Audio tracks move around by themselves after I render!

I've been using keyframes to alter the volume of audio tracks. When I render the audio, I find that either the track itself I'm working on - or totally unrelated tracks - gets chopped up and in the wrong order, as if somebody had "cut and pasted" different parts of the clip and dumped them down in the wrong place!
This is extremely irritating and has all the signs of a bug. Is that the case, or am I doing something wrong?
Please help as I have a tight deadline and was not expecting something so crazy to happen via simple volume editing!
Thanks.
p.s. why can't I choose Final Cut Express on the product list?

You really need to provide the info that Mr. Wolsky requested to get a good answer.
Certainly the difference is sampling rate is a problem, but to advise you correctly more information is needed - to make sure you are using video with a codec and frame rate that is appropriate for FCE.
If you are using video directly from a DSLR,, for example, in H.264 at 24fps, then you have additional problems that can cause the symptoms you are reporting.
If it is to much info for you to type, then select a source clip in the browser and type Command+9, then take a screen shot of the item properties and post the screen shot here.
Do the same with your sequence.

  • MPEG2 Playback Component and multi-audio track movies

    Hello,
I have a MPEG2 movie that has 2 audio tracks.
One is the original voice (french) and the second
    track is overd-dubbed (german).
Is there a way to chosse which audio-track should be
played with the movie within QT and MPEG2 component ?
So far QT plays only the original voice !

Since you already have the MPEG-2 Playback Component you may get the desired results using the free MPEG Streamclip app:
    http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html
Use it to extract the video and your desired audio track and combine them into a new file.

  • Watching multiple audio track movies on Apple TV. PLEASE HELP...

Hi, I hope somebody can help since I haven't been able to find any answer to this.
When I rip a movie (with Handbrake) from one of my DVDs to place it into my iTunes library, I have the possibility to chose to extract different Audio Language Tracks. In fact, once the rip is done, I have a movie in iTunes that has two tracks (2 languages) in my case English and Spanish.
Now, when I sync it to AppleTV, I always can only watch the movie in english. I don't want to lose the english track, but I do want to watch the movie in Spanish on my ATV.
Is there a way to chose the Audio for multiple track movies on ATV? (ITunes does let you chose).
    Thanks for the help.

Because it wasn't devised with you ripping DVDs in mind, and certainly since Take 2.0 update the focus is on rentals.
It would be logical to offer multiple soundtracks/subtitles etc, but they would add to download size which will be an issue for some people - seems more likely they would offer soundtrack options other than Englisg outside US - ie choose English or another language to rent but not both.

  • HT1657 rented movie audio stopped at around 30 minutes!

the audio on movies i rent stops after about 20-30 min of watching? the video continues.. it happens during dowmload and after it is complete..anyone have a clue?

    Hello rockdoggy,
It sounds like you are renting movies and the audio will stop about 30 minutes in. I recommend the troubleshooting for Windows 7 in the following article:

Also, if you have not been able to finish watching a rental because of this issue, I would also report an issue to our iTunes Support team directly:

  • How can I use ALL audio tracks in multiclip editing?

I want to be able to use all audio tracks after the multiclip cut.
It's only a two camera shoot, but I want to be able to use the ambient room sound from the second camera ... and control its level (in relation to the master audio track on the first camera) AFTER the cuts are made.
Is this possible in multiclip editing? And how does one go about it?
Apologies. I've spent an hour or so in the manual, and it isn't clear ... or I'm just not finding the right reference.
    All ears,
    Ben

Sorry if I'm steering you down a path you don't want to go or even if there's a better way but I wouldn't be ding complex audio mixing anywhere near the multiclip interface. Export your reference movie or nest the multiclip project into another sequence, bring in your additional tracks, get to work. Just my preferences, I put a bunch of rough keyframes in the audio tracks and enter some markers (and make a lot of paper notes). Then I go back using the large mixer window to do the fine tweaking.
Stick around for a couple of days, some other multiclip users with more experience than I will offer some more useful suggestions.

