Audio Sync Issue on Export

Hello,
I have an issue with an export that I am attempting to do.  I have used 50 still photos (psd) and created a slide show in after effects.  It is working well.  I attempted to create 4 comps made from standard dv footage.  720 x 480 from video cameras in the 1990s.  I need to export out eventually to 1920 x 1080 for showing on our TV channel.  It would be a .m2t format.  When i attempted to do a test export, everything worked fine....the photo comps were good, the only problems were the video clips that had video/audio sync issues.
I am not sure what the problem is exactly.  I feel my workflow is not right and that is leading to this issue.
I created the 50 slide comps in AE
I then used the hour long DV clips in PrPRO to make sub clips (about 30 seconds each, total of 8)
I rendered these out to then import into AE
imported into AE and made comps out of them
then render out a test file that would be my finalproject in mpeg format.
I would like to not render the video a second time and would like, basically to take my AE photo comps straight to prmiere pro to insert the DV footage but don't know how exactly to do that.
Is there something that you can recommend.
Thanks,
M

  • Audio Sync Issue When Exporting to Quicktime

Currently using Premiere Pro CS3 3.2 and Quicktime 7.5.5
When I export to a quicktime .mov, my audio is a few frames out of sync. I've tried downgrading to older versions of quicktime with no success. Everything is completely in sync inside Premiere. If I import my rendered out-of-sync .mov back into Premiere, it magically syncs up fine again. It's the weirdest thing.
    Help!

    Scott:
    There is a workaround.
I never really found a solid cause/solution, but if you're noticing that you have a couple of white frames at the end of your Quicktime exports, then you're probably suffering the same problem I have. Tech people I have checked with have suggested that the problem may be related to the use of .mp3 sound files (as opposed to .wav) in the Premiere project, but after removing them and replacing them with .wav's the problem persisted.
I am not technical enough to figure out exactly what's causing the problem, but I think it must have something to do with the Adobe Media Encoder (at least how it works on my computer). From what I've read on the subject, the Media Encoder is Premiere's Achilles's Heel.
Changing versions of Quicktime did nothing. Others trying to solve this problem have tried exporting their files with every conceivable variation of options and settings in the Adobe Media Encoder with no positive result.
I'm not the only one with this issue, but searches of the Internet show it to be relatively rare, so it's probably some weird glitch somewhere deep in my system. It's not widely-reported enough for anyone to care about addressing this bug. Of the few people that I've found suffering from this anomaly, none have found a fix.
But the good news is that I have found a workaround that accomplishes getting a quicktime file out properly that does work for me. I avoid the Adobe Media Encoder completely.
Step 1: Go to File > Export > Movie, and under Settings > General choose QuickTime, under Video > Compressor choose H.264, then Uncompressed Audio. I have not experimented with other settings, but believe that most of them will do just fine.
If you examine the quicktime file you've just exported, you'll see it works just swell; i.e. no white frames at the end of the movie and the sound syncs up perfectly. Okay, sounds great---but there's no way to limit the data rate using this method, which means we're stuck with a ridiculously large file.
The solution is to load the Quicktime file that you've just exported into Quicktime Pro, and now export it using data rate compression / sound compression options to suit your tastes. Bingo!
The other workaround that I have heard from some is to export your movie (again, avoiding the Adobe Media Encoder, instead using File > Export > Movie) as an Uncompressed AVI, and then compress with QT pro as before. This method didn't work for me, something about not having the proper codec on my system to read the AVI file that was exported, which makes absolutely zero sense but I couldn't find the right codec anywhere, even after identifying it with some super-duper codec identification utility. Go figure!
So, you'll have to get QT Pro ($30 I think) to use this workaround, but it does work, and that's what counts. I have no idea if there's a QT Pro clone or similar program available out there. Compression/decompression and all that jazz is way beyond me and I'm just happy to be able to get my file finally out there in working condition.
The only other bit of information I might share with you is that I tried searching the Internet at great length to try and solve this issue, but on the rare occasion I did find someone suffering this problem they were as confounded and frustrated as I was, and no one had a real solution. I continued to search with different search terms and tripped over the clues to this solution when searching for "white frame problem" in relation to Premiere. I even believe that if you search the Abobe forums you may find some posts about it, so if you're inclined to learn more about it, I suggest concentrating your searches with terms that refer to the white frame problem/issue, instead of the terms I used for so long, such as "Premiere Audio Sync Quicktime" and the endless permutations thereof.
But I'll bet this workaround works for you. Let me know, and if you'd like me to try it on one of your exports on my computer I'd be happy to give it a go.
I have often wondered if upgrading to CS4 would solve this problem. Are you using CS3 like me? If I could be sure CS4 made this issue vanish I would jump on it, but there just isn't enough information out there to know for sure. I'm inclined to think not.
Please do let me know if this solution works for you, or if you dig up any new information.
    Thanks!

