Audio synch issues in QT

My project displays fine in PE8. No audio synch issues in the preview. After outputting the project to a quicktime movie withe LAN setting the audio becomes seems to run faster than the video, becoming more and more out of synch as the movie plays. Any ideas what might cause such an issue?

The Stream info in MPEG streamclip for files from both cameras gives me this info:
Bitrate: 30.31 Mpbs
Video Tracks:
DV/DVCPRO - NTSC, 720x480, 16:9, 29.9699999999999 fps, 28.77 Mbps
Audio Tracks:
16-Bit Little Endian mono, 48 khz, 768 kbps
I don't know if this helps.

  • 12 bit audio synch issues

Hey all. I have a queation regarding 12 bit audio synch problems. I have digitized a tape recorded with 12 bit audio and am just now coming into video/audio synch issues and was wondering if anyone might have a workflow suggestion. Soecific questions are -
1 - Can I export the troubled clips to quicktime/ resample them at 16 bit and reimport?
2 - Some of the clips I already have edited and are in synch, do I need to correct them as well or will final cut do that on export?
3 - If I get a 12 bit/16 bit mixed bag on my timeline, can I export the mix to 2 track and convert before exporting it to compression?
ANy suggestions on how to work through this would be appreciated. I seem to have a lot of people coming to me with this setting and would like to know of any viable workflow solutions.
    Thanks

    1. Yes. Quicktime Pro, iTunes or third party audio editing software such as Peak can resample to 48khz/ 16 bit.
    2. It would be best if you can get everything in the timeline to be 48khz/16 bit.
    3. See #2.
Dope slap these fools who bring you 32khz stuff. Charge them MUCHO extra for your time.

  • Audio Synch issue

    Hi,
So I have a .mov source file that contains footage captured from a Sony MiniDV camera (don't ask me why we were still using that in November of last year) and I believe I possibly screwed up the capture settings. The footage is 50 minutes of uncut interview and the audio gradually falls out of synch so that by the end it's about a half to a full second slower than the video. We need to edit the file simply to trim the ends so we have a clean fade in and out.
Here's the info on the file as displayed by the Finder
I imported it into Premiere Pro CS6, put it onto a sequence, and clicked "change sequence settings" to match the clip settings.
    Here are the resulting settings:
I unlinked the audio track and moved it so that the sound of the two people high fiving was synched with the video. I cut both the video and audio tracks at that frame, deleted what came after the cut, and moved the audio back to its original position. I then looked at the duration of the video track, and adjusted the duration of the audio track to match. The result was that the audio speed was adjusted to 100.03%, and appeared synched throughout the video.
I thought I had solved my problem; however, when I exported the video the audio went back to falling out of synch slowly, exactly as it does in the source file.
I exported it initially as Format: H.264, Preset: NTSC DV. Then I exported it as H.264, Youtube HD 720p 23.976. Neither worked. The sample rate for both was 48 kHz, so unless I am mistaken, that matched the rate from the source audio.
This is beyond my technical ability and I don't know where to begin fixing it at this point. I no longer have the tape that the footage was on so I can't recapture it. How do I synch the audio and video?
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks!
    Collin

Yes, the second export that I tried was with the Preset that is YouTube HD 720p 23.976. I've done this before with DV footage and it works fine, all that happens is that there are two thick black bars on the sides of the video. I only did this for one of the exports on this particular project though. The first time I tried to export it it was with the NTSC DV preset, and the synch issue was still a problem. So it is independent of the pixel ratio.

  • HDV audio synch error upon capture

I'm having issues with audio synch capture issues.
I set the project settings for HDV 1080i30(60i) - I accepted the defaults of preset, I specified Canon in Device Control
I captured two clips...each ~ 20 minutes in length.  Both have audio synch issues.
Both clips captured footage that included a blank spot(s) in the tape...ie. the timecode was reset when I removed the tape from the camcorder during the trip.
Both captured clips have odd bright red video footage inserted for a second or two (is that an error signal?) in various places.
Both show the following error message:
F;\Video\Project1\Clip 02.mgegError in MPEG stream detected around frame 3502
(there are ~20 such error messages in the Events panel)
    Suggestions?
    Thanks, in advance.