  • Please help.  My audio track is too low after exporting movie made with Premiere Pro to YouTube.

Hello.  My crew and I recently completed post-production on an  independent film.  We used Adobe Premiere Pro 5.0 for video and audio  editing.  We had a very low budget for production, so we didn't have the best audio equipment to record sound with.  So in editing, we had to do quite a bit of sound mixing to minimize background/ambient noise and interferences/distortions caused by large electrical appliances in some indoor scenes, such as taverns and cafes.  We managed to clean up the audio, and the audio ultimately sounded great.  However, when we exported the film to YouTube, the entire audio track sounded low.  To hear the film at an adequate level on YouTube, the volume has to be turned all  the way up.  I'm wondering what can be done to export the film to YouTube and maintain strong, optimal audio volume/quality.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you and take care.

As Jeff of Safeharbor noted, you really need to check the audio meters in Prpro with your "final" project. I found that I could have a sound level that played fine on my computer, but ... on exporting to a DVD ... was way low and required a very high setting on any other computer or a tv to be able to hear. I hadn't actually looked at the audio meters. On checking them ... yeah, the peak was down about -18, the main content of the talking-heads was below that. After raising it with PrPro's audio tools, the sound was fine.
I'd bet your sound is showing low on the meters ...

  • Dead audio tracks generated after subclip created

I've had some issues relating to audio tracks in Premiere Pro CC. I'm currently editing a collection of shorts, shot on Red Epic at 5k, with a stereo guide track recorded to camera. After syncing the audio (4 channels), I removed the guide tracks then subclipped the vision and audio by selecting both, grouping them and then dragging them into a bin in the project window. Here's where it gets tricky.
When I place the new subclips on the timeline they suddenly have around 16 tracks of audio. So one track of sound, followed by 3-4 dead tracks with no sound, then 1 track of audio followed again by another 3-4 tracks of dead air (and so forth). At first I just saw this as a minor nuisance and continued to edit. Once finished I exported OMFs for the sound mixer who brought it into protools. What was a 16 track timeline in premiere has now become a 64 track project in pro tools. It seems again, each actual track of audio has had around 4 dead tracks added to it. Sure the math may be a little off but you get the gist. The issue is on Premiere's end as I've tried a couple of times now to resync the audio, create a subclip but every time it seems to generate a whole bunch of dead audio channels. Really can't figure this one out. Please help.
    Working on a brand new iMac, OSX 10.8.4, 3.4GHz Intel Core i7, 16 GB DDR3, GTX 680MX