  • Audio sync issue when exporting to h.264

I've seen this issue reported many times, but can't find an answer, or whether it's simply another bug in Premiere CS5.  The same issue happens on more than one computer (PC with Intel i7, 64 bit, GeForce GTX 470, and BlackMagic video card), the video is HDV using Sony Compact flash.  Audio sync is fine throughout editing and exporting to standard DVD or h.264 blu-ray using Encore Dynamic link.  But when I export directly from premiere to create a flash video or h.264 720p video, the audio moves ahead of the video by about 4 frames.  This didn't happen with CS4. There is a similar issue if I export using MPEG2, though the audio error seems less consistent.  Have wasted very many hours, and a fix or solution would be welcome!  Many thanks.

Having the same issue here. Some kind of solution would make me so happy right now.
I've shot and edited a series of short interviews on a DSLR. So I've started with H.264 files and I'm attempting to export the final product to h.264 and the audio is very noticeably out of sync.
The only workaround I've come up with so far is as follows:
    1. Export the audio only from the original sequence
    2. Export the video only from the original sequence
3, Start a new sequence and drop in the files I just created.
When I export that sequence, for some reason, it syncs perfectly. Needless to say however, this is a huge inconvenience and time waster, especially when it comes to making further edits.

  • Major "BUG" in Imovie 9 - Audio Sync Problem on Export  !

Well I'm a hard-core Apple user from day one, but unfortunately today I'm not to proud about the latest version of Imovie 9.
It seems there has been a "MAJOR audio sync problem on export" in Imovie 9, since July 2009. Apple knows about this bug for a long time now, but didn't release any bugfix yet!
    Here's what it's all about:
It seems if you use the (custom /manual) speed-adjustments and not the preset slider speeds, you will experience (after exporting your movie) annoying bursts of audio from clips that had been set to mude. The strange thing is that you will only experience this audio-bug after exporting, you will NOT experience it in the project playback mode!
    Here's what you can do:
Find ALL the clips in your Project that are Speed Adjusted.
Instead of using a "Custom Speed" percentage, use any of the "Preset Speeds"
    Preset Speeds on the Slider = 12.5%, 25%, 50%, 100%, 200%, 400%, 800%
Then, export your project as usual.
    No more sync issues.
Really hope That Apple will come up with a real BUGFIX soon.
It's a shame that a major bug in a otherwise GREAT PRODUCT, hasen't been fixed yet!
What's wrong with Apple?...this is not one of their finest hours.
Still A BIG fan from Imovie HD,...I'll chance to Imovie 9 when the bugs are finaly fixed!

This is TERRIBLE! I have spent so much time working on this project, and I really don't want to adjust the speed settings to the preset levels, BECAUSE I need to motion of the video to match certain musical points. I can't re-film my video, and I needed this project done TODAY. I made a music video with some kids at summer camp, and today is the last day- the day we were supposed to all watch it together, and now, I've got NOTHING!!!! (Because I can't export it without all those glitches!)
I am MAJORLY DISAPPOINTED on this one. I've made movies in windows movie maker before, and purposely used imovie, because you know, everything on macs is supposed to be better. Well, I guess I was wrong.

  • Quicktime audio sync issues

    Hello,
I have quicktime version 10 (128).   I can't get anything to play in it without there being severe audio sync issues every time.  I can't figure out why.  Can someone please help me fix this problem?
When I export my movies from imovie to quicktime it will play in quicktime, properly and without sync issues, for a really short period of time - seconds.  But after that, the audio no longer matches the video.   I know it's an issue in QT because when I upload the video to YouTube there are no audio sync issues whatsoever.
    Help?
    Thank you so much,
    YahYah

I am dissapointed to see that no one has addressed this issue. I have similar issues.
The MP4's play perfectly in the quicktime player but in Premiere they are off by varying degrees sometimes up to a minute even. I had similar problems in the past with files from the same producer. However last time I was able to  change the extension before importing and then sync them up manually on the timeline. It worked everytime. This time however when I change the extension Premiere brings it in as an audio only file.