    Thanks for your continued advice.
Doing the resiz in camera makes a lot of sense.  My only concern is not wanting to do my edits and titling for a large project twice (i.e. once for DVD version and later for a BR version).  I know there's some feature of Prem. that allows substitute clips...work on low-res & replace with high-res...but I'm a rookie on that front.  Is there a term for that?
As mentioned earlier, I was willing to try doing a manual capture process in order to work around the timecode breaks.  But I'm running into issues, again.  The first clip ~2 minutes - no problem.  The second clip ~35 minutes - big problems...error reports of dropped frames...must be on portions of the tape other than my timecode breaks.  Also, the thing can't complete the Conforming Clip 02b.mpeg process.  It starts...makes progress...grinds to a halt mid-way...and renders Prem "Non Responsive".
It's feeling like this HDV full res process has lots of gotcha's.  I'm wondering how folks get through it.

  • Audio and Video Synch Issues

Is there a way to fix the audio/video issue in playback? I know adobe pro warns you that it does that, but is it only during previewing or will it also do this when the file is published?

You are talking about directly embedding the video into the main timeline, correct?
For the most part, believe what Adobe says about not embedding video in the timeline or you may have audio sync problems..... which are actually video syncing problems. The auto will play exactly as it's supposed to, it's the video that gets out of sync.... NOT the audio.
The problem usually come up because you are attempting to match the audio up with the video... which is really the wrong way to go about it. Video can to speed up a little or slowwed down a little without really affecting the end result that much.
Not so with audio! Any speeding up or slowing down in an attempt to "match up" with the video, changes the frequence of the audio, distorting the sound. That only makes sense, right?
So if you have one minute of audio, you can't change that to 1:05 by slowing it down slightly, and you can't speed it up to play in :55 unless you want a little "chipmunk" effect. Either method changes the frequency and pitch of the sound.
Understanding that is key to using this particular embed method.
So if for some reason I just have to embed a video, here's a method that works pretty well for me. Set the Flash doc frame rate to exactly match the frame rate of the original video.
That means, for example, if the video was captured at 29.97 frames per sec., set the Flash doc to exactly match that....29.97fps. This will tend to keep the video and audio pretty well synced.
Here is a quick sample of an embedded video. The video bitrate is 400kbps.
    http://www.cidigitalmedia.com/tutorials/vid_sync/vid_sync.html
You can test and judge for yourself how well this method works.
Now there are some potential problems. If the video bitrate is too high, the video may not download fast enough... just like any other high bitrate video. Second, there are Flash timeline limits, so you can't really embed a 20 min. video into the timeline and expect it to work.... but then you shouldn't really be using the "embed in timeline" method anyway.
But it is possible to get pretty good results with short videos (with audio) embedded directly into the main timeline provided you set the Flash doc framerate to exactly match the original video and you use a reasonable video bitrate.

  • Audio synch problem from 24 to 29.97

I am working for a tv show that is having a major audio synch problem.
We send our mix to an external sound house for our pro-tools mix. They request the file to be 29.97, though our timeline is 24. In turn, we export a 24 time line, re-import to an 29.97 timeline and than re-export at 29.97 with a time code burn. They export the mix, using a sound compressor that converts the mix to a 24 fps synch, we send them a 24 frame export that they can check it againest on their end in Final Cut Pro. For them, both the opening and end two-pop lines up. When we recieve the mix back however, and bring it onto our timeline, it is always 24 frames ahead of the picture. We can't fiugre out why.
I know this all sound very confusing.
Below is our export and timeline settings:
    OUR TIME-LINE\EXPORT SETTINGS:
    1st Time Line:
    FS: 1280x1080
    FPS: 24
    Compressor: DVCPRO HD 1080i60
    Aud Rate: 48.0 KHz
    Aud Format: 32-bit Floating Point
    1st Export:
    FPS: 24
    DV\DVCPRO - NTSC
    Compressor: DVCPRO HD 1080i60
    Aud Rate: 48.0 KHz
    Aud Format: 32-bit Floating Point
    Data Rate: 2.9MB/sec
    2nd Time Line:
    FPS: 29.97
    Compressor: DV/DVCPRO - NTSC
    Aud Rate: 48.0 KHz
    Aud Format: 32-bit Floating Point
    2nd Export:
    FPS: 29.97
    Compressor: DV\DVCPRO - NTSC
    Aud Rate: 48.0 KHz
    Aud Format: 16-bit Integer
    Data Rate: 3.6 MB/sec
    AUDIO MIX SETTINGS:
    Data Rate: 140.6 K/sec
    Aud Rate: 48.0 KHz
    Aud Format: 24-bit Integer
Total Out: The audio is exactly 24 frames ahead of the video by the end of the clip
We shot on a Panasonic HDX900
Can anybody think why this might be happening?