This exact same thing is happening to me. This "feature" is exponentially duplicating empty tracks. Clearly this is a bug in the code designed to break merged stereo tracks out into individual mono tracks. These are not empty stereo tracks. They are recorded as mono tracks with audio in them but being "split" into multiple tracks, one with audio and the rest are blank. The problem is that Premiere is treating ALL tracks as stereo and creating a number of new, empty tracks for EACH track equal to the total number of tracks when you use the Merge Clip feature.
i.e. If I have 3 tracks of audio that I merge into a clip, it creates 3 tracks for each of those three tracks, resulting in 9 total tracks (3 with audio and 6 empty ones). 4 tracks in a merged clip creates 16 tracks, 5 tracks creates 25, etc.
I have tested this with stereo and mono tracks in a merged clip and the results are the same. I got interesting results when I merged stereo and mono tracks into the same clip. I had a single stereo track and 5 mono tracks. "Merge clip" turned this into 27 tracks. 5x5 mono tracks plus the original stereo track that was split into 2 mono tracks, making 27.
    HOWEVER
This phenomenon has not occurred on every single clip in the film I am currently working on; rather, it has only occurred on most of them.
Specifically, this only seems to be occurring when merging clips including multi-track .wav files. There were a few scenes where the sound guy only recorded the two actors with lavs onto a single stereo track, with the actors split between the L and R channel. When the stereo track is merged it correctly makes two mono tracks out of the L and R channels. But every single clip I have come across since then where he also added the boom mike or a channel for a third actor, I get exponential track city.
The conclusion I have come to is that Premiere is recognizing these multi-track .wav files as separate mono tracks when you drop them on the timeline, but the "Merge Clip" feature is mistakenly reading each track in a multi-track .wav files as a "single multi-channel track" that needs to be broken up. I say "single multi-channel-track" because there isn't a word for it that I am aware of. A single track with two channels is called "stereo" but it is like Premiere is reading the four mono tracks as a single track with four channels, but then making it worse by thinking EACH track has a number of channels equal to the number of "channels" it thinks are in the track.
So again, it reads each track in a four track clip as a single track with four channels, then breaks each "channel" into four separate tracks, thus creating the exponential increase in the number of empty tracks. (3 tracks become 9, 4 becomes 16, 5 becomes 25, etc).
Going into "Modify -> Audio Channels" is a lame workaround because I shouldn't have to painstakingly go through every clip in a movie just to manually turn off tracks that shouldn't exist. Presets, as suggested, are only somewhat useful because the positions of the real audio isn't always placed on the same tracks. Their location is also dependent on the number of tracks being created. When four tracks are merged, the audio is located on tracks 1,6,11, 16 while the audio for 5 merged tracks is on 1, 7, 13, 19, & 25, with 6 tracks it is placed on 1, 8, 15, 22, 29, & 36. So the only way for me to know which tracks to suppress on any given clip is for me to open up the clip and visually determine how many actual tracks there are and which ones to delete. This is crazy. To go back and fix this after I've synced everything will probably take me days of work. If I had known about this before I synced everything it wouldn't have been as hard to determine how many tracks each clip had as I synced it. But I shouldn't have had to in the first place. This shouldn't be happening.
This is not a feature, it is a bug. Period.
Clearly, this could not have been intentionally designed, but it is a serious and crippling error in the way the program is interpreting the tracks with the code that was intended to just break out stereo channels into mono. Perhaps it is a miscue between the way the recording device encodes the multi-track .wav file and the way Premiere reads it. I don't know. I do know that the audio I am working with was recorded on two separate professional recording devices by two different pro sound guys in Hollywood so this isn't some amateur mistake. It is easily doubling the amount of work I have to do with my footage/audio before I can start to work with it.
Somebody needs to take another look at that code and fix this as soon as possible.
(Does this make any sense or do I need to clean this up for clarification?)

    Hi Brian,
Thanks restoring and restarting didn't fix my problem - i have started it fresh and still it doesn't work. Basically I press ONCE on the remote, after the machine has not had any commands for 10 minutes, and the cursor skips from one end of the menu to the other - so I can't choose network or update software etc - I sometimes manage to stop it randomly in the middle of the menu if I press on a command in the middle of the cursor skipping all the menu steps...not sure what the problem is but I have basically not used my brand new apple tv since I bought it for that reason! I should call Apple support I suppose! grrrr hate wasting time with stuff like this!
    Thanks for your help though!

  • [Pre Ele 9] Audio tracks in project are frozen. Unable to move, edit, or even select.

    Hello,
This is my first project using Premiere. Great program, when you know what you're doing. Right now, I'm on a modest laptop, Vista 32-bit, 2 gigs of RAM, Dual CPU @ 2.00 ghz. My project consists of .wma files, some .mp3's, .wav's, and some .jpgs. It's a small project, only ten minutes, about 20 clips, some 20 cuts.
I don't know exactly what happened. I was trying to move all my audio files I had to close this gap I made. But I think I clicked group, or link or something by mistake, and now, two of my audio tracks are literally unresponsive. They play perfectly for the preview, but I can't move them. I can't even select them. Right clicking the sound track does nothing. Even weirder is that my Audio 1 track is normal. It's just my narration and soundtrack tracks that are causing problems. I've researched online, and I heard about them being "locked" or "disabled", or something with Keyframes. But I don't think that's it. Or maybe I need more of a noob's guide. I turned on track size and saw the waveform for my audio. It's there, but it's dimmer than my Audio 1 waveform. Also, I tried Render and Replace, but that didn't work. Lastly, whenever I try adding a new audio file in any of the two audio  tracks, the program basically ignores it and places it in Audio 1 or  even creates a new audio track.
I know I did something so simple, I know I just need to uncheck this tiny little option. Maybe some of you are even chuckling. But please, help me. End this torment.
If you need more information, let me know.
    Thank you for your consideration.