  • MP4 Video from Flip Ultra having Audio Sync Issues

All of sudden I've started having audio sync issues with the mp4 footage exported from the The Flip Ultra camera. Ive tryed the mp4 footage in both windows 7 and Mac OS X and i'm having the same audio issue but when I watch in the flip software or in iMovie no issues. Any know why this has just started happening?

  • So frustrating that nobody knows why. Audio Sync issue.

I have an imovie project of old family footage that was ported over from VHS through a sony dcr pc120e mini dv cam straight through to intel imac via firewire. The imovie project is flawless and the sound is perfectly in sync. ive exported to idvd and when finished the audio is out of sync on the final disk. Now i have been reading about this issue and see that people blame idvd8 but it happens when i make a dvd with my imovie project using toast titanium 9 too. Surely if it plays perfectly as an imovie project there must be a way of transferring to dvd without audio sync issues. If anyone knows a solution or piece of software that will remedy this please please let me know as i have wasted about 12 dvds in various experiments.

    mogreen wrote:
camcorder on 16bit, i am using a vhs player attacthed to camera then firewire to imac, ... the imovie project is perfect in everyway. Everything is pal. Yes i did export to QT within IM and this was also out of sync.
thanks for answering some of my Qs ...
there's one thing, I do suspect, which was a 'source' for sync-weirdness for years.. which is the AUDIO connected to some video.
you told us, video is 25fps, and audio is included 16bit (which is good...)
I assume, adding some NON-conform audio could cause trouble... (as a 12bit audio would cause outofsynciness) .. we do know very little about, how iM08 handles audio+video internally, we 'Silverbacks' had long discussions about really weird side effects as a 'zooming' of dvfiles on export etc. I wouldn't be surprised, if adding some non-iTS, non-48kHz-aiff, non-whatever... causes such an effect.
so, please answer my audio Q from above: source, format, bitrate...?
and just for curiosity: how long is your project in total? hh:min:sec?
    ==edit==
pops into mind: in iM vers3, there was some 'bug', concerning PAL wrong audio and NTSC good audio ... wow < scratching bald head > .. try to contact some wiseguy with better memory..

  • Help please... Audio sync issues going from iMovie to iDVD (iLife '09 packa

I've tried technical support, I've tried looking online but nothing seems to have helped, so here's the problem:
I have a video/movie, that is around 58 minutes long, I share it to iDVD and the other media formats from iMovie. The vid has music, transitions, titles, credits, etc... It plays fine in iMovie while I am editing it. The problem comes when I try to export it to another media format and to iDVD.
There's a section that has major audio sync issues that I have no idea how to even begin to fix. There is audio and music from the 55 minute mark that plays over the 27 minute mark for a good 3 minutes of video and audio.
I've tried some of the suggestions I've come across but nothing seems to work. Does anyone have anything that they can offer this very frustrated guy? Please and thank you in advance.

I don't shoot 12 bit audio (ever) so I'm not an expert on fixing it or converting it back to 16 bit audio. I can only report what others on this forum claim to have worked (in some cases with marginal success).
The ones that comes to mind are:
    1. video and audio extraction in an attempt to re sync.
    2. exporting back to the camera from iMovie and then re-importing as 16 bit.

  • Canon cameras have audio sync issue with FCP?

My mini dv deck died on me so,
I am using a small palm size Canon mini dv firewire camera to transfer about 50 tapes.
I am having a weird audio sync issue.
Sometimes the capture footage plays down in sync - I pause>scroll>play - and it's suddenly out of sync. This keeps happening. Sometimes it plays in sync. Other times it does not.
Because it's hit and miss- I'm not sure I can even re-sync.
I imagine it could be the media drive (internal)- but I have other video files on this drive that play fine.
I don't often use firewire capture.
Is audio sync a common firewire issue?
Will the quality suffer if I capture through composite/analog audio outputs?
I can patch it through my
    decklink card.

Audio sync is an issue with Firewire, just not all the time. Usually it is fine, but a lot of Avid people don't like Firewire for this reason.
Most often it is a 5 frame sync issue. Slip your audio 5 frames forward and see if that solves the problem.
As well, take a look in your Browser after you capture a clip and see if the Aud Rate is either 48,000.5 Hz or 47,999 Hz. I have seen the clips come in as both of these. Once you slip the footage, export the audio only, then reimport and attach the audio to the clip in the timeline. Should take care of it.
Post back if these don't work.

