Audio to score problems

Does any one knows good tips to make it work with guitars, I have a guitar part that I'm trying to covert to midi information, however all the notes stay within the same note. no pitch changes
any ideas?

Call me crazy, but would it not be very much easier (& better for your brain) just to listen to the pitch & find the closest note to it on a keyboard (nice neutral sound such as piano)? It might be slow +at first+ if you've never tried it before, but the more you do it the better you get at it; you'll soon speed up.
When learning any skill, it takes time to get started. And as skills go, this would be just about the very best one you could learn, if you're into music.

  • Tricky Beatmapping and audio to score problem

    This is my scenario:
I am recording a rockband with a unexperienced drummer. His drumset is cheap and sounds like a set of plastic pots. I have recorded them before so I have a sollution for the sounds of the drums. I simply make audio to score on BD and SD and add or replaces his drumsounds. last recordings I didnt work with the tempo which variable up and down 10 - 20 bpm ( yeah I know, ouch! ) but this time I have sat down and worked through the 10 songs and made a tempo based on beat mapping of the BD&SD.
    Now here's the problem:
When I have made a Beatmapping and does the audio to score on BD for instance. And put up a ultrabeat BD on that miditrack, the tempo on the miditrack is not right! The Miditrack doesnt seem to follow the tempochanges of the beatmapping made.
Can I correct this now? Or do I have to start all over and FIRST add the Drumsounds, record them to audio AND then Beatmap?
I searched the forum but there was alot of posts on beatmapping and I am in a little timestress.
    / Mikke

    Mikke,
It's been my experience, that once there is audio recorded into a Logic song, changing any of the tempo functions causes the audio regions to move. i.e. there placement will change... unless you SPMTE lock them first.
In your case, all the drum tracks will have moved together, so you may not have noticed it, per say.
As to how this relates to your current problem, I'm not entirely sure if it does. But I can't help but wonder if the Audio to Score function is somehow "locked" to the original SMPTE position of the drum transients. Again... I'm WAY stabbing in the dark here.
    2 things...
What happens if you re-apply the Audio to Score function? Does the newly created MIDI region follow now?
And what happens if you clear the beat mapped tempo list, and reset Logic back to the original tempo it was when you tracked the drums? (I realize you didn't cut to a click, but Logic's internal tempo was set somewhere... get it back to where it was, if you can). Then apply the Audio to Score. Does it follow the original drums now?
If the end result is to merely replace/enhance the drums, perhaps you may need to forgo the beat mapping. Just a thought...
    Keep us posted...

  • Logic crashing whenever I do more than one audio to score or trasposition

Wonder if anybody else is having this issue. I'm on OSX 10.7.4 2.66 ghz c2d intel MBP with 8gb ram. Using Logic Pro 9.1.7.
If I use audio to score the first time it works fine, but after that Logic bugs out and none of my hot keys work (command+S no longer saves, command+0 no longer opens the event list, etc). Other than that it works, but if I try to audio to score again, when I finish it will crash. Usually the screen flashes white first. Sometimes I have to force quit, sometimes it just completely vanishes.
The same thing will happen if I am using Function>Transorm on the event list.
Would really love to know if this is happening to other people. I don't know how to revert back to an older version of logic (I downloaded an earlier one, but when I try to run it it tells me there is a newer version already installed). I have multiple songs that need to have audio to score done 5ish times, and transposition the same, and I have to restart logic between each time because it will crash if I don't.  Blah.

Have you tried assigning a different key command to open the list?  I don't know if you're using an "O" or a zero but an "O" might be a problem.  Just a shot in the dark but in any case I do know that sometimes key command comflicts or non-assignments can give a white screen flash.
You'd have nothing to lose by assigning a new key command.  I don't have Logic open now but I think you get to Key Commands by clicking "Settings" tab up at top left.  If not that, it's in Preferences.  When there use the search function to find "list", select your exact function from the choices,  and then use the automatic "learn function" at the right to type in a new key or key combo. Worth a shot. Also, we should all be exporting a copy of our key commands to dropbox or some other drive for safe keeping.
    Cheers,

  • AUDIO TO SCORE is gone and it was much more precise for drum doubling than the doubling function itself.

AUDIO TO SCORE. I used that all the time for drum doubling for the following reasons:
In Logic 9 i always used audio to score for drum doubling because it had much more control over essential parameters than the drum replacement window. Parameters like: Granulation, Smooth Release and Attack Range made sure that i didn't have any flams, too few notes, too many notes etc etc. AND you could see in the sample editor (below the waveform) immediately the effect of the changes made in those parameters!
Now with these parameters gone and only the drum doubling function left, what was a real pro function has become much more cumbersome to use. You can no longer see in detail what changes in parameters does to the out-coming midi. And the lack of the detailed parameters makes drum doubling drop or miss notes, makes flams with the original drum track etc etc.... In short. The drum doubling function is inadequate for pro results.
So this is my suggestion: Apple probably wont reinstate audio to score as it was (i'd love it if they did, it's essential to me and others who does rock mixes in logic instead of protools). But you can do something that's even better:
In the audio file editor (previously the sample editor) make the old audio to score into an advanced drum doubling/replacement editor. Take the audio to score window and parameters and reinstate them BUT instead of outputting different note values make them output to a desired note of the users choice (e.g C1). Without opening the library. It cluters the window and often people want to use their own drum software than apples samples.
It's the realtime view in the bottom of the audiofile editor that makes a difference. And the missing parameters. Without these things a good outcome is based on luck rather than visual reference.

