Audio tapes to garage band

I am trying to use garage band to make cd's from old audio tape contents. After I have got the music into garage band and made all of the changes to improve the quality on the master track, how do I seperate the track so that my cd when burnt won't be one continuous track, and how do I burn it to a cd?
Thanks

An audio editor is better suited to this task:
http://www.thehangtime.com/gb/gbfaq2.html#audioeditors
However you can do what you want by using the Cycle
Region button and stretching the yellow bar around
each song (portion of the track) and exporting.
Thanks for replying
Does this mean that I cannot use garageband for the purpose that I mentioned.
I did read an article in a Mac magazine expressing that making cd's from old audio tapes is possible with garageband, hence me purchasing it. But like all Mac products the manuals are so uninformative.

  • Can I create chapters in an audio track in Garage Band?

Can I create chapters in an audio track in Garage Band? I want to be able to find sections quickly. Or is there another more podcast oriented application that will do this?
    Thanks!

    Hello Jack,
You can add chapter markers to a podcast track or a movie track, not to an audio track.
Dragging any still image to the time line in GarageBand will create a podcast track: This image will be used as icon/artwork for your poadcast: See

  • Audio-In for Garage Band on new 13" MBP?

    Hi
The new 13" MBP's have a combined audio in/out port on the side, unlike the larger models which have separate input and output ports. Is it possible to configure Garage band to take input from a guitar connected to this port (with suitable adapter)? I have tried but got no result. Maybe there is something in the settings that I missed.
    Any help appreciated.
    Thanks.

I'm guessing that the adapter you've tried is a 'stereo' mini-plug with three contact bands instead of four.
By observation, Apple earphones _with microphone_ designed for newer MacBook Pros (and iPods that allow recording) have a fourth contact band on the mini-plug.
You may also need to go to system preferences and change sound preferences to select input.
An alternative would be a USB audio device designed for input from your guitar.

  • Editing audio and samples- garage band fit for the job?

    hey folks,
I'm rather new to Garage band but know other applications quite well (i'm an Acid & soundforge convert).
A few questions to help get me up to speed.
Garage band is great for loops and recording but what about editing samples and existing files?
For example, I have hours of recorded sounds from the streets, etc that I'd like to chop up into loops. Im having trouble zeroing in with garage band on start and endpoints for cropping...
Is Garage band an 'all in one' or are you expected to use an external editing software to do this? IF so, what software are most people using for this?
next question. any easy way to reverse a file in Garage band??? how about use your mouse cursor to define the start point in playback (Kind of important when you're zeroing in while editin).
Sorry for the loaded questions = these are my roadblocks right now...

what about editing samples and existing files?
An audio editor is a better chocie for, well, editing audio:

  • Recording tape through garage band and I mac mic

Something happened while recording tapes into my computer using I Mic and we can't get it to work again-tried everything. So when I was asked if I could make a Cd of 25 year old tapes of a concert choir for a reunion this month, I tried in a quiet setting, playing the tape on a tape unit, and using garage band to record it to my computer through the built in I mic. This did work, and I could save it to I Tune, etc. but the only way I could do it was to use Podcast, and my choice of selection is either female voice, male voice or "jingles." I tried all 3 options and always get a poor copy of the tape in that it doesn't have the rich sound of the taped piece. My recorder unit does not have any outlets to record tape deck to computer so this is my only option right now and time is running out.
Does anyone have a suggestion as to which setting on Podcast would work best for a choir sound or anything else I could try before I give up the project?

  • How do you take MANY slices of an audio file on garage band and merge them together without dragging and dropping each one?

I record my classroom lectures in law school to help study for finals. However in the hour and a half class there are many pauses, bad questions, wrong answers, useless stories or announcements that I do not have to hear again. I import the audio into gargae band and cut out all the unnessesary stuff. I end up with a file of 100 + clips. If i spend the time dragging and droping them so there are no spaces in between clips the process takes forever. However the reward is relistenign to an hour and half lecture in 15-20 minutes. Thats about how much content the professor gives. Is there a way to merge all the audio by selecting some option? I bascially want garage band to just slide all the clips and condence it to one clip.
I have takent the time the last few semesters to do this the hard way and have been able to relisten to an entire class in 3.5 hours which is huge! if you have ever been in law school. But I don't have that kind of time anymore. HELP!

  • Can anyone recommend an audio device for Garage Band?