  • Playback pauses and audio sync issues with live video stream

I'm seeing playback pauses about every three seconds and audio sync issues with our live demo stream when using the OSMF/Strobe player.  It happens on both our 2Mbps 720p stream and our 480p 750Kbps stream so it does not seem to be related to higher resolution/bandwidth streams.  It also happens if I point directly to a stream asset or if I point to a .f4v with both streams listed for dynamic so it does not seem to be related to dynamic streaming specifically.
The same live streams play back very well without pauses or audio sync issues in the Akamai's dynamic player and even slightly better with JW 5.2.
I have viewed the OSMF/Strobe playback on three different laptops of various age (3 months to 2 years) and two are Windows and one is Linux.  I have also tried the various buffering options on the Flash Media Player Setup and Strobe setup and it has not made a noticeable difference.
To see the stream with the Akamai player, go to:  http://live.kulabyte.com
To see the stream with the OSMF/Strobe player, go to:  http://live.kulabyte.com/osmf
I do not have JW set up for public viewing yet, but the two above show the distinct difference.
We are really hoping to start pointing our customers towards the OSMF player because of the support provided by the community and Adobe, but we have to get the quality of the playback to be acceptable first.
If someone has ideas on debugging I can PM the actual video assets to you.
    Thanks,
    Tim

    Hi Tim,
You need to add this setting:
    dynamicStreamBufferTime=8
The actual value can be higher or lower. The best practice is to use a value that is twice the keyframe distance. Anyway, try different values and see which performs the best for your content.
I know that the setup page does not contain this option and it is not documented in the UserGuide. We simply missed it. Sorry.
Also note that the dynamic buffering algorithms are not being used for dynamic streaming content. I tried to explain this here:
    https://sourceforge.net/adobe/smp/wiki/Dynamic%20Buffering/
Looking forward to your confirmation that this solved your issue.

  • Flv audio sync issues & player 9

Greetings, I've been looking for a solution for weeks, and
thought I'd give the forums a shot.
I have a client site with 6 progressively downloaded flv
clips that play when a button is clicked.
The flv files are encoded with After Effects 6.5, and the swf
files are published in Player 8.
The video clips are made with an alpha channel of a guy
talking and are about 30 sec to 1 minute long each.
The problem is audio sync issues on certain computers during
playback even when the files are completely buffered.
The other problem is that these flv files won't play on
computers that have player 9 loaded.
I'm investigating whether there are audio sync issues when
encoding flv files from AE 6.5, but still really
confused about the player 9 issue. I was wondering if there
are updates to 9 I can recommend to my client
or if adobe knows of any bugs that are currently being looked
    into.
    Thanks,
    Kevin

I may just be talking to myself here, but...
Could there be any difference in the way an flv plays when
    you
import the flv to the stage, as opposed to playing it
    dynamically
using the NetStream class? Could this cause any audio sync
issues? Does Flash Player 9 have any difficulties displaying
    flv files loaded dynamically?
Any ideas from Adobe folks would be great. Thanks.

  • Audio Sync Issue With FLME 3.1 and BMIP Card

Hello Folks....First off..Happy Holidays to all.  Secondly...have Black Magic Intensity Pro Card (PCI-e) installed on i7, 3.33GHZ, 24 Gig Ram, Raid Controller  2x 600GIG Drives, Win7 64bit etc etc.
Noticed today on a live show...we had an audio sync issue of half to full second.  This was being pushed via FLME 3.1 and audio was married to the BMIP audio inputs.
Video input was Component and audio as analog.
Any thoughts why this would happen?
Bandwidth was more than acceptable (pushing 700kbps over a T1)
    Appreciate any insight.

  • Audio Sync issues Premiere CC and AJA T-AP

I need to get the audio sync issues resolved in Premiere. Using CC with an AJA T-tap. I downloaded and installed latest firmware and drivers, and plug-ins. Audio is playing back through Mac Pro line output. When the T-tap is turned off the audio plays in sync with the video on the computer screen. When I turn on T-tap and give it a 200 ms offset, it plays back in sync with my external monitor, but the computer screen is out of sync. If I skip around in the sequence quickly and press the playback, sometimes the monitor is out of sync. I need my audio and video to be in sync on all screens all the time. How do I resolve this issue?
    Thanks, Scott

