Audio Tracks :: Stubborn Placement

I have the video's audio in Audio 1.  I am trying to drag a sound file out of the project box into "Audio 2" in the timeline, and instead it wants to overwrite or overlay the wav file over Audio 1.  I tried holding ctrl, but that just put it in Audio one and split the audio and video in half.
How do I put the audio clip into Audio 2, beneath Audio 1 in the timeline view?  I want to manage both audio clips separately and not merge them.
Adobe Premiere Pro CS4

To tell how an Audio Track is defined, look in the Audio Track Header. There will be a single "speaker" icon for mono, a double "speaker" icon for stereo and a "5.1" icon for DD 5.1 SS Audio.
If you do not have the proper Audio Track available, you can do one of two things: create the necessary Audio Track (per Curt's suggestion), or just drag your Clip below the Master Audio Track, and the necessary Audio Track type will be created for you.
Good luck, and glad that you got it sorted,

  • All of a sudden I have no audio tracks when I place a clip in the sequence.  What did I do?

In Adobe Prem Pro, I'm finishing a short film.  All, of a sudden I am bringing over one last clip, and I can't get an audio track.  So, if I select a clip and drag it over, only the video shows up.  What did I do? How can I fix it?
    Thanks!!!

My guess is that you accidentally clicked off the highlighted "A1" in the image below.
If neither A1 or V1 is in those boxes you can drag and drop. If you do that, the A1 and V1 will show up. However, if only one of them is there, then you will only be able to drop the video or the audio depending on which one is there.
Make sure that yours look like mine. If necessary, reset your workspace.

  • [Pre Ele 9] Audio tracks in project are frozen. Unable to move, edit, or even select.

    Hello,
This is my first project using Premiere. Great program, when you know what you're doing. Right now, I'm on a modest laptop, Vista 32-bit, 2 gigs of RAM, Dual CPU @ 2.00 ghz. My project consists of .wma files, some .mp3's, .wav's, and some .jpgs. It's a small project, only ten minutes, about 20 clips, some 20 cuts.
I don't know exactly what happened. I was trying to move all my audio files I had to close this gap I made. But I think I clicked group, or link or something by mistake, and now, two of my audio tracks are literally unresponsive. They play perfectly for the preview, but I can't move them. I can't even select them. Right clicking the sound track does nothing. Even weirder is that my Audio 1 track is normal. It's just my narration and soundtrack tracks that are causing problems. I've researched online, and I heard about them being "locked" or "disabled", or something with Keyframes. But I don't think that's it. Or maybe I need more of a noob's guide. I turned on track size and saw the waveform for my audio. It's there, but it's dimmer than my Audio 1 waveform. Also, I tried Render and Replace, but that didn't work. Lastly, whenever I try adding a new audio file in any of the two audio  tracks, the program basically ignores it and places it in Audio 1 or  even creates a new audio track.
I know I did something so simple, I know I just need to uncheck this tiny little option. Maybe some of you are even chuckling. But please, help me. End this torment.
If you need more information, let me know.
    Thank you for your consideration.

I agree with Neale on this one. The Narration and Soundtrack are "fixed" Audio Tracks, and have at least one property, that other Audio Tracks do not have - they cannot be Deleted. Usually, they work just fine, as their names indicate, but then sometimes, they just refuse to work properly. Why? I have never seen a common element, when they just sort of freeze up, or refuse to mix-down their Clips.
Because this behavior has struck several, most of us just recommend NOT using either, and instead, just using an empty regular Audio Track. I cannot recall an instance, when that proceeure did not work. This behavior has been around since about PrE4.0, by my readings, but may have happened to even earlier versions. There is just something in the structure of those two Audio Tracks, that gets "out of alignment," either with certain operations, or perhaps certain Assets.
On the note of "certain Assets," do you happen to have any MP3's on either of those Tracks? They can cause no end to problems, and not just on those two fixed Audio Tracks. If you do have MP3's, take a look at this ARTICLE.
    Good luck,

  • Does anyone know how to separate a movie track from an audio track on the new Mavericks Garage band. It used to be very easy on the iLife 11 version. If anyone could respond ASAP I'd be grateful. I need to make an audio file from a video.

I urgently need to make some audio tracks from videos using the new 2013 GarageBand. In iLife11 Garageband, this was very easy. However, I cannot see how to do it in the new one. The alternative might be to revert to the iLife11 version, so does anyone know how to do this. It's extremely urgent since I need to produce these for a court custody hearing which will take place at 0800 GMT UK time on 31st October 2013. Please help.
    Thank you.

