Audio sync issues within project, same issues not replicated on FCE

I am having very frustrating issues with PRO. I recently shot footage on a GO PRO HD HERO in 30 and 60 fps, then converted this footage to ProRes 4444, best quality. In my project, the audio appeared in sync, but then eventually drifted out of sync, and would be out of wack in a quicktime export to .MOV. I tried to change sample rates etc based on research on these forums, which did not work. I used QT convert to export to a compressed format, and the audio was fine. I accepted that for what it was, and moved on.
Now I am working on an off the cuff project, and shot footage in 1080x720 on my EVO smartphone. I converted footage from 3gpp to ProRes444. I bring in one of the clips, regardless of which one, and the footage is out of sync when previewing in FCP. It does this on both the 3gpp and prores formats.
After this, I close FCP and open FCE, and this issue does not happen whatsoever. I have un installed FCE and FCP and reinstalled FCP, issue still present. PLEASE HELP! CPU SPECS:
21.5 iMAC-3.2ghz i3 with 4gb ram and 512/mb video card. I am a beginner user, and am in desperate need of some assistance, thanks in advance

Ok, so now FCE is also out of sync, and I converted these files to intermediate codec with mpeg streamclip. I just can't figure out how to solve this issue. When I load up a clip of footage, say in .mov format, it plays just fine.

  • Audio Sync Problems With Share YouTube -- OSX not iOS

I've replicated this several times. It's maddening and bizarre. *Share YouTube*
Exporting a FCPX video using the "SHARE" menu and choosing YouTube causes the resulting upload to be out of sync when viewed in Safari or other browsers on iOS
Viewing the same video on the iPad with the built in YouTube app, the video plays in sync
Viewing the same video on AppleTV 2 (with the 5.1 update), the video plays in sync.
If I export using Export Media menu item under the SHARE menu, and then from QuickTime Player choose Export For Web (under the File menu) and manually upload, the video is in sync.

Anyone else experience this. Is this a bug or a feature? Rather not go through three steps to upload a simple YouTube video.

We've got the same problem and yep, it's infuriating that are so few posts about it.
It doesn't happen with every video, but the vast majority of files that we've tried to either export directly to YouTube from QTX or export locally and then manually upload to YouTube end up with shockingly bad audio sync (and also some colour issues, but that's another story).
As a small video production company we were chuffed to bits with the improved export speed in QTX and quick to make use of it. But when we realised there was a problem, we had to revert back to using QT7's painfully slow export.
We've run experiments on a brand new iMac and MacBook Pro running the most up-to-date version of OS X and still no joy. Always the same audio sync problems with the same video files.
In the meantime however,  we've found that the settings advised on this YouTube help page have given us the best (albeit slow) results at both 25fps and 30fps when exporting from QT7:

  • The whole audio sync/weird sample rate/drift issue (FCP6)

I can tell this question is doomed to fail on account of viewing the other unanswered questions on the subject in the forums, but I'll try nonetheless!
So yeah, importing longer DV clips....audio rate winds up being 'weird' (as in 48003.9kHz instead of 48). Any way of straightening that out that doesn't require a buncha hoops? I've already tried re-exporting it from QT at 48kHz and a few other things. Do I just have to capture in separate chunks instead of one big go?
I found a doc that says, "In previous versions of Final Cut Pro, the "Sync Adjust Movies Over [n] Minutes" option could be enabled in the preferences, triggering an adjustment in the audio sample rate based on the amount of audio recorded to disk during capture. In Final Cut Pro 4 [and up, I'm guessing] this preference has been replaced by automatic audio rate analysis, specific to DV media..."
Apparently this rate analysis ain't working as well as it should...or something...
    Anyone?
    Thanks,
    E

If your footage was shot with the Panasonic dvx100 camera, there is a known audio sync issue. You can install a patch from disc 1 of the FCP install discs inside of the "extras" folder. I've had this problem from time to time and I capture DVCPRO 50, so it's not just a mini DV issue. I usually get an audio rate slightly below 48, like 47.89999 or so. Are you using capture now? I used to get this problem a lot more when using capture now as opposed to log and capture. My solution has always been to always use log and capture and keep clips 15 minutes or shorter. I've tried trashing prefs and all that jazz, swapping out hard drives, but log and capture and shorter clip lengths always seem to clear it up.

