Audio syncronization, Mac Mini

Hello,
I'm experiencing an annoying audio delay when watching video clips on my Mac Mini. I'm using headphones connected to the jack output, and I know the clips are in sync, as I have watched them on my windows computer.
I'm not able to figure out what's causing the delay. Any suggestions are highly appreciated!

OK, that error is a good clue & known to cause Audio problems.
Are these video clips Flash Based?

  • Unable to record just audio with Mac Mini - no isight

I am trying to use Podcast Capture on a mac mini connected to a generic monitor (no isight) and it is unable to initialize the audio subsystem. I am assuming this has to do with it needing a video camera, but surely that isn't required to record an audio only podcast. I have a microphone plugged into the line in and it works successfully in Garageband. Please help!

Take a look at Soundflower, which will allow you to record audio from any source:

  • Hdmi audio on mac mini with lion

    Hi
How can I get my audio to be output through a hdmi cable ?
By default sound was output by the hedphone  jack or the internal speaker. In setting/sound I see HDMI and my blue tooth headphones, I can select anyting tjhere except HDMI (tv) ?
    Antoine

I have Mac Mini (mid 2010) hooked on to 5.1 ch speakers (Bose) and LED TV (Samsung) through AV amp (Bose LS-35), all connections using HDMI cable. The dream system autput is limited to 3.1 (no sound from LR and RR).
When I then configure my speakers through the Midi-setup utility. I can specifically trigger each speaker successfully (control sound comes with the configure speakers tool). The video is also good. The problem is that whatever movie I play and whatever software I use (DVD player or Quicktime or VLC), I hear only stereo. I also tried every possible permutation in the software settings without success.
The fact that the midi-setup (in utilities) can drive every speaker indicates that the wiring is correct and even that the AV-received transmits the macs signal properly. But somehow, the output from the mac (apart from the setup tool) fails miserably.
I looked through hundreds of forums without success. People suggest using toslink and HDMI connection, but then we need to use two remotes, etc and not sure if that will either.
Apple clearly states MacMini is capable of producing 5.1 ch sound (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4214)
Hope to get some help and guys in Apple zero in on the issue

  • Dual video and audio with mac mini

    Hi there,
I am looking at purchasing a mac mini, but would like to know if it is possible to have 2 monitors attached, but each monitor would have a different sound.
    Example.
Video playing on the HD TV and then listen to music via the audio out.
    Many thanks

The dual monitors is not a problem, but the audio scenario you're suggesting will only work if the music is streamed via Airplay.  I believe since mini only has a single audio card, output via conventional outputs (SPDIF, HDMI, 1/8") may only work one at a time.  Airplay streams music as data, and not as a signal, so that's how you'd work around that.

  • A Riddle!  What causes DSP Plantronic models to have no audio in Mac Mini?

Do any folks out there have Plantronic headsets (the DSP digital series - USB) that don't seem to work in Mac Minis? To be more specific, the audio/mic does not function? Have you had access to other Intel machines that this is the case? This is what happened to me. Yet, it works fine on my 12" Powerbook (IBM-based Macs). What thinks ye? This is probably very specific, but I want to find the answer for those that have been wracking their brain as I have. Mike

I see that my July 9th question on Plantronics DSP was never answered, either! Here is the answer to that riddle!
Note the idiosyncrasy between Powerbook and Mac Mini series with DSP defaulting in their mute switches. The mute switches both are lighted at startup but the Mac Mini defaults to mute whereas the Powerbook defaults to a non-muted status. This can really play with your mind if you're not aware of it in the Mac Mini!
So, you need to hit that button on the audio wire to UNMUTE it. On the PowerBook models (and other Power PC's?), you have to hit the button twice to MUTE it. That's the gist of what I learned when the Plantronics tech, Matt, prompted me to go through some fresh steps using the *Audio Midi utility. Mystery of the non-functioning mic for the DSP 400 and the Mac Mini? Solved!
*If you are running OS 10.4.10 you will need to go through these steps to unmute the microphone
1). Verify the Headset has no input on your computer
2). Launch "Audio MIDI Setup.app" (using the Finder)
3). In System Settings, select "Plantronics Headset" as the default input
4). In "Propertiies For:" select "Plantronics Headset"
5). In the bottom right area of the window, uncheck "Mute"
6). Test the microphone to verify it works

  • Unwanted internal audio on Mac Mini Server 2010

I have a Mac Mini server (2010) connected to my Sony Bravia TV. Everything works fine. However, if I am playing a video and turn off the TV, the audio switches from the TV speakers to the internal speakers of the Mac Mini. Is there any way to stop this happening? I have already gone into Preferences->Sound and selected the TV (HDMI) as the output.
    TIA

Seems possible although I would say one needs some care to ensure that the cooling systems operate as needed.

