum Motherboard (This is where the firewire port is located)
    Nvidia 8800 GTX Graphics card
    Creative X-fi Soundcard.
    Any ideas on potential fixes?

Interesting, I will have to try and find another firewire cable to see if that fixes the problem.
Any other capture programs you guys could recommend for me to check out?

Source and destination ports are correctly set. Wireshark shows the correct HTML inside the packets that are returned to 0.0.0.0. The web server log also looks normal; the correct IP address is displayed and logged as a successful request.
When dropping incomming traffic on port 80 on eth0 everything works as expected (when requesting the server on eth1, which otherwise fails).
I'm running on "Linux srv 3.0-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Wed Oct 19 12:14:48 UTC 2011 i686" which is the latest kernel in the repos. When booting the fallback image this problem does not exist, all packets are correctly addressed no matter how much load I put on the server.
Does anyone else have this problem?
    Edit:
Running lighttpd 1.4.29. No tweaked kernel/TCP parameters whatsoever.

Did a full reinstall of Arch on another machine and the problem still persist. Tried with Apache and Nginx, same behaviour as with Lighttpd. Could anyone else using an arch box under heavy load see if there's activity from 0.0.0.0?
    Hint:
    # tcpdump -n host 0.0.0.0
I'll do a bug report upstream later today.

  • I do not have audio output when my guitar to usb cable is plugged into my ipad

I have a guitar to USB cable, I have the USB adapter for my iPad. I am trying to record my guitar in garageband, when the guitar to USB cable is plugged in I cannot hear anything, not even the metronome. If I try to playback what I recorded I cannot hear it, even with headphones. I unplug the cable and I can hear. I don't know what I am missing so that I can hear my guitar through the amp while I am recording.

Nope. Only the steps stated in the support document where you posted your query.

  • T42 Audio stutters when WLAN turned on

    Hi @all!
We've got a weird Problem over here: we have some T42 Thinkpads with Win XP Pro and all Updates (Win and most recent drivers from Lenovo) installed and the audio-playback gets stuck when the WLAN is activated. When we disable WLAN (via FN-F5) stuttering stops and normal playback works like a charm.
Problem occurs in every Player we tested (iTunes, Windows Media Player, WinAmp etc.) and with all Power Schemes and different amounts of RAM installed.
Installed WLAN-Card is an Intel card with 2100b chipset.
Anyone encountereda similar Problem? Anyone with a solution for this?
    Thanks for your help!

    Dan,
It sounds like one of your preferences has changed.
Go to preferences > audio > general, and make sure "track mute/solo" is set to "CPU saving (slow response)". It is probably set to "Fast " at the moment.
This setting (fast) basically causes immediate muting from the channel strip while your song is in play. This is because the audio is still being read from the hard drive, but the channel strip is simply muted.... like a hardware mixer. When set to "CPU saving", the audio from that track, when muted, is actually stopped from streaming from the hard drive, but there is a couple second delay before the audio is actually muted.
One would think that the fast setting is generally preferable, except when you need to do what you are doing. The only way to keep duplicate copies of channel strips acting independent of one another is to leave this setting on the "CPU saving" setting.
    Hope that helps

  • How to redirect to a server busy page when under heavy load

    Hello,

It is possible to create and use your own execute queue in 6.1 and specify it's
length, so I expected this to happen when queue length reaches this number, but
              it didn't.

  • Audio stutters when listening to music on U410

I have a U410 ultrabook (purchased in Nov. 2012) which has been working fine until a couple weeks ago. Almost any time I try to listen to music now (either online with internet radio or locally with mp3s), the sound will stutter and skip. This happens about once a minute.
I haven't installed any new software or changed drivers lately, but the computer does seem to be slowing down a bit compared to when it was brand new.
Has anyone else experienced this problem or have any ideas on fixes?