When you drag a movie from the Media Browser to the Time lIne in GarageBand, you will see a pop-up "Extracting Audio".
The Movie and the audio file will appear in separate tracks. You can copy the audio region from the sound track to a different track to keep it safe and then hide the Movie track.

  • Global changes on an audio track or between in and out

I've come over from Avid and on Avid I could set an in an out point on an audio track and then changes the values of volume and pan which would then be changed between the in and out points.  I'm editing an interview and the radio mic channel has flipped over to one side and I want it in the middle and cannot get it to stay there.    I know that I can "write" in the audio mixer and just hold it there for hours, but I'm assuming there is a simpler way.  I know about paste attributes but it's not clear what I'm copying and where I'm pasting those attributes.  It would be far simpler if I could just select the audio track, set it the way I want it and tell it not to change for the duration.  Any ideas?
    Thanks

At the lower left of the timeline, there's a button that looks sort of like an upside down V. Click it- the clip overlays. You'll see red lines appear on your audio tracks. Grab the pen tool. Using it, you can click on the red rubber band lines to place key frames where you want. in your case, click once where you want your audio to begin fading out, then click again where you want the fade to end. On this last point, drag the keyframe all the way down, vertically.
As mentioned earlier, you can do this in the viewer as well - using the pen tool.

  • Audio tracks stop working

This issue has been discussed before in these forums, but since it's happening more frequently, I thought I would see if anyone found a solution.  The issue is that in Premiere 7, when a narration is recorded, any other audio tracks that existed in the timeline before the narration was recorded stop working (soundtrack, audio 1, audio 2).  The narration track still works, though.  This used to happen to maybe one student per class in my video course, but now it's happening to about 3 per class, all on different computers.  A workaround is to add some more audio tracks, and move the clips from the broken tracks to the new ones.  As this can be cumbersome, has anyone found a reason why this happens in the first place, so I can avoid it?  Or has anyone found a better solution?

Are you working on a network?
If so, are your media and project files stored on the individual computers or on the network?
If on a network, you need to contact Adobe Tech Support. This program has some unique configurations and challenges when not installed a standalone PC.

  • Audio Tracks Out of Sync?!

I opened up one of my projects today and started playback and everything was all over the place, out of sync.
the project consists of acoustic guitar, electric guitar and two vocal audio tracks plus a b4 organ track and an ultrabeat drum track.
i shuffled things around to get them back to normal, moving my audio regions around a bit until it sounded right. i ended up messing pretty much everything up so i used the command to move all audio regions to original location.
the drums were still out of sync and off tempo, even. i wondered if i had messed with the tempo and not remembered so i started playing with it trying to get it to match.
i quickly discovered that if i adjust the tempo at all, my audio tracks/ regions fall out of sync again. this makes no sense to me whatsoever, and i'm kind of worried i may have a corrupt project or something.
does anyone know what this may be and how to fix it????? thanks.

X-man is correct. This behavior isn't unique to Logic either.
Let's say your sequence is at 60 BPM. That's 1 beat every second. You record 4 tracks, each with an individual hit of a drum and nothing else:
Track 1: Kick on beat 1 - heard at zero seconds
Track 2: Snare on beat 2 - heard at 1 second
Track 3: Kick on beat 3 - heard at 2 seconds
Track 4: Snare on beat 4 - heard at 3 seconds
Now you change the tempo to 120 BPM. That's 1 beat every 1/2 second. Because you've got these individual sounds recorded on separate tracks, their playback will occur more quickly. In fact, twice as fast:
Track 1: Kick on beat 1 - heard at zero seconds
Track 2: Snare on beat 2 - heard at 1/2 second
Track 3: Kick on beat 3 - heard at 1 second
    Track 4: Snare on beat 4 - heard at 1 1/2 seconds
This is not time compression. Changing the tempo from 60 to 120 simply causes the individual recordings to play back sooner relative to bar 1/beat1. In this case, half as much time elapses between the playback of each sound.
IT'S A WHOLE DIFFERENT STORY if this kick/snare pattern is contained in a single audio recording, because the spacing of the kicks and snares is frozen in time within the recording.
Let's say you record kick/snare/kick/snare as a single piece of audio at 60 BPM...
    a) if the recording is made at bar 1/beat 1, no matter what the tempo of the sequence is changed to at a later time, this recording will be always be 'anchored' at bar 1 beat 1.
    b) if the recording was made at bar 4/beat 1 (that's 4 seconds in from bar 1, beat 1) and then you change the tempo to 120 BPM, the timing of the drum sounds in the recording won't move relative to one another, but what will move is WHEN IN TIME that recording is triggered to play back. In this case, doubling the tempo is going to make that region trigger still play back on bar 4, but you get to bar 4 twice as fast at 120 BPM than you do at 60 BPM!! So the region will play back after 2 seconds have elapsed (from bar 1).
    HOW TO GET AROUND THIS:
There's a key command called "Lock Regions to SMPTE Postion" (do a search for "SMPTE" or "Lock" in the key commands window). When you select regions and apply this command they'll be locked at the time of their original recording. This way you could record tracks that don't all start together, like this:
    XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
                YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
          ZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
...then change the tempo at a later time but NOT have the tempo change affect the position of the regions relative to one another.