  • Adjust audio on multiple clips at same time (not in same timeline)

I have 341 individual audio clips in a bin (individual sequences) and I need to raise the dB on all of them (probably +3 or +5). I have 3 languages to do this in for a total of almost 1000 individual sequences. I'd prefer not to have to set each one manually. It's easy enough to open all timelines by selecting all, but then I have to manually adjust each sequence by selecting it then using keystrokes to up +3 or +1, then close the sequence.
I can't use Sound Convert because I need to retain the .ima4 encoding on the audio files. Sound Convert can do a batch audio gain change - but I can't find a way to do it in Final Cut Pro. Any suggestions? Have tried Automater too - but that's tedious.
    Thank you all!

How were these clips of yours created that they were too low to be audible? How were your sequences created without using the VU meter or with no regard for the presentation requirements? The question you need to answer is quite simple:
Do you recapture them all properly and replace the media or do you slog through the effort required to correct the mistakes you and your team made?
The effort required to build a hack often surpasses the effort to start from scratch. But I hope you get a decent suggestion for a script.

Wow. Thanks for this helpful post. Must be great to never work on a project where requirements change or Apple changes specs in the 3.0 SDK that weren't there in the 2.2.1 SDK. Lucky you work on all those straight-forward and easy projects. Gosh...must be nice.

  • Help: FCE 2.0.3 project files will not open in FCE 4.0

I have been using FCE 2.0.3 on a PowerBook G4 and PowerPC G5 to annotate a number of movie files with markers. I recently bought a new MacBook Pro with Intel and the new FCE 4.0. The new FCE launches when I double click on a FCE 2.0.3 project file, but then I get the following message:
This project is unreadable or may be too new for this version of Final Cut.
I really NEED to be able to open these older project files with all of the markers and sequences intact. Can anyone help???

    Hello Tom,
Thank you so much for your help. I spent about 2 hours on the phone with a very dedicated
Video Tech support person from Apple, and, unfortunately, we did not manage to solve the
problem. He also had me email a project file to him, which he was able to open. He then saved it as a FCE 4.0 project file and emailed it back to me. However, I was still unable to open it (I got the same message as with the original).
Here's what I think the problem may be: I moved all my FCE 2.0 project files and media
from my PowerBook G4 to my new MacBook Pro using Apple's Migration Assistant BEFORE I
installed FCE 4.0 on my new MacBook Pro (no version of FCE was installed on it
beforehand). So, I think that the problem may have something to do with the fact that the
Final Cut Express Documents folder existed already on my laptop when I installed the
    program.
The reason that I think this is that this morning I installed FCE 4.0 on my Mac Mini (with Intel and running Leopard OS 10.5.1) BEFORE I transferred one of the FCE 2.0 project files and associated media to it. I was ABLE to open the project file -- I received the message "The file format of this project is from an earlier version. Would you like to update this project file?" I went ahead and updated the file, and, then I was able to open it without any problem.
So, my current plan is to delete FCE 4.0 from my MacBook Pro as well as the Final Cut
Express Documents folder that contains all of my FCE 2.0 project files. Then I will
reinstall FCE 4.0 and, after that, I will copy the FCE 2.0 project files to the Final Cut
Express Documents folder that is created.
I will let you know if this is successful.
Thank you (and Peter) for your help!

