Audio Transition Glitches - A Different Approach

I have noticed a lot of users are having problems with the audio noise that sometimes arises when you insert transitions. The Apple workaround is to extract the necessary audio and then uncheck the video sound box in the video/audio timeline viewer as this is where the static is caused.
However, this tends to be annoying if you want to either edit or perhaps add further transitions that cut through video where you have already extracted the audio.
Another option is a workaround that I have used constantly in iMovie 3.03. That is to add a title transition (with nothing in it) that floats over the transition where the sound glitch occurs!
For example
1. In iMovie HD 5.02, cut the clip before the sound glitch using command-T.
2. Add a title effect - I tend to use a subtitle as it is usually what I'm working with, but other effects (like centred) work just as well. CLEAR the contents of the title boxes. Make it long enough to cover the audio problems and apply...
3. You will either get a magnificant solution to your problem (which is especially good as it is an undoable feature by pressing backspace after the clip is highlighted) OR you will get one more sound glitch at the end of the title effect. BUT IF YOU REPEAT THIS PROCESS by adding (and you might as well make the effect as long as possible) title effects throughout the whole project, the amazing thing is that when these effects run together - You get no noise!!!!
Ok, you might get noise if you were unfortunate enough to finish the title effect right on a transition and in this case you obviously need to ensure that you don't do this by varying the length of the transition.
IN SHORT....
1. Ignore the problem until you have finished your project.
2. (Worst case) Add long blank title effects starting at the beginning and continue adding them until you reach the end.
An added advantage is that this beats the endless audio extraction that some of you will otherwise have to do to "fix" this annoying problem.
Anyway I hope this works as well for you as it has done so for me.

I haven't tried this "stitching" (..I extract audio anyway at transitions, so that I can mix more audio into those transitions..), but Lennart has often suggested using 'blank' titles as a means to join clips together when anyone asked if there was a way to merge two clips into one.
Good detective work!
[..Audio 'spikes' are also removable using Sound Studio or other audio editing software..]

  • Audio transition glitch CS6

I've encountered a weird glitch (examples) that happens when I use the constant power, constant gain, or exponential fade transitions between audio files on the same track. This glitch only happens on render, when I playback in the editor it sounds just fine, no issues. However when rendering (H.264/AAC mp4 container) I get that audio issue, I've tried different audio options (bitrate AAC version) and nothing helps. From what I can tell it mostly affects wav files though I've noticed it with other file types as well. I've tried emptying my media cache to force PPro to rebuild, but that doesn't change anything. One thing that's interesting is that once the glitch happens it stays in the same spot and doesn't change if I re-render. Also there's no audio spikes that are interfering with the transition(which would create a similar sounding issue), this is a PPro glitch. The best work around is to drop the trouble spot to the track below and fade there. This eliminates the bug. This is quite annoying and seemingly random. I've only encountered this issue recently, within the last 2-3 months and I've been using the CS6 version of PPro (though not this install) for two years. Any thoughts?
When I first had the issue I Googled around and I think I found someone with the same issue who's using CC, but they didn't include an example so I'm not sure. From my colleagues that I've spoke with no one knows for sure what the issue is.
PremierePro is up to date (version).
    System specs
Also, if I posted in the wrong place or missed something when searching please let me know. Thanks.

This problem still regularly plagues my workflow. I know that Adobe doesn't want to spend the money to actually bug fix these problems on "old" versions of their software, but does anyone have a work around that's more efficient than the one I describe in the original post?
I've got more examples from a recent project a client sent me to edit. It still seems to be random some of the fades in this project is affected and others are not.

  • Creating a Custom Audio Transition

My boss has a client that is not satisfied with the audio fades that FCP comes with. He has created a fade-in and a fade-out that the client is happy with by using audio keyframes to manually control the action. He now needs to apply this to the tips and tails of about 70 different audio tracks. Does anyone know how to create an audio transition such as the cross fades that already are installed with FCP? I'm still pouring through the manuals and this forum but it's been hours and I haven't found anything helpful yet! Thanks for the help

If the levels are even throughout the rest of each clip (except for the fade-ins and fade-outs), do the keyframing on one clip then copy it. Next, select all other clips that you want to apply the fades to and right-click on one and select Paste Attributes. When the window opens, click the button next to Audio-Levels.