I was doing drum replacement ( adding ) with Audio-to-score for years, and must say, drum replacement is working for me without any flams and much better and 2x faster. I think it is pro feature, with advanced transient detector. Only problem is velocity,as in Audio-to-score.
If automatic threshold not working on some material, you can do  fine transient edits in audio editor with visual realtime feedback, you can change output note and delay globally. Also you can hear ( in compare with Audio-to-score), that's why library is opened and sample replacement -after, not difficult to do.

  • Audio to MIDI Groove/Audio to Score - Undocumented Change

Anyone who uses these functions may have noticed a recent change in behaviour.
From page 464 of the manual...
"Creating an Audio to MIDI Groove Template"
"5 Click on any audio trigger point to prevent it from being transferred to the template.
Manually selected (unused) points will be dimmed."
Well... the background of the 'trigger point' area used to be white and totally independent from the region selection process, so although the trigger points themselves are only one pixel wide, it wasn't a problem if you missed one when clicking; you just kept clicking until you got it. The problem now is that the trigger point area is dark and is included as part of the region selection process, so if you miss a trigger point by even one pixel when clicking, the region will become deselected.
Something else not mentioned in the manual is that holding the Option/Alt key will prevent region deselection when clicking the trigger point background. Be careful not to drag while option-clicking though, as this will move the region boundaries.

There is the Audio to Score function located in the sample editor->Factory->Audio to score which will convert Audio files into Midi Data, but it mainly works reasonably well with monophonic melodic material and drums/percussive sounds. So don't expect harmonic material/chords to be converted as you might expect.

  • **** snare flams using audio to score function!

    Hello,
I've been using audio to score function to trigger snare samples from the ex24 to mix in with a recorded audio snare track.
The problem is however the midi notes don't always exactly lock in with the audio resulting in random flams that I have to zoom in and move.
Have I got the settings wrong for this? (I think I used the preset for drums-fast)
Not sure if there is something I'm doing wrong, possibly the sensitivity?
    Thanks!

You've got to play with the settings, and yes, I get flams too. You have to zoom in, and clean up the audio to score process. It's good, but not perfect.
Superior has released a program called drum tracker , it will generate a midi file from an audio drumtrack file. It uses a series of filters to better pick out kik, hats, etc. It's better than Logic's, but Logic's function will still fill the bill (without having to spend extra $$$.
In fact, you can set up a similar EQ filter, to help Logic improve it's recognition of kick, snares, hats, etc. Create a eq for each drum you want to detect. If you were replacing drums all day long, the Superior drum tracker would be a good investment. If you do it only occassionally, stick to Logic's 'audio to score' feature .

  • Melodyne "Audio to Midi" versus Pro "Audio to Score"

Would anyone be able to comment on how these two programs compare? I am looking to use audio (monophonic) recordings of a marimba (percussive, tuned instrument) to create a Score and/or Midi tracks. I understand that there will be editing, but wonder if anyone has the experience to tell whether one program works better; is more accurate; easier to use/edit than the other.
I also do a lot of compositions in 12/8 and 6/4 and wonder about whether I'll run into problems as a result?

    Hi!
I would also like to know!
Also, I found this app. which has recently released an AU mac version, so I'm going to try it out.
    http://www.widisoft.com/english/mp3-midi-products.html
I find Audio to Score a bit hit & miss as far as velocity is concerned- I'm converting live drums to BFD.
And Melodyne...I need the studio version for multitrack drums.... I would like it to be cheaper!
As usual, I find myself going back to Beat Detective to quantise, so if I could find a quantise and convert app.
    ... perfect!

  • I need to upgrade my 10.5.1 os on my G4/1.25 (I'm having some audio-midi setup problems), but it's a machine that is not connected to the internet.  Do I have any options?  Thanks!

    Friends,
I'm having some audio-midi setup problems on my G4/1.25/10.5.1 machine.  I'm thinking that a routine OS upgrade might help.  However, this machine is not connected to the internet.  Are there any alternate methods for upgrading system software?  Thanks in advance!

OK, what you should do is download the updates on another machine and burn them to a disc.  Start at this link http://support.apple.com/downloads/#leopard for downloads and find, among other things, the 10.5.8 combo updater that works on PPC machines, plus security, QuickTime and other updates.  Going from 10.5.1 to 10.5.8, there will probably be a bunch of things that you should install.  Being off the internet with the machine, you can't have Software Update sort it out, so something might get missed, unfortunately.
My suggestion is this: if it looks like you might need a download, get it onto that disc.

