Audio Tracks in Timeline

While working in Final Cut Pro 4, some of my audio tracks in the timeline have a thin colored bar running along the entire top of the clip. Some clips have a lavender/light purple bar, some have a green bar, some have no bar at all. Some clips have a lavendar bar, which then changes to green.
What do these bars mean?! Nowhere in any of the Final Cut Pro manuals or in a third party book I own can I find even a mention of these color bars. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Thanks again for your time and trying to help. I'm sorry if I wasn't clear enough in beginning...it certainly was unintentional and I had no intention of wasting anyone's time.
Anyway, I also posted my dilmma on the LA Final Cut Pro User Group (http://www.lafcpug.org/phorum/read.php?f=1&i=97563&t=97561#reply_97563), and a guy came back with a response that pretty much explains the situation.
The bottom line is that if an audio clip has a different sample rate than the sequence, it will show up with a colored bar at the top of the audio clip. (The one thing that is not clear, however, is why the colored bar is sometimes purple, sometimes green, even in the same clip.)
Sure enough, some of my DV audio that originated from a older Canon XL1 had a bizarre sample rate of 48009.3 Hz. (Video caputred from the same camera also drifts out of synch if captured in blocks larger than 30 minutes. I'm guessing the problems are related.)
Here's a link to the guy's website with information on the issue and how to fix it:
http://www.rippletraining.com/engine/index.php?action=docs&doc=410
Anyway, hope this information is useful.
Thanks again for trying to help me, and again, apologies for any unintentional obfuscation on my part.
Regards,
Bill

  • Invisible audio tracks in timeline

I've been working on a music video, so I've got multiple video clips in my timeline, but I've unlinked them from their original audio files and subsequently deleted the audio tracks they were assigned to. The only audio track I've kept is the original mp3 I am using. This was inserted on the audio track named "Soundtrack". For some reason, this track is no longer visible on my timeline. My Video tracks 1-7 are visible, but no audio tracks whatsoever. I can hear it fine and adjust it in the audio mixer, but I can't see it. Any idea how to get it back?
NB: When I create a new sequence or project, the audio tracks are visible as usual. Just not in the sequence I'm working on. Also, if I add a new video clip with audio attached, I can preview the video and hear the audio, but again- the audio track isn't visible on the timeline. Please help! This is highly annoying...

Are you using PrElements? PrPro does not have a "Soundtrack," but PrE does.
My guess is that you need to scroll up/down in your Timeline, and you will find the phantom Audio Clip(s).
Also, here is the Premiere Elements Forum. Maybe the MODs will move this post to that forum, if you ARE on PrE.
Last, some users of PrE have had problems with both Soundtrack and Narration, the two fixed Audio Tracks. When this happens, I recommend that those Clips get moved to a free, regular Audio Track.
Well, one more: I always convert any MP3 files to PCM/WAV 48KHz 16-bit, before Import. Many MP3 files can cause issues. I use Adobe Audition, but the great, free utility, Audacity, can do this too.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
[Edit] The word "Sequence" indicates PrPro, and NOT PrE, so I was wrong about the program. In either program, look for the scroll bars to the far right of the Timeline Panel, and just scroll.
To control the placement of Audio Assets, one thing to think about is that your source footage will determine which Audio Tracks will be available. The channel-count MUST match. A 1-channel source can ONLY go onto a 1-channel Audio Track. If you have Audio, that you do not want disturbed, just Lock that Track (note: ONLY in PrPro, as PrE does not have Track Locks).

  • Cannot record audio track within timeline

I've opened the audio mixer in PP CS4 and can only successfully record a voice over if I move to outside the end of the timeline. Trying to record on an unused track where there are video tracks above results in nothing-no audio track is created.
    What am i doing wrong?
    Thx.

Once again, thank you to the most gracious advisor in these forums.
    I will second that!

  • Connecting deleted video to audio track in timeline

I have made a narrative using audio, and I deleted the video sections. I want to re-connect the corresponding video to the audio, but cannot find a way to do this.
    Help would be most appreciated!
    Thanks

If I understand you correctly this audio finds its origin in a clip holding both audio and video. And now you are looking for the corresponding video?
If so, select the audio in the timeline. Navigate the pointer over it and press "f". This matches back to the original clip in the viewer. The viewer will open with the Audio Tab selected ("Stereo or Mono", but in the top of the viewer you can select the Video Tab. From there you can edit the video into the timline...

  • Problem inserting audio track into timeline

Sorry, I'm a newbie, and I'm sure this is a dumb question -- but I can't seem to answer it myself.
Working with the latest Windows CS6 update and 1080/60p video from my Panasonic AVCHD camcorder, I find the only way I can move a clip from the Source Monitor to the Timeline is by dragging and dropping.  Any other method (clicking on the "insert" icon, keyboard shortcuts) moves only the video, leaving the audio behind.
What am I doing wrong, or what do I not understand?

Okay, that sent me in the right direction. Now I understand.
    Thank you!