  • Audio transitions missing from CS6 for mac

When I go in the effects window and click on the audio transition bin nothing appears.
Are the files there but because of a glitch i cant see them or are the files missing?
I guess I need to get something to fix the glitch if that or where can i find the missing files to download?
Oh and I added Adobe premiere pro CS6 through a download through amazon.com

I have this too and I haven't been able to find any info on the net about this.
I have no audio transitions or effects at all.  Would love to find out how to fix this.

  • Moving Multiple Audio Transitions

This is a big one for me. I'm trying to apply and modify audio transitions to multiple tracks at the same time. First off it appears that I cannot move more than one transition at a time.  Is this true?
If it is it will slow me down a ton. I'm used to Avid's, where I type in the duration and alignment, the adjust accordingly.  I hate using the mouse for this. Is there a way to do it all with the keyboard?

AFAIK, there is no way to do what you want (which is perfectly reasonable, BTW). At least it's not in the FCPX documentation or something I've been able to discover by using every combination of modifier keys I could think of. One at a time seems to be the current limitation.
If anyone knows something different, hopefully they'll chime in.

  • Retrieve nested LDAP groups independent from the network env. (five different approaches)

    Hi all,
I want to retrieve a list of nested LDAP groups per user from the Active Directory. I have been searching google for half a day now, but I'm still not sure what approach to use. I have the following requirements:
    * The script/program must run in different network environments (I can't be sure if there is a global catelog or AD DS or AD LDS, etc). I will write my own program.
    * The membership info will be used in combination with directory ACL's and must be as complete as possible (global groups, universal groups, local groups, perhaps different domains). Distribution groups are not really necessary, because they are not used in
    the directory ACL's.
    * It would be nice to support other LDAP implementations than Active Directory using the same code, but that not a hard requirement. I could use another approach to support a different LDAP.
Now I have figured out five possible approaches (info comes from different sites, please correct me if I'm wrong):
    1) tokengroups attribute:
    - The attribute contains Univeral groups of the forest, global groups from the local domain, domain local groups from the local domain (assuming native mode) and local groups from the local machine.
    - Returns a list of SIDs which will have to be translated to group names
    - The tokenGroups attribute exists on both AD DS and AD LDS
    - For AD DS, the tokenGroups attribute is not present if no GC server is available to evaluate the transitive reverse memberships.
    - quote from site "Now that I have had a chance to test it though I can definitely say that tokenGroups WILL get the Universal groups from the other domains even if is NOT a GC. I just did it in my test lab."
    - Token Groups cannot be retrieved if no Global Catalog is present to retrieve the transitive reverse memberships.
    2) tokenGroupsGlobalAndUniversal
    - A subset of the tokenGroups attribute. Only the global and universal group SIDs are included.
    - If you want consistent results, read tokenGroupsGlobalAndUniversal that will return the same result no matter which DC you are connected to. However, it will not include local groups.
    - other source says "tokenGroups will give you all the security groups this user belongs to, including nested groups and domain users, users, etc tokenGroupsGlobalAndUniversal will include everything from tokenGroups AND distribution groups". Not
sure if this is correct, I think it doesn't contain local groups.
    - The tokenGroupsGlobalAndUniversal attribute exists on AD DS but not on AD LDS.
    3) LDAP_MATCHING_RULE_IN_CHAIN / 1.2.840.113556.1.4.1941
    - Use a recursive search query which returns all nested groups for user at once.
    - Returns all groups except for the primary group
    - It's a fast approach, see performance test from Richard Mueller:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/fr-FR/f238d2b0-a1d7-48e8-8a60-542e7ccfa2e8/recursive-retrieval-of-all-ad-group-memberships-of-a-user?forum=ITCG
    - It only works on Active Directory, not for other LDAP implementations
    4) Recursive retrieval of the memberOf attribute
    - Retrieves all groups except the primary group. (also local groups from other domains??)
    - works for all LDAP implementations
    - executes a lot of queries to the LDAP, especially if you want to scan all users/groups (perhaps limited on OU, but still)
    5) Store memberOf attribute in local database and calculate the nested groups using recursive queries to the local database
    - No heavy load to the LDAP
    - Needs space to store the user/group info locally (embedded Derby database perhaps)
    - Performs fast since the queries are executed locally
    - Works for all LDAP implementations
My thoughts on these different approaches:
    * appreach 1) I understand that the tokengroups attribute is not present if no GC server is available. In how many network environments is this the case? This option won't work because I want to support different network environments.
    * approach 2) The tokenGroupsGlobalAndUniversal attribute exists on AD DS but not on AD LDS. Same here, in how many network environments is this the case? I don't think I can rely on this approach.
    * approach 3) Seems to be a good option. How will it perform compared to approach 5 (local recursive queries)? Won't work for other LDAP implementations
    * approach 4) I don't think I want to execute that many queries to the LDAP. I can limit the scan on OU, but still companies can have thousands of users and groups.
    * approach 5) Perhaps the best approach. I want to store user/group info locally for fast filtering / reporting (only group DNs, user names, databse id's and membership info as id-id pairs). I only need the memberOf attribute of users and groups, recursive
loops are done locally. It will work for all LDAP implementations.
What do you guys think? I'm not a network admin, but a programmer, so I'm no expert in network setups and when to use AD DS or AD LDS. The thing is I want to use this code at different customers without knowing their network setup (except for the domain name(s),
LDAP host/port and bind user to connect to LDAP).
    Thanks a lot!
    Paul