  • No audio on mac mini - have searched other threads

First of all, there is no Icon in the menu bar for the volume control. Second, Audio/MIDI setup and Sound Pref Pane does not report any output devices at all. Strangely enough, System Profiler DOES report audio output as LoadToonie (Which I can assume is the correct device, though it seems like a strange name). LoadToonie also shows the internal speaker as working (but it does not work when in OSX). Also, strangely enough, I can hear the startup sound on boot from the internal speaker. I have looked at the article about the output frequencies, but this does not apply to me because the preferences pane does not report any output devices. Quicktime only plays video, iTunes does not play anything, and VLC reports "No Output Device Found." Please help!
    Thanks!

Mac Mini   Mac OS X (10.4.3)   1.42GHz 1GB RAM Combo Drive

It sounds to me that you have 1 of 2 things going on with your mini. Either the os is no longer seeing your output device and you need to reinstall using an archive install, or the hardware on your mini is burned out which is doubtful given the strange name in the hardware profile. Hope this helps

  • No sound no audio in Mac Mini Early 2006

I'm using a Early 2006 version of Mac Mini, I have upgraded the CPU to Core 2 Due 2.0Ghz, and ram to 2G. So it runs Mac OS X 10.7.5. Recently, I have no sound but used to have in the past. I've checked systems and I have no sound output. Output volume is grayed out and shows muted. Also on System Report, the "Audio" page is totally blank which used to show Intel HDA specs. I've tried resetting PRAM and SMC (twice)- that didn't work. I've tried plugging in speakers, headphones, etc. Doesn't work. Is this a hardware problem? Any ideas? I have not tried to re-boot from original optical disc and press C, but I will try to look for the old disc first.

I suspect you disconnected something during the disassembly/reassembly. Take it apart and check your work

  • Audio for mac mini

As of right now i have a generic surround sound system hooked up with my xbox 360. I am actually buyin a mac mini here in a week. This surround sound will only take AV cables (Red White) Will the mac mini support that and are there any cables that i can buy for that?
    Dell   Windows ME

The Mini only has a line out socket, same size plug
as a normal pair of headphones.
You should easily be ably to find a cable that will
convert a headphone style socket to the standard
red/white RCA plugs... something like this - it's a UK link, but
hopefiully will point you in the right direction...
hey thanks i really appreciate it

  • How to play DVD-Audio with Mac mini?

I tried to search the forums but didn't find any answers...
Mini is my only machine on living room I'm using for music, videos etc.
Apple's DVD Player won't even open the disc, but says it's "invalid format".
VLC does open the disc, but only outputs 2ch stereo in dolby surround I think.
I have an DVD-A disc with DTS 6.1 ES mix.
    Thank you for any help!

Got a partial solution by ripping the DVD with MactheRipper and then opening with Apple's DVD Player. This of course means that I have to burn a copy or keep the ripped version on my hard disk...

  • What audio suppored by Mac Mini 5.1, 6.1, DTS or dolby ?

    Hi,
Do you know what type of audio does Mac Mini (previous to early 2009) support ?
    - 5.1 I guess Yes
    - 6.1 ? didin't find any comment on this norm
    and DTS or Dolby
    Many thanks
    HDR

To the best of my knowledge, the sound is only 5.1 Dolby. One thing to remember though is that most audio source media is still going to be stereo only. The surround sound capability is only really going to matter for sources like DVDs.

  • Mac mini digital audio

Can anyone help with digital audio on Mac mini late 2012 model?
I have a Denon AVR-2808 and tried numerous ways to get Dolby digital with no success. Tried both HDMI and the optical via audio out with a belkin adapter.
Paying iTunes movies the most I get is DTS Neo or multi-channel in. Amp plays DD from both my Blu Ray and Cable TV without any problems.
Have searched the net and tried a few other fixes with no success. Any help here would be appreciated
    Brad

Does he have the 1.42ghz G4 Mini? If so, that model is not a digital/optical audio out jack, at least not the 1.42ghz model I have. Did not check to see if a later update prior to the intel switch added the port to that model. My 1.66Ghz intel mini has the digital/optical audio out. Tell your firend to check the manual that came with his mini, it will tell you if it is a digital/optical out port or not.

