Audio suddenly stops working

Over the past few days, I've been having trouble with the audio on my computer. When I start it up, the audio is working fine. However, after some time has passed, (it varies each time) the audio suddenly stops working. I can mute the audio, but it takes about 5 presses of the button to do so. The audio will not play at all; not for webpages, Windows Media Player, or even the system sounds.
Troubleshooter cannot detect any problems with the audio and whenever I try to change the properties of the speakers, it claims "This device is being used by another application", even when I do not have any applications open. All drivers are up to date, and other than the audio not playing, the computer runs fine. By restarting the computer, the problem fixes itself, but eventually the sound disappears again.
If at all possible, I would prefer a solution that will not delete any files or programs that I have downloaded. I'm also very inept with computers, so I may need a step-by-step walkthrough to follow.

Audio suddenly stops working with my voice over although I can see the track there is no sound?

So I'm doing a project and recording voice, in several parts, over with no problems. I go to play back and it all works just fine for a few minutes then the audio suddenly cuts out. I can see all the clips with the associated graphs and can't see any issues, the audio just stops???

If it will not connect to your computer, and it will not connect to the Internet, either via WiFi or cellular data, then there is no practical way to extract the information. There are no magic words that will fix the broken hardware.
You could try a 3rd party data recovery service, but doing so will forfeit your right to a discounted out of warranty replacement. Only you can decide it it's worth that.

USB audio suddenly stops working

It's really weird. Regular audio output works fine, but if I plug in a USB audio device it will work for about a minute and then stop. I can reproduce this reliably with both a Griffin iMic and a C-Media USB audio widget. Once the device has stopped working, if I unplug it and plug it back in it wiil work for another minute or so and then stop again. This only started happening in the last week or so. Before that it was working fine for months. AFAIK I haven't changed anything. I haven't done any major software updates, and I'm not running any new applications.
Also, while it's not working, it's not off 100%. It seems to have something to do with the audio driver. If, for example, I do this at the terminal:
say hello world ; say hello world ; say hello world
I will hear "hello ... hello ... hello ..." (where the elipses indicate about a second of silence).
If I do:
say hello ; say hello ; say hello
then I just get little blips of sound.
Has anyone seen this problem before?

Audio suddenly stopped working

I'm running a Mac Pro on Mountain Lion, version 10.8.5. I installed the latest updates last night and the audio on my computer stopped working. None of the wires had been moved, and I tried unplugging and replugging them in, both to the back of the computer and to the headphone jack. I also tried plugging headphones into both, and there were no changes.
I have since tried rebooting my computer several times, I tried repairing permissions, I tried to use time machine to go back to before I updated the computer and I deleted the bezelservices preference file. None worked.
System preferences does not show the line out as an option under sound, and tells me that there are no options. Any suggestions welcome. Please help. Thank you in advance!

Audio suddenly stopped working (Internal speakers & Through audio jack)

I am running Windows 7 on a Toshiba Sattelite L750 (Model PSK1WC - 12M10S)
Two days ago I opened my laptop up in the morning and when I went to listen to a song no audio was projected. I Checked to make sure that it was not muted and that the internal speaker was infact enabled in playback devices, both were good.
I tried listening through headphones and still no volume.
What is wierd is that the computer seems to still think it is creating volume as I can still see the green volume bar "dancing" when a song is playing.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Outputs Suddenly Stopped Working.

I have a 5th gen Ipod that I've taken very good care of. Until yesterday I've had no problems with it at all. I was using the Ipod in my car w/ my Itrip and the Audio suddenly stopped working. I assumed it was the Itrip not working correctly, so I plugged it into a set of speakers (via the bottom output) but that wasn't working either. Then I plugged headphones in and there is no audio feeding through the headphone output either. I can see on the screen that the songs are playing on the ipod, but apparently the outputs are not functioning correctly. I tried all of the "Rs" recommended in troubleshooting but those did not help. Any suggestions?

i have the exact same problem. Although i am able to here the clicks throught the headphones which makes me wonder that this is something with software. although i have restored and reinstalled and all that, nothing.
Anyone have a solution?

Why did video and audio chat suddenly stop working?

I used to be able to video and audio chat with my parents, but it suddenly stopped working. They use AIM.
I get the "There was a communication error during your chat" message come up when I try to connect to their video chat requests. I spent a couple hours reading the old posts on this issue, but nothing seems to work for me. Thanks to anyone who can help me -- my parents in Illinois want to be able to see their grandbaby!

Ok,
Most routing devices have ports that are open (1 - 1024) that allow you to use Web Browser and Mail apps without any set up.
Certain apps need other ports open or allowed as thy are normally closed (1024 - 65535)
Now there are several ways to open these ports.
One method is called Port Forwarding and points the ports you list to one IP on your LAN (The one your computer is getting/using)
Now if the routing device is left doing DHCP this IP can change now and then meaning the Port Forwarding is no longer pointing to the Computer (IP).
If your computer (or your parents in this case) is left on all the time it tends to keep the IP as the Lease as it is called is renewed.
However if the computer is Off for longer than the lease time It will get a new IP
The thing to do is check the routing device's Settings.
This site lists many devices.
If yours is there click on it.
On the next page Click on iChat
You will now see the Default Access Info (And the Port Forwarding info)
DO NOT DO the Port Forwarding but check the settings.
If it does have Port Forwarding set up check the IP it lists as going to matches the one you see in System Preferences > Network for your computer.
AS you say your parents were away for a time I suspect it may be their end.