  • Audio tracks no longer showing up on timeline

    Hi,
I've been using Premier Pro for several months now with limited problems but just recently I'm no longer able to get audio tracks to show up on the timeline of my projects. When I go into older projects and import new AVIs, the audio won't show up. If I select an older AVI that was imported before this happened, I can get the audio to show up.
This only seems to happen with AVI files where audio is compressed with mp3. AVIs with WAV audio are working. This is still odd though, b/c the mp3 AVIs were working fine several weeks ago.
    thanks in advance!

I should mention that I've installed some codecs in the last few weeks and perhaps this has caused Premier to stop importing audio tracks from AVIs? Is this a known issue?

  • Audio tracks missing in the timeline viewer

    Hello,
I am using Imovie 4.0.1 and have been working on a project for several months and now towards the homestretch, I have lost the ability to see the audio tracks that I added to the project. I am referring to the 2nd and 3rd tracks on the timeline viewer. This isn't a killer as I have completed all of my editing and am ready to export it to my camera (to then reimport, seperate audio, and then lock--to make sure audio and video matches up) The problem is that when I export to the camera, the audio comes and goes, and some of the video stutters at times. It seems that this all might be related. Has my imovie become corrupted? All of the projects that I have worked on in the past--that are still on this computer--exhibit the same thing i.e. I can't see the audio tracks and the editing arrows (and other items) have disappeared from underneath the viewing area.
    I would appreciate any help.
    jg

com.apple.imovie3.plist is what you should have found because you are using imovie 4.
And, a new .plist should have been made by imovie when you re-launched it-so that's OK.
Sounds like you have enough HD space...are you sure you are using the Timeline viewer and not the Clip viewer?
The Clip viewer looks like this:
And the Timeline viewer looks like this:
(But these are screen shots from imovie 5 so don't let that confuse you).

  • Audio Tracks Disappear When Zooming on Timeline

It's very strange, but whenever I zoom in on a certain portion of a timeline I'm working on, audio tracks warp, change, duplicate, or disappear altogether. See below for a video:
Does anyone have any idea as to what this could be? Thanks in advance for all and any help!

It's actually a feature film I've been working on for quite a while – most likely several CC versions back, maybe even from CS6 – sorry I can't remember off the top of my head. Could that be what's causing it? Is there any fix? Or do projects that have been upgraded several time throughout CC update history always have this issue?
Thanks in advance for your help!

  • Audio tracks don't show up properly on sequence when enlarging timeline

On the timeline, audio tracks don't show up properly, by either appearing out of sync or by repeating itself when I enlarge it to work on it. Other sequences in the project work fine, and I've tried coping a pasting this sequence or parts of it to a new one and I still have the problem. Attached below is an example of the problem. This sequence is about 40 minutes long.  Thanks for any help. Lucian

Is it the same if you uncheck the rectified audio box?

  • How to make audio track respond to timeline

I'm starting a project and need the ability to control the speed of an audio file playback using the timeline.
There are specific events that happen at certain times in the song, and i need the ability to scrub forward and backward on the timeline, including the audio. is this possible?
I have a mechanism to scrub through the timeline of a symbol, but i can't get it to recognize the audio track.
I use this code on the stage in a "composition ready"
var symDur = sym.getSymbol("timelinePlay").getDuration(); // Get the timeline length of timelinePlay. We'll reference this later in the code. var mySymbol = sym.getSymbol("timelinePlay"); // Get the symbol timelinePlay. We'll reference this later in the code. var scrubber = sym.$("scrubber"); // Touch this to scrub the timeline of timelinePlay var bar = sym.$("bar"); // Bar the scrubber follows sym.$("mobileHit").hide(); // Added an extra invisible div to increase the hit region for mobile (hard to grab otherwise) var dragme = false; // Set the initial dragme function to false // Detect if mobile device, and if so swap out mouse events for touch events. This is pretty much duplicated code with touch events swapped. if (/Android|webOS|iPhone|iPad|iPod|BlackBerry/i.test(navigator.userAgent)) {     sym.$("mobileHit").show(); // Show the extra invisible div to increase the hit region for mobile (hard to grab otherwise)     $(function () {         scrubber.bind("touchstart", function (e) { // Enable the scrubber on touchstart             e.preventDefault(); // Cancels the default action of the mobile device - used to ensure our touch events are fired             dragme = true;         });         scrubber.bind("touchend", function () { // Disable the scrubber on touchend             e.preventDefault();             dragme = false;         });         scrubber.bind("touchmove", function (e) { // Make the magic happen on touchmove             if (dragme) {                 var touch = e.originalEvent.touches[0];                 var possibleX = touch.pageX;                 var leftX = bar.offset().left;                 var rightX = (leftX + bar.width()) - scrubber.width();                 var scrubWidth = rightX - leftX;   // Confine the scrubber to the width of the bar                 if (possibleX < leftX) {                     possibleX = leftX;                 }                 if (possibleX > rightX) {                     possibleX = rightX;                 }                 scrubber.offset({                     left: possibleX                 });                 var relativeX = possibleX - leftX;                 var stopTimeline = Math.ceil((relativeX / scrubWidth) * symDur); // Make the scrubber scrub the timeline length of timelinePlay                 mySymbol.stop(stopTimeline); // Stop the timeline of timelinePlay when the scrubber is released             }         });     }) } else $(function () {     scrubber.mousedown(function () { // Enable the scrubber on mousedown         dragme = true     })     $(document).mouseup(function () { // Disable the scrubber on mouseup         dragme = false     })     $(document).mousemove(function (e) { // Make the magic happen on mousemove         if (dragme) {             var possibleX = e.pageX;             var leftX = bar.offset().left;             var rightX = (leftX + bar.width()) - scrubber.width();             var scrubWidth = rightX - leftX;             // Confine the scrubber to the width of the bar             if (possibleX < leftX) {                 possibleX = leftX;             }             if (possibleX > rightX) {                 possibleX = rightX;             }             scrubber.offset({                 left: possibleX             });             var relativeX = possibleX - leftX;             var stopTimeline = Math.ceil((relativeX / scrubWidth) * symDur); // Make the scrubber scrub the timeline length of timelinePlay             mySymbol.stop(stopTimeline); // Stop the timeline of timelinePlay when the scrubber is released         }     }) })
and have an group called 'scrubber' that contains a div called 'dot' and a box called 'mobileHit.' There's a horizontal bar that's not included in the 'scrubber' div (representation of a timeline) called 'bar' on top of which the 'scrubber' sits.
the whole contraption controls a symbol called "timelinePlay"
If there's any way to get the audio included in the timeline and give me the ability to scrub through the timeline /and/ audio, (imagine manually fast forwarding and rewinding a VHS tape) that would be wonderful!!!