ProTools mixes 24fps...and 23.98, which SHOULD be the case here. There is NO REASON why they should want a 29.97 mix, nor should they mix at that rate...because you are not working at that rate nor delivering that rate...are you?
Your sequence settings confuse me. DVCPRO HD 1080i60 runs at 59.94. You can get it to 23.98 with a little work...but you indicate 24fps. Is that SOLID 24fps? Not 23.98? If so...that is a major issue. You should not be working at 24fps. 23.98 is the frame rate...
Still...if you are working at 23.98 and delivering a 23.98 master, the audio guy needs to mix at 23.98. ProTools is capable of 23.98. If they can't do that, then I'd suggest finding another mixer.

  • 10.4.10 Audio Popping Issues: Information Check with Internal Speakers

For people with internal speakers, or those without subwoofers: Please read all the way to the bottom to find a test that will determine whether you are also having audio problems, even if you can't hear pops.
We've had a lot of discussion about audio popping due to 10.4.10, and the evidence indicates that the audio circuitry is going to sleep to conserve power, even on AC-only computers like the iMac, Mac Mini, and (at least one) Mac Pro. Some people claim to not have this problem, but I'm wondering if they just aren't noticing it.
Having external speakers with a subwoofer, set to high amplification, are key to obvious detection of the problem. Let the sound subsystem go idle for 30+ seconds (wait a minute with no audio, just to be safe), turn up your external speakers really loud, and cause the computer to make a sound. You should hear a burst before the sound plays. If you repeat the sound, you won't hear the burst. This is the sound of the audio circuitry powering on, and the speakers are amplifying it.
About 30 seconds after the sound finishes playing, if you leave the volume of your speakers turned way up, you should hear a "pop" as the circuitry is powered off. Then, playing another sound will recreate the burst.
I haven't been able to hear these sounds with internal speakers, either on the Mini or iMac. But the problem still exists, and it is detectable... if you know what you are looking for.
The burst of the audio circuitry turning on also causes a delay in the audio. The delay is a noticeable fraction of a second, an it can easily be detected if you have a repeatable source of sound. I like Terminal.app, because I use that application all day, every day. Here is how you can check to see if you are also subject to the audio problems:
    1. Start Terminal.app (in the /Applications/Utilities directory).
    2. Wait one minute for the audio circuitry to shut down.
    3. Without typing anything else, very quickly strike and release the Backspace key.
    4. If you pressed the key all the way, the program should have caused a beep. However, if the audio circuitry goes to sleep, the beep should occur after you have moved your hand off the key. This is because the circuitry takes time to power itself on before playing the sound.
    5. Now, quickly strike the Backspace key again. You should notice that the sound is produced immediately as you hit the key, without the delay you just witnessed.
    6. Strike the Backspace key repeatedly, to confirm that there is no audio delay. Do this about once every second or two. If you press the key too rapidly, not all of the presses will produce sounds... this behavior is not related to the issue we are testing.
    7. Wait another minute for the audio circuitry to shut down, and strike the Backspace key once more. You should again observe a delay between your strike and the sound production.
If you witness delays like this, your audio circuitry is also going to sleep, and you are having the same audio problems as the rest of us. However, either because you are using internal speakers, or because your external speakers don't have the appropriate response, you aren't hearing the same bursts and pops as the rest of us.
Please try this test, and report here. I want to build a list of people who previously couldn't hear the sounds, but still have the delay. This might give us a better picture of the scope of the problem.

Re: 10.4.10 Audio Popping Issues: Information Check with Internal Speakers
Your analysis of what is happening is right on.
The problem on my Intel Mac mini with external Klipsch speakers (two mid-range/high and a subwoofer) is REAL obvious as the system emits a hum like a Spinal Tap amplifier turned up to #11 when 10.4.10 powers down the audio circuitry
Then, if I play a song in iTunes, it first pops and the hum disappears right before playing.
    Quite annoying.
Here's what I sent to Apple tech support:
    Guys/Gals (OS X Engineers):
Concerning the Snap, Crackle Pop Audio problem in the 10.4.10 update:
Please. Just do the right thing and fix the audio.
There is no need to power cycle the audio subsystem to save .0005 amps on your laptops.
And then to make your Mac mini/iMac/other desktop users have to put up with it when using AC power is ridiculous.
Put the audio subsystem back like it was in 10.4.9 and let the laptop battery freaks looking for mini-amp savings get a "work-a-round".