I want to write a tool that can answer questions like "what users from group ABC have delete permission in all the (sub)directories of server MyDataServer?". This results in a list of directories and users and includes nested group membership. So it's about
effective permissions. That's why I want all information in a SQL database so I can answer these questions with a single query in milliseconds. Otherwise, in order to answer these questions, I would have to get all members from group ABC and determine the
nested groups for all these members (which can be thousands) for every report. Using a SQL database I can retrieve this information once a night for all the members.
But I guess I will use the LDAP_MATCHING_RULE_IN_CHAIN syntax which gives me all nested groups for a member and should work for all AD installations from W2K3 SP2 and higher. When I want to support other LDAPs I will use another method for that specific
    LDAP.
Again - note that this question has nothing to do with LDAP or AD.  It just asks what group has permissions on what resources.
I really think you would do well to spend time understanding the NTFS and its security along with how we sue security in Windows.  By assuming this has something to do with AD you are making it a bigger issue than needed.  AD is a repository for
accounts and trusts and manages authentication and security group membership.  All file security is managed by the OS that hosts the files and not by AD.  Users are not normally granted access to resources through direct inclusion in the DACL but
are given access through membership in one or more groups.  Loading AD into a SQLL database will not help you.
    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  • How can i add an audio transition?

Adding an audio transition, basic for an editor, is impossible with fcpx??
Or video, or video and audio or nothing???
I've an interview and i need a 2 frames audio transition to eliminate the distorsion on the cut, the famous "click"...the only way is to do a split cut and to move the audio handles?...i think it's crazy, when on FCP7 was only a right click!!!!

No play around the cut to review the trim, and no possibility to trim going in play!
Match Frame (if it is what you think it is -- try it and let me know) is now called "Reveal in Event Browser" and is available in the "Clip Menu."
I think the shortcut for play-around the edit point is now shift-? (question mark). There are preferences to control the length but they are broken -- it's a known bug.
yeah, the precision editor while pretty seems a bit lacking in practical usage at this point.

    Hi petro_jemes,

  • Audio Transitions not working properly in Final Cut Pro 5.1.4

I am noticing that I can't change the audio transitions on the timeline as I used to be able to do. Now I get a prompt to go to the Browser and select the audio transitions there which is not how I've done it previously. Before, I just clicked on the timeline audio clip, made a transition and then typed the duration of the transition in the Viewer. So, I'm wondering if I should trash the plist for FCP or do something else? The video transitions seem to work fine as they always have.
    Thanks for any help!

Let me explain this better. When I click on an audio clip in the timeline I get this prompt:
No default transition to add. Please set a default transition in the Effects Tab in the Browser before performing this command.
I've never had to do this before, so I wonder if anyone knows why this suddenly is happening?

  • How to create an audio transition

It may be my ears to blame, but I cannot hear any difference whatever, with any of the audio transitions.  Further, I don't see any way to make adjustments in the adjustment panel either... or don't understand how to use it possibly.
To get serious fading I have to resort to the rubberband technique and end up setting 4 keyframs.
Am I just not understanding how to use the supplied audio transitions... should I hear some really noticable change if I use one, or not.
Maybe I need to make my own, but I could use a little help on that.  I'd like to end up with a serious dip in volume as the cursor crosses from one clip to another.
Its a real time sync if you have a lot of clips, to have to set and adjust 4 keyframes at each junction.