    anybody?

  • How to reset the feature that allows audio and video tracks to snap to other tracks on timeline

I have somehow disabled the feature that allows you to drag and snap video and audio tracks on the timeline to other tracks or positions of import.  It is only one project that has been affected, and all I can think of is that while performing some other keyboard shortcut, I accidentally perfromed a shortcut that diabled this feature.

You mean, "Snap?" Press 'S' on the keyboard, or press the magnet button in the Timeline panel.

  • Timeline shows no name of audio tracks

I just switched from Premiere Elements to Pro and have some problems ...
One of the biggest: In the Timeleline Pro isn't showing any names on the audio tracks!
Meaning in the video track I see something like "example.mp4 [V]" and in the corresponding audio track I see just the "fx" icon.
I expanded view and zoom and tracks and everything, unlocked the audio-video-nesting - nevertheless there is no name in the audio tracks to be seen!
Because of this I get confusued which audio track belong to which video, so it's really important for me to get this names in the Timeline!
    Thanks in advance!

    WON-DER-FUL !!!!!
Thanks a thousand time – as easy as it is if you know it, as much I couldn't find it
Thanks again, you helped me a lot with that!!!

  • No audio track anymore in final cut pro timeline

    Hi everyone,
God I feel dumb but somehow i shut off audio tracks in my final cut pro.  I can see the previous ones down that I laid.  But if I try to bring anymore clips into the viewer and then slide them down to the time line there is no audio that comes with it anymore.  What button do I click to allow audio to pull down with the video on to the timeline.  Weird.

Make sure you have the audio tracks targeted by using the patch panel at the left of the Timeline.  Also make sure that the tracks aren't locked.

  • Trouble with Premiere timeline moving up and down multiple audio tracks.

I have a project that has multiple audio tracks, aver 40. Only a portion of them are visible even when I use the new side scroll, I don't know the official name but the scroll on the side that Increases or decrease the size of the track so you can see the waveform. Even when I hide the video tracks and the other preview panels I still can't see all my audio tracks. How do I scroll up and down so I can see the tracks that I want to work on. You know, like in every other program I have ever used.

I feel like there's a bit of egg on my face. Rereading your message and messing with the horizontal bar I realized for both horizontal and vertical bars I grab in the center and drag left or right, up or down. There's a short cut for scrolling up and down your timeline tracks, hold down ctrl/cmd and then use the scroll wheel on your mouse, and that's what I was doing for my project last night. Ah growing pains of learning a new workspace.

  • Video clip goes to different Timeline Video/Audio tracks

    Premiere Pro CS5
When I move a clip to Timeline Video Track 1 the audio goes to Audio Track 4.
    What might be happening?
I recorded the clip with Sony HDR CX560V
And I chose sequence preset AVCHD 1080i30 (60i)  (I did this because Sony PMB shows the clip with a frame rate of 60i)

    Thank you guys!!!
One other question.  If I add background music to my clip does it matter if it's stereo and falls into a lower track?  That is:
clip video = video track 1
clip audio = audio track 4
    music = audio track 1
(By the way Ann, the guy on the link you sent me is awesome.  Very clear explanation and right to the point.)