  • Audio tracks pop at start of song

    hi,
im usiing g5 dual 2x2.3 ghz. 250gb hard drive, 2.5gb ram with logic 7.2.2 and a digi 002 rack. when i play back my song the audio tracks pop just before the song starts, i dont think its anything to to with the recording because i cut the tracks right up to where the song starts and you still get the pops when there is no recorded sound to be played back!!ive also tried changing buffer sizes etc. i use amplitube 2 as a plugin too. please can someone help as its driving me crazy!!!
    thanks, phill

new zealand, i've toured there a coupla times early in my career as a guitarist/MD. nice place, but like australia the population is to small to support a big music industry. that's way a lot of our talent goes overseas eg: rohan s on this board. nz people were very friendly but a lot of 'em come here because there's little work there.
these days i release my music thru cdbaby hence itunes. it works and is very flattering when people from other countries like and buy your music without all the hype made by record companies.
to tell you the truth, i'm not that into computers at all, what attacted me to post here were some of the other posters who were very hospitible towards me.
my field is really just audio recording in general and music composition/orchestration.
if i had huge money, i'd probably invest in Neves, Studers etc as i still feel they have the drop on digital audio. the most appealing thing to me with a DAW is just the standard non linear editing.
most of my music is hatch in my head and in the old daze i used to write it out long hand.
today, i still don't use instruments to write on, just my brain/ear to score in logic. saves time. playback in logic just helps me to confirm what has been written.
    anyway, mate, cheers. djr.

  • Audio Tracks Mulitplying Like Rabbits...

Whenever I import a stereo track of audio, and then drag it to the audio tracks, it wants to insert that audio over the number of audio tracks available. So, if it's eight tracks, suddenly eight (rather) than two copies of this audio file are inserted. What's happening here?

Hi, thanks for replying. The source of the audio is an .aif file I imported—a :05 sound effect.
I have two audio tracks selected as destination tracks. There are eight tracks in total. When I drag the stereo file to the two destination tracks, all eight tracks get the stereo file. Now, if I try to do this again, the existing eight tracks will double to make sixteen! (That's how I ended up with eight in the first place, placing the stereo track a couple times...)
    What's goin' on?

  • Audio tracks move around by themselves after I render!

I've been using keyframes to alter the volume of audio tracks. When I render the audio, I find that either the track itself I'm working on - or totally unrelated tracks - gets chopped up and in the wrong order, as if somebody had "cut and pasted" different parts of the clip and dumped them down in the wrong place!
This is extremely irritating and has all the signs of a bug. Is that the case, or am I doing something wrong?
Please help as I have a tight deadline and was not expecting something so crazy to happen via simple volume editing!
    Thanks.
p.s. why can't I choose Final Cut Express on the product list?

You really need to provide the info that Mr. Wolsky requested to get a good answer.
Certainly the difference is sampling rate is a problem, but to advise you correctly more information is needed - to make sure you are using video with a codec and frame rate that is appropriate for FCE.
If you are using video directly from a DSLR,, for example, in H.264 at 24fps, then you have additional problems that can cause the symptoms you are reporting.
If it is to much info for you to type, then select a source clip in the browser and type Command+9, then take a screen shot of the item properties and post the screen shot here.
Do the same with your sequence.