    Hi team!
    cc: petergaraway
Wondering if anyone has any updates on the Premiere CC v AJA T-Tap situation?
I just bought an AJA to go with our new trash can iMac, which has been beasted out so it shouldn't have any performance issues. I have two thunderbolt displays for the edit and a Samsung LED TV on the wall for client monitoring. There is a 10m HDMI cable running to get to the TV, through walls and ceiling, which I just replaced to a cable with a booster in the middle because I thought that distance might be the first cause of the lag.
I guesstimate we are anywhere between 6-12 frames out at times. Also, the vision seems to be buffering, and thus at times jolts on the screen as it tries to catch up (or back) to the audio.
Audio is coming out through the Headphones jack on the mac to a small Behringer mixer, where I have monitor speakers for the edit and then wall speakers for the client. So I have been keeping the Audio output to the Adobe Desktop Audio. If I select AJA T-Tap it sends the audio straight to the TV, even despite going back into the system settings.
In Preferences > Playback, the AJA settings are to Match Sequence and Minimum Buffer. Playing with the m/s frame offsets doesn't seem to make any progress on the issue. And infact if I push it to 500m/s it only worsens the buffering problem I described above.
I went into the AJA control panel and have made sure everything is set to 1080p25 as our timelines will invariably always be 25fps (Australia).
But right now I am pretty stuck, and think our slight sync issue was better before I introduced the AJA T-Tap to our system, when we ran the HDMI straight out of the back of the Mac. Only problem now is I put the HDMI back there and I don't get a signal to the tv!
Would love any other thoughts or suggestions here.
    Mike.

  • IMovie 6 Audio Sync Issues

I have a Canon HV10 HDV camcorder and I am having issues with my video and audio being out of sync in iMovie. I have not attempted to move the movie to iDVD or QuickTime. My movie is a little over 28 minutes. I have the limit scene length setting set to 2 minutes. I am recording in 16 bit audio - not 12. I have made a few very small movies with this camera without issue. This is the longest movie I have imported so far. I have about 66G of hard drive space prior to import and about 48G after.

    Kurt,
I have been following this thread and although I have a Sony HC-3 I share your pain. I do not have audio sync problems after importing its only when I add transition between clips that I have sync problems.
The long and the short of it is that there seems to be an issue with any and all HD content with iMovie. From what I can find here and on other forums is that the audio sync issues comes in a couple flavors.
    1. Audio sync with 12 bit audio. iMove does not like 12 bit audio stream, find out what kind of audio stream your camera has, many have 12 bit audio to allow for stereo sound with minimal space on the take, 16 bit takes up more and usually is mono sound.
    2. Even 16bit Audio streams have issues with HD content. Not so much when you capture its when you perform any editing that involves the transition of audio where iMovie must manipulate the stream in some way.
Now with that out on the table, what is Apple's position on this?
Items they have had me try:
Clear the Cache's and settings, re-install the program (iMovie), and the last thing they told me was, "Well iMovie is not a professional product and it is not going to be perfect".
My opinion is that they have not or will not attempt to research this issue because they do not feel it is a wide spread issue OR they are working to develop the newer version and hope that resolves the problem.
Lastly I have Final Cut Express HD, and I am here to tell you it does not express the same issues as iMovie although it take a little more effort to produce the same results than it does with iMovie.
I am confident that there will eventually a solution for this an other issues, it just takes time and effort on others to resolve. I am grateful to others here in the forums and I know Apple support keeps their ears to the pavement when it comes to the forums, but lets face it unless many. many people contact the Support department with Apple nothing will get done. It's next to impossible for everyone here to experience the same issues you and I are having, so that is why these forums are so useful. People helping people, keep up the good work everyone and I know I am grateful to any and all help that is given here in the forums by others willing to take the time to share their knowledge and expertise.
    Thank you!

  • Severe audio sync issues with DVR and RAI(Italian) channel.

Having severe audio sync issues with the Motorola QIP6416-2 while
watching RAI(Italian) channel. The audio is about 2 seconds behind
the video. This is the only channel it seems to happen with.
I just switched from Cablevision about a week ago and never had a
sync issue with their DVR with the same RAI channel or any channel.
I've tried changing hdmi cables with no success and I also went to
component video cables but the problem remains. Resetting the
box helps but within 15 minutes the sync issues return. Also,
a channel change and back helps briefly,
The only new piece of equipment in the mix is the Motorola DVR,
nothing else has changed.  The DVR is connected directly to my

    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Mike

Being a foreign channel, there may be something screwy with the framerate (PAL conversion?). I don't personally subscribe to any foreign languages channels and I doubt too many on this forum do either, so you may have trouble finding someone to replicate the problem on their end here.
