Audio via USB displays input level but no sound is heard.

I have a Roland System 1 synth that features audio via USB. I have installed the drivers, and the System 1 is showing up in my menu for system preferences/sound. When I select the System 1 as my input device, play the keys, and adjust the synths volume knob, the input level meter responds accordingly, showing that the Mac is hearing the output of the synth. However, I can not get the sound to come out of the speakers! The Mac's internal speakers are set as my output device, and they are turned up and working fine with all other audio.

I have MIDI working fine in my DAW.
I just can't get any audio to play through USB, which is a feature of the System 1.

All other Audio/system sounds/itunes/etc. can be heard.

I think I have done something wrong. I used my Apogee Jam on a guitar project with several audio tracks in Logic Pro 9. And while the Apogee Jam still was connected, I switched to another project with only instrument tracks (synths). I forgot to change the "Built In Input". After I did this, my guitar sounds like crap when I try to use Apogee Jam in the same guitar project, or also if I create a new project. I use Guitar Rig 5 (Native Instruments) as my guitar plug-in. But the guitar sounds strange even if I don´t assign Guitar Rig.
Can somebody help me?

Audio line-in port - input level shows sound but nothing from speakers

I have a Genus DAB radio attached to the Audio line-in port on my Macbook running Leopard 10.5.3. The input level meter shows sound but nothing is heard through the speakers.
I have tested my headphones and connected the radio up to a PC and all is well, ca anyone suggest a fix for this? (I have seen the same issue elsewhere on this forum with no replies).

I'd like to output digital audio via usb. Can it be done from iTunes? This would allow me to go directly to my dac and then to my preamp.

Russell, there are quite a variety of devices that accept digital audio over USB from any mac with a USB port - see http://www.trendsaudio.com/EN/Product/USBAudiodesc.htm for one example.
Try a google on MAC USB Audio OUTPUT any you should pop up some useful options.

Try downloading the driver directly from Canon's web site.

Sound input fine, but no sound?

I have a Mac Mini 2,0Ghz and have a DVD-player's audio output plugged into the sound input of the Mini (RCA>3,5mm plug). The Mini's sound output is connected to my stereo. I can play iTunes songs without problems. Now I want to listen to an external source.
I look in sound preferences on the Input tab and I see the Input Level bar indicating sound input, I pause the DVD and the bar stops fluctuating, fine so far. I make sure that the output volume is adequate and then I turn on the stereo, but there is no sound. I mak sure that there is sound by checking with iTunes, I can hear the songs.
Do I have to switch over to the Input selection or something to hear the sound from the DVD-player? I come from using Windows and there you'd have to enable the input.
How do I get output from the input?

Audio input has to go to an application. Most applications that use audio input will have a passthrough mode (e.g. QuickTime Pro has a passthrough volume control in its recording window). LineIn is nothing but passthrough.
It's like the keyboard. Nothing happens if you type with no application listening. Whether or not the typing shows on the screen is up to the application (e.g. Terminal will not show anything while you enter a password).

When I start-up my computer it has a Flashing ? in a Folder. I removed the HDD as then plugged it in via USB and it worked, but just won't work with it inside the Macbook.

So, I just had a bit of a hurried train journey, two connections very close together, resulting in my laptop bouncing around a bit inside my bag (in a case). The Macbook was shutdown the entire time, but when I tried to start it up it came up with a flashing folder with a "?" in the middle of it after the start-up "bong".
I proceeded to remove the hard drive to check if it was okay, and it worked fine via USB into my iMac, so I am now running my Macbook Pro from a hard-drive that is completely naked outside of its shell.
What could have gone wrong other than the hard drive, bairng in mind that it is all working perfectly well with the hard-drive plugged in via USB. I was thinking it could be the ribbon cable that connects the hard-drive internally, however I had this replaced not long ago after a previous complete hard-drive failure, but that's a story for another time.
If anyone could help I'd be very appreciative, as my macbook looks ghetto as all **** right now, as I have the hard-drive sellotaped to the left of my trackpad.

If Apple was the one that replaced the ribbon cable, return it. If not, run AHT (Apple Hardware Test).
Using Apple Hardware Test to troubleshoot a hardware problem
Your issues might be caused by a hardware problem. Running Apple Hardware Test can help you solve this problem by showing you the faulty hardware.
Shut down the computer by going to Apple () > Shut Down…
Select Shut Down or allow the computer to shut down automatically.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter into a power source and then connect it to your Mac if you have not already done so.
Press the Power Button to turn on the computer.
Press and hold the D key on the keyboard before the grey starting screen appears.
Continue to hold the D key until the loading screen shows up. You should see a globe.
When AHT has loaded, select your Language and then press the Return (↩) key.
Select the Perform Extended Testing checkbox located under the Test button.
Press the T key, select the Test button, or press the Return (↩) key to start running the diagnostics.
Report any issues it shows in a reply.