  • Need to move an audio track from one mkv to another one

    Hi,
I'm trying to recover some files that were deleted by a customer.
    We have in hand:
    1) High Resolution MKV ( H264 + AC3 ) of a final video product (a couple of header videos about 1:44s have been added to the head).  ~ 1h10m
    2) Low Resolution MKV  ( MP4  + MP3 ) of a final vidoe product but with a different audio track.
Now it was easy enough to extract all of these into their individual components.
So What I really have is:
    1) H.264 1920x1080 video
    2) AC3 of final audio track
    3) Commentary track
Now what the customer wants is to combine these into a single video package (mkv) that has a "director's commentary" track.
I pulled the components into Premier CC but for some reason it can't seem to be able to keep up with the 1920 source video (??? shows a few frames, stops for 30 seconds [audio continues] then another couple of frames of video, etc.. ) so that I can drop in the commentary audio in the right place.
Now this machine is no slough, it's a i7-4820k @ 3.70 GHz, 32GB RAM, SSD drives, win 8.1 64-bit.   I have done a ton of DSLR videos but never a .264 file.
    1) Any idea on why the video isn't keeping up in "Program"? At Full, 1/4 or 1/8?
    2) How do I create the final output with multiple distinct tracks?  [ I've never done that before ]
    Thanks.

How do I create the final output with multiple distinct tracks?
Adobe Suite is the wrong tool for doing this job. You need to mux them in e.g. ffmpeg, using -map option and -itsoffset if audio stream from your low res MKV has different duration.

  • Different audio track - how

Hi, I have been given a video to show children in class. The video has a spanish audio track, but I have also been given a separate mp3 (and vcf file??) with an english audio track. I thought quicktime pro would be able to handle this, but if I open the video, and then drag the mp3 file on top of the video window (worth a try!!), it shifts the video and places the mp3 file before the film. Any ideas how I can remove the spanish audio, get the video to play with the english audio, and then save it with english audio. Thanks. The file is an .avi

    No.

  • Can you freeze the audio tracks in 6.0.3

I have students that are using voice-overs in their projects and every time they move a piece of video all of the audio shifts with the clip. These two pieces - audio and video - were each imported seperately and aligned on the tracks. Is there any way to lock the audio tracks while moving the video?
    Any help is appreciated!

    Hi Tom, and welcome!
Yes, that is very easy: Place the audio clip exactly where you want it, highlight it by clicking on it, go to Advanced menu and click on 'Lock audio clip at playhead'.
Now, if you move or even edit the video clip, the audio clip moves with it.

  • Final cut lost audio tracks lost in quick time

    hello,
I seem to be losing audio tracks when I make a quick time movie from Final cut Hd for making a dvd in IDVD.
    The audio source is ok.
I have up to 12 tracks of audio, but this only happens when it feels like it, the tracks work in different places on the timeline.
    I render audio mixdown.
    Thanks!

    Hi Jeremy,
Your first step would be to delete all the audio render files and re-render and do another audio mixdown. It could be as simple as a corrupt render file. If that doesn't work, post back.

  • Immobile audio tracks?

I've really been trying to give FCPX a chance but this issue may be a deal breaker for me unless someone can tell me of a solution.
Okay...I've got five minutes worth of an exterior building shot. The guy who shot it was doing an extemporaneous narrative as he panned and zoomed around the structure. My chore is to make a pleasing 1-minute or so montage of visuals to go along with the audio edit. Since the audio edit was done first to make the narration cogent and the visuals serving to do nothing more than illustrate the v.o., the audio nor video are no longer synched together whatsoever. What I'm up against is having all these audio clips anchored to unrelated video clips and now I can't move the video around without reordering the audio.
I'm REALLY hating not having an independant audio track right now. I need the audio to stay put while I arrange the pretty pictures. I did make the audio a compund clip and it's now anchored to a video clip that's not going anywhere but that's just nonsense.

Wow. Cool. The continuing magic of the right-click! Having spent my formativetyears with a one=button Macmouse, I'm still getting use to having a right-click capability.
But that begs a question. (that I've posted elsewhere and received no answer so I'm glad for the opportunity to ask again in this context):
Say I want to do this. I right-click and FCP raises and places the video as the connected clip. But now I have to move the audio up. In past lives, one would expect to hold the shift key while elevating the audio to the storyline via click/drag so that it is locked in a vertical axis (as anything would in all other graphic apps) and so that it remains in place relative to the video that was moved up.
However this, from what I can discern, is no longer the case with FCPX. I hold the shift key when dragging something and...nothing. It just moves around willy-nilly. Is there a different key/click combine I  should be using? It seems odd that THIS app would be denied this valued feature.