  • 'Source play' and 'audio-video sync' problems with PE8 on fast WIN7 64 bit computer

I am transferring Hi8 videos, about 2 hours long, to my WIN7 64 bit computer with PE8.  [Dell Mobile Precision M4400 Computer Workstation (Intel Core 2 Duo T9900 500GB/4GB); NVIDIA Quadro FX 770M, 512MB] I seem to have several problems:
First, after importing the file (.avi), I get a message about ‘dropped frames.’
Secondly, when I try to play the video in the source monitor, the audio plays but the video doesn’t; it only shows the first frame [this is after waiting until the video is ?recognized? ]   I can use the shift-arrow key and see that the video is there.
Thirdly, I can play the .avi file in other players, e.g., avidemux or PE pro CS5 on another computer.  There, I see that the audio and video are not in sync; the audio can be up to 300 ms ahead of the video (as determined using avidemux).
    Questions:
    1.  Why doesn’t the source monitor play the video? Is this a problem with PE8 (latest update as of 3 March 2011) on aWIN7 64 bit computer (intel duo core. 3 GHz).
    2. Is the audio-video sync problem the result of the ‘dropped frames?’ How can PE8 correct this? Avoid this? Or, is it coincidence?

"I think you're telling me you're using a backwards compatible Digital8  camcorder to capture your video as DV-AVIs. Is that right?" YES
"Are you using  Premiere Elements to do this capturing?" YES, AS ABOVE PE8
"Go to the File menu and select Properties. It should show a standard DV codec being used for your video and audio."
WMP v12 is dumb. Under properties, media, it says 'video.'  However, avidemux gave me the information state above: video -- Codec 4CC: dvsd, frame rate: 29.971 fps; audio -- codec: PCM, channels: Stereo, frequency: 48 kHz.
    So, back to the Questions:

New to FCP. Dropped frames when playing section in the timeline w/audio, Viewer plays fine tho. Plays for bout 1 sec with no sound, nothing showing coming through the audio meters. Problem came out the blue, made no conscious changes to settings. FCP 7.0.3. iMac, 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5. OS10.8.4. If any other info needed please let me know, will be happy to provide it. Thanx.

Thank you for the help. Below is my Source footage and sequence settings.
The other footage I have on the timeline is an mp3 file made in Garage Band and some footage I sent to Motion to edit. I do have some offline media on there since I switched computers but FCP had been working fine for a few months with it on there. I have not tried trashing my FCP Preferences. If I did would I have to back up my project?

Yeah, it does make me appreciate Wordpress. I would have
    stuck with it, but
when I found out that you have to pay to edit your CSS (on
    their hosted
plan), I switched back to Blogger!
I'll keep my eye on that beta ("draft") version of Blogger. I
    have to be
cautious with my client's account, but maybe I'll try it for
    my own blogs.
    Thanks again...!

  • Adding snare to 'Audio to Score' kick

    hi list,
first time poster...so i have successfully created a midi file of my drummer's kick and have subbed out with the sample i want via the 'audio to score' feature. now i want to add the snare to the same audio instrument. how do i do that? when i try the audio to score it just pastes the snare part over my kick part.
    help and thank you!!
    andrew

make a midi track right below the kick drum audio track in the arrange page.
Run 'audio to score'... Logic will create a midi track below it. If there isn't a midi track below the kick track, Logic will lay the midi track on top of the audio track, just drag it off.
open the audio to score midi track in the matrix editor. Most likely there will be lots of different pitches, select all notes, and go to transform, and make all midi notes, one pitch, D2. now create an exs instrument, and put your snare in it, and assign to D2 also.
It's easier to open an existing drum kit, and change the audio for the snare. Do that inside of EXS editor. now you'll have a snare that matches the kick exactly. if you want, put a little negative or positive delay on the snare track, to compensate different attack times of the kick and snare.

Asb x-fi xtreme audio console launcher problems on windows 7 32bit'sI recently installed windows 7, because I was tired from Windows XP, but unfortunately after installing all the drivers for my hardware I realized my 5. isn't working quite as expected.
My first problem was, that the Crystalizer didn't work, after installing tons of different software, found on creative labs forums the crystalizer started working.
Then I realized that the CMSS-3D wasn't (and still isn't working). How do I fix that ? I've tried numerous ways but nothing happens, while in windows XP everything worked fine after installing the drivers.
I also miss some configuration options in the Creative Console Launcher, namely the check boxes:
?"Automatically enable headphone settings" and "Automatically mute speakers".
Where the hell did they go?! I use them, I need them. How do I get them back? Is XP somehow privileged than 7? Isn't it supposed to be the opposite?
I also can't change the speaker configuration - it's stays 5. whatever I do, and the drop-down menu with the choices is missing?! Auto-detect option doesn't work, and if it did worked - I don't need it.