I agree with Neale on this one. The Narration and Soundtrack are "fixed" Audio Tracks, and have at least one property, that other Audio Tracks do not have - they cannot be Deleted. Usually, they work just fine, as their names indicate, but then sometimes, they just refuse to work properly. Why? I have never seen a common element, when they just sort of freeze up, or refuse to mix-down their Clips.
Because this behavior has struck several, most of us just recommend NOT using either, and instead, just using an empty regular Audio Track. I cannot recall an instance, when that proceeure did not work. This behavior has been around since about PrE4.0, by my readings, but may have happened to even earlier versions. There is just something in the structure of those two Audio Tracks, that gets "out of alignment," either with certain operations, or perhaps certain Assets.
On the note of "certain Assets," do you happen to have any MP3's on either of those Tracks? They can cause no end to problems, and not just on those two fixed Audio Tracks. If you do have MP3's, take a look at this ARTICLE.
    Good luck,

I'm not sure I follow your words Fuzzynormal. You've helped by offering the insight that my issue in Logic Pro 9 is not a bug but a feature. But fell short of enlightenment by being a judge of character and of how one should interact in this forum. You insinuate that I haven't tried to solve the issue on my own when in fact I have. These forums are always my last resort. You further suggest that I am complaining. This is not a complaint. It is a genuine issue that I cannot figure out. Then you think that Brazeca is holding my hand and being a nice guy. Brazeca is helping people like me who might not be as adept at using Logic Pro as probably you are. This community forum was established to raise questions, answers and dicussion to help Apple's customers better undertand their operating systems and related issues. You are doing a disservice by not contributing positively and by trying to make this forum what you want it to be. You may have all the time in the world to try figuring out stuff but we are not all like you. We all have different schedules and different levels of understanding. And that is what this forum is for - to help people move forward. If you can't contribute positively then keep silent. And by the way, you say to "read the words that are printed down to explain to you how that works" what words are you talking about? Why don't you be of some help instead of trying to own this forum.

  • Audio tracks are lost after importing from iMovie...

After importing my movie from iMovie I lost my audio tracks. What is the problem ?

    Hello kropacd (and Karsten;)):
I realize at this late time that this will be a pain..but you might want to try to extract your audio prior to exporting (sharing) to iDVD to se if that helps...
The only other thing I can imagine is that you used 12-bit audio in your video instead of 16-bit? It really needs to be 16-bit-check the setting on your camera.

  • How to disable the audio track in QT Pro Movie Recording

I have a device that allows me to record DVI video (1900x1200 uncompressed) into QuickTime Pro through the Movie Recording function. It all works very well except I am trying to record video only (it's the video output of a medical device, so there is no sound). In QT pro preferences, the choices for audio input are "automatic", built-in microphone", or "line-in". I need the choice of "none" (at these files sizes I need all of the CPU's resources working on the video to improve continuity and frame rate). Does anyone know of a script to disable the audio recording portion, or how I might write one? I have never written script before, but that won't stop me from trying to learn how (or rather, launching into a prolonged period of trial and error).
I am also going to approach this by nagging the video device manufacturer, but they are more Windows- centric (they do support Mac OS X and some Linux platform so all hope is not lost). However, it would be easier if I could have more control over my own destiny, and Mac folk seem to be much more helpful.
Thanks in advance to anyone who may be able to help.