  • Limit PO price changes are not replicated to ECC backend

    Hi all,
    SRM 5.0 ECS SP13.
When I change the value(increase/decrease) in limt PO which is already created(PO is changed for first time) and order the PO,under Overview screen.,the PO total value(at header level) shows the correct changed /new value while at the Item level, the Net price is shown as the old value! However when I go and check the item details, the  field "VALUE" and "EXPECTED VALUE" have the changed/new value.
Because of the above issue, the PO changes are not replicated to ECC backend system. When I tested the BAPI BAPI_PO_CHANGE1 with the test data, there is no error mesasge in ECC backend system.
After this, when I change the PO for second time(again value increase/descrease),the total value and net price is shown correctly in SRM and changes are also replicated to ECC backend system!
I have also checked the cong for SPOOLPARAMETERS under Set Control Parameters and eveything is set correctly as shown below

Can someone throw some pointers how to resolve the above issue.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi
can you recreate the same issue
    are you saying that
    1. create a limit po for 100 USD and replicated to ECC AS 100 USD total value.
2 . now update the PO in SRM 150 USD and it was not replicated to ECC ?
    or
    1. limit sc
    2. Limit PO
    3. update not reached ECC.

No, you're not alone. Same behavior here since upgrading my 3g to OS4:
Every time I turn on the check mark at the check box for "Sync notes with Outlook" and choosing "Use" the check mark disappears so the following sync process is working without notes syncronisation.
I tried several things without results. Are there any ideas in the meantime?

  • CS4 Audio Sync Issues After Render in Media Encoder

I'm editing a 6-part online promotional video right now using Adobe Premiere Pro CS4, using MPEG footage (MTS) imported from a Panasonic AG-HMC40 AVCCAM HD. Upon rendering each video to a Quicktime mov in Adobe Media Encoder, there's always at least one instance in each video where the audio is out of sync or there is a 1 to 2 second jitter in the video. Otherwise, the final product looks flawless. When viewed in the timeline, the video/audio mesh perfectly (although, if I keep re-playing the problem clips in the timeline, I can occassionally see some jitters). The same issues occur when rendering to H.264 Youtube Widescreen HD.
    Anyone have any suggestions?
    File Info:
    Type: MPEG Movie
    Image Size: 1280 x 720
    Pixel Depth: 32
    Frame Rate: 23.976
Source Audio Format: 48000 Hz - compressed - Stereo
Project Audio Format: 48000 Hz - 32 bit floating point - Stereo
Average Data Rate: 2.1 MB / second
    Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1.0

No, there is no blacklisting here. Now, some might be a tad confused by "Render" in the title, but I'd expect them to read, and understand. I just pointed that out, to avoid confusion down the thread. I expected to read of a Render messing up the sync, but it became very clear exactly where your issue was occurring.
I wish that I had more to add, than a question on the H.264 CODEC, but have not encountered this myself. I'm only relying on what seems to have worked for others, and might not have any bearing on your issue.
    Good luck,

  • Audio Sync Issue When Exporting to Quicktime

Currently using Premiere Pro CS3 3.2 and Quicktime 7.5.5
When I export to a quicktime .mov, my audio is a few frames out of sync. I've tried downgrading to older versions of quicktime with no success. Everything is completely in sync inside Premiere. If I import my rendered out-of-sync .mov back into Premiere, it magically syncs up fine again. It's the weirdest thing.
    Help!