  • Mac Mini A1176 Audio

    Hello Everyone,
I'm faily new to Mac world and I have a question about Mac Mini A1176 Audio to HDTV. I'm trying to make a HTPC and followed couple of guides online but I didn't get clear understanding of Digital Audio from Mac Mini to HDTV. I can configure the structure with stereo headphone to RCA but would like to know if there is a possibility to get digital audio. I have DVI to HDMI cable running from Mac Mini to HDTV but it doesn't give audio (as also stated by mac documentation). I would appreciate any response that could direct me to correct configuration of my HTPC with digital audio.
    Thanks,
    Pyraxic

Only the newer Mac Mini's with a true HDMI output connection supports digital audio down the display cable.
If your HDTV or Stereo Receiver supports Optical (Toslink) Audio input, then you could use a Toslink cable with a 3.5mm adapter on one end connected to the Mini's headphone jack. see > NewerTech CBLAOPTMT Toslink to Mini Toslink Optical... in stock at OWC
If not, then you are limited to the current 3.5mm to RCA cable connection that you are now using.

  • Mac Mini struggling to copy/rip some older audio CDs

    Hello,
I have a 2012 Mac Mini, 2.6Ghz Quad-Core i7, 1TB Fusion Drive and 16GB of Crucial memory. Some months back I made a decision to re-rip my CD library as Apple Lossless, for streaming to the Apple TV connected to my receiver. I started with my newest CDs and worked backwards, but when I got down to the oldest of my CDs there were some (but not all) that the Mini struggled to rip cleanly or at all. With those troublesome discs, the results varied. Some discs would simply flat-out fail to rip or even copy to the desktop directly from the disc. Others would struggle to rip or copy but appear to succeed, only for the tracks to be riddled with millisecond audio drop-outs (this is actually more of a hassle, as it requires manually proofing every track for flaws). What's really bizarre is that even a directly copied file from disc to desktop would suffer the same audio drop-outs, even though it's a digital file going through no conversion and should be identical in every way.
So the logical conclusion would be that these discs have just gone bad due to age; but there-in lies the catch. Not only do the discs play without issue in other CD players, but I was able to successfully copy the same CDs on three other Macs (even using the same external optical drive in one case) successfully. The disc I ripped yesterday on my Mac Mini whose tracks were full of audio drop-outs now sounds flawless when ripped on my Mac Pro at work.
Obviously I have a workaround for getting these discs loaded - rip them on another computer - but now my bigger concern is what on earth if wrong with my Mac Mini? Is it a hardware issue? Something with the USB ports? Or the Fusion drive? The Operating System? Does anyone have any suggestions to try prior to me making a second backup of all my data and dragging it to the Genius Bar? Thanks.

    I have both:
    - an internal slot-loading drive in my mini, like you, and
    - an external USB-connected 5.25" mains-powered tray-loading drive.  A "proper" drive!
I too have problems sometimes reading/writing with the internal.  I've always assumed they have to make LOTS of compromises and shortcuts with the design and specification of the slim, low-powered internal drives, which are really intended for laptop/battery use- and always failing, as reading threads here will show.
I suggest you beg/borrow/buy a "real" external like mine for your old-CD rips. They're not expensive, and you can always sell it on when you've ripped your CD collection.

Alternatively, these days, you might have to buy an enclosure and drive separately and combine them, or get a used one off eBay.

  • New Mac Mini and TrueHD audio

Has any one know if it's possible to play back uncompressed audio streams from .m2ts streams thru the HDMI connector, or are the Dolby Digital and/or DTS the only streams that can play back thru HDMI?

Apple have only said Dolby DTS works, and PCM works. They have not mentioned TrueHD. However others have said that currently the chips used in the Mac mini do not support sending True HD via the HDMI, even though the HDMI specification obviously allows this.
The conclusion is that we would have to wait for another newer Mac mini model with a better set of chips.
I have seen less to nothing about the possibility of running TrueHD via the Mini Displayport and then an adapter to HDMI. It is the case that the Mini Displayport supports audio on the 2010 Mac mini but it is likely the same chip issue prevents True HD.
This is all very disappointing of course.
For the moment, I am sticking with an Apple TV running XBMC which is far cheaper but still does not support TrueHD.
PS. If the rumours are that the next Apple TV only does 720p are true, then Microsoft will (rightly) be laughing at Apple's feeble efforts.