For the past three years I used Windows and Cubase LE with my Tascam US-122 for multitrack recording. A month ago, I finally switched to MAC (so good!) and my US-122 worked pretty good with GarageBand, except for a milisecond recording latency issue that I was almost willing to live with. Also, my US-122's headphone jack no longer worked so I decided to try the newer tascam US-144 so I could use head phones and to see if it would cure my latency issue. The headphones are ok, but now I get buzzing and hissing when I play back multi-track recordings in both GB and Cubase LE. This is so annoying I haven't even tested the latency problem. I'm ready to send back my US-144 and get something that is known to work well with the MAC OS and GB and eventually Logic Express. Any recommendations?

I "second" Hangtime's recommendation for a Firewire interface. Generally, Firewire interfaces are more reliable, although they are also usually more expensive. If you are serious about recording, and plan to migrate to Logic, it may be worth it for you to spring for a Firewire interface.
You might want to check out the selection on a major retailer's site like Sweetwater Sound. Their website is www.sweetwater.com, and they have just about everything, so it's a great place to check out what's out there. Their sales reps are also pretty knowledgeable (well, some are), but if you call them, make sure they don't sell you anything you don't want!
Budget is obviously a key factor in making a decision. If what you're after is rock solid performance, I've found RME interfaces (the Fireface 800 or the smaller Fireface 400) absolutely rock solid. Apogee's Ensemble and Duet offer very good sound quality sound for the price, but are still more than twice as much as interfaces offering similar features (but not the sound quality). For interfaces at a lower price point offering great bang for the buck, I like M-Audio and Presonus.

  • Can I speak into my mac and save it as an audio file with garage band

Can I speak into my mac and save it as digital audio file?

Looking at the specs, the mini does not appear to have a built-in microphone as the iMacs do. You can't just plug a microphone into the input socket, as that is line level and a microphone doesn't have enough output. Your easiest move would be to buy a USB headset such as the one Plantronics makes for use with Skype: this should work straight off.
Sound Recorder is a simple audio recorder: I've not used it, so I don't know if it's any good, but it would at least cost you nothing to try it.
Amadeus II and Amadeus Pro are reasonably priced and are fully featured sound recorders and editors which can save in a number of formats.

  • Trouble with audio files and Garage Band 10

Hi. I am having a very uneven experience using GB10. I sometimes successfully record tunes with more than one audio file (i.e. choosing the microphone option when creating a new track). But two things keep happening.
    1. I sometimes cannot hear my instrument even though I have clicked on the input monitoring button. I play the instrument and I see no indication on screen (via green squares moving from left to right) that any signal is being received.
    2. I sometimes experience a delay with a live instrument--I play the instrument and the note sounds a split second later. I am familiar with using the Smart Controls...this is not a deliberate echo effect.
These have ground my recording to a halt.  Any input into why these things are happening would be most welcome! David

sure....say I record a clip in track one with a bunch of plugins....export the clip to the audio region...then import back to the arrange...
First of all it won't let me play the clip in Track 2, but if I shift the clip to track 3 it'll play....BUT I can't control the volume or pan .....very strange. I hate freezing stuff...although I have been for ages....but if this works it'll be cool....
    Thanks...

  • Is using the MBOX as an audio interface for garage band possible?

I have an MBOX that I used with protools on my PC and it may be awhile before I finally get protools on my mac. Is it possible to use the MBOX with garageband?? and if so...are there any specs I should know about before using it?

Check on the digi site and/or forum for more info if you are using Snow Leopard.
But you may be fine with a USB interface.

  • How to contact Apple for Garage Band iPad bugs?

I looked around a little bit, but couldn't find a place to report Garage Band bugs or contact Apple support for Garage Band iPad. I wanted to notify Apple of the problem that bluetooth audio output in Garage Band does not work. (Yes I am aware of the latency, however, this would still appear to be a bug in Garage Band if a user has explicitly set audio output to bluetooth. Not all applications fo Garage Band require zero latency.)

  • Changing Pitch in Garage Band without Echo/Noise

Hi, I am making an audio recording in Garage Band.  Just a voice over for a spec TVC.  I am using an Audio Technica USB mic to narrate.  I would like to change the pitch of my voice to -40 cents, but I am finding it turns it very echoy and adds a bit of a humming noise to certain words.  Any help, greatly appreciated, thanks!

Garageband has to do all its effects on the fly, while playing back the track. To achieve a better effect, you might take your recording to an audio editor like Audacity, apply the pitch change there, and re-import the altered audio into GB.
