Audio Sync Problem after transitions/filters applied to timeline in FCP

I have Final Cut Pro 5.1.2 on a MAC Pro. I installed 2 Maxtor SATA II 200gig drives and created a striped RAID. I want to be clear about audio sync issues. I have my easy setup/properties....all those settings set to DV NTSC and I am monitoring out from my DV Deck via firewire, not the audio from the computer.
After capturing the clip(s) I assemble them onto the timeline, add a few transitions or filters. The audio shifts off a lot. More everytime I add or do more with the clip. After rendering more, the audio shifts more. All scratch disks, rendered clips points to the Video Drive (striped RAID) I've setup. I'm not new to video editing but new to a MAC. Yes, I am a PC guy. I work with Premiere Pro 1.5. I am pleased so far making the switch, just need to fix this audio issue.
All properties of the audio clip are correct, DV NTSC properties - 48K etc. This particular capture I made with 2 channel mono clips instead of a single DV stereo stream, simply because I have a split audio on the production tape and would like to take advantage of working with two seperate mono audio files. When I trim, I make sure the audio stays with the video but it appears that when I do trim, add a transition or filter, that's when the audio goes out of sync. No indication with a ("- #")on the icon. The clips which I captured are less than a minute long. Used for testing in these new learning stages.
Questions:
1. I created a striped RAID with the 2 Maxtor drives, I used MAC OS Extended (Journaled) with 256k Raid Block size. Is this correct?
2. Would the audio captured in 2 channel mono affect the sync? (assuming you don't shift it manually on the timeline)
3. What other MAC settings should I do to the system that will result in better preformances?
4. What settings should I set in FCP for better performance results?
MAC Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   FCP Studio
MAC Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   FCP Studio

  • Audio sync problem after scrubbing

I'm trying to piece together some clips from a TV series called Legend of the Seeker. I'm using Premiere CS4 4.0.1, Vista Ultimate 64-bit.
Placing the hour-long video in the Source Editor allows me to play the video fine from beginning to end, but if I start scrubbing through the file, the audio unsyncs itself immediately.
Here's a screenshot of the video in GSpot:
    http://img14.imageshack.us/my.php?image=premieresync.jpg
Setting IN and OUT points and then dragging a very small clip into the timeline has the same result.
Any ideas would be very appreciated.

You are actually pretty lucky to just have Audio sync problems, though I do not know why scrubbing would make any difference. With both Xvid and DivX one more often gets no Audio, or no Video.
Agree 100% on the 3rd party conversion, prior to Import into PrPro.

  • IDVD audio sync problems after Lion upgrade

    Hi all,
I posted this in the Lion discussion, but thought I might have a go here as well. I'm having problems with iDVD and audio sync as follows...
I often download files from my Beyonwiz PVR, convert them to mpeg and DV files using MPEG Streamclip (with Quicktime MPEG playback component), then burn a disc with iDVD. Since upgrading to Lion, I notice that the audio in these files, and the burnt DVD in particular, can be slightly out-of-sync with the video. Although the effect is slight, I find it very unacceptable - its like trying to watch something that been badly dubbed. I find it to be a very jarring effect to watch voices and intonation out of sync with the picture.
I'm not sure where the problem lies - is it Quicktime, MPEG Streamclip, and/or iDVD ? I never had this problem at all with Snow Leopard.
    Fox

I've discovered that the problem appears to be the conversion of the mpeg file to the DV file. The video/audio goes slightly out of sync using MPEG Streamclip under Mac OS Lion. I never had any problem with Snow Leopard. I'll have to try different conversion methods and see what happens...

  • Audio sync problems after export

I've been having this problem occasionally ever since starting to use Premiere Pro CS6, and it's now also happening again in the latest version of CC (just updated to 7.2.2 on W7, 64bit):
A perfectly synced sequence that plays fine in its rendered preview loses sync with its audio (or the audio with the video) after exporting to mp4. (preset H.264 format). I have tried trouble shooting by deleting all render files, restarted application and computer, played with different media players... to no avail.
Admittedly the raw footage happens to be a wmv file. Which I know is not ideal. But what bugs me is that everything is perfectly in sync up to the point of creating the export file. That makes no sense. I'm about to counteract this shift now by separating the audio from the video and making up the frame difference manually, but it feels wrong to do that and is a silly hack to something the software shouldn't mess up in the first place.
    Any ideas?

Holy cow, that was easy. You were right, that worked. Doooh.
    Thanks.