    Scott:
    There is a workaround.
I never really found a solid cause/solution, but if you're noticing that you have a couple of white frames at the end of your Quicktime exports, then you're probably suffering the same problem I have. Tech people I have checked with have suggested that the problem may be related to the use of .mp3 sound files (as opposed to .wav) in the Premiere project, but after removing them and replacing them with .wav's the problem persisted.
I am not technical enough to figure out exactly what's causing the problem, but I think it must have something to do with the Adobe Media Encoder (at least how it works on my computer). From what I've read on the subject, the Media Encoder is Premiere's Achilles's Heel.
Changing versions of Quicktime did nothing. Others trying to solve this problem have tried exporting their files with every conceivable variation of options and settings in the Adobe Media Encoder with no positive result.
I'm not the only one with this issue, but searches of the Internet show it to be relatively rare, so it's probably some weird glitch somewhere deep in my system. It's not widely-reported enough for anyone to care about addressing this bug. Of the few people that I've found suffering from this anomaly, none have found a fix.
But the good news is that I have found a workaround that accomplishes getting a quicktime file out properly that does work for me. I avoid the Adobe Media Encoder completely.
Step 1: Go to File > Export > Movie, and under Settings > General choose QuickTime, under Video > Compressor choose H.264, then Uncompressed Audio. I have not experimented with other settings, but believe that most of them will do just fine.
If you examine the quicktime file you've just exported, you'll see it works just swell; i.e. no white frames at the end of the movie and the sound syncs up perfectly. Okay, sounds great---but there's no way to limit the data rate using this method, which means we're stuck with a ridiculously large file.
The solution is to load the Quicktime file that you've just exported into Quicktime Pro, and now export it using data rate compression / sound compression options to suit your tastes. Bingo!
The other workaround that I have heard from some is to export your movie (again, avoiding the Adobe Media Encoder, instead using File > Export > Movie) as an Uncompressed AVI, and then compress with QT pro as before. This method didn't work for me, something about not having the proper codec on my system to read the AVI file that was exported, which makes absolutely zero sense but I couldn't find the right codec anywhere, even after identifying it with some super-duper codec identification utility. Go figure!
So, you'll have to get QT Pro ($30 I think) to use this workaround, but it does work, and that's what counts. I have no idea if there's a QT Pro clone or similar program available out there. Compression/decompression and all that jazz is way beyond me and I'm just happy to be able to get my file finally out there in working condition.
The only other bit of information I might share with you is that I tried searching the Internet at great length to try and solve this issue, but on the rare occasion I did find someone suffering this problem they were as confounded and frustrated as I was, and no one had a real solution. I continued to search with different search terms and tripped over the clues to this solution when searching for "white frame problem" in relation to Premiere. I even believe that if you search the Abobe forums you may find some posts about it, so if you're inclined to learn more about it, I suggest concentrating your searches with terms that refer to the white frame problem/issue, instead of the terms I used for so long, such as "Premiere Audio Sync Quicktime" and the endless permutations thereof.
But I'll bet this workaround works for you. Let me know, and if you'd like me to try it on one of your exports on my computer I'd be happy to give it a go.
I have often wondered if upgrading to CS4 would solve this problem. Are you using CS3 like me? If I could be sure CS4 made this issue vanish I would jump on it, but there just isn't enough information out there to know for sure. I'm inclined to think not.
Please do let me know if this solution works for you, or if you dig up any new information.
    Thanks!

  • Audio sync issue

We're working on an animated series. We do a DVpro output of the locked show, send it out for the mix and get back a wav file of the mix. When we import this into FCP we have issues. We sync it up with our original voice track and for the first part of the show it's in sync but starts to drift quite quickly and by the end we're out by several frames (creating a very noticeable echo). Our sequence settings match the audio properties of the file (16bit, 48khz stereo). The only thing I saw that made me suspicious at all, that I can't seem to change, is that our sequences have, in the aud format column in the project window, the setting "32-bit floating point". But nowhere does it seem possbile to change this. Is this the problem or is something else going on? We know that the mix wav file is okay because when I bring it into the Avid (that we're using as an offline suite) it syncs to the show there, just not in FCP). The sequence length in both the Avid and the FCP are the same and the same voice track syncs in both, just not the final mix. Anybody had the same or similar experience?

We did see this pop up last week. Same thing... WAV file. Started to go out of sync noticable at about 5 minutes.
    WAV file...
    Hmmm
Was the Avid machine PC based?
We don't have an answer... but maybe the more clues...
I'll look into the 32-bit floatie thingie.