Problem: BB 8700g - connected via USB to my PC but not visible on Windows Explorer

when I connect my 8700 g (OS 4.5 / DTM 5.01) to my PC via USB and open the Windows explorer I exspected to see there the device , I don't!!!
I would like to "drag and drop" *.mpg-or *. jpg-files from my PC to the BB device (such as ring tones or photos)
Other smart phones are recognized , I can see them as drive E or F etc, and if I click on e.g. E, I see the contents of E and am thus in a position to transfer the files to the place I want.
So what have I got to do in order to make my device visible and ready for the work I described?

Also, check that you are using only root USB ports...no hubs (sometimes the front-side ports are hubs...use a rear USB port). And make sure to try disabling USB power management in your system configuration (Device Manager).

Finally got Time Machine to work via USB over the network, but...

it is SLOW. I am using AFP sharing and my first backup is going to be 43GB. I left it for 3 hours and it was only at 5GB. At this rate I dont know if I will ever find the time to backup my Macbook. My external is hooked up to my iMac via USB and my MacBook is wireless. I am using WPA security for the wireless network. Does this amount of time sound right? I mean I know it is the first backup, but at this rate it will take 24 hours!

you're doing pretty well. TM backups over a wireless link can be very slow, 1 MB/sec or so and the speed can vary a lot during the span of the backup. There seem to be "hard spots" that really slow things down. These are probably large collections of very small files.
Initial backups should be done via an Ethernet connection to the server.

Logitech USB headphones - microphone works but not sound output

Seems like the sound output to my Logitech USB headphone has stopped. The microphone inputs but the sound output is blocked. Could be technical issue with the set but was wondering of anyone else has this problem after the last update to 10.14.0

Having similar issue with iPad 2. No volume on Apps or Music (except when using headphones). Just started happening after months of no issues. Have reset/ restored with no solution. Can you provide more detail with your solution? I went to >settings>accessibility>voiceover.....but could not find headphones etc... what am I missing. Could you be more specific on what you changed to resolve your issue.

Recieving a signal from my guitar but no sound is heard.

I am new to Mac and Logic 8. I am using my guitar through a USB and it works through Garage Band. I can hear the sound fine. In Logic 8 I can see the signal being generated on screen and the tuner works but I cannot hear any sound. I am currently using the "software instrument" type of track, Unknown USB device input, and output 1,2. I can click and drag a loop into the arrangement and hear the drum loop fine. Does anyone have some advice? Should you always be able to hear the guitar or is it just during play or record? I appreciate any help.

I am using a traditional electric guitar with a cord that goes from the guitar to a USB port. I have opened a new file with a single audio track. I have set the input to the track as Input 1 and output as 1,2. I have highlighted the record (red) button and the input button (orange) and still no sound. It will however let me record and I can see the vibration line across the screen as I play. I stopped the recording and it will act like it is playing it back but no sound still. I checked the headphone jack as well. No sound there either. Any other advise. I appreciate your help. tuner works in this mode as well.

Digital audio via USB no longer works since IOS8

I use the "Lightning to USB Camera Adapter" (ref MD821ZM) to connect my iPhone or the iPad to my Bowers and Wilkins speakers MM-1 USB cable.
This allowed to use the B&W internal DAC.
It has worked fine in IOS 7 and it was a fantastic feature and easy to use.
IOS no longer streams the music digitally to the DAC. it just keeps playing the music from the iPhone/ipad internal speakers.
I truly hope this is only a bug and not a feature Apple has voluntarely decided to remove, which would be a shame because it doesn't harm anyone to keep it.
or anyone has a suggestion (app or something)

We are in business. I charged the iPod via the cigarette lighter (didn't take long). When I plugged it into the computer after charging it I got the familiar ding-dong sound and the iPod updater immediately prompted me to update the software on the iPod (which I did).
After updating, the computer no longer seemed to recognize it. I stopped all the USB devices that were running, one at a time until I finally saw Apple iPod in the list and I stopped that as well and disconnected.
To make a long story short, after rebooting my computer and reconnecting the iPod, iTunes came up as normal and it looks like I'm over this hurdle.
I have no idea why the computer wouldn't recognize the iPod when the battery was dead but suddenly recognizes it after charging it.
My wife says that the iPod had been left plugged into the computer for a long period of time but I'm not sure what that would have done.
At any rate, we're working now and hopefully someone will get some benefit from this thread.

Importing audio via USB

This may not be the right forum for this question, but I really don't know where to post it. I bought a sony turntable to convert traditional records into digital files. The problem is that it came with PC software but no Mac software. I'm wondering which apple app. may help me do the job. Any recommendation would be appreciated.

When i connect via usb it starts charging but then stops

when i connect my mini, itunes pops up, mini starts charging and itunes starts to update, but as soon as update is complete the mini stops charging even though it is nowhere near fully charged.

Turn the ipod off (hold down the play key) while it is charging and see if you get the charging battery on the screen.