    Harry,
It sounds like you want the equivalent of an audio "dip to black"; in other words, you want the outgoing audio to ride from 100% volume down to 0% volume, and then the incoming audio to ride from 0% back to 100% volume. Unfortunately, there is no built-in audio transition that does this--they all function as crossfades with the volume from both audio clips being mixed during the entire duration of the transition.
Thankfully, there's a pretty easy and versatile solution, though it does involve a little setup legwork on your part. When in doubt, roll yer own
Drop an audio clip or a video clip with audio into a sequence, and go to the beginning of the clip.
With the clip selected, create a fade in using two volume keyframes, to the duration you desire. You already mentioned that you know how to rubberband the volume, and that's all you're doing here. You can either set this up in your sequence, or the effects control panel, whichever is easier for you. You can also Control+click the keyframes to turn them into Bezier keyframes, so that you can ease in and out of the keyframes, if you like.
In the effects control panel, under Audio Effects, right-click on the word "Volume", and select "Save Preset". In the dialog that appears, name your preset (i.e. Volume Fade In 1 second), select Anchor to In Point, and add a description if you like. When you hit OK, the preset will be saved in your effects bin under Presets, where you can categorize them later.
With this done, select the keyframes you created and delete them, or toggle the stop watch on and off to remove the keyframes. If you do the latter, you'll need to hit the keyframe button to remove the keyframe that is automatically keyframed.
Repeat steps 2 and 3 above but instead of creating a fade in, create a fade out using the same techniques. Save the preset again using the same procedure, but selected Anchor to Out Point, and change the name to reflect that it's a fade out.
You'll now have two custom fades in your Presets bin. You can select all of your clips that you want to apply the fades to and drag first one preset and then the other onto all of the selected clips. The reason you need to create two presets instead of one is because you probably want to maintain the duration of your fades, and the only way you can do this is to select the "Anchor to" options. If you created a fade in and fade out on one clip and selected Scale, the duration of the fades would be based on the duration of the clip; not likely what you want.
    Hope that helps a bit...

  • Setting audio transitions in to out??

Say I've got 40 audio edit points. Can I apply the default audio transition to every point on my timeline at once...say between my in and out point?
Learned this on Media Composer and it was very handy....just having a hard time finding it on CS6....which I have enjoyed learning.

Select the audio clips, then go to Sequence>Apply Default Transitions to Selection.

  • Audio crossfade appears inactive (grayed out) when adding it to audio transitions

Not sure what I am doing wrong here...
I cannot directly insert audio crossfades into transitions on my audio timeline withought going to the transition point and then clicking sequence > apply audio transition from the main menu. But even then once it is added it appears inactive (grayed out) and I cannot change the lengh or style of the fade...
Another thing that keeps happening is the program keeps crashing. I get the pinwheel of death and I have to restart the program manually. I dont have any other programs open and my computer is quite beefed up so I don't know what is causing this..
    Thanks for your help!

  • "Dip to black" audio transition?

Anyone know where I could find an audio transition that will do basically the same thing as a dip to color video transition? Just need one clips audio to fade out, then the next one fade in.

Actually, if you spent more time with the manuals and software, we might not need to look at this post.
Notice that FCP gives you 2 default audio transitions - crossfades ( +3db, or 0db). Choose 0bd. It's also in the browser under effects, drag it from there. This should give you what you want but it's not ideal by far, needs rendering and avoids keyframing, which is pretty crucial to editing.
If you feel static it's probably because people read posts and wonder how someone can edit a sequence and not know these things.
    Peace

  • Can you use audio transitions if you forgot to add handles??

SO i completely forgot to add handles and i was wondering if you can still SOMEHOW add in audio transitions if you can how do you do it!?? SIGGHHH and also what's the best time limit to have for handles or does it depend on what you want?

As it says in the *FCP User Manual (III-374):*
Clips must have handles if you want to transition between them.
In order to get some handles, you will need to trim your clips. Read the manual section on rolling, it is a very helpful tool to understand.