  • Audio sync problem after saving to QuickTime file

Hi there, I'm relatively new to Adobe Premiere - I'm not quite knowledgeable enough about video editing to really use it to its full potential but needed something more flexible than Windows Movie Maker.  I haven't had any problems before editing smaller files, but am having tons of trouble with a 2.7 gig file.
I'm trying to take a 2.7GB .MOV file recorded on a Kodak Zi6 and divide it into three roughly equal parts to use an email sharing service that has a maximum file size of 1GB (I know that there are sites that will allow 3GB files and I wish I could use them, or use an FTP server, but the person who needs the video needs it to be sent over his own company's file sharing system).  It was recorded on an 8GB SD card, that SD card was put into my computer, and I then transfered it over to Premiere Elements 8.
I rendered the entire file first (it wouldn't even play until I did that) and after rendering, the audio and video were good and everything was synced up.  I then split the clip into three and saved each as a separate project.  Then I opened one up again and tried to save as a Quicktime file (that's what the person I'm sending it to requested).  All seemed to go well, and for the first minute or so of the 15 minute clip everything is great.  Then after that, the audio gets more and more out of sync as the video plays on.  I tried playing it on several different players, same thing.
My computer (a Cyberpower PC) is running an Intel Core i7 CPU, 870 @ 2.93GHz 3.06 GHz; 8 GB of RAM; NVIDIA GeForce GTX 285; Windows 7 Home Premium.  I'm not sure where to get the rest of the information requested in the "How to best ask for help" post but if you can give me some guidance I'll find it.
The presets are on the defaults because I wasn't aware of them until I came to this forum.  Happy to try the whole process again if someone can tell me what the presets should be changed to.
I'm looking for a solution to this particular problem, but am also looking for some basic help about files.  The files that I used most often usually come from a Kodak Zi6 (.MOV) or a Flip Mino HD (MPEG4 I think; had to convert those to something else to use them in Premiere at all).  I have AVS Video Converter 6, so I can convert those files to pretty much anything.  I'm wondering what I should convert files to before trying to edit them in Premiere, and how best to save them.  I rarely use the files anywhere but online if that helps (this particular 2.7GB file being a big exception) at a maximum width of 550 pixels, so I don't think I need the quality to be all that great; it's more important to me to be able to work a bit quicker, without rendering that takes hours.
I'd also love to take advantage someday of some of the more advanced features of Premiere, so I was wondering if anyone knows of any tutorials that will walk me through things in a linear way (as in, start from the beginning and teach me what I need to learn before moving on to something more complicated).
Thanks so much for your help, and please speak slowly; I'm in over my head!

Very well-done post, and welcome to the forum.
First, many have issues with OOS (Out Of Sync) with QT files on Export/Share. This is not just with PrE, but PrPro also. Unfortunately, OOS is pretty easy to fix, when you encounter it on the Timeline, but almost impossible to fix when it creeps in during Export. As an aside, I fought some MPEG Audio from a client, that was perfect in the Timeline, but when Exported to MPEG-2 for DVD-Video, ALWAYS went OOS dynamically, and even adjusting for that on the Timeline (rather guessing how much OOS the other direction I needed,) just flat would not do it. Sync would be fine for awhile, and then suddenly start going out, before miraculously returning to sync with the next Clip. Never could get that one correct.
In your MOV Export/Share, I am not certain which CODEC you chose. Was it H.264?
Within the MOV "wrapper," did your recipient give you any options for the enclosed CODEC's, or is the wrapper and the file size the determining factors?
Wish that I had more to offer directly, rather than questions.
As for the tutorials, I strongly recommend Steve Grisetti's Learning Series, his Boot Camp and his many articles and general PrE tutorials on Muvipix. He also has several books, available there too.
    Good luck,

  • Audio Sync problem after exporting

    App : Imovie
    Device : Ipad 2
    iOS : 4.3.3
    Rushes : MP4 from a FLIP camera
    Audio track : m4a
The project is around 9 minutes. Sync ok in Imovie. After exporting, the sync is ok in the beginning but loosing it more and more as the movie goes.......i tried all the options on exporting, nothing changes. This is getting me mad......Any solutions ?

I am assuming this is because the way the flip camera embeds the audio.
The problem with editing non-iframe video is that it does not have all seperate frames.
And so the audio is sync in blocks to video.
I assume that the reason iMovie iOS is stated as only supporting video shot on an iOS device is that this video has a "standard" way to sync audio.
There are many different ways to encode mp4s.
Editing a non-Apple iOS standard video may give you these problems.
So the only real solution I can give is to convert all your video to the same standard as the iPad shoots.
You should tell Apple here, and ask for a fix:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/imovie_iOS.html
And also email other editing app creators and ask them to port to the iPad.
Then you will have more options to edit then just iMovie iOS.

  • Major "BUG" in Imovie 9 - Audio Sync Problem on Export  !