  • Audio Stuttering When Music Score is Inserted

I created my first video using Premiere Elements 12 & was pleased with the results. YAY!!!  I deleted all the existing audio and used Audio | Drag & Drop to insert Spin followed by Afternoon Sun.  Worked great, saved the file & uploaded to YouTube.  I then realized that I wanted to add two additional clips totaling less than 10 seconds.  My first mistake was in not saving the file under a new name immediately (DOH!), but I digress. New video clips added to Project Assets panel, inserted into Timeline & trimmed a tad.  No problem.  I then tried to expand the audio to include the new clips. Realized one couldn't simply make the tune longer to accommodate the additions so I deleted the audio completely & added the audio scores as though starting fresh. The audio / music score skipped every few seconds with no discernible pattern, say, always at the beginning of a new clip.  I made sure that I had clicked on Render, but that didn't smooth out the silent gaps in the music.  Even the preview of the two musical scores stuttered intermittently so I thought the files must have somehow become corrupted.
I saved the file under a new name, exited the program, uninstalled, then reinstalled Premiere from the DVD.  After all that, the previews STILL stutter.  I've lost an entire afternoon trying to add those two brief clips. I can see the cursor flicker during the preview, but can't figure out how to correct the issue. I have closed down every other program & re-booted and it would seem that my 8GB of RAM should be sufficient plus it worked before, even with Photoshop Elements & Chrome open.  Since the audio files are downloaded, I thought a slow download speed might be at fault.  I ran a SpeedTest showing my download speed is 12 Mbps. I've had Premiere 10 on my computer for ages & never used it, but upgraded to 12 specifically to have access to royalty-free music & now that feature isn't working. As a newbie, I'm probably missing something obvious.  PLEASE HELP before I resort to violence against my poor computer.
    Thanks!
    Victoria

I forgot to mention that my mp3 files play fine so this isn't an issue with my speakers. Further, I get the stuttering / gaps in other music scores I've not even downloaded while using the Music Score preview feature.

  • High CPU Load with Alesis Multimix Usb 2.0 mixer

    Hi everybody,
i'm still playing around with logic studio 9, mainly mainstage 2.1.1 for a possible future live use.
Today i tried to use my Alesis Multimix 8 usb2.0, just as the output devices, using software instruments with a m-audio keystation.
I always get cpu peak load when playing notes, with every patch, either internal apple instrument or third party au instruments, when idle cpu load goes to about 40%...
If i revert back to internal output / internal input, cpu load drastically goes down to 10% idle and max 50-60% with internal instruments, max 80% with 2-3 layers of third party au instruments (Omnisphere, loungelizard, m-tron)...
I know that Alesis mac drivers for snow leopard are at a beta stage, but am i the only one experiencing this or is it a known problem?
    Thanks,
    Alex.

    Hi Pan,
i made a different test today...
I know it's not the same but i tried using a guitar rig on mainstage (guitar on channel1 in the mixer), and even with 256 samples i ALWAYS get 100% cpu usage...
then closed mainstage and opened NI Guitar Rig 3 as standalone, using the alesis as interface, with 64 samples as buffer, i cannot go over 13-14% of CPU usage (Hi quality enabled)... I know that mainstage adds more effects than the ones i selected in guitar rig 3, but the HUGE difference in cpu usage cannot be just that, i mean...
It could be if one of the effects Mainstage was using is Space Designer.
If it is using Space Designer try using a lesser reverb, like Gold.
USB doesn't use that much more CPU so that's not the problem.
You are comparing two separate guitar setups, correct? Or do you mean you're opening Guitar Rig 3 in Mainstage?
    pancenter-
As I understand it you are opening completely different setups, correct.

  • [SOLVED] Audio dropouts with USB sound card

Hi! Recently I bought an external USB sound card (Music Fidelity V-DAC). If I plug in the USB cable the sound device is recognized by Phonon in KDE4 (kdemod).
If I play an audio file in Amarok (or VLC) the audio is indeed redirected to the USB sound card and played correctly. However, if I use my USB mouse, or USB keyboard dropouts are occurring in the audio signal. It seems that other USB devices are interfering with my USB sound card.
    More details:
Arch Linux with kernel 2.6.33 and kdemod 4. Phonon backend is Xine. I also tried gstreamer, but this crashes Amarok/

Thanks for your suggestion. I added the following line to my /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf file:

After a reboot the problem still persists. I also tried another suggestion from this forum:
    options snd-usb-audio nrpacks=1
This doesn't work either. I tried to change settings in /etc/security/limits.conf, which looks like this:
    @audio - rtprio 99
    @audio - nice -10
    @audio - memlock 250000
The USB sound card doesn't share a IRQ with another USB devices, as can be seen here:

I even tried to disable the internal sound card by blacklisting it:
    blacklist snd-hda-intel
    .. but still no success

  • XServer CPU Leds on front are don't indicated current cpu load

    Hello Everyone
As you know on front side of XServer four led lines one per CPU(logical), After last firmware upgrade half year ago they splashing only when Xserver restarted but when working Cpu load don't show, Only shine one blue bug led per avery line and don't shine small of load.
Average load 50-80% in Active Monitor
    Boot ROM XS11.0080.B01