First, thanks for the quick reply.
Setting the audio option to line-in with nothing plugged in yields the same results. The device (which is essentially a continuous frame grabber) doesn't have any audio feed at all, and I think that is what is confusing QuickTime. The file I record generates one video track and several sequential audio tracks that start at roughly every 4 seconds. The movie info say that these are Big Endian Stereo L&R tracks, and that have virtually no file size to speak of. Audibly there is nothing. However, the constant "start over" with the audio is causing 2-3 second skips in the video. When the video is recording contiguously, the frame rates are on the order of 15 to 20 fps, which at 1900x1200 is fantastic for what I am doing (software training video of a Linux-based medical device; nothing cool like Snapz available for this beast).
By the way, I have tried Hack TV Carbon, hTV 0.2 and QT Broadcaster, all which will recognize the device as an input source, but not choose it. These would let me deselect the audio input. As mentioned, I am prodding the device manufacturer for help, too, so maybe they will come up with something to address this.
The other thing is that this device creates a video stream that is transferred by USB2. If it was a Firewire device, I would be all over this with iMovie HD or a HD Video recorder, and just be done with it. Apple may have to come up with some universal driver to accept USB video in since they have dropped FW on some of the new models, but this frame grabber isn't on the list as of now.
No real solution I can find to convert USB to Firewire.
Anyway, I am hoping that somehow I could get into the QT script and just disable the audio recording, like the old "save as Un-editable" script would pullout the "save" function of the QuickTime action.
Of course, dumping the audio tracks after the fact doesn't fix the video; once it's chopped up coming in...
I suspect that the real answer to this issue lies with the frame grabber manufacturer. But, I am still hopeful that the QuickTime Script writers out there (or the Terminal folks) may have something up their sleeves.
    Thanks for noticin' me.

  • Movies - Multiple audio tracks strange problem

    This is a strange problem.
I have a .mov with 2 audio tracks. One italian (the first and active) and one english. The movie is compatible with ATV.
Using QuickTime Pro I can choose the language while watching the movie.
Using iTunes I see the movie with the first language selected on preferences (cmd+j on QuicTime Pro).
On ATV the same movie plays just English, the second language, and this is quite strange.
Does anyone have the same problem?
    Greetings
      Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Hmm, I don't really know. I have converted the DVD with 128 kbps for the two audio traks (stereo).Sounds like I need to go back and run additional tests. For my first attempt, I used two stereo tracks -- each 128 Kbps @ 44.1 KHz. For latest test used two mono tracks with the first 64 Kbps @ 44.1 KHz (keyed to English) and the second 32 Kbps @ 32 KHz (keyed to Italian).
I create a m4v video, I open with QuickTime Pro and work on the preferences for audio traks, than I save with mov extension.Had assumed we were both using similar strategies to create alternate audio movies here. Basically I create the movie with two audio tracks and then open the "Properties" window, select the first audio track (which is already set for English), set the alternate audio track pop-up for Audio Track 2, select the second audio track, set the language pop-up to Italian for this one, and use the Save As... menu option to create a Fast Sart, Standalone movie in the MOV container.
In this way I have a perfect double-language movie that, as I told, works perfectly on QuickTime and iTunes.Did have one question though. When you say you have a "perfect double-language movie that ... works perfect on QuickTime and iTunes," are you saying you can change the language in iTunes while the movie is playing? While I have no problem changing language using the "Choose language" menu command in the QT player, I have yet to be able to find a way to do this while playing in iTunes.
UPDATE: to temporally solve the problem I have changed the infos on movie properties. Calling the English audio track "Holland" (or any other language that is listed after Italian) I have solved the problem. On Tv, iTunes and Quicktime I can hear the "default" language (italian) and, just changing again the properties, I cand hear the second language.I think we are doing the same thing only I did not bother/have to use and additial language setting to get this to work.
In this case Audio Track 2 (Italian) is the default.
In this case Audio Track 1 (English) is the default.
Thus, for my test, I created two separate movies with each defaulted differently and played them back in each program/device to see which audio track played. In each case it was the "checked" default audio track and changing the "Language" setting for TV to Italian had no effect.