Well I'm a hard-core Apple user from day one, but unfortunately today I'm not to proud about the latest version of Imovie 9.
It seems there has been a "MAJOR audio sync problem on export" in Imovie 9, since July 2009. Apple knows about this bug for a long time now, but didn't release any bugfix yet!
    Here's what it's all about:
It seems if you use the (custom /manual) speed-adjustments and not the preset slider speeds, you will experience (after exporting your movie) annoying bursts of audio from clips that had been set to mude. The strange thing is that you will only experience this audio-bug after exporting, you will NOT experience it in the project playback mode!
    Here's what you can do:
Find ALL the clips in your Project that are Speed Adjusted.
Instead of using a "Custom Speed" percentage, use any of the "Preset Speeds"
    Preset Speeds on the Slider = 12.5%, 25%, 50%, 100%, 200%, 400%, 800%
Then, export your project as usual.
    No more sync issues.
Really hope That Apple will come up with a real BUGFIX soon.
It's a shame that a major bug in a otherwise GREAT PRODUCT, hasen't been fixed yet!
What's wrong with Apple?...this is not one of their finest hours.
Still A BIG fan from Imovie HD,...I'll chance to Imovie 9 when the bugs are finaly fixed!

This is TERRIBLE! I have spent so much time working on this project, and I really don't want to adjust the speed settings to the preset levels, BECAUSE I need to motion of the video to match certain musical points. I can't re-film my video, and I needed this project done TODAY. I made a music video with some kids at summer camp, and today is the last day- the day we were supposed to all watch it together, and now, I've got NOTHING!!!! (Because I can't export it without all those glitches!)
I am MAJORLY DISAPPOINTED on this one. I've made movies in windows movie maker before, and purposely used imovie, because you know, everything on macs is supposed to be better. Well, I guess I was wrong.

  • Audio sync prob after capturing for 10 minutes or so

I have an audio sync problem when I import into Final Cut Express. Everything is fine but lets say around 15 minutes or so there is a slight sync problem.
What I have been doing is I import into IMovie because I have it setup to cut the clips after 10 minutes. This is great because I can let it run..and it automatically splits the clips up without any dropped frames at all. The problem is I then have to drag those clips..one by one into my external harddrive. That takes time and then I have to render the audio in Final Cut Express.
I do like though that the clips are a little over 2gigs..which is good for transfering between drives and backing it up onto a DVD.
Is there a way you can do what I do in iMovie...it automatically starts a new clip after ten minutes or whatever...this way I don't have to transfer and render.

FCE does not break up clips on capture. You can capture in 10 minute chunks if you want.
The audio sync problem can be caused by a number of things most common of which is using the wrong settings for your capture, where your settings audio sample rate doesn't match your media.

  • CS4 audio sync problems

    Hi all,
sorry if this question is old hat - I've searched the forums and can't seem to get a clear answer (most refer to CS3 and before) so thought I'd ask anew.
My preview in Premiere CS4 is fine, as is the preview in Encore CS4. The video was captured from four tapes (HD as mpeg and SD as Matrox AVI) in Premiere. The final DVD (10 minutes) consists of 21 clips. All but one are OK - this one has the voices well out of sync with the video, even though other clips taken from the same tape are fine.
I also had a major problem recently with an MP4 from youtube, which I guess is the same issue - everything else was fine, but this one clip was well out.
I'm guessing by now this is an old problem. What's the solution, please?
    Thanks
    Paul.

    Newbie to Adobe here ...
Okay,  so after spending over 14 hours trying to fix the audio sync problem I fixed mine. After editing my project I selected Sequence > Sequence Settings > Playback Settings > under Realtime Playback make sure the "Desktop Video Display During Playback" box is selected. Next, in "External Device" change the setting from "None" to your next option. Mine reads DV: 29.97 720 X 480i. Next, Under "Export" section in that same window select the in "External Device" select the DV option again. Also, you might want to "Disable video output when in background" ...select that box at the bottom of the screen.
Now, try recording the video to the tape ....my audio now sync's as normal. I hope it works for you.\
One more thing ... you can keep the "Desktop Audio" button selected.

  • Audio sync problem with videos imported from iPod Touch

I have an iPod Touch 4th Generation that I used to shoot video at a family birthday party. When I imported the footage into iMovie '11, the audio is not in sync with the video (video is about two seconds behind audio) and there is only the left channel of audio. I verified that the video on the iPod plays just fine--no audio sync problem, both left and right channels work. I just upgraded to iOS 5 on the iPod Touch. The iMac is running Snow Leopard 10.6.8.
As a workaround, I can import the video into iPhoto instead. When I play the video in iPhoto, there are no audio sync problems and both channels of audio can be heard. I have imported other iPod Touch videos successfully into iMovie '11 in the past few months, but this has been the first time these problems have occurred. Any help would be appreciated.

Premiere cannot handle clips with variable framerate.
Your converted clips need to have constant framerate.
Otherwise use a converter like Handbrake.