Ok.  I think I've found the root cause of this issue.  It seems that the WD Green drives use a thing called intellipark that will park the drive heads every 8 seconds.  When used under Linux the normal flush interval for a drive is 30 sec so what appears to be happening is that the heads on the drive are parking too quickly resulting in any flush to the drive having to re-spin up the drive to write, killing performance and killing the drive.  I don't know if this is causing the IO waits on my system but it seems likely.  Though it happens on mine with active IO so I can't see that it's the drive spinning down unless the idle detection on the drive is haywire.  Still.  It's something else to try.
This thread contains some information about it:
    http://www.networkedmediatank.com/showt … 327&page=1
Apparently WD have a dos utility that can disable or reprogram the park interval on these drives.  It's called wdidle3.exe and is hard to come by.
WD only hand it out per support request but I managed to find a link to the file on the web, I haven't used it yet so I can't vouch for it.  But if you want to try you can find it here:
    http://home.arcor.de/ghostadmin/wdidle3_1_00.zip
The next problem is requiring a dos boot disk.  If I can find my USB key I'll be making a USB Freedos disk so I can attempt to turn this off on my drive, then I can re-test.
I can't believe how seemingly hard it is for drive manufacturers (both the majors Seagate and WD), to get firmware and functions on these drives right.  If I could find a sales rep for seagate or WD I'd gladly return these drives... Rectally.
    Cheers,
    Arkay.

  • Video/audio Stuttering on Macbook 13

    Hi All
I have a mid 2007 Macbook 13 running OS X Lion 10.7.4.  all up to date.  Initially I had 4G's of ram ( I know it only reads 3 ) now I have it running on only 2.
Problem is video/audio stuttering when running movies. mostly netflix and or connected to a flat screen tv. on wireless or wired connection.  but it also happens just running youtube videos or videos that I have on the system mostly in .AVI format.   I could be running movies with VLC or quicktime and same ting.  I've tried turning every running program off.  like firewall, little snitch, sophos AV, etc.  after turning them all off I do a restart.  I have done permssion repair, checked the disk, run the daily scripts,  even downgraded to SL to see if Lion was too much for the system and nothing.  of of the 4G's of ram that I have.  I swapped them to see if maybe one or 2 of them ware bad.  when I install the operating system, I do a clean install.  delete partition, format, the whole thing and bring it up to date.  not all at one time.  disk permissions repaired after each big updated.  almost half the time the videos will run ok and than it starts stuttering.  when is doing it.  not even the mouse responds in those few seconds.  is like something is grabbing all the system memory for a few seconds at a time.  it has gotten to the point that the system completly frezzes and I get that black translusent window that says the system needs to be restarted.
I have about 40% free HD space.
    Any ideas ?
    Thanks

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
The behavior you mention is typical of MacBooks with the GMA 950 video chipset and 64MB VRAM.
The best solution I've found is to quickly pause the video and let the video load completely before watching, IF the website allows it and will preload the content. Not all of them do. Some sites automatically buffer before they begin playing.
Watch in a window rather than full-screen.
Watch content on your MacBook screen rather than a HDTV.
The Safari Extension "ClickToFlash" lets you choose whether to load Flash content at all. It also allows 'preferring' H264/HTML5 web video content when available, and seems to be a bit better than simply defaulting to Flash content for every website.
I have a mid-2007 MacBook 2,1 with 4/3GB RAM. It is the very oldest model capable of supporting Lion. After reading of performance issues with these older systems in these forums, I chose to remain on Snow Leopard rather than upgrading to Lion. Snow Leopard runs most things I do very well in 3GB. Lion really seems to need 4GB and would like 8GB, from what I read here.
You don't mention how fast your internet connection is. A faster internet connection MIGHT help some. A wired Ethernet connection MIGHT offer a bit more throughput than WiFi. Worth trying out, especially if you have a friend with a faster connection where you can try before you pay to upgrade.
Ultimately we're talking about 5-year-old computers. That's "ancient" in computer life cycles, and the best solution (not most cost-effective) is a new(er) Mac. It's not a problem unique to Mac. Old Windows XP systems lack the performance of new hardware running 64-bit Windows 7.
New or recent Refurbs with 4GB or more RAM, faster video chipset, more VRAM, faster clock-speed, Intel "Sandy Bridge" (or "Ivy Bridge" likely coming soon) dual-core or quad-core processor, and, yes, a hefty pricetag to match. Anything else is at best a temporary measure to buy a bit of time (a year, maybe?) until you can purchase a new(er) faster better Mac.