  • Playback pauses and audio sync issues with live video stream

I'm seeing playback pauses about every three seconds and audio sync issues with our live demo stream when using the OSMF/Strobe player.  It happens on both our 2Mbps 720p stream and our 480p 750Kbps stream so it does not seem to be related to higher resolution/bandwidth streams.  It also happens if I point directly to a stream asset or if I point to a .f4v with both streams listed for dynamic so it does not seem to be related to dynamic streaming specifically.
The same live streams play back very well without pauses or audio sync issues in the Akamai's dynamic player and even slightly better with JW 5.2.
I have viewed the OSMF/Strobe playback on three different laptops of various age (3 months to 2 years) and two are Windows and one is Linux.  I have also tried the various buffering options on the Flash Media Player Setup and Strobe setup and it has not made a noticeable difference.
To see the stream with the Akamai player, go to:  http://live.kulabyte.com
To see the stream with the OSMF/Strobe player, go to:  http://live.kulabyte.com/osmf
I do not have JW set up for public viewing yet, but the two above show the distinct difference.
We are really hoping to start pointing our customers towards the OSMF player because of the support provided by the community and Adobe, but we have to get the quality of the playback to be acceptable first.
If someone has ideas on debugging I can PM the actual video assets to you.
    Thanks,
    Tim

    Hi Tim,
You need to add this setting:
    dynamicStreamBufferTime=8
The actual value can be higher or lower. The best practice is to use a value that is twice the keyframe distance. Anyway, try different values and see which performs the best for your content.
I know that the setup page does not contain this option and it is not documented in the UserGuide. We simply missed it. Sorry.
Also note that the dynamic buffering algorithms are not being used for dynamic streaming content. I tried to explain this here:
    https://sourceforge.net/adobe/smp/wiki/Dynamic%20Buffering/
Looking forward to your confirmation that this solved your issue.

  • Flv audio sync issues & player 9

Greetings, I've been looking for a solution for weeks, and
thought I'd give the forums a shot.
I have a client site with 6 progressively downloaded flv
clips that play when a button is clicked.
The flv files are encoded with After Effects 6.5, and the swf
files are published in Player 8.
The video clips are made with an alpha channel of a guy
talking and are about 30 sec to 1 minute long each.
The problem is audio sync issues on certain computers during
playback even when the files are completely buffered.
The other problem is that these flv files won't play on
computers that have player 9 loaded.
I'm investigating whether there are audio sync issues when
encoding flv files from AE 6.5, but still really
confused about the player 9 issue. I was wondering if there
are updates to 9 I can recommend to my client
or if adobe knows of any bugs that are currently being looked
    into.
    Thanks,
    Kevin

I may just be talking to myself here, but...
Could there be any difference in the way an flv plays when
    you
import the flv to the stage, as opposed to playing it
    dynamically
using the NetStream class? Could this cause any audio sync
issues? Does Flash Player 9 have any difficulties displaying
    flv files loaded dynamically?
Any ideas from Adobe folks would be great. Thanks.

  • Quicktime audio sync issues

    Hello,
I have quicktime version 10 (128).   I can't get anything to play in it without there being severe audio sync issues every time.  I can't figure out why.  Can someone please help me fix this problem?
When I export my movies from imovie to quicktime it will play in quicktime, properly and without sync issues, for a really short period of time - seconds.  But after that, the audio no longer matches the video.   I know it's an issue in QT because when I upload the video to YouTube there are no audio sync issues whatsoever.
    Help?
    Thank you so much,
    YahYah

I am dissapointed to see that no one has addressed this issue. I have similar issues.
The MP4's play perfectly in the quicktime player but in Premiere they are off by varying degrees sometimes up to a minute even. I had similar problems in the past with files from the same producer. However last time I was able to  change the extension before importing and then sync them up manually on the timeline. It worked everytime. This time however when I change the extension Premiere brings it in as an audio only file.

  • Audio Sync Issue on Export

    Hello,
I have an issue with an export that I am attempting to do.  I have used 50 still photos (psd) and created a slide show in after effects.  It is working well.  I attempted to create 4 comps made from standard dv footage.  720 x 480 from video cameras in the 1990s.  I need to export out eventually to 1920 x 1080 for showing on our TV channel.  It would be a .m2t format.  When i attempted to do a test export, everything worked fine....the photo comps were good, the only problems were the video clips that had video/audio sync issues.
I am not sure what the problem is exactly.  I feel my workflow is not right and that is leading to this issue.
I created the 50 slide comps in AE
I then used the hour long DV clips in PrPRO to make sub clips (about 30 seconds each, total of 8)
I rendered these out to then import into AE
imported into AE and made comps out of them
then render out a test file that would be my finalproject in mpeg format.
I would like to not render the video a second time and would like, basically to take my AE photo comps straight to prmiere pro to insert the DV footage but don't know how exactly to do that.
Is there something that you can recommend.
    Thanks,