Have you tried booting into safe mode and doing a Windows repair?
You can run the The HP Support Assistant to help resolve issues and update drivers. You can do a restore back to a time when it was working correctly Using Microsoft System Restore (Windows 8). You can manually download drivers from the download page for your system. HP Drivers & Downloads

I have no idea what triggered this. Other projects work with volume. But my current project will play the audio but no volume. HELP please.

How exactly stopped working? Three things to try
Using Windows Explorer navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader, then double-click on Eula.exe and accept the license agreement
Can you open Adobe Reader by itself? If so, try disabling Protected Mode [Edit | Preferences | Security (Enhanced)].
It could even be a malware issue; see http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/reader-core-dll-error.html

Audio playback suddenly stopped working?

Audio playback stopped working in my project. The audio is there, but the checkbox in the audio pane will not function. I can click on it all day, but no check appears, and no audio plays.
I have tried typical troubleshooting. Trash prefs, try different audio files and such. If I make a new project, audio plays in it just fine, but after a few minutes work in that project, the audio goes out again, never to return.
Any ideas??

Satellite L300 - Built In webcam suddenly stopped working

Hello,
I have a Toshiba Satellite L300 with a built in 2.0 USB camera and a windows 7 operating system, the camera suddenly stopped working since about 2-3 weeks ago with unknown reason!
I already tried system restore, un-installing and re-installing the camera driver, preformed a full scan by kaspersky internet antivirus 2012 (up to date), and I also ran a complete system and drivers troubleshooting ... and the problem still exists ...
When I use the windows live movie maker it gives me an error saying: cant record audio or video from the selected device. Make sure that the device you're trying to use is installed properly and not currently in use by another program.
The microphone works well on skype but the camera doesn't open!
Please tell me how to fix it, what am I missing?

Usually if the webcam software has been installed, you should be able to start this software going to:
All Programs -> Toshiba
There you should find the webcam software check if you can use and control the webcam after this software has been started normally the webcam control bar should pop up if you would move the mouse cursor above the upper display area PS: the bar can be moved to other area too; left right or bottom

Audio tracks stopped working

i tried to solo an audio track and when i unclicked the S button a red line crossed through it and suddenly several other audio tracks stopped working. anyone?

ISight suddenly stopped working

My iSight suddenly stopped working in the middle of a Skype connection. It had been working correctly: my contact heard me and saw my image. Then, the sound suddenly was lost, and after that the image. The green light on the iSight went off. If I plug the firewire cable into another port, the light comes on for a few seconds, then goes off. The iSight is identified in About This Mac. I took the iSight to the local Genius Bar, and it worked perfectly on 2 other Mac's. I was advised to re-install the OS with archive, but isn't there anything more simple?

Here are some things you can try.
(1) If you used your own iSight's cable when you tested your iSight at the Genius Bar, you know neither the cable nor your iSight is the problem.
You can test your iSight with other applications to determine whether you have problems with more than one. Also, consider the link there to Apple's "iSight: How to Troubleshoot" suggestions.
(2) If your only problem is with Skype, consider reinstalling Skype or check out Skype's great Help section. Skype even hosts its own discussion forums dedicated to Skype specific issues.
(3) If your iSight has problems with more than one application, consider whether your Mac OS X Maintenance is up to date. Maintenance is the first thing I check when I begin to experience minor problems or system slowdown.
(4) If your problem persists although your OS X Maintenance is current, download and apply this Mac OS X 10.4.8 Combo Update (PPC). Finish with another Permissions Repair and check your iSight again.
Users have reported fixes to a variety of audio, video, connectivity, and software conflicts and unreliability issues after properly applying Combo Updates.
The Combo Updater will be much simpler than an A&I reinstall.

Speakers suddenly stopped working

my sounds suddenly stopped working. After talking to a couple of knowledgeable people, I uninstalled the Realteck audio driver, and then I had decent sound coming through the speakers ! This is for an HP desktop, a6750y
So then I tried to re-install the driver. Although the driver had the same file name, it was newer than the one previously on the system, so I re-installed it, and once again, no sound. So I uninstalled this version, but now I have no sound !!!!
I do get sound through the headphones.

Have you checked in "Control Panel / Sound" to assure that your sound device is selected as the default? I have had this happen to me many times over the years; especially, if I have made changes of any kind to my computer.

Sound suddenly stopped working.

Hi, my sound on my HP ENVY 15 Notebook PC just suddenly stopped working the other day. Everything says that it is functioning, and my drivers are up to date, but I cannot seem to get the sound to work out of my speakers or out of headphones.

Try the following.
Download the IDT Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.
http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp56501-57000/sp56900.exe
When done, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers. Right click the IDT device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.
When complete,download and reinstall the Chipset driver on the link below.
Chipset Driver - Windows 7.
When this has completed, shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then hold down the Power and Beats buttons for 10 seconds. When done, reconnect the AC Adapter.
Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu. Press f5 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f9, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter. Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.
Let Windows fully load - it will automatically load an audio driver, but just let this complete. Then open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation. When this has completed, right click the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select Playback Devices. Left click 'Speakers and Headphones' once to highlight it and then click the Set Default button - check if you now have audio.