  • Premiere CS4 - Audio sync problems, Encoding Problems

    Hi,
I've been using Premiere CS3 for encoding 20-25 minute videos to deploy on a Flash Media Streaming server.
Today I upgraded to CS4 and everything that I render to FLV/FV4, H264 or Quicktime format has serious audio sync problems when I use AAC as the audio codec. Unfortunately for me, AAC is the codec that I need to use for the streaming server. The audio is synchronized to begin with, but it gets progressively unsynched as the video progresses.
Has anyone else had this problem? I'm using bitrates of 256 kbps, 512kbps for the video and 24 kbps / 32 kbps for the audio.
Another thing that I've noticed is that many of the options that I used when encoding videos are no longer available!! For instance, I cannot generate hinting tracks for Quicktime, and most of the audio frequencies are gone for Quicktime as well.
    What a disappointment:(
    -Chris

Seems to be an on going issue with no response from Adobe.  Have the same issue with the audio running ahead of the video.  (Cool if this was an old Japanese monster video).
Running CS4 PP & AME all updates are current.  Nvida Quardro CX (current drivers 4.20.006) used several formats (Elemental h.264 to MPEG-2) same issue.

  • Audio sync problem downloading VHS-C

I've downloaded a straight VHS tape (with no audio sync problems) into final cut pro once I had changed the Camera setting to 32Khz and the capture and sequeence presets to 32khz as well (it was all aout of sync when the settings were 48Khz).
The problem now, which is driving me MAD, is I have 13 hours of VHS-C tapes, which I have put into a VHS cassette converter to download and the audio is out of sync. The capture presets are the same as above (i.e. 32KHZ) . Why is this? I downloaded them initially at 48Khz (settings on the camera 48Khz and FCP at 48Khz in capture and sequence settings), but this was also out of sync.
Why is it different from one VHS tape to a VHS-C tape?
I hope there is a God out there that can help with this one?
    Thanks!

    Eagleray:
    I capture through a ADVC-100.
I use to find the same problem playing VHS tapes with a standard VHS player from time to time and never solved it. The out of sync audio appears when capturing some specific tapes from specific sources:
    - All my home tapes recorded in my old VHS recorder shows a audio problem; not specifically out of sync, but some audio "cracks" from time to time, like an electronic noise. No way to find a capture setings that works.
    - Some customers VHS tapes that showed the out of sync (no noises) and again, no combination of digitalizer settings made it works. Had to resync the audio editing and stretching in an external audio editor or cutting shorts parts and syncing them with video. The our of sync appears in small captured portions, like 10 min or so.
    - Never found a sync or audio problem capturing from VHC-C (the small VHS tapes) playing them with the tape adapter in the player.
I google long hours about this problems and all that I learned is that some old VHS recorders had not a "synchro" signal in the tape.
As I told you, I don't use any pro VHS deck, just my consumer "state of the art" VHS home recorder.
I hope there is a God out there that can help with this one?

  • Audio sync problem - simultaneous HDMI and analog output

I'm currently running my audio out through my Geforce 460 via HDMI to my A/V receiver. I have a simultaneous stereo analog output running through my ASUS Xonar D2, using Pulseaudio & Amarok as the player (VLC-gstreamer backend).
I use the HDMI and A/V receiver to power my main stereo in my living room, but on occasion when I want music around the house, I use the analog line out to send audio to an FM transmitter.
The problem is, I'm running into audio sync problems. The audio starts out synchronised (at least to the naked ear) but within 20-30 seconds it is noticeably out of sync, with the analog audio (form my FM radio) running around a half second ahead of the HDMI output (my main speakers).
So - where to begin finding where the sync problem is? The receiver? Conversions between 44Khz and 48Khz?
Any help much appreciated - google-foo hasn't turned up anything obvious so far.

Yeah - that was my thought - a very difficult, and probably insoluble problem as it stands. I can't just mute one of the devices as that would defeat the purpose of having multi-room music! Fortunately it's not too noticeable usually, as you can't usually hear the main stereo and the FM radios at the same time, unless you're standing in the right part of the house
The analog splitter cable not really a goer, since running clean, crisp multi-channel HDMI with pass through when needed is the essential goal of the HTPC. So unless I was to switch inputs and or unplug cables...
What I will end out doing, in the absence of a software solution, is hooking the FM transmitter directly to my receiver. I was going to just use the headphone-out jack of the receiver to feed audio to the FM transmitter, but the stoopid receiver can't output audio to external speakers at the same time as the headphone is plugged. To overcome this, I'll probably run a headphone amp off the receiver's RCA outputs, into the FM transmitter. Like this one: http://headamp.com/portable_amps/ae2/, or this one: http://www.amazon.com/Rolls-HA43-Headph … B00102ZOQC