  • Video/Audio Sync Issues

I've uplaoded 2 different sets of media files in my project.  The videos work independently.  The audio and video are attached and have not been seperated.  One set of files are experiecning audio glitches.  I've then brought both sets of files into Movavi, and the opposite files are experiencing glitches.  Is my goal impossible?  What's a plausible solution?

After checking the OOS, it's not out of sync, it's glitching.  His  "mac" files are glitching in Premiere, my mpg1s are glitching in  Movavi.  Meanwhile NONE of the files are glitching in Windows Movie Maker.  These glitches are consistent but in random locations, and no not locations I had razored.  Once the "MAC files" are loaded into Premiere they have glitches, before I begin editing.
I'm on my personal PC which is only 5 months old.  In the past I've dealt with glitches too on older computers and different editing softwar, (nero 7, roxio vhs to dvd, now premiere) and as I said I've also tested this out on my laptop and have dealt with the exact same glitches.  Premeire is encodign these glitches durign import.
I just looked in the forums for this more defined issue and it is exactly like this unasnwered forum:  http://forums.adobe.com/message/1702092#1702092
"While playing it seems to jump a few frames ahead every so often  before it's actually supposed to and then will teleport back. This is  before exporting or anything. Just going from import to viewing the  imported clip in Premiere. "
Sorry I quoted myself and there is no undo:
While waiting for a response I've begun extratcing audio of files and adding it as "music" to Windows Movie Maker so i can have some semblance of a finished product, ebcause somethign is better than nothing.  I'm still 2 seconds from going to going to Staples and getting Roxio Creator 2010.
I went to GSPOT and found that the original MOV files "couldn't find codecs", but when I converted those files a while back, they had codecs.
    "CONTAINER: MPEG-2 Program Stream << { 1 vid, 1 aud }, MPG2 with an audio container of  MPEG-1 Layer 2."
Now for my files, they are MPEG-1 with an audio container of  MPEG-1 Layer 2.  Now I have also converted those files to match the MPG2 format.
Based on this GSPOT app, I found that the MPG1 file was 100% pink in the "relative composition of the file by frame type" bar and the MPG2 and converted MOVs to MPG2s was 6% pink 94% purple.  I don't know if this means anything?

  • Playback pauses and audio sync issues with live video stream

I'm seeing playback pauses about every three seconds and audio sync issues with our live demo stream when using the OSMF/Strobe player.  It happens on both our 2Mbps 720p stream and our 480p 750Kbps stream so it does not seem to be related to higher resolution/bandwidth streams.  It also happens if I point directly to a stream asset or if I point to a .f4v with both streams listed for dynamic so it does not seem to be related to dynamic streaming specifically.
The same live streams play back very well without pauses or audio sync issues in the Akamai's dynamic player and even slightly better with JW 5.2.
I have viewed the OSMF/Strobe playback on three different laptops of various age (3 months to 2 years) and two are Windows and one is Linux.  I have also tried the various buffering options on the Flash Media Player Setup and Strobe setup and it has not made a noticeable difference.
To see the stream with the Akamai player, go to:  http://live.kulabyte.com
To see the stream with the OSMF/Strobe player, go to:  http://live.kulabyte.com/osmf
I do not have JW set up for public viewing yet, but the two above show the distinct difference.
We are really hoping to start pointing our customers towards the OSMF player because of the support provided by the community and Adobe, but we have to get the quality of the playback to be acceptable first.
If someone has ideas on debugging I can PM the actual video assets to you.
    Thanks,
    Tim

    Hi Tim,
You need to add this setting:
    dynamicStreamBufferTime=8
The actual value can be higher or lower. The best practice is to use a value that is twice the keyframe distance. Anyway, try different values and see which performs the best for your content.
I know that the setup page does not contain this option and it is not documented in the UserGuide. We simply missed it. Sorry.
Also note that the dynamic buffering algorithms are not being used for dynamic streaming content. I tried to explain this here:
    https://sourceforge.net/adobe/smp/wiki/Dynamic%20Buffering/
Looking forward to your confirmation that this solved your issue.
